we do not yet have a description of the suspect. 25 laid off oakland police officer are back on the force tonight a as the department investigates a string of homicide in the last few days. ktvu's john sasaki is live. >> reporter: this has been a rough year for the police department. 25 officers are back and more than ready to hit the streets. >> you weren't there, 20% of the work staff were dealing with it today. >> reporter: he greeted his returning officers and with 65 homicides this year, the department needs help. >> when the officers come back we are not go -- going to take the positions and build a task force to dress the shootings. that's huge for us. >> reporter: one killing happened this morning. >> i heard the gun shots.

live in oakland, john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. a woman has died while climbing half dome with her sister. rob roth spoke with the woman's aunt. >> reporter: yosemite national park officials say they are not contemplating making safety changes at half dome even in the wake of the fatal fall. >> reporter: even experienced climers say climing up and down half dome can be risky even when using the cables in place. but it's a risk that sup to the hiker to take. >> we can't station a ranger at every spot and the visitor has to make that decision. >> reporter: it was noon yesterday that hailey laflamme slipped while coming down half dome and fell 600 feet to her death. she shows to climb half dome

hikers about whether conditions at half dome. reporting live, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. mean time searchers have still not found the bodies of three visitors swept over the falls 13 days ago. they waded into the water above the fall, slipped and fell 300 feet to their death. the families say the guard rails are not enough to keep people safe. bay area man was on board a plane that crashed. it happened friday night north of flagstaff. deputies say they have found driver's licenses and pilot licenses for them. authorities have not yet made positive identifications. prosecutors in the bryan stow case said one of the

investors. he fled to costa rica and was arrested there. it appears plants nabbers are stocking san francisco. folks say someone is steeling their flowers and plants. in some cases planters are taken. police say they are on the look out for anyone in the area walking around with a plant. investigators would like to talk to this man. some resident bought cameras in the homes of stopping the crimes. the death of a bay area soldier serving in afghanistan. he died yesterday after enemy forces attacked his vehicle. his body is expected to arrive tonight in delaware. we are learning more about this home town of the soldier from those who knew him and we will have more on the 10:00 news.
