at 42nd street and that's where paul chambers is. >> reporter: claudine we just moved to oakland pd. the victim is a 29-year-old man. he and his family give back to the community frequently and they were doing just that this morning. >> out there late at night cooking food to give to people. >> reporter: he says he was there when the victim was shot. >> i was standing right there. the kids are hollering, his wife is hollering. >> reporter: they had just served food to international boulevard and then drove down to 42nd avenue. it's when they were in the 1000 block of 42nd when he heard shots fired. >> van went behind us, stopped, backed up. automatic of a sudden -- all of a sudden, three shots and then

two more shot the. >> reporter: holloway says that's when the gunman he saw driving a vehicle sped off 42nd avenue. the vehicle headed to hyde street. the victim's van went forward and crashed into the back of the struck. the victim's wife was also shot but their children said to be 3 and 7 are unharmed. >> i feel sorry for him. i hope he live. i hope she survive okay. >> reporter: now, police are not really releasing identities. the woman in the car, the wife, is listed in non-life- threatening injuries. as for her husband, he has life- threatening injuries. crimestoppers are offering $20,000 reward leading to information about this case. they have no suspects right now. and they don't have a motive. if you know anything about it, you are encouraged to give them a call. back to you. >> thank you, paul. the highway believes an

oakland teenager may have been drinking when he sped away from officers and ended up dying in a car crash this morning. this accident happened on the 880 intersection after a brief pursuit from international boulevard. officers say they spotted the 19-year-old hispanic seen driving recklessly -- teen driving recklessly. when they tried to pull him over, he took off. >> the driver enters north 0 and attempt thes to -- 880 and attempts to exit and he tried to negotiate the lane and collided behind me. >> authorities say that he found one open container in the car and said the driver smelled like alcohol. they've not released his name. the 29th avenue exit was closed down for the investigation. it's now back open. >> police have investigate -- police are investigating a violent attack on a 13-year-old boy who was out walking with his friend and dog. it happened at erikson park.

neighbors say that area is usually considered safe. the boy told his father, he made eye contact with the driver of a green car and the next thing he knew two people approached him and asked if he -- if he was in a gang. he said no. he was shot. police have three people in custody. a 19-year-old and two juveniles. the victim is recovering. a murder suspect on ten's most-wanted list will be soon back here from oregon. he was arrested in coos bay, oregon. the task force had received a tip that he was hiding out with friends there. he's wanted for two murders in vallejo. he's also accused of -- suspected of shooting two people in the bay area at a party. one of them did die. he will be extradited back here to face homicide charges. 19-year-old kenneth harding

died on july 15. san francisco -- 15th. at the time, kenning in harding -- harding was wanted on murder charges. his brother is suspected in a murder and has been arrested. most cancellations today were at newark in new jersey. continental said the pilots are ill. they would not elaborate. only a few hot spots remain today from a massive fire at a plant. yesterday, that fire sent a thick, black plume of smoke hundreds of feet in the area. as jade hernandez reports, now reports are focused on possible environment damage. >> reporter: by daylight, the macro plastic plants was fully

operational cleaning up. a shelter-in-place was lifted last night but results of other tests were not in. they are already evaluating danger levels. >> the department of public health say they think the air effects of that are similar to a wildland fire. i know some froms were -- residents were concerned about that. it would be similar to a grass fire in the area. >> reporter: the city's fire marshal called in for aid to put out the six-alarm fire by 11:00 last night, helping with air quality. foam used helped to contain the spread. you can see the stacks of undamaged bins right next to a pile of melted ones. five acres burned with an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 bins loss. they have a hydrogen petroleum base which burns like a tire. >> if you have never seen an

days. but this morning, nobody could be sure if they would even see the one-year anniversary. well, later this morning, they got an answer. there are 44 cats in the valley humane society animal shelter and one dog. >> i didn't want to surrender him to somewhere where he would be put down. >> reporter: the shelter doesn't put animals to sleep but if it doesn't get the money it needs in the next 30 days, it will close. donations are down 30% this year and 20% last year. at the same time, the number of animals needing shelter are up. >> we're hoping the community will step up to the plate and help us with about $125,000. >> reporter: she says another problem, the illusion of wealth this building has on the donating public. donations started to drop, the second the first shuttle went -- shovel went in the ground.
