. breaking news right now on an amber alert involving a 2-year-old girl. we've learned authorities have found the suspect's car. good evening, i'm ken pritchett in for ken way. >> i'm heather holmes. breaking news is what we begin with. law enforcement officials have swarmed a rural road in el dorado county where they say the vehicle tied to the girl's alleged kidnapper her father has been located. and sources tell us two minutes

ago there are two bodies inside the vehicle. what we've learned from sources about this breaking news in this case. >> reporter: innius the last half hour the amber alert sign that had been burning all day went dark, a sign that the search has been called off. a law enforcement source has confirmed the car has been found with two bodies believed to be mourad samaan and his daughter madeline samaan-fay. the forerunner everybody was looking for was found late today in el dorado county east of sacramento. last weekend samaan was served with papers giving his wife sole custody of 2-year-old madeline. the next day he disappeared with the girl. he was supposed to return his daughter to his wife last sunday and never showed up. she reported the 2-year-old madeline samaan-fay was missing on tuesday prompting a statewide amber alert. investigators said they were looking for the green

forerunner. investigators confirping for us they've found the forerunner in el dorado county with two bodies believed to be those of samaan and 2-year-old madeline samaan-fay. we'll continue to follow the story and bring you the latest details as they become available to us. tune in tomorrow for the latest details about the investigation. clearly this is not the ending that so many had been hoping for. live in berkeley, christian captain, ktvu channel 2 news. cal fire has started to contain a fire near lake berryessa. flames broke out at 2:30 this afternoon north of the lake near knoxville road. 400 acres have burned sending thick white smoke into the air. flames are spreading away from the lake to the north. no structures are threatened. tonight crews have officially contained 5% of the names with ground crews saying there's up to 50% containment. more than 300 personnel are on the scene from multiple agencies. so far there are no reports of injuries.

for a closer look at the terrain and the conditions in what firefighters will be dealing with, we have the latest from the weather department. >> there's lake berryessa, as we come in tighter, draw in by the roadways. this is the berryessa knoxville road and this is just to the north. and right now you can see winds gusting to 10 miles an hour. temperatures have dropped to have. earlier this afternoon temperatures were in the mid-90s. right now, 70 degrees. tomorrow afternoon, forecast high in the 80s. winds will be cranking up gusting to 25 miles an hour but it will be cooler for tomorrow. as you can see with our mapping system quite a bit of topography. that is a challenge for fire crews tonight tonight and into sunday. coming up, we'll let you know how much we'll be cooling off in the bay area as we head into sunday. the internet hacker group

known as anonymous is calling for a protest against b.a.r.t. because the transit agency cut cell phone service thursday night to disrupt a demonstration. anonymous is asking people to show up for a nonviolent protest monday in san fransisco. with video cameras to capture any action. b.a.r.t.'s decision to shut down cell phone service was criticized by free speech advocates who likened it to government control of the internet and phones during the recent uprising in north africa and the middle east. b.a.r.t. said what it did was legal. they're preparing for monday's planned event. parents on the peninsula received a valuable safety tool that could help if a child is missing. the san mateo police department provided free fingerprinting today. parents received a free identification card that not only contained fingerprints, but other important information about their children, such as

height, weight, and eye color. >> i think it's important that all parents have a record of their kids' identification because especially at this age, you know, they really can't say who their mom and dad is. >> as many as 2300 children a day are reported missing here in the u.s.. officials say having a child haye vital information easily accessible can be a tremendous help to law enforcement. if he or she is missing or lost. residents of east oakland -- is. >> residents of east oakland came together to raise money for a little boy killed by gang violence. they washed cars and sold barbecue to help the parents of carlos nava. the 3-year-old was struck by a stray bullet monday an afternoon as he sat on his toy car along international boulevard and 64th avenue. police say the drive-by shooting was gang related. >> i'm hoping this stops the

violence. he is an innocent child and he doesn't deserve this. we're all here to support him and his family. >> the little boy's family stopped by the fundraiser to thank people for their support. the event continues tomorrow at 64th and international boulevard from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. 26-year-old lawrence dennard of oakland has been charged with the boy's murder. he was briefly in court yesterday but did not entder a plea. -- enter a plea. he is scheduled to be back in court on august 29th. police are still looking for a second suspect in the shooting. an oakland police are investigating five separate shootings that left two men dead and three men and boys wounded across the city in the last 24 hours. at 12:40 this morning a man was shot to death here on galinod street in the fruitvale district. another man wounded by gunfire a block away. 10 minutes earlier a 21-year-old man walking on 5th avenue and east 18th street was shot in the neck during that drive-by

attack. and at 2:10 a 17-year-old boy was hit in near drive-by this time on mcarthur boulevard and lake shore avenues. police have identified the second man shot to death last night. jesus maddo was hit. no arrests have been made in any of the shootings. the two homicides bring to 75 the number of people killed in oakland this year. and hayward firefighters responding to a call of a structure fire instead found a woman's body engulfed in flames. the disturbing find raised questions of foul play. but there may be another explanation. >> reporter: police and firefighters rushed to the scene behind motel 6 at 10:00 last night. investigators quickly realized it was a burning body. >> it could be anything from a drug deal going wrong or

somebody in the wrong place, wrong time. >> david driskell who owns the pool company two doors away was surprisedly unfazed by the death. >> have you to accept it sometimes and see it for what it is, and then if you don't, it eats at you. >> less than 50 yards from where the body burned up is this dumpster where i uncovered a bag of what appears to be evidence including clothing and cash. so i called police who responded quickly. then in came a crime scene technician. investigators are not talking today but we met a friend of the woman who even lived with her at the motel. she said the woman's nickname was brandy. 29 years old from oakland and left a piece of paper with names and numbers on it in their room. >> i contacted them this morning when i got home. one of the girls that called me, her name was tina, and she told me that she had priors on setting herself on fire. >> police say they have not ruled out suicide. >> to me, myself, don't think she did it. >> reporter: coroner officials say they think they know her

identity but haven't confirmed it. they say there's no obvious sign of trauma beyond the burns. . tragedy tonight at the indiana state fair after a stage collapsed killing at least three people. watch, officials say country music duo sugarland was about to take the stand when high winds caused the stage's rigging to collapse, trapping and injuries dozens of fans. three people are confirmed dead tonight. at least two dozen others were injured. >> people were trapped inside. i climbed over and the first person i came to was laying down and her and her daughter, there was something on top of her, and i mean, everything happened so fast. >> sugarland tweeted after the incident saying "we are already. we are praying for our fans and

fellow democrat john perez. as punishment because portantino won't vote yes on a state budget. portantino received reports on how much lawmakers received for their staff. those documents are incomplete and possibly misleading. right now the figures are released to the public a year after the money has been spent. that's practice portantino wants changed. val hoe voters have a chose of two for their next mayor, ozzie davis will face off against sighably in the next election. valet hoe is emerging from bankruptcy after three years. a proposal to raise sales taxes by 1 cent will also appear on the november ballot. city businesses in oakland are staying closed for an extra day after the weekend due to budget cuts. city officials say the services

affected on monday include street sweeping, animal services, and senior centers. the closures are part of an agreement by labor unions to help cut city costs. officials say emergency services will not be affected. several people are in the hospital tonight after an accident in petaluma. two pickup trucks crashed into each other head on around 8:40 last night on lakeville highway near old lakeville road. eight people were taken to the hospital. at least one suffered major injuries. the accident shut down lakeville highway for two hours. authorities say alcohol may have been a factor in that crash. the pacifica man whose wife was mauled to death by the family's pit bull calls it a freak accident and does not blame the dog. he says his two pit bulls were loving animals. he found his wife darla thursday afternoon in their home. she had bite marks on her face, neck, and arm.

and one of the couple's pit bulls was nearby. the dog was shot when it approached paramedics. results of a necropsy is expected in a couple of weeks. suspects are accused of threatening prosecutors. the mercury news reports that peter lefbrick was arrested for circulating threatening flyers about a prosecutor. they contained personal details including information about her children. he now faces 12 criminal counts. and 24-year-old timothy priolo is accused of ordering a hit on a prosecutor during that undercover sting. he faces a charge of murder for hire along with unrelated charges. we're learning more tonight about last night's four-alarm fire in sacramento county. it happened in isleston. the two buildings destroyed in the fire were condemned three

years ago. neighbors say transients may have been living in the buildings. no one was hurt in the fire and investigators are still trying to figure out a cause. right now the outside lands music festival is wrapping up a second nearly sold out night in golden gate park. we're live in san fransisco with what the huge crowds mean for the future of the events. >> reporter: people making their way to the parking lot and making their way home. 60,000 people here tonight. another 60,000 expected tomorrow. and after some uncertainty last year organizers tell us they have momentum to keep the event going for years. a big saturday lineup of bands, including the black keys. . verizon show workers shows know sign of ending. both sides of the ongoing labor dispute filed formal charges accusing the other of not negotiating in good faith. verizon has called in the f.b.i. to investigate alleged incidents of sabotage. 45,000 workers went on strike early monday. it is the largest strike since an action against general motors back in 2007. u.s. and pakistani authorities are looking for an executive taken by kidnappers. several gunmen went into the home of warren weinstein, grabbed him, and got away. more than 30 hours have now passed, no one has come forward to demand ransom. >> pakistan, which is america's

san rafael police continue their manhunt for a suspect in a home invasion robbery. hast night at 6 p.m., four men invaded the home on seaway. one had a gun. it's unknown what property they took but the homeowner was not injured during the robbery. officers quickly arrested three suspects, the fourth, though, remains on the loose. . still ahead, oakland residents pitched in today doing work once done by city workers cleaning up their neighborhoods and parks. and those body scanners at airports may soon get a modesty modification. we'll tell you about the changes being made.

division, we don't have a tree planting crew any more. >> reporter: she says the volunteers help. >> for the moment it's a good bandaid, you know. it's like it can maybe get us through these hard times. >> reporter: and it's not a once a year effort. they clean up this park every other weekend. the reality of budget cuts and bad economy have spurred them to action. we have to live here. before we could afford to sell for a lot of money and move, now we can't. we have to make it work. >> we're a community. we have to share the work and put a little of ourselves into it. >> reporter: he says it's a lesson he wants his son to learn and live by, too. . families in berkeley took part in a birthday. the historic merry-go-round was built 100 years ago. they enjoyed face painting, crafts, a birthday cake and

carousel rides. it was built in 1911 in new york state and was taken to several spots across southern california before finding a permanent home in berkeley in 1948. changes are coming to those controversial body scanners at the airport. the transportation safety administration is unveiling new screening techniques that could make going through security a lot less invasive for travelers. newly updated software for body scan machines in baltimore, washington, international airport no longer show an image of the passage. the tsa says the change increases privacy without sacrificing safety. >> what we have is that general eric outline of the human body, and the passengers can see the same thing our officer see. >> the tsa plans to upgrade the software by this fall. california is leading the nation in a crime. the f.b.i. says mortgage fraud

remains widespread in the depressed housing market. florida and new york follow california as the top states where the crime which last year involved some $10 billion in loans. common schemes include using false information for buyers who otherwise would be ineligible for a loan, or inflated appraisals to lure innocent buyers. exxon held on to the title as the nation's most valuable company after a close race with apple this week. apple passed the oil company on wall street tuesday afternoon and then on wednesday after the close. exxon which has been number one since 2005 regained the top spot on thursday. and stayed there for the rest of the week. still, exxon shares are down 11.5% since the end of june, while apple shares gained 12.3%. with classes beginning on monday in san fransisco, some students got a little extra help in starting the school year off right. 3200 free backpacks filled with

. well, the fog finally cleared out of the entire bay area this afternoon leaving us with a mostly sunny skies and warm numbers out there. right now on the maps we do

still have mostly clear skies over a good portion of the bay area. as we come in tighter, look at our buoys, you can see winds coming outs of the west northwest, gusting to 33 miles an hour. throughout the day today i'll trace out of winds we had a northerly wind. cleared out the clouds and fog. even the beaches enjoyed plenty of sunshine. temperatures from today, we warmed up over yesterday's readings. temperature ranging from the mid-60s to the coast, warmest hoecations inland, and hot side in fairfield, antioch and livermore. a look at our forecast for tonight, clear skies, breeze out there. tomorrow, patchy morning fog, temperatures come down a few degrees and a warming trend is showing up on the long range weather maps. first thing tomorrow morning, partly cloudy skies, patchy fog on the coast, and santa rosa dropping down into the upper 40s and for outside lands for
