"mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. this is day two of the san rafael incident. jade hernandez has more. jade? >> reporter: we've just learned from san rafael police, the spokeswoman, told us this is a shift change. so you are gonna see s.w.a.t. members switch out. this is the back side of the extended stay deluxe hotel. you can see this is where officers are and the sheriff's squad car in the foreground. we're still waiting for a complete update from the san rafael spokeswoman but she did tell us that right now there's not much to report. she did speak to us when we -- when we arrived this morning and this is what she could tell us. >> the negotiation conversations have slowed down due to the length of time. it's nighttime hours. but nothing has changed in terms of, you know, we're taking this slowly and want to

continue the dialogue, which a good thing, that he's talking to negotiators -- which is a good thing thats he's talking to negotiators -- that he's talking to negotiators. >> reporter: the extended stay deluxe hotel where this man has birry cadeed himself is a -- barricaded himself is along the freeway. the spokesperson said they are not releasing the man's name but he has his girlfriend in the room with him and police have not had any contact with her so they are treating this as a hostage situation. officers learned a man suspected of stabbing a clerk in the san rafael district on sunday was in the hotel. when officers arrived, the man fired a shot toward the freeway. that's one of the reasons they put up the barricaded.

president of syria to step down. she just finished her statement. you are looking live at the room at the podium where the second of state made those comments. just 30 minutes ago, president obama released a statement calling for syrian president's resignation and condemning his flagrant disrespect of the dignity of the syrian people. he said the assad government has been con telled in all parts of the -- condemned in all parts of the world, not just the united states. we'll continue to have more on that coming up. meanwhile, all of this global unrest is contributing to concerns on wall street where right now stocks are down. the dow is currently down 453 and falling down below 11,000, 10,957. in addition to concerns about the global economy, there was also some disappointing jobless claims that came out and some

jail. 23-year-old carlson was last seen leaving a bar on august 2nd. now, on monday morning, jason ross gillly was arrested on kidnapping and false imprisonment charges. how far, in court yesterday, no charges were filed. >> this does not mean criminal charges won't be filed. this just means that at this time, the district attorney for whatever reason decided not to file charges. it could mean they are waiting for further evidence. >> he was released yesterday move. -- he was released yesterday. police are searching the kale la ver res -- kalaveras river. funeral arrangements are set for a woman who was walking from the pittsburg bay point b.a.r.t. station to her home on bridge view, just a quarter mile away.

investigators say the suspect, luis ramirez, admits to running a red light and hitting her in the crosswalk. he left the scene but came back 45 minutes later saying he left because he was scared. police in the south bay have now identified a suspect in connection with the triple homicide at san jose's mexicali club in january. investigators are asking for the pub lip's help to find a man, 26-year-old arturo velasquez. police say he can be seen in a surveillance video holding a gun and wearing a bulletproof vest. police say he and two other men had attempted to kidnap the club's owner. the two other men were shot and killed as well as a third man who came to the club owner's defense. 7:09. the dow down 500 points. we'll be watching that. we're also watching sal.

he's watching urcommute. sal? >> that's right. heather holmes is on her way in the city. i told her, heather, you are gonna be there for about 20 minutes or so before you get on the span. so in you are driving -- if you are driving onto the bay bridge, the traffic is gonna be slow on the bay bridge as well. there are no major problems. if you are driving on 237 in the southeast bay, very thick traffic and getting out to 880. 880 itself is also slow. we continue to also watch the contra costa commute. but we're looking at 280 northbound, getting up to highway 17. i mentioned contra costa because i've been looking at the maps on the antioch freeways. you can see traffic in both directions is kind of slow due to that construction zone. 680 is slow from pleasant hill to walnut creek.

well, good morning. b.a.r.t. police officers pretty upset after a hacking attack leaked their personal information. somebody hacked into the b.a.r.t. police union's website yesterday morning. now, this latest hack attack and another one over the weekend of b.a.r.t.'s marketing website when they cut off the cell phone service last week trying to block a planned protest. >> this is a policy discussion. bring it to the b.a.r.t. board. we'll be meeting next week. let's talk about it there and leave the innocent people out of this. >> now, the hacker group to cut off communications on the cell phone took credit for the

weekend attack but says it had nothing to do with the leaking of the private information of b.a.r.t. police officers. a florida teen has been arrested after threatening to blow up his former school and claim more victims than columbine. 17-year-old jair red kano -- jaredkano was arrested. >> they found a man fess toe written by -- manifesto written by jared about his actions on the first day of school, including detonating explosive devices through the school. >> police found materials to make pipe bombs at his home -- at his home and believe he was acting alone. he was expelled for an unidentified outside incident. school officials say classes will start on tuesday as scheduled. let's see what's happening

on the roads and get you to where you need to know -- need to go. how is it looking? >> well, i will say it's a moderate commute. we haven't had any huge accidents. but traffic is slowing down as we're in the middle of the commute. we'll see a lot of slow traffic and parts of the east bay. right now as you look at 880 on the right and left. traffic is gonna be moderate. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see that the traffic there is going to be -- i would say it's pretty typical pretty normal for this time -- for this time of the morning. if you are driving on the east bay commutes, that's not filled in yet. this might be an opportunity to head south. if you are in livermore, very slow but it evens out in dublin. moving this down to the south bay, the heaviest traffic right now is on highway 85 heading north to cupertino. let's go to mark.

top democrats have raked in millions of dollars. "the associated press" found that democrats received more than $15 million from political action committees. president obama's campaign and the democratic national committee, they have not taken money from lobbyists or political action committees. state assemblyman are putting pressure on democratic officials to release accurate records of spending. the committee release -- recent lip released letters from currently -- from previous years. the records show incomplete and sometimes misleading budget allocations. expect a bill to go up in san francisco's first mayor's race with public financing.

helping him elude authorities during 16 years as a fugitive. she faces up to five years behind bars. police in britain have arrested a former hollywood reporter for "news of the world." the reporter was arrested at a london police station after he went there, as requested, for questioning. the charges are believed to relate to events prior to him being promoted to the newspaper's los angeles-based u.s. editor back in 2009. his arrest is the 13th since the phone hacking investigations began. the tsa is testing a program that uses friendly conversation to key -- to detect suspicious behavior. for the next two months, passengers will need to pass a

the world on more signs of economic weakness. according to new reports just out this morning, the u.s. government says more people filed for unemployment benefits last week than expected. back up 400,000 and there's signs that inflation is rising. consumers paid more last month for gas, food and clothes. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is down 476. it was below 500, below 1,000, once again. however, nasdaq is down 122. s&p, down 54. gold almost up -- gold up 2%. car dealers say they are unlikely to meet their earlier predictions for the sales this year. many say you can tell how the stock market is doing by how many are in showrooms. and experts say sales are not as strong as usual. shoppers may see better deals toward the end of the year.
