a story you will see only on 2. a woman who was a raider et, then a police officer in vacaville. ktvu's pall dr. tells us why she says she got a less than warm welcome there and what she is doing about it. >> reporter: for four years she cheered here at oakland stadium. hereof is a picture of her as a cheerleader. 1997-2001. in 2004 she became a police officer. now she is suing for $1.5 million plus damages. the suit states she was harassed. discriminated against. she claims the chief had knowledge about these issues and refused to do anything about them and was injured and had to go on light duty and

earthquake. a small one though. the 3.5 quake struck after 2:00 a.m. it was three miles south of the geysers. no reports of injuries or damage. ktvu channel 2 news parking lot turned into earthquake central. experts showed us what happens when the big one hits. this is a simulation taking place inside what is called the big shaker. the trailer is equipped to show what could happen to your home during a major earthquake. the head of the earthquake authority says if your home survives the contents could be tossed around in the air. >> there are ways to make sure that doesn't happen. put special hanger hooks so the art don't come flying off.

over. ktvu's rita williams has more. >> reporter: oakland school officials just finished meeting here a few minutes ago with police and security officers for the school district. >> reporter: a little more than an hour ago officers scurried upstairs here to hear the news. >> oakland's school police chief pete sarna submitted his requirement papers effective today, wednesday, august, 17. >> requirement not resignation? >> not a resignation. he is officially retired from law enforcement. >> reporter: this is after allegations that pete sarna launched racial slurs as a african american sergeant last month. officials say the department had not completed that internal

overcrossing that top of the vene, that is francisco boulevard. the lower part of the screen is san rafael. the hotel is to the left of five 80. as a result of 580 closed down, we can put up pictures from news chopper 2, some of the back up, this, i believe, is off of the richmond-san rafael bridge. those cars there are heading westbound and what they have to do is all funnel down on to francisco boulevard a two lane road and work their way down to highway 101. that is the detour. the bottom line, traffic is backed up all the way across the richmond-san rafael bridge and we are hearing there are delays up to an hour and some folks are taking alternate routes, including over 137 heading towards novato. there are backups there as

well. all of this started as a result of a man accused of stabbing a clerk during a attempted robbery, he is held up on the second floor of this hotel. the s.w.a.t. brought in a armored truck. there are police there. they are in contact with him. the reason they are concerned is because the man has a wep he has fired one shot. he also may be holding his girlfriend as a hostage. police say at least they have been in contact with him all during the day and they are still in contact with him and what they plan to do is wait this out till they get him to come out of the hotel. we are continuing to cover the story and we will have cover rog on the newscast and at 6:00 and you can go to www.ktvu.com to get details on all of the detours and live traffic

information. san francisco police proudly released new crime statistics today and the numbers show it's a safer city but ktvu's david stevenson is live to tell us why police still have their work cut out for them. >> these numbers and a picture of how well san francisco police are doing on the job. >> in these first 100 days chief shown his leadership. >> reporter: new figures by the san francisco police department show violent crime dropped 6% compared to last year. the city continues to be troubled by an increase in domestic violence and shooting victims. nonviolent crimes are also on the rise. crimes the chief says resident can prevent by being more careful. >> we can't arrest our selves.

@. we into follow developing news that is happening in the north bay and effecting traffic throughout the bay area. this is a picture you never see in the middle of the commute. this stretch of 580, between sir francis drake and 101 has been closed down now. a mile stretch and that is effecting a lot of drivers, adding an hour to their drive time. these people are on the richmond-san rafael bridge. this picture hasn't changed that much in all the times we have been showing it to you. you see a lot of cars on the bridge and traffic is inching along.
