>> everybody says it has been consistent and is doing what it can to help the markets but it can be whatever mood we have it will be -- whatever move we have it will be short lived. >> reporter: they have a scheduled meeting and the day after the dow jones industrial average dropped more than 600 points nasdaq dropped more than 170 points losing a large percent of its value. it is a mixed bag, at one point germany was down 5% and is down 1.5% now. although australia's market did close-up. some appear to be rebounding a little bit this morning and again the market will not open for another 30 minutes or so

block from where this command post is parked at 56th and international. the police department calls it a tactical alert this morning and a family is reeling from the loss of their child. >> the violence takes place where you have an innocent child lost and you don't know how tough it is to look a parent in the face who just lost a toddler. >> reporter: it was barely 1:00 in the afternoon. the two men who were intended targets were wounded but a three-year-old was hit in the next and taken to the hospital where he later died. a few other children have been hurt during daytime violence but they survived. the little boy was killed and

it appears to stem from gang rivalry. from the tobacco firearms along with the fbi they will work to address the increased number of shooting. she said quote gun battles in our neighborhood will not be the norm in our neighborhood. i want to bring you back out live this morning and we have seen several patrols already in this area including from the alameda sheriff's office. as we mentioned the command post is still here at 56th and international. this is just a block from where the shooting happened yesterday afternoon. police will continue their tactical alert through the weekend. time is now 6:05, the park

is now at the -- now being sued. they displayed a photo at the park where somebody had written a gay slur on the now doctored photo. so that there has been no official response from great america. the beating of a 52-year- old man with a baseball bat is likely a hate crime. it happened saturday night near market and sanchez. police say three men in their teens hit the 52-year-old man with a baseball bat while yelling homo phobic slurs. anybody with information on this attack is asked to call san francisco police. a pg&e. employee, former manager claimed in a 2008 lawsuit

claimed they ignored warnings and plotted to have customers pick up a $2 million mistake. they settled privately but they discovered documents and turned them over to state regulators. ed lee's campaign for a four-year term is not even 24 hours old and he is already facing a backlash for changing his mind about running. >> given the fact that you changed your mind -- >> now lee's run got off to a bumpy start when he pulled the papers and one man spent several minutes heckling lee. sheriff's deputies arrested him for disturbing the peace and he said he just wants to continue

this morning, sal? let's look at 80 westbound as we head out to the mcarthur maze traffic is moving well. most people will find that bunching up occurs in richmond and he will sierra and by the time you -- el cerrito, and by the time you reach oakland driving down to heyward on the left which is southbound it looks good near 66th avenue. this morning we are looking at 880 even further down. that traffic looks good san mateo the bridge looks good and as we move to the south bay, a little bit of slowing on cupertino. sunshine and warmer inland not a big deal but the big news could be on the weekend the

remains of a typhoon, that is just a hurricane in the western pacific once they weaken and come across the pacific they can put a lot of energy downstream with low pressure and the last three months has been low pressure. now over the next couple of days we may have warming. slightly warmer today and tomorrow. if you are inland temperatures will be coming down as we head late into sunday and monday looks like a reinforcement of that area to the north and the fog should burn off. low-to-mid 50s airports are reporting quarter mile visibility and fog. the bad news is, it is tough to see through it and also it will burn off sooner. not much of a breeze, if anything there is a north winds

store later today. allison burns ktvu channel 2 news. the man used of driving drunk and hitting a nine-year- old boy who just left a giant's game has been arrested. he is charged with one count of felony hit-and-run. he hit little ryan white and he and his family were tourists from philadelphia. they just left the phillies giants game and the hospital says ryan white is making small improvements. a federal judge ordered 22 $5,000 raised in an auction from ted will go to a widow of a man who was killed by a mail bomb. another widow will receive $33,000 and the wife of a physician and researcher who

was severely injured will receive $3,300. he is serving a life sentence in colorado. they planned a -- verizon employees plan a protest at noontime in san francisco. . good morning if you are driving to the westbound bridge, you may make it as you drive to the city. now this morning the faa is investigating an emergency landing near a well-known winery near the russian river. investigators say the pilot reported some type of mechanical problem with his small plain. he managed to land safely on

river road a short time later. he has a creative idea to develop a drinking water problem. he wants to tow icebergs. they could also provide water for farmers but he needs $10 million to make his plan a reality. federal government wants tighter regulations with well- known chemicals which are rarely listed on chemicals but you can find these chemicals in just about every garage cleaning products, brake fluid, paint they all contain these chemicals. they have also been found in tap water. >> exposure to pregnant women can cause harm to their developing fetus and these

will have more in that said meeting later today. august 9th, i am dave clark. >> and i am pam cook, it is now 6:30. >> well that opening bell pam was telling you about was what investors was waiting for this morning. watching the financial district, back with us live, good morning alley. >> reporter: we had a chance to talk with investors who work out here in the financial district and they say there are two things that could have a positive impact on the market this morning. first of all down s&p 500 futures were up as of about an hour ago but they say it's not always the best indicater of how the market will do and more importantly the issue you heard pam talking about the federal reserve is meeting and there is talk and speculation they could have a policy change to boost the market but investors say

any news from the federal reserve would be welcomed news after yesterday's 634 point drop in the dow jones industrial average. it was the biggest single point drop since 2008 and nasdaq fell losing nearly 7% of its value. asian markets closed down and european were mixed and we spoke to investors who say they are expecting another rollercoaster day today. >> i certainly think the feds will be proactive in this meeting and i expect investors will be proactive, think about what you need to do for yourself. >> the federal reserve completed a $600 billion transfer of treasury bonds. >> reporter: federal officials are meeting as we speak and we should have information four hours from now as to what they will decide to do.

developments within the last half hour. in oakland life long oakland resident brought a teddy bear to mark the spot where the three-year-old little boy was shot and killed yesterday afternoon. that little boy was shot to death by gunshots police say intended by gang rival members. >> this area right here is populated with all kind of kids and it is amazing. >> most likely, that is the thing about it. it wore on to the point where you are trying to understand it. >>reporter: they are calling it a tactical alert and alameda sheriff's office is pat controlling this area -- patrolling this area. the department has not made any

old enough to face the punishments. >> the writing started after the fatal police shooting of a man but for now looters are taking advantage of the chaos. so far police have arrested 525 people. a court hearing is set this week in a cold case murder of a pleasantton school girl more than 25 years ago. police did not release the name of the suspect but we have learned the suspect is steven carlson from santa cruz. he is a registered sex offender. the body of tina was found in 1984 in a drainage ditch. she had been stabbed to death after leaving high school. they tested old evidence using new dna technology. family members had this reaction. >> he should have turned

himself in. he needs to serve some time. >> the suspect was 16 years old at the time of the killing and is being held at the jail. how the markets are rebounding after two big sell offs, take a look at the big board, dow jones industrial average up 123 points. some of it probably some short covering which is not all that positive. there is some optimism as we look for the feds meeting and they issued a statement at -- they will issue a statement at 11:15 and we will look for anything they may say about the economy. they are moving through the toll plaza? >> right now traffic is slow here at the toll plaza and it is backed up to the 880 over crossing about a 12 minute delay, no major problems on the

bridge. if you are driving on interstate 880 traffic continues to look good as you continue northbound on the right traffic is not stop and go. southbound traffic is going to be very nice all the way down to heyward and then it does begin to slow down. let's look at the upper east shore in vallejo, traffic looks good no major problems. antioch is where the slow traffic is and some slowing in pittsburgh and it looks good from concord to danville. as we move to livermore westbound 800 gets better by dublin and in heyward southbound traffic is slow approaching 92 but it gets better. let's go to sal. >> -- steve. a little chill in the morning air, temperatures in the 50s cool overnight lows are cool and we do get the good

. >> well,good morning and here is a quick look at some of the top stories, investors are watching what happened with wall street. dow jones industrial average is up about 2 points right now it was way up a little while ago and it has come back down. we will be listening for any clues from the federal reserve later today and that meeting is going on right now and will wrap up in about four and a half hours and we will keep you posted. they are continuing an all out search for the gunmen who killed a three-year-old boy. it happened on international boulevard. the two men who were the intended targets were wounded.

the toddler was standing on the sidewalk with his family and was killed. bart service is back running again. a computer glitch caused it to suspensor visit nationwide and that move was a precaution. they are urging people to lock their car doors and windows. this is a response to a growing problem there. >> well we had a lot of break- ins and this is the avenue which is sort of the main drag which goes through the west side of the city and a lot of the main streets have been targeted such as the one i am standing on now it is called baker. this is where overnight on saturday some time a jaguar was stolen. there were four vehicle break- ins over the weekend and that jaguar was one of two stolen.
