mormon. charges were never filed. palo alto police are investigating a string of burglaries at public schools. the latest one happened last week at jordan middle school. the thieves stole five sr. macbookings. there is no information on any suspects. house fire in santa clara is under investigation. firefighters were leading a national night out event when they saw smoke around 7:00 last night. when crews got there, there were flames and heavy smoke coming out of the house. at one point the fire jumped on the neighbor's fence causing concern it could spread to other homes. crews managed to put out the fire before it moved beyond the fence. >> i just got back from the gym and it was starting to get really smoky. i stepped outside. in 20 seconds the smoke blocked out the sun. >> there was a dog inside the house at the time. firefighters were able to rescue it and nobody was hurt.

people around the bay area got a chance to know their neighbors during this years national night out. oakland had a record setting night holding 550 block parties. that is the most ever in the city on a national night out. the idea behind the event is to wipe out violence by building stronger community ties. neighbors say they think it helps makes streets safer. >> it's great to have the neighbors coming out. knowing your neighbor is a great way to have safety. since i have three children i know it's safe for them on the streets. >> in san jose there was a big turnout for the national night out at the story and king road neighborhood. that is the heaviest crime areas. folks in east pahl lee al toe -- palo alto had block parties. a propane explosion sent one man to the hospital. you could see it coming from a mobile food struck.

a food struck worker suffered second and third degree burns on their arms. no one was hurt. a person from san francisco is among the people sickened by nation-wide salmonella outbreak. six cases have been recorded in california. that includes a death in sacramento county which is one of two fatalities nation-wide. the california department of health says the strain of sal manila has the potential for more trouble. >> there is more strains. this one is dangerous because it's resistant to antibiotics. >> nation-wide 77 people have been sickened in 26 states but no meat has been recalled. the centers for disease control is not revealing where the tainted meat was purchased and only said three retail locations are involved. this year on pace to be the deadliest ever at yosemite national park. holly of san ramon was the

14th person to die in the park this year. a park ranger says there is between 12-15 deaths by the enof an average year. people who die by heart attacks, car accidents, and natural causes. the increasing number of visitors may be the reason for the high number. the golden gate bridge has new numbers in place to cut back on congestion. the bridge district painted the new lanes to separate bicyclists and tourists. normally it's reserved for bicyclists but it's currently under going seismic retro fitting. they will have to share the eastern walkway until the western side reopens sometime next month. time now to visit sal to get a quick early look at traffic this morning. sal. >> hello and good morning to you. let's look at what we have with the morning commute. highway 4 looks pretty good as you come up to the grade there. no major problems and you can

see the traffic on 680 or i will tell you because you can't see it from here. traffic will be looking pretty good. also this morning we are looking at the san mateo bridge. that traffic is looking nice heading out to the high-rise. if you are driving in or driving from pleasanton on the sunol grade southbound 680 traffic off to a nice start heading down the hill. there are no major problems on westbound 580. i was just looking at one of my maps here and the traffic in san jose is still looking pretty good here. as you look at the south bay 17, 101, 280 and 85 are off to a nice start. let's go to steve. >> i would hope so, sal. >> i would hope so too. tropical clouds kind of winding down. they continue to push off toward the east. we don't have to worry about too much.

for us the fog is there. it's back. temperatures 50s and also 60s. a little bit warmer on some of the lows. yesterday we had cooler readings until the knot bay. the fog burned off sooner and the temperatures warmed up. most locations say calm but travis still west, southwest at 23. we still get a delta breeze. that is not bad. i think today is a push from what we had yesterday very close to what we had today temperature wise. that is big thunderstorm complexes there but that is well to the east of us. it looks like a cool down tomorrow as the low digs in. that will probably be tomorrow. nice at the coast. warm inland. more of the same but it will be cooler away from the coast tomorrow. i think there is little change today. night and morning fog low clouds. san jose at this time was overcast. they are partly cloudy. it will be nice to mild to warm to hot. depending on your proximity to

the coast. a little cooler on thursday. looks like no big changes friday. this morning tropical storm emily is heading for the island shared by haiti and the dominican republic. rain and wind from the outer bands of the storm -- emily could dump as much as 10 inches of rain. emergency workers say they could get the worst of the storm by tonight. some people are being moved out of high risk zone. right now in cairo, egypt dramatic moments at the trial of mubarak. the 83-year-old is accused of ordering the killing of prolates tours during the uprising that -- protestors during the uprising that forced him from prison earlier this year. he is in a caged off area.

they say he was involved in a robbery at the barbershop where he also worked. it was reported on monday that he was abducted leading to a state-wide amber alert. it turns out he was home safe. the alleged gunman that was also arrested and saw a sawed off shotgun and stolen property at his home. his identity has not been released. we will stay on top of this and bring you the latest. coming up you will hear from the barbershop owner from his discussion with ford. california lawmakers will investigate the failures in the criminal justice system that lead to the long imprisonment of jaycee dugard. today's hearing follows the release of more disturbing video tapes. nancy garrido said she video taped -- asking the five-year-

update their plans to build a new stadium. the team will unvail new artist sketches of the proposed billion dollar stadium. this could be the bay areas only pro football stadium. the raiders and 49ers are in talks to share this facility. sal is back with another look at traffic. sal. >> good morning. traffic looks pretty good if you are driving around the bay area. this is a look at interstate 80 westbound and it's nice drive. i can see why people get up early and get on the roads realtively early because it's crowded out there but it's light. that's one of the things you can see. i guess it doesn't make sense. it's crowded but the traffic is still moving well. i shouldn't say it's light because this hour of the morning already people are on the road. let's move along and take a look at 237. i can see the 237 traffic is

light westbound crossing 880. this commute usually gets started a little bit later on and there are no major problems heading south on interstate 880 getting out to the south bay. let's take a lock at the maps now. we do have a little bit of slow traffic on highway 17. parts of the santa cruz mountains northbound 17, 85. southbound 280 coming from cupertino we have a couple road sensors spotting up up there. northbound 101 the traffic in san jose looks pretty good. it's 4:54. steve, i have to ask you a question, do you know what time the giants play today? >> we have to look it up. >> noon? is it noon? is it a day or night game? >> i think it's day. >> it's day. we found out from our control room. >> thank you. low clouds and fog will give way to sunshine and then

temperatures very close to yesterday's numbers. i think we warmed up we talked about we get a warmup tuesday and wednesday and there could be a slow down. 50s and low 60s. remember that is at moffett. west, southwest at fairfield. still 23 there. our observer kent said fog burned off sooner. temperatures did come up a little bit. there is nothing extreme. high pressure will build in to get a little warmer. i think we have seen this pattern for the longest coast. more of the same on thursday. a little cooler inland and we'll keep it there probably into the weekend. and next week might be warmer. a little change night and morning fog. low clouds. 60s, 70s, and 80s.

but the trend here is to bring in cooler air and a little bit more fog and drizzle as we head in tomorrow and probably friday. slight warmup on sunday. even though the u.s. space shuttle program is over, work on the international space season still continues. two astronauts are scheduled to take a six-hour space walk later this morning. the two will move a cargo boom and install a laser communication system and deploy an amateur radio satellite. once the tasks are completed the two space walkers will snap a few photos. receive -- receding lake waters showed a bit of sad information. this is from the space shuttle columbia. it's one of the 18 tanks that brought information.
