county destroyed one home. killing 100 pet rabbits and goats. two mobile homes also burned to the ground there. a deadly plane crash sparked a gas fire in current county that tonight is burning out of control. the canyon fire has grown to at least 1,000 acres in just a matter of hours. right now it is 0% contained. 30 homes evacuated. it started around 11:30 this morning after a small plane went down in tapachepe. investigators are looking into the death of a washington state man found at yosemite national park. park rangers say jean hall appears to have died of natural causes. hall was found near his tent. search teams had been looking for him since thursday.

hall's death is the 18th so far this year. coroner's have identified the body of a man found dead after a stand off. deputies say andrew harper barricaded himselfed in a unit. a woman who was also inside got out before deputies arrived. about a half hour later, harper let the children go. negotiators try to convince him to surrender. deputies entered the apartment and found harper dead inside. a petaluma man has been arrested after trying to lure a 15-year-old girl into his car.

sayed ferdows tried to lure the girl into the car. police told ktvu they do not think he is connected to the kidnapping of a 23-year-old woman early that morning. mentecino county sheriff's deputy spotted aaron vasler outside his mother's home. masler ran into the woods and has not been seen yesterday. he's accused of gunning down jerry melow yesterday. authorities now also believe vasler killed matthew coleman last month. san francisco may get all the attention but oakland is also home to one of the largest gay populations in the country. today that city hosted its second annual gay pride

it was a homecoming to remember tonight for a bay area soldier back from afghanistan. jade hernandez is live now at oakland international airport where the soldier was met by a very special pool of guests. >> reporter: that's right just three hours ago we watched a first meeting between a soldier and his new daughter marly lynne. soon he'll have a purple heart to share with her as well. >> reporter: the cheer, the signs and hugs from his wife all for private aaron heart. >> i am kind of in shock. i'm in disbelief he's everyone coming home. >> reporter: then the meeting of a lifetime to one -week-old emily lynne. >> i'm a veteran myself. that makes our family as every generation has had somebody served mainly army.

>> reporter: that's aaron's father the man who explained his son was one of seven hurt in combat just a month ago. aaron suffered a shrapnel wound to his calf. he's already been nominated for a medal of valor, and now a purple heart. >> it's huge. >> reporter: aaron has been traveling for more than a week. he had to travel from kandahar to kuwait, to dallas. >> a lot of people thanked me, said hi. >> they're heros, all of them are. but i don't think they're all comfortable being placed on that pedestal. >> it doesn't worth what happened to get it but it's all right. >> i'm very proud of him. he's a very, very just a really

good kid. >> and father for others he's someone his brothers and others in the community can look up to. he's a graduate of livermore high. he's expected to come home for good to the united states sometime after the first of the year. reporting live in oakland, jade hernandez. the u.s. army says a decorated soldier from livermore has died of rabies. kevin schumaker served from may 2010 until may of this year. officials say he died last wednesday in new york where he was stationed for. the military says how he contracted rabies is unconfirmed. shumaker is survived by his mother and father. the event was part of

national disaster preparedness day. it included presentations by the police department and the red cross. the event was important due to the fact that most residents lack sufficient preparation as well as adequate supplies for any kind of natural disaster. >> we're grossly understood prepared for a natural disaster which shouldn't be the case especially since we live in california. those who attended the event were given energy supplies and provided tips on how to prepare for a disaster. just days before the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, federal authorities are warning that terrorists may try to launch another attack by using a small plane. >> reporter: terrorists are intend on using small planes to carry out an attack on america. that's the word tonight from the fbi and homeland security. it's a warning that pilot jena wells is taking seriously. we caught up with her today as she got her plane prepped for

take off at the san carlos airport. wells says she always keeps her eyes out for anything unusual when she flies. >> if you see anything suspicious at the airport, go up and talk to them. where are you flying, where are you going. so if you did hear something suspicious, maybe that might be something you bring out. >> reporter: al-qaida operatives are still trying to get flight training so they can fly these small cessnas. wells is certified flight instructor believes there are a good number of safeguards in place to keep terrorists out of flight schools. >> the process for that is so intense. just going to the tsa background checks, they get fingerprinted. you have to do a bunch of paper work around that. >> reporter: still according to this latest law enforcement bulletin, al-qaida operatives believe security is lax.

petitions asking the recreation and parks department to find another location for the popular kiosks in golden gate park. in news of the world tonight, crews are searching for the bodies of victims of a military plane crash near chile. 21 people were on board the plane friday when it crashed while trying to land in stormy weather on chile's remote juan fernandez islands. four bodies were recovered yesterday. mass was held today in memory of all the victims outside of chilean network t.e.n. tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets of yemen's capital city promising violence against government forces. activists say security forces opened fire at the demonstration. demonstrators are calling for yemen's president to resign. the president is in saudi

arabia recovering from wounds after an assassination attempt back in june. the russian built facility in iran is connected to the national power grid last night for a test run. iran said the testing is still in its preliminary state. the power plant has the capacity of 10,000 mega watts of power. burning man sold out crowd could mean trouble for the festival's organizers. close to 54,000 people were in the northern nevada desert for the event. that's about 4,000 more than the number allowed by federal land managers. the bureau of land management believes organizers sold more than 50,000 tickets assuming not everyone would show. officials now say they hope to discuss the issue with organizers after the dust clears from the week long event tomorrow.

the prelude to remembering 9/11. young muslims who grew up in after 9/11 say it's something you will never forget. >> it's a hectic moment but also something that really sticks in your mind because, you know, they just fell within a few minutes of each other. >> reporter: ahmed was 5 years old. arehazi was seven on that day, both remember seeing the horrific images on the television. arehazi remembers the words. >> he told me not to go outside, not to talk to anyone. lock to doors so i was really scared. >> reporter: the teenagers who work as interns at the center of islamic relations say they didn't feel the full impact of 9/11 until they were in school. >> i just remember my group of friends started asking me questions like, wait aren't you muslim. aren't you one of them. and i would be no, no it's not
