ptioning by captionmax www.captionmax.com . it started as a brazen robbery. tonight a statewide search is underway for a missing teen. good evening. i'm ken wayne. >> an amber alert is in effect after a teen boy was taken at gun point from a barber shop. amber lee is live with surveillance video of the victim. >> reporter: less than an hour ago police gave us this new photograph of the kidnapped teen saying they have very few leads. this whole incident started a robbery of a barber shop.

the owner said around 3:00 a man came in with a sawed off gun and robbed him. he asked us no, sir to show his face because of safety concerns. >> told me to get on the ground, i complied. at that point as i gave him everything i had, he ordered to kill me if i made any wrong moves. >> reporter: 16-year-old hasaan ford hired to help around the house returned from running an errand. this is video from the market. he is seen wearing a red cap and jacket just minutes before he returned to the shop. >> he told him to get in the car, started the car up and drove and said if i made any move he would kill him. >> reporter: he said the teen complied that's the last time he saw him. police issued an amber alert. the kidnapper and hassan were

last seen in the black gmc yukon the license plate 4way944 with a 49ers license plate frame. there is a harley sticker on the back win do. family friends of the teen said they are shocked devastated and trying to reach his mother who is out of town. they have a message for the kidnappedder. >> let him go. don't harm him, send him back home railroad he needs to be. >> reporter: the kidnapper is a black male, 180 pounds, 25, wearing a blue shirt, big pants and a knit cap. he is armed and dangerous and police are asking anyone with information to call them. >> here is another look at 16- year-old. he was last seen wearing a cincinnati reds baseball cap and a red jacket. on the right is a suv similar to the one police are looking

for. it's a two door gm c yukon. you are asked to call the police if you see eight the vehicle or the teen. with in the last half hour firefighters said they have contained the 7 alarm grass fire burning near fairfield. crews were called out near central place just east of the interstate 80, 680 interchange around 4:00. firefighters say they called seven alarms because it was hard to reach. a cal fire helicopter arrived on the scene dumped water on the fire. it pushed the fire away from homes. in all just over a hundred acres burned. no word on how to started. authorities have identified a man who died in a plane crash near the grand canyon as a way area pilot. the plane was found start near the north rim.

the county sheriff said it's investigators believe jacob daniel foster was one of the men who died. the other was andrew jay weiner. it's not known who was flying the plane. pilot licenses were found on both men. >> a grand father and his young granddaughter are lucky to we alive after nearly drowning in their swimming pool. it's the second such incident in san jose in less than a week. this time it happened at the park highley apartments near stevens creek boulevard. new, lloyd is live now at the apartment complex where the hero in this case is just eight. >> reporter: this is where it happened, in san jose. the residential pool is closed tonight after a 3-year-old and her grandfather came close to drowning. >> they were floating, they were floating. >> reporter: it was his sister and grandfather who for some

my dad and kind of one of the best things ever. >> reporter: a fire department spokeswoman said if the boy hadn't done anything the outlook could have been worse. last week a similar near tragedy happened to a man and his 6-year-old daughter at another pool, a family friend helped them. when something like this happens time is of the essence. we are just learning the grandfather is in intensive care. live in san jose, ktvu channel 2news. >> one of the key witnesses in the attack of brian stow has died. authorities say he was with matthew lee when he was attacked on march 31stful the times reports lee died yesterday from annal allergic food reaction. the suspects in the beating, appeared in court today.

college before deciding to join the army seven years ago. the 28-year-old army sergeant was killed sunday in afghanistan. according to the defense department he was attacked with ied's. his family received the news yesterday morning. >> there is not -- 30 minutes that passed by that we don't start crying. i have to -- i don't want to start again. >> reporter: a family friend spoke on behalf of his brother and preferred to talk off camera about how william worked with under served kids after graduating. >> he was really nice, sweet and he will be missed. >> reporter: this is a photograph taken of him in iraq where he served one tour in 2008 before he was sent to afghanistan where he was in the middle of his second tour. he was decorated and this past

achill es tendon. she has two prior convictions meaning this could make her a three striker. the vernal heights neighborhood is the target of a plant thief. eight people have reported plants being ripped from their yards. one woman said up to $400 worth of her plants were uprooted. police are looking for this man. a resident got this photograph of him and put it on a blog. >> it's a jazz club that operates out of a garage. now officials in berkeley have closed the doors. we spoke with the man behind the music and takes us inside bird land. >> reporter: from sacramento street it looks like an empty driveway. on friday night bird land has been the hot place for cool jazz, drawing up to 200 fans at a time.

. two innocent victims were the victims of a shooting. >> reporter: two more homicides in richmond. friends say the 25 and 24-year- old were coming home from a club this morning. when they pulled up to the parking lot gate outside their apartment someone opened fire. one got out of the car and was shot trying to run. he was shot in the head and crashed into a wall. he later died at the hospital. >> she was a lovely person, always going to church and happy. always take care of her kids. just hurtful. >> reporter: natalie said her sister was the mother of four.

latest lead to the airplane hijacker db cooper. the man parachuted out of a being 727 in 1971 with $200,000 in ransom and was never seen again. officials said today the suspect is now dead. the fbi is investigating whether he was indeed db cooper. no details have come out about what that evidence may be. >> tragedy at yosemite. what park rangers say contributed to a bay area hiker's 600 footfall. >> and in a special report, it's illegal but our cameras found it's common. the practice on northern california rivers that some call genocide.

. a bay area family is mourning the death a young woman who died in a fall from yosemite's half dome. health every holmes tells you how weather played a part. >> reporter: haley is the second person from here to die in half dome in the last two years and in both cases the massive granite landmark was wet and slick. it's a 17-mile round trip hike and climb. family members say the 26-year- old did it last year and was hiking the cable system again yesterday with her sister and two friends when tragedy struck. she was in the process of down when she fell 600 fought. >> reporter: the surface was soaked by rain make figure very slippery. >> there are several science along the trail leading up to half dome as well as at the

. the cdc is tracking a salmonella outbreak linked to ground turkey. 76 people in 26 states have

become sick from the same strain of salmonella since march. the strain is resisting many common medications. six people in california have gotten ill. the cdc said the united states u.s.d.a. is working to identity the product. more detail on how to protect yourself and your family from the poisoning. the cdc did offer this advice. wash your hands and kitchen surface was soap and water after they have been in contact with raw meat. cook poltry to 165-degrees and uncooked meat should be kept separate from other foods. >> a popular restaurant chain has a new skinny menu. today the cheesecake factory announced it's new menu feature 50 items. to drive home the point the food will be on a separate menu

>> reporter: for years miners have used suction hoses to dredge the bottom of rivers stirring up saidment and even old mercury in search of the metal. it prompted a ban on river dredging in california, a ban that could be lifted at any time. everybody agrees many are ignoring the man and using the dredgers illegally deep in the mountains. >> they have been reported. >> yeah. sure. >> reporter: what happened? >> nothing. >> reporter: for now most of them have moved their operations to the riverbanks. dropping hoses into the water to run their sluices and digging up small craters in search of gold. >> from what i have seen, what they are doing along the stream banks is no different than the mining that happened in the 1850s. it's just an a smaller scale. >> reporter: critics say it destroys spawning grounds. >> there is another hole there, there is another hole. >> reporter: and leaves

freshwater mussels to development. >> they found themselves in a place that was basically a stranding area that was created by these holes. >> reporter: mining is called high banking. >> we are spending millions of dollars up slope to protect our streams and right in the stream there is people washing the banks away into the stream. >> reporter: the miners say dredging or high banking doesn't hurt the environmentful. >> the impact is very, very minimal and almost negative as far as dredging. its been shown it's beneficial to the habitat, especially the fish for the spawning beds and the future of the fishing industry. >> reporter: some want river dredging permanently banned high banking to be better regulated. miners say they are worried california may permanently ban rink dredging control high banking. >> if it happens in california it'll spread across the nation

and we are seeing that now and a lot of miners up in oregon are blaming the california miners for what's happening up there. >> they basically wrap themselves around the american flag and say this is my right to do this. >> it's no less threatening today than in the 1850s. >> reporter: the governor signed bill 12 into law extending the ban on river dredging for five more years. that is unless an environmental impact report being written determines it causes no harm. >> ford is recalling more than a million pickup trucks because its gas tanks can fall off and cause a fire. the safety administration says straps that hold up the tanks can rust and fall apart. ford reported at least eight incidents in which the tanks fell off resulting in at least three injuries. the recall covers certain
