silver terrace neighborhood. neighbors came out to help neighbors after a fire burned on augusta street. firefighters say the fire was burning in the garage, where the son of the homeowner was storing numerous articles to be recycledk and rehabbed. many articles were ruined, and the garage was damaged. one neighbor went over to the homeowner and handed her $40 to help her out. investigators are trying to learn what led to an unusual boat accident on san francisco bay. one boat overturned after hitting another vessel off oyster point. the family of the man who died are also wondering what went wrong. >> reporter: i also spoke with the investigator in charge of this investigation, just two hours ago. he says right now, it appears to be a tragic accident. at noon today, a 46-foot pleasure craft collided with a 19-foot boston whaler. tossing two into the bay.

the boats could not avoid each other, are still unknown. police do not believe there was any criminal intent or the behavior. >> reporter: the father has not yet given police his account of what happened. that will probably take place tomorrow, after he's had a chance to grieve. in richmond, a homicide detective is calling today's killing ever an 18-year-old man a brazen act of violence. the victim was standing on the street when someone shot him. it's not clear if it was a drive-by shooting, or occurred on the street. today's killing marks the third homicide in richmond this week alone. police say if you have any information in this case, please contact them right away. a suspected car thief is in the hospital after police he was running from, ended up rescuing him. oakland police were trying to

pull over the driver around noon today who he took off. police say that's when the man ran a red light, hit another vehicle, then a utility pole and the car burst into flames. a hearing in sacramento today addressed what went wrong in the jaycee dugard case. they discussed possible changes to the system. several argued the parole board gave more consideration to garrido's psychologist reports, than his rape conviction. one state senator said he wants to change the criteria. >> they can look at the crimes that that inmate has committed, and can balance that with the behavior of the inmate. a tape of nancy garrido harassing a parol agent has lead to training. in a jail house interview,

authorities say garrido admitted to at least three other kidnapping, but he did not admit to micayla garret. urging congressional leaders to settle their disagreement. the president called the failure to extend the agency's operating authority, a lose, lose situation. as a result, airport construction projects have been halted, and 4,000faa employees are furloughed. senate democrats say they can't support a house republican plan that makes it difficult for airline workers to unionize. we're getting a better picture tonight of what the new 49ers stadium in santa clara will look like. maureen nailer tells us why it's being made to accommodate not one, but two teams.

recall 36 million pounds of ground turkey. that's the order from the federal government tonight, after a salmonella scare that's killed one person, and sickened several others. >> reporter: ken, we spent tonight calling bay area supermarkets and couldn't find a single one that was selling recalled ground turkey. this is good turkey. now, more than 70 people in 26 states have become seriously ill, and one person died in sacramento after eating ground

turkey that's traced back to a cargo meat plant in springville, arkansas. 36millionpounds are being recalled. >> it's really scary. you trust where your food is coming from. to hear that, what do i eat? >> reporter: consumer advisories at the poultry and meat counters of all of its stores. none of lucky's products is being recalled. lab tests indicate the victims, one in san francisco, six in california, all suffered from salmonella food poisoning. this strain of salmonella is resistent to commonly prescribed, antibiotics. doctors tell us symptoms appear within 8 to 72 hours of eating a contaminated product. >> usually, it's severe abdominal cramping and diarrhea. it can be quite severe in the young and old, and those with

immune problems. >> reporter: the center for disease control says more than 50 million americans get sick every year from food poisoning. 3,000 die. >> makes you think about what you're buying. i guess, yeah, you are supposed to trust the stores and things like that happen. >> reporter: here's a tip. even contaminated ground turkey can be made safe by cooking it thoroughly at 165 degrees. use an internal thermometer for that to make sure you get the right temperature. also, make sure you wash your hands before handling the meat. >> it's ground turkey sold under several brands. all of the packages were produced in one plant and are marketed with the establish code p963. that's the important part. you can either throw the meat away, or return it to the

2-year-old gion car was shot in his home. prosecutors say the toddler, and his 4-year-old brother were handling a hand gun that their father took from a safe. a florida judge ruled that casey anthony does not have to start her probation for check fraud tomorrow as originally scheduled. she was released from jail last month. anthony's attorneys argued, she served her probation while in jail. the judge scheduled a hearing for friday to resolve the matter. it was a day of up and downs on wall street. by the closing day, stocks finished higher. the dow gained 30 points to close at 11,896. the nasdaq picked up 24,. the deal over the debt ceiling reached after laborious and contentious issues does not seem to warm the hearts and

his party. the progressive caucus of the democratic party is calling for a primary challenge to president obama. they criticize the offer to cut social security, medicare, and medicaid, and object to what they call, unauthorrized wars. the progressives hope to start debates about these issues and others. it's justice democratic announced it has disbanded an international child pornography ring. charges being field against 72 members of the dream board online community. members tried to hide their tracks by using screen names and proxy servers. prosecutors said, members had to submit explicit images. >> members who shared videos of themselves molesting children received elevated status. >> five of the suspects are from southern california, none from the bay area. governor brown signed a

bill making it illegal to disrupt students as they enter, or leave school. a democratic lawmaker from southern california authored the bill in response to an incident where anti- abortion protesters displayed graphic images outside of a middle school in 2003. some of the students were so upset, they started to cry. those found guilty of violating the law could face up to six months in jail or a $500 fine. the governor vetoed a bill that would have allowed regional governments to require subsidized commutes for workers. governor brown said while he supports the goal of reducing greenhouse gases he could not impose what amounts to a new financial burden on businesses. a bizarre story out of the north bay. a wild pig turned on a group of hunters and sent one man to the

hospital. the rescuers raced against the clock to find the victim. >> got a report of a possible gunshot wound to a pick hunter. >> reporter: it turns out that initial report was off. a group of five or six men were hunting wild picks this morning in the rough terrain. the hunters shot a wild pig, but the pig wouldn't go down. >> the pick was wounded, and the pig attacked one of the hunters. >> reporter: that hunter was ernie sanders. >> we were able to locate the patient and he was transported to santa rosa memorial with numerous pig bites. >> reporter: his wife was by his side and didn't want to

talk about the attack. sheriffs deputies were on hand for the initial struck and here at the hospital as well. they say there's no criminal investigation into today's attack, and the wild pig won't be attacking anyone else. at last report, sanders was in critical condition. late this afternoon, we learned he is an experienced hunter. local state, federal, and antidrug agencies say they've confiscated more than half a million medical marijuana plants in the past two weeks in northern california. part of an effort called operation full court press. officers also say they made 120 arrests. last year, california law enforcement found and destroyed more than 4.3 million pot plants. family and supporters of a young man who was arrested at

an oakland man has been ordered to stand trial for a fatal hit and run. he faces numerous charges, including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. he's accused of hitting and killing a german tourist. mcafee says it has uncovered unprecedented cyber attacks on the u.s. government, american companies, and other countries. mcafee says it's been going on for five years and they believe a single nation is behind the attacks. others say the evidence points to china. janet napolitano says the report is being evaluated. a summer camp employee is facing allegations she had sex with a 14-year-old boy. over the summer, she worked at
