good morning to you. welcome to ktvu mornings on 2. it's saturday, august 12th. let's get right to your weekend forecast and check in with meteorologist rosemary. good morning, rosemary. >> good morning to you! quiet pattern continues, another comfortable mid-summer day for inland areas. this is becoming the norm. partly cloudy skies expected for the afternoon. less of a marine layer out there this morning. which should equal better clearing. afternoon sea breeze will be back and our highs upper 50s for the coast, widespread low to mid-80s for our inland spots. we will pinpoint your neighborhood coming up in just a few moments. the search continues this morning for a two-year-old sacramento girl who the fbi says was kidnapped by her father. ali rasmus is live with why authorities fear the two-year- old may already be out of the country. ali. >> reporter: authorities say this man has local ties, so the

bay area may be one of several places where he's headed. it's a sacramento fbi who yesterday issued this amber alert. they're concerned that 49-year- old man may be trying to take his two-year-old daughter out of the country. so police at sfo have been looking for this man. more than 600 agencies across the state of california. family members center not seen them for six days now. madeline's father was supposed to return the two-year-old to her mother last sunday. >> he wasn'ting using a cell phone or credit cards, and considering a child of two years of ailed we thought it was necessary to issue an endangered missing advisory. >> and this amber alert went up on highway signs across the bay area yesterday. they are still up this morning. here's the description of the vehicle authorities are looking for. he may be driving a 1998 green

titanium 4runner with california plate. they also mentioned he is a u.s. citizen who was born in egypt. he speaks spanish throughoutly and that's why authorities have advised law enforcement agents that travel across the state to keep an eye out for this man. ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. and stay with ktvu for continuing coverage on the search for madeline. we have posted photos as well as that license plate information on the front page of ktvu.com. new this morning, hayward police have launchnd a homicide investigation after discovery of a woman's body near a motel. police were called to motel 6 at 10:00 last night. the body was found in an alleyway behind the building. and was blocked off by an orange tarp. police say the body appears to have been burned and the case is being treated as a homicide. they're questioning people who have been staying at the motel

and others in the area. right now police have no suspects. in overnight news, oakland police are investigating two separate shootings that killed two people and injured a third. the latest shoots this is morning. when police arrived this man trying lying in the street, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. further down the street another shooting victim was found in a car, that injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital. about two hours before that, shots rang out near maddux driver and 98th avenue. oakland police say a man in his early 20s was driving this white car when she was shot several times. car crashed into the front yard of a nearby home. the man died at the scene. anyone with information on either of the shooting incidents is asked to call oakland police. one of bart's board of directors is demanding to know why the transit agency turned off its underground cell service friday night. the police say it was to cut off communication between

protestors. officers say they received information that some of the demonstrators who got out of hand last month planned something even more violent this time. an attorney for the aclu says taking away cell service to transit ride others is the exact tactic used to suppress anti-government protests in egypt. the director said she disagrees with the police department's decision. >> we're not a third-world country. we shouldn't be -- borrowing communications just takes us to somewhere that i don't want to ysebaert go. >> it wasn't a decision made lightly but this wasn't about free speech. it's about safety. >> cellular service was restored underground and some activists are calling for an fcc investigation. today is day two of the outside music festival and tens of thousands of people are expected again to swarm into san francisco. the three-day festival kicked off yesterday in golden gate

rosa. the rest of us into the 50s and temperatures within two to four degrees of where we started yesterday may have noticed high clouds overhead yesterday, and that should no longer are the case. we're watching that move to the east and our temperatures will be very similar to what we saw yesterday. the marine layer shallower so we're going to likely see a quicker burnoff. look at the forecast here. not even looking at mostly cloudy skies, most of the inland areas. santa rosa mostly clear, fairfield partly cloudy. concord, livermore, san jose all reporting partly cloudy skies. we've got just outside of the bay here, by about 9:00 or so it begins to retreat. looks like the east bay as well as the peninsula continues with the low cloud and fog. but by 10:30, 11:00, east bay mostly sunny skies, it could linger near the coastline for your saturday afternoon. the sea breeze will be back with us and our temperatures again very similar to what we saw on friday. your satellite view again the high clouds you may have noticed yesterday about here, and pushing off to the east.

down a busy san francisco intersection for a few hours last nights. a honda element slammed into a taxi full of passengers at franklin and sutter streets just before 10:30 last night. the impact pulled the cab into a light pole. it was carrying 4 passengers and a driver. they were all taken to the hospital with non-life- threatening injuries. the driver of the element was also not seriously hurt. the chp says alcohol may have played a factor in a head- on crash in soon omm'a county. a dodge pickup collided with another truck near old lakeville road last night. officers didn't clear the scene until after midnight. one person was rushed to the hospital with major injuries. and a child was a passenger in one of the trucks. the child's condition has not been released. officers are on the lookout for speeding motorcyclists riding through napa county today. police say they're planning extra patrols in areas frequented by riders and where crashes are common.

washington need to start doing their jobs. this week president obama will hit the roads starting monday. he's embarked -- setting off on a three-day campaign bus tour through the midwest. stops include minnesota, iowa, and illinois. the bus tour starts on monday in cannon falls, minnesota, with a town hall meeting. four other similar events will follow. the campaign comes from the president starts his family vacation on martha's vineyard. texas governor rick perry is not in iowa today for the straw poll. instead he is in south carolina to make his 2012 campaign for president official. he will make the announcement that he's joining the g.o.p. nomination race at the red state gathering of conservative activists in charleston. while his speech today upstages the straw poll and other candidates. >> what this does is give perry a chance to see who comes out the poll and gear his sights on those people, go after those

people. >> perry will travel up the atlantic seaboard to new hampshire, after today's announcement he will then finally make a stop in iowa. former alaska governor sarah palin is not participating in the straw poll this weekend. but she is in iowa and she says it is not too late for her to join the race for president. >> i think the more the merrier. the more the better the debates, and out there in the arena, better for voters to have more choices. >> that was palin yesterday at the iowa state fair. reporters surrounded her asking her questions about her possible campaign and other candidates. she has said before that she will decide whether she will enter the race sometime before october. as the g.o.p. nomination race starts to unfold, the white house is now criticizing the candidates. all 8 g.o.p. candidates took part in a debated thursday night in iowa and that's where they vowed not to support any future budget deal with tax increases.

even if the deal includes spending cuts 10 times larger than the tax increases. a white house spokesman says the pledge puts republicans on the side of millionaires and billionaires. a surprise in the race for san francisco mayor. the city's public defender jeff adachi has announced he is in. he filed election papers 30 minutes before the deadline yesterday evening. he says he will run on fiscal responsible. he has a measure on the november ballot that if approved, would reform the city's pension system. >> it wasn't until i really lessened to what the candidates were saying and the last few debates about pension reform, and i became convinced that either the candidates don't get it or they don't want to get it. >> he says he will not accept public campaign financing. more than a dozen people are in the race to be the next mayor of san francisco. in our economy watch this morning, the securities and

exchanges commission says it's investigating the recent downgrade of u.s. credit by standard & poors. the sec says it wants to know the mass used by the firm when it used the decision to downgrade the credit rating. the treasury department maintained all week the downgrade is wrong because of a $2 trillion accounting error. the sec is also looking into who knew about the downgrade before standard & poors made its announcement. the new school year is just around the corner, and for some families that means back-to- school shopping. 15% of most retailers annual income is running up during back-to-school sales. independent research firms say 82% of parent say they'll spend the same or less on back-to- school supplies compared to last year. only 12% said they'll be spending more. a canadian company is recalling 380,000 pounds of bacon over concerns about listeria contamination. the canadian bacon is sold under the names napoleon, stefano, bellissimo.

sacramento fbi. they're the ones who issued this amber alert. they're concerned that madeline samaan-fay and her father 49- year-old mourad samaan have been missing four days now. he was supposed to return the two-year-old to his mother on sunday and the mother waited two days to tell police her didn't didn't return because she didn't think the child was in danger. but now authorities are concerned he may be taking the chile out of the country. he's a u.s. citizen born in egypt and speaks spanish throughoutly. amber alert went up on highway signs across the bay area yesterday. they're still up this morning. the two-year-old and her parents live in sacramento, and authorities say the toddler's father has bay area ties and they think this may be one of several places he might be headed. >> all officers on looking on the freeways, city pd's notified, sheriff's notified also, that includes the airports also looking for this vehicle and the suspect and the

child. >> here's a description of the vehicle he may be driving. anyone who recognizes the vehicle is asked to give california highway patrol a call. ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. the hunt is on for a fourth suspect in a home-invasion robbery in san rafael. police say they already have three men in custody. the robbery happened at a house on sea way near point san pedro row yesterday evening. one of men had a gun and forced his bay into the home. police chased down three suspects. officers closed down several neighborhood streets and evacuated a nearby salvation army store. the man at large is described as an african-american between 20 to 25 years old, with very short hair. a homeless man is recovering this morning after he was shot by an oakland police officer. happened around 7:40 last night at fruitvale avenue and

foothill boulevard. witnesses say the officer approached the homeless man who was urinating against the water and then turned around. that's when the officer fired. witnesses say the man was carrying what appeared to be a stick or twig. family members are coming to the defense of the man accused of killing a three-year- old boy in a drive-by shooting in oakland this week. right now lawrence denard is held in a segregated cell at county jail in oakland. yesterday he were in the courtroom where he was scheduled to enter a plea. instead the judge postponed the hearing until late august. we spoke to his family who had some harsh words for oakland police. >> not that type of person, trying to make him an animal that he's not and we don't appreciate that as we know him as a good person. >> police say he was driven to international boulevard on monday afternoon and may claim he opened fire. a stray bullet struck and killed carlos nova as he sat on his toy car. two other people were injured.

one of them named denard as the shooter. his family says he is being set up. the death of a pregnant woman by the family dog at pacifica is renewing the debate for tougher regulations of pit bulls. yesterday residents of pacifica dropped off flowers and candles outside the napora family home. the couple's two-year-old male pit bull killed 32-year-old darla napora inside the house thursday afternoon. pacifica does not have a law requiring owners of pit bulls to spay or neuter their dogs. the city of san francisco does. and the spca says the law has made an impact. >> we're not sure that legislation like that is the right answer. but it has undoubtedly been effective. we did see the number of pit bulls being surrendered to our shelters drop dramatically. >> the president of the spca says any burrowed of dog can be aggressive and enacting a breed specific sterilization law in pacificca could further the bad rap of pit bulls.

a dollars 100,000 reward is offered to catch the rob who stole cash from a bay area armored car company. the robbery happened before 11 thursday night at the garda truck warehouse in santa rosa. police say a group of armed men locked two employees behind steel doors inside the building and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. the employees were not hurt. investigators are now looking at surveillance video for any leads. the fbi has also joined the investigation. an 18-year-old man is facing misdemeanor charges after being removed from a jetblue flight. robert votes was taken off the plane wednesday morning after police say the intoxicated teenager urinated on a 12-year- old girl. now a lawyer for the girl's family says he urinated on the floor and not the girl. he could still face charges of indecent exposure. a paraglider is safe after a cliffside rescue in southern california. it happened yesterday in la jolla. police say the glider crashed

200 feet down the cliff. a helicopter pulled him up to safety. the man managed to stay conscious throughout the entire ordeal. time is 7:34. all lanes of the ignacio valley road in walnut creek are open after being closed several hours yesterday. a problem began early yesterday morning when a truck crashed into a power pole knocking out electricity to 3800 customers. pg&e crews 4 hoped to to have the pole fix ode by early afternoon but work continued well into the evening commute. the lanes were opened after 10:00 last night. power has been restored through all affected customers. the cause of a fire that solano county remains under investigation. it started just after 5:30 yesterday evening on second street in the downtown area of isleton. officials say the fire started in a boarded up building and quickly spread to another abandoned building next door. firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 9 p.m. no injuries were reported. friends and family are trying to bring attention to

the unsolved mystery surrounding the death of a hayward teenager 12 years ago. a small group held a prayer service last night near the railroad tracks where the body of 13-year-old james was found on august 12, 1999. his body was wrapped in a blanket and left there. authorities have never been able to determine what caused his death. the family held a prayer vigil at the site every year. in santa cruzdown county, deputies have dismanled a major pop operation, seizing more than 5,000 plants from an acre of land outside watts sonville. the marijuana is estimated to have a street value of $5 million. the area near the 1000 block was fenced off with mesh 3 netting. deputies found ammo, rat poison and pesticides at the site. no arrests have been made. time is 7:36.

san rafael wants to see if a baseball proposal is a hit with residents. they hope to bring in a semi- pro team. the city council is expected to request an independent review monday night. the review will consistent of a detailed questionnaire regarding neighborhood concerns. the baseball plan calls for 45 night games from may through september. organizers say the proposal would generate much-needed revenue for the city, but neighbors have expressed concerns about noise, traffic, and parking. it will be a celebration of life today as the ucsf children's hospital honors transplant patients and their donors. today's event is the 16th annual gathering of children from infants to teenagers who have had kidney, liver, or intestinal transplants. some of their organ donors and children waiting for transplants will also be in attendance. more than 400 guests from the bay area and throughout the country are expected. good morning to you!

welcome back. good morning to you. another gorgeous day around the bay area. temperatures similar to what we saw yesterday, slightly warmer for some spots. about two dozen people were injured early this morning in a greyhound bus crash in pennsylvania. the bus was on its way from new york city to st. louis when it flipped on its side on the pennsylvania turnpike. a woman was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by emergency crews. the crash is the latest in a series of bus accidents in the northeast this year, but most have involved smaller operators. more than 30 people have been killed in those accidents. the search continues this morning for a missing american tourist in aruba.

either a stick or twig. his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. the hunt is on for a fourth suspect in a home-invasion robbery in san rafael. police say they already have three men in custody. the robbery happened at a house on sea way at 5:30 yesterday evening. within of the men had a gun and forced his way into the house. police chased down the three suspects. officers closed down several neighborhood streets and evacuated a nearby salvation army store before apprehending the men. family members are coming to the defense of the man accused of killing a three-year- old boy in a drive-by shooting in oakland this week. right now lawrence denard is held in a segregated cell at county jail in oakland. yesterday he was scheduled to enter a plea but instead the judge postponed the hearing until late august. we spoke to his family who had harsh words for oakland police. >> not that type of person, trying to make him out an animal that he's not. and that -- we don't appreciate

service last night near the railroad tracks where the body of 13-year-old james was found on august 12, 1999. his body was wrapped in a blanket and left near a homeless camp. authorities have never been able to determine what caused his death. his family holds a prayer vigil at that site every year. the cause of a fire in solano county remains under investigation this morning. it started just after 5:30 yesterday evening on second street. in the area downtown area of isleton. officials say the fire started in a boarded up building and quickly spread to another abandoned building neck door. firefighters were able to get the fire under control by 9:00. no injuries were reported. all lanes of ignacio valley road in walnut creek are open after being closed for hours yesterday. the problem began early yesterday when a truck crashed into a power pole, knocking out electricity to about 3800 customers. pg&e crews hope to have the

so far no arrests have been made. one petaluma family who lost their home to foreclosure found a unique way to stay in the area. manuel rodriguez and his family set up across the street in a small camper. with no power and no electricity, no water. few weeks ago he says job problems and rising payments caused him to lose the home he lived in five years with his wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. he says he is staying in the area because neighbors know him and say they don't mind the camper. >> first time they ever owned a house. and what do they get? they get shafted by the banks and the real estate agents. >> his wife suffers from terminal liver and lung disease. she has moved to a nearby nursing home because her health is too fragile to live in the camper. the couple is now looking for an parm so the family can be reunited under one roof. today is the 77th anniversary celebration of the rock. alcatraz became a federal

good morning. >> reporter: good morning! yes, we right in the middle of all of it, you've got a rather large array of tents and displays and set-ups by the various campaigns and issue groups all of them trying to get the eyes, the ears of people that are here to vote in the iowa straw poll, with is really the main purpose of this event other than as a huge fund- raiser for the state of iowa's republican party. >> you mentioned fund-raiser, which candidate would you say has really been getting the most money? we know mitt romney was doing well, but when it comes to iowa, what have you seen in that area in terms of fund- raising? >> in terms of fund-raising and funds spent, my money is on ron paul. just this piece of land that they're renning for the day, they have to bid for amongst the other campaigns. that was about $31,000. he's got all sorts of tents set up, all sorts every entertainment for the kids. there's a dunk tank, slide,
