investigators are here, the place is teaming with police and muni officials. police are trying to figure out what happened. what we know is that about 90 minutes ago a female pedestrian was struck and killed by this bus. the shuttle was coming down 18th treat and making a left on hartford when the pedestrian was struck. the woman's body has not been removed from the scene. what is puzzling is why the muni driver made a left on to hartford, it is a narrow street and does not lead anywhere. it is essentially a dead end and the residents in the area say they never remember a bus turning on to hartford street so that is one problem that police and muni officials are trying to figure out. we have seen the driver, the driver is sitting in the back of a police squad car right now and he has turned up his collar

6:00 when i was hit. a pentegram and blood from animal sacrifices are worrying people. >> the symbol is just up beyond that path right outside the gates of that tower. it's the latest in disturbing items that park visitors say they found here. >> this park's views are marred toast by a white pentegram painted below the base of a tower. the park visitors that spotted it said they came across a shocking sight. a cross and pure blood and black candles on each end of the cross and a bird was dead and full of blood too. >> two long time dog walkers

said that they feel that the park has long been a site for animal sacrifice. they find rabbits and goat heads, the dogs dig them up. they wrap them in cloths or whatever. >> he has found the heads of squirrels and birds left in trees. parks officials were shocked when we told them about the pentegram and say it's unclear whether it's happened before. it puts other -- it puts animals at risk. >> the parks can department said that they will send a crew to clean away the symbol. the animal and welfare department told me what the agency will be looking into animal sacrifice allegations.

they sent an officer out to the park this afternoon to investigate. reporting live in san francisco. coming up at 4:15, another spot where authorities are taking a closer look. a crime trend and how you can protect yourself. he is in a wheelchair and just suffered a stroke and now he is in a jail cell. we are told about the very serious cold case from the '70s that he was arrested for and how he was tracked down after all these years. >> this 61-year-old man is being held here at the santa clara county jail, held without bail. his family is shocked and believe that authorities have the wrong man. he is being held for murder. >> he was wheeled into superior court this afternoon make ago short appearance infront of a judge. his family said that two days ago he was in a hospital and police showed up and arrested him for murder. >> the guy just had a stroke.

they are in the hospital for a week and a half, 2 weeks, and he cannot walk or stand up. >> the district attorney's office cold case unit said that in 1979 when he was 29 years old he attacked and killed a woman. investigators say her body was found inside a trailer and she was stabbed 30 times. we have both of their dna on a, marijuana cigarette. >> one of the best workers i ever had. >> the family does not know why it took the police 30 days to

investigate the case. the police say that dna testing did not expect back then. and there's lots of cases waiting to be tested. >> it's important to solve the crime no matter how longity. >> the police and the das office are in touch with the woman's police. this is the third case that was solved since the cold case unit was reestablished this year. california's jobless rate climbed to 12% last month. the employment development department announced the new rate today. the state gained 4500 jobs in july. in the bay area, unemployment remains in double digits in most counties. there were slight increases in the jobless rating according to the state department.

the derby girls lost all of the team's finances. they are holding a fundraising party complete with roller derbydemos. a 2-alarm house fire led to the death of a 88-year-old woman. the fire started at around 9:00. she was taken to the hospital and transferred to the burn unit in san francisco. that is where she died this morning. investigators say they believe the fire began accidentally but they have not released any specific details about the cause. the fight is on to save homes and keep interstate 5 open near the road river in oregon. a fire broke out and has burned 400-acres, firefighters have held the fire lines for the most part. three out buildings have burned

live pictures right now from san francisco, what you are looking at here is the corner of 18th and hartford in san francisco, it's a block away from castro. what has happen study that a muni bus has -- what has happened is that a muni bus has hit and killed a woman. we have been working to gather the information. rob roth is there, rob, what are we hearing now? >> investigators and police are here and as you see there's attention focused on this shuttle bus. police have not released a lot of information, but we know the bus came down 18th street and made a left on to hartford and then struck a female pedestrian

that is pronounced dead here at the scene. the driver is sitting in the back of a police car, no indication that he is under arrest. one question is why the shuttle turned on to narrow hartford, what police just told me literally one minute ago was that the bus was pulled out of regular service and turned to a shuttle bus and the bus driver was going to castro and market. there had been a rumor that perhaps the bus was somehow hijacked but that is not absolutely not true. that is not what happened. the bus driver made this turn and unfortunately it resulted in the death of a female pedestrian. and that is what we have here? san francisco, rob roth, ktvu, channel 2 news. >> do we know whether the woman was in the crosswalk when she

was hit? >> we do not know. there has not been information to specifics of the accident. judging on where the police are focusing attention, it looks like she was in the crosswalk. it and not appear that it's one of those crosswalks that is lined. it's a narrow street. but it does look like she was in an area that would be a normal place to cross and not jay walking. all right. live in san francisco. thank you, rob. a legal fight for a bay area home owner that said a woman that is renting his house is not paying the rent and refuses to move out. we found court records what show the woman has done this before. alex? >> well, that home owner came here to court today, asking a judge for help in trying to evict this woman, he said she is renting his house without paying. and according to court records other landlords had the same problem with her. the man that owns this

house in pittsburgh said he is not allowed inside. he said it's a frustrating situation because his tentent has not paid rent since january. can't go in and mess with her furniture, it's her home and she is legally entitled to it. >> this is this woman renting. she is fighting the eviction order in court right now and told us her side of things today. >> they are lying. >> what are they lying abou ? >> i tried to pay the rent and they would not take it. he stopped asking for rents money and filed suit. she has been taken to court before by other landlords. a search of court records show 10 other similar cases dating back to 1994. >> she stayed in my house for 8- 9 months without paying rent and refusing to leave.

hp announced a multi-billion dollar acquisition, they signed an agreement for a british software company. the acquisition should be complete by the end of the year. investors are criticizing the move calling it risky and expensive. the new ipad 3 which could be released by the end of the year will have a higher resolution than the current ipad 2, no other details have been given. apple reported selling more than 9 million ipads that is a 183% increase compared to the same time last year. a new bill has been sent to governor brown that could make entire apartment buildings

the chp released a photo showing a truck that is similar to the one that investigators are looking for in a hit and run case that left a man dead. it's a f-150 pickup truck, someone driving a truck like this one hit and killed donald casper, he was the son of the

fire chief. casper was jogging when the truck hit him on sunday. a bill is on its way to governor brown to keep protesters away from funerals. the u.s. supreme court has upheld the group's right to protest but the california courts think that keeping them away by a thousand feet will stand up to protesters. the state realignment plan, it will shift low level inmates to county jails beginning october first. the counties are worried they will not have enough money to support the inmates. >> it's important for the local stake holders to evaluate how

clapper rails are an endangered species. experts think they came from san mateo county to lay eggs. the birds have been spotted in the bay view district, attracting a lot of positive attention for a neighborhood that has been known for violent crime. the first mosquito was trapped in oakly. it is normal for the virus to be more prevelent in this time of year. so far this year, california has recorded 12 human cases of west nile virus and 609 mosquitoes have tested positive
