it is still going on. we're live at the scene of that standoff in marin county, now in its second day. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. this standoff started yesterday in san rafael and it's still going on at the extended stay hotel on francisco boulevard, very close to 580. tara moriarty is live at the scene to-- scene to let us know if there's been any new developments. tara? >> reporter: still no word from the hotel. we're waiting for s.w.a.t. teams and agencies from sonoma county, marin county eastbound sacramento has been rotating in to figure out how to get this man and his girlfriend out safely. officials have placed a large

crane, draping a piece of metal. this was done as a precallsary measure since the police say he shot -- he shot a gun out from that window. we don't know if his girlfriend is being held against her will or not. we have a surveillance photo of the man. police believe he's responsible for stabbing a grocery store worker sunday in san rafael. officers traipsed in here yesterday morning and have been trying to negotiate with him ever since. >> he certainly demonstrated a propensity towards violence when he stabbed the store clerk. and now he's armed. he shot from a gun. so we are proceeding with caution. >> reporter: susan and her husband are from maryland.

made investors skittish. last week, 408,000 people applied for benefits. that's more than the week before, and back up the keenum of 400,000 -- key key number of 400,000. and in the faith of a weak job market, consumers are paying more for gas, food and clothes. the index drove half a point. gas prices is falling. it's down $83 a barrel. the volatility could make it harder for people to be convinced to buy more bonds. kraig debro is live in san francisco with more on what else is being impacted. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. we come here on days like these because at fidelity investments they provide a ticker. as you look at some of the --

at some of the numbers there. the ten-year treasury yielded. the commodities are down. crude oil prices, tori mentioned that. remember when they were $100 a barrel? trading near $83 a barrel. one of the other measures that rise continue to gold now trading near $1820 an ounce. if you invest in the stock market. what's happening, you probably lost money. individual investors, i.r.a.s, 401(k)s, just to name a few are all effected -- affected. today was a global selloff. in asia, japan's export fell for the fifth straight month. morgan stanley wrote a report that both the u.s. and economies are dangerously close to a recession. you don't have to be a morgan stanley economist to know the future on wall street doesn't look good -- doesn't look great.

minutes ago, searchers cleared the san francisco piers and are now headed back off the waters to treasure island. this morning authorities went to talk to his friends at a home on treasure island. investigators are still you calling the disappearance an accident. investigators say he's not in great shape. he is on disability and is taking medication. authorities are looking for the people who set fire to a junior high school. the fire was started in the locker room area of walters junior high about 7:00 last night. the fire caused $100,000 in damage. most of that was contained to the ban back of the building. the -- to the back of the building. there is an orientation at the school. coming up in about ten minutes, an announcement this morning designed to make students safer. it concerns the streets around schools in one bay area city. the chief of oakland school districts police force has

lower 60s. a little bit of haze out there. today, it will be warmer than yesterday. these are all minor changes. now, the coast, that's the one constant with the fog out there. from point reyes down to ocean beach, pacifica and at least for a good portion of the county coastline. as far as the coast story, it's this -- we have clearing skies. tomorrow, more fog out there. temperatures will be cooler and the weekend more fog and our cooling trend continues primarily into saturday. current numbers, it's warming up there. look at livermore at 12:00 here, 81. san jose, 76. oakland, 65. and santa rosa all morning long dealing with some dense fog finally reporting mostly sunny skies and the current temperature. 70 degrees. for today -- for today, high pressure trying to rebuild. here is the change as we head into friday and saturday, this

cooler weather system move -- moves in from the north. it will stretch out the marine layier and that will lead to more fog across the bay area and temperatures come down at least a good 3 to 6 degrees for tomorrow. here is our forecast model coming in and surging back. 8:00, 9:00. there could be drizzle out there. this could be dense at least as we head into the evening hours. >> forecast highs for today, a big range. you can see from around 60 in pacifica. brentwood tops out around 90. these temperatures will check in right around 3:00, 4:00. morgan hill in the upper 89 os. here is a look ahead. your extended -- your extended forecast and your weekend always in view. you will notice what happens with temperatures. they do cool off into saturdays. barely making it up to the 80- degree mark. and then sunday a little bit of bump in the numbers. that warming trend will continue monday and tuesday.
