lower 80s, here is sal. we have an accident on highway 101 which closed lanes for hours. one car burst into flames overnight and people were injured so again 101 the peninsular near third avenue and this has been cleared since. all lanes of 101 have been opened in san mateo. let's look at the westbound bridge and now let's go back to the desk. in overnight news they are still at the scene of a house fire. it happened on rifle lane at about 3:00 this morning. the fire started in the garage which has been converted into living quarters. the flames shot 30 feet into the air burned a couple of trees and the homeowner in the

main house saw a bright original close. >> emergency mode, 911 get the kids out of the house and then my brother lives in that garage. >> well the homeowners brother left earlier and just came back a short time ago unharmed. the flames caused some minor damage to the main house and it took firefighters 30 minutes to put out the fire. overnight they responded to a hostage situation but no hostages were ever found. the caller said an unknown person contacted him and said his relatives were being held hostage in their home. police were unable to reach the family for hours and they brought in a s.w.a.t. team and crisis negotiators. police contacted the family but

from campus, school starts in three weeks and this is where some of the upper class men will be staying. parents are upset because they feel there should be enough space. they ran out of space when 4,000 freshman enrolled in the fall. that is more than 1,000 freshman to deal with and they have lobbied for a commitment from students without being able to tell those students without where they will be staying. studies show they do better and that's because they are in a mind. we have already contacted the general manager who will be in around 7:30 this morning and we will talk to the students on campus to talk to them about

device which was attached to her neck by a chain. it turns out it was a fake bomb and they are treating this case as an extortion attempt. palo alto will talk about the recent surge in deadly violence in that city. there have been six killings last year compared to all four last year. tonight's town hall meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. at city hall. a new report found 9 schools in the peninsular city will likely suffer major damage in a big earthquake. they recently fitted a complete retrofit and it is unlikely work will be done any time soon due to the state's budget crisis. sal is working watching our

commute, you are busy this morning. >> yes, we just want to watch the roads and make sure your commute is doing as well as it can be. looking at a live picture drive willing out to the macarthur maze and it also looks good, southbound 101 traffic, it is not as terrible except on the bay bridge where we have some gusty winds. it still looks very nice. driving over to 101. big fog bank, temperatures will cool down, that is a lot of gray and white the. we have a big area of low pressure moving into the pacific northwest. that is taking that fog bank and giving us lower 50s.

when fairfield is gusting to 30s and vacaville southwest at 10, it is a rip roaring sea breeze all the way to the delta. you can see the spin in the atmosphere, we are going through southern oregon and california and that's the reason why. even when the fog burns off, temperatures are well below average for many. i said gusts of 30 and they are done. 50s and 60s by the coast it could be a tough day for beachgoers. slightly warmer as we get towards the weekend, earlier next week does look warmer but today and tomorrow rather cool and breezy. throughout the day major retailers will release july sales which is a good indication of schools revenue.

. good morning, right now traffic is look being pretty good on 80 westbound, so far it looks like a nice drive all the way out to this area. . now police put down spike strips, look at the times, it ripped up the tires but it didn't stop this driver, he kept going for about an hour and 15 minutes like that. the police finally cornered him. when they asked him why he didn't stop, he just said, well i was having a bad day. meat manufacturer cargo is recalling turkey linked in that salmonella outbreak. they have posts about the salmonella recall. more than 70 people have become sick across the country

old boy. she met boy at summer calm and police were note -- summer camp and they found a suspicious text message on the boy's phone. they are looking into inappropriate behavior and they are asking anybody who knows about any to call detectives. the jc due guard case, they want to know how the convicted kidnapper was able to hold the girl captive for 18 years right under the nose of parole officers. they are demanding better training and better communication between lou enforcement -- law enforcement areas. phillip has admitted to three other kidnappings and we don't

earlier he was the head of an investigation for steroid use. cell phone use all over the city, they have described the antennas and loud and unsightly. they sit on top of utility poles already in the city and at&t said they are getting complaints about the larger towers and the review board is not expected to make a decision today. it is one of several school burglaries in palo alto, both are from east palo alto and they are suspected of breaking into the high school two weeks ago and stealing two mac books. three other schools in palo alto were burglarized and those cases are still under investigation. police have increased

clothing. we are getting a high tech look at the new proposed stadium in santa clara. they produced a new fly over animation. most of it seemed to be on one side of the stadium with luxury suites stacked on the other. fans will enter up escalators to the concourse and they can get a spectacular view of the stadium and field. they know this could be the home of both the 9ers and the raiders. >> there is no time lean on whether another -- timeline on whether another team will use the stadium and we are moving forward with a plan without having a second team. >> the 49ers and raiders are now in talks about possibly sharing the stadium in santa clara, and it is possible both teams can be playing at the beginning of the 2015 season.
