candlestick park. complete bay area news coverage starts right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 6:00. good evening i am frank somerville. >> and i am julie haener. we learned bart shut down the powell station and as protesters make their way from the civic center bart station, that was shut down earlier. right now to alex saverage who is here with the latest. >> reporter: could be a tough commute. i want to show you the scene behind us. we are above the powell street station. right there, representatives from bart and bart police officers as well turning away a number of passengers hoping to go down and catch a train. powell station closed a few moments ago. i asked how long it would be shut down, they don't know. we will get you pictures here from chopper 2 of the crowd.

the protesters that made their way down market street past us. these are members, many of them members of "anonymous." they are upset with the -- at first the shooting that happened at the civic center bart station, the bart police shooting and then upset that cell service was cut off during one of the protests. they marched down montgomerymist -- down market street. he said down market street. but we understand they may possibly be making their way back up market street past our location. again, the important information for anyone looking to take bart here in san francisco, powell station closed. civic center bart station closed as well. we will keep an eye on the scene along market street in san francisco. ktvu channel 2 news. we want to show you more pictures, live pictures from news chopper 2. they are on market street. not only do we have the civic

center bart station and the powell station closed but we have traffic issues here on market street itself because as you can see the protesters have blocked off one side there of market street long with the police there who are following them. all of this started one hour ago at the civic center bart station. ktvu's david stevenson is there now with what led up to all of this. dave smud. >> reporter: look behind me. the gentlemen is talking to -- gentleman is talking to people who is wanting to go home. this has been going on for a half hour since the civic center bart station was closed down. we have pictures from the scene, just a half hour ago. you see one man was arrested in the course of the protest. he was taken away in handcuffs. he is one of three that was

arrested. guards shut the gates down about 5:30. they directed people out towards other bart stations. powell station closed at 5:45. above aground one protester told us why he came to the protest this week. >> police should be disbanned and turned over to the local police. they act in any fashion they chose. >> reporter: you can see the gentleman is directing people trying to make their way home. good news is we discovered in talking to people, people were aware the protest would be taking place. a number of people made plans to find alternate transportation to get home and avoid this happening. reporting live, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. as we have been reporting "anonymous" who helped organize

this protest is angry over bart's policy of shutting down cell phone service on august 12. today we spoke to a representative from the group. >> we will be out here as long as they are willing to consider shutting off cell phone service and denying people their first amendment right. >> bart doesn't seem to be backing away. although the president said he doesn't foresee a shut down tonight. we will continue our live coverage on the protest over the next half hour. this is a live look from news chopper 2 as the protesters are marking down market street. they are getting close to the hyet at -- hyatt at the base of market street. close to the embarcadero station. what we are watching for is

whether montgomery station or embarcadero station is closed down. right now powell station and civic center bart station is closed down. we have news chopper 2 here as you can see as well as multiple cruise on the ground following the situation and we will check back in in a little bit. manger changes to 49ers games following saturday's battle of the bay. ktvu's paul chambers is live with what fans can expect in the coming weeks. >> reporter: they are recommending this battle of the bay here at candlestick park be the last between the two for a pre-season for a while. >> reporter: we captured this fight in the stands, one of several fights that took place saturday during the 49ers- raiders game. there were a third less fans in attendance still, this being a rivalry extra security was

called in. >> there were 40% more san francisco police officers assigned to the game. >> reporter: that is in addition to the security guards provided by the 49ers. big changes are in store for fans. the management says if they deem necessary they will end alcohol sales early like they did saturday. >> at the end of the 3rd quarter and we will revisit those. >> when you leave the game, especially since alcohol sales cease in plenty of time, get in your car, no tailgating after the game. go home. >> reporter: expect to see more check points after each game and more security and officers in and outside of the stadium. they are reviewing all the fights from the weekend and turning the video over to the police. >> the behavior that happened on saturday is not going to be

tolerated. any season ticket holders that are caught, acting that way, your tickets will be revoked. >> reporter: police made 70 ejectionsjections. live, paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco mayor ed lee is denouncing the violence. he witnessed some of the fights himself as he was in the stands watching the game. he watched with horror as he saw several confrontations. he called at the behavior irresponsible and he is working to review the tapes and identify those people involved in the fights. three people went to the hospital because of that violence. a 26-year-old man who was found unconscious in a bath room is now in fair condition. police say two men suffered gun shot wounds in the parking lot.

a man was treated and released from the hospital but another man who was shot multiple times remains in fair condition. ktvu's john sasaki is live at the hospital where he spoke with that man's father today. >> reporter: two men are recovering from their injuries. we talked to the father of the shooting victim and he is outraged because he can't understand how a football game could lead to this violence. >> reporter: his son was shot four times after the 49ers- raiders game. it happened as his son and two friends tried to help another fan who was attacked. >> instinct took over, he got in to his truck and tried to drive. he opened his door and the guy at the gate saved my son's life. he said i am dying and he call 911. >> reporter: he is grateful to

that worker. he has been upgreated to -- upgraded to serious condition. >> it's the people's fault, you know, for not controlling yourself. >> reporter: he was forgiving of the gunman and spoke to him through our camera. >> i hope you don't suffer any of this, you know, that's not the way it's supposed to be. find whatever it is in your life so you make a change and do something to pay for this. >> reporter: he was palled by the violence that happened. live in san francisco, john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. >> www.ktvu.com has complete coverage of the violence at the

game and the fallout. look for the especially tab. norman welch wiped away tears as he plead not guilty and then ordered freed on bail. his father posted the $100,000 bail. last friday a co-defendant also pleaded not guilty. if convicted they could face life prison. child psychiatrist accused of molesting his patients is headed to a mental hospital. prosecutors said william ayres suffers from dementia. he will not stand trial but undergo mental health evaluation. the district attorney says he will spend six months at napa

state hospital. the trial of joseph naso will go on as scheduled. a judge denied his request to postpone his preliminary hearing set for september 6. he told the judge he needs legal counsel now. he is charged with willing four women between 1977 and 1974. hewlett-packard saw its shares raise today. from hold to buy but dropped the price target from $43 to $32 a share. last week's sell off may have value. hewlett-packard said 20% last friday. hewlett-packard shares were up over 3.5% today. wall street logged gains after another trading day.

bank stocks struggled today. wells fargo cut its price target for its stocks and said it willened the debt rewards program for all customers in october. the dow jones industrial average rose 37 points to close at 10,854.65. nasdaq rose 3.54 points to 2,345.38. new questions are raised over the future of the state teachers pension fund. the program's asts will be gone in 30 years. it is funded at 71%. that's below the 80% standard considered necessary. >> stayed the same over the last decade and the state's contribution for the plan itself has dropped from 40% to 2%. -- 4% to 2%. astronauts meets the crowds here amid serious questions about america's future in

police are seen marching with the protesters. this stems from the civic center bart station which is still closed at this hour. it began there around 5:00 tonight. the group "anonymous" organized the demonstration, a similar demonstration from last monday evening in which four bart stations were shut down the civic center bart station, powell street station, montgomery station and embarcadero. we received word civic center bart station is still closed but the powell street station has been reopened. we will continue to keep an eye on the protesters. we be known of three arrests. we will continue to watch them and have more information if we get it later in the newscast. four of the astronauts who flew on the final mission has information on the future of the space flight.

japan has an early warning system that alerts people 20 seconds before an earthquake strikes. it will keep the iphone constantly connected to the warning network. great idea the earthquake warning system on the iphone. right now fog and long the coast, the east coast, they are dealing with hurricane irene, category 2. look that track the hurricane takes. by thursday and friday and saturday threatening the carolinas. could be a category 2. this one could impact travel plans towards the end of the week. we will watch it for you. category one right now -- or two. the forecast is for increasing temperatures. tomorrow mid-90s. low 90s in the warmest spots.
