it has a difficult year for the people of san bruno, today reflecting on what happened september 9th, 2010. good afternoon, i i am tori campbell, san bruno is remembering the pipeline explosion one year ago, claudine wong joins us where the report. >> reporter: one year later there is still a gaining gaping hole here. the memory came flooding back. >> the horror of it if you imagine hell, like going to a movie and imagining hell. i could like 7 or 8 stories high of flame and smoke. >> reporter: she told us she was ready. >> i am trying to pull the good

memories, the hope of going guard. her store is not unlike others we heard in the neighborhoods but people still grieve. they place flowers and empty lot that one year ago today were people's homes today they remember them all killed in the blaze. they remember the injured and those who ran for their lives. his wife still has nightmares. >> she will wake up and just hollar, i don't know what to do, what can you say? i just ask her, you know, you all right. she says no, it is okay, it is okay. >> while there are signs of rebuilding, amidst it all today is a reminder that healing takes time and everyone has their own path. maria barr this morning still looks for hers. >> my home has always been my

castle but i am still -- the realization of what has happened is hitting me again and i think maybe i will move. >> tonight's public ceremony will be at skyline college at 6:00, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> changes are coming in the wake of this explosion, last week the ntsb blamed pg&e in a report about the explosion, congress is still taking a closer look at its law and legislation is pending that would require automatic or remote control shut off valves, the mother of jessica morales is now heading up a non-profit group called the gas pipe safety foundation, which is pushing for strict controls over high pressured gas lines that return underneath neighborhoods. a terror alert is prompting additional security measures in new york city and washington, d.c. as we near the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

members of the obama administration believe three people are involved in the threat, including one u.s. citizen. they believe it may involve a car or truck bomb and an attack on bridges or tunnels. this morning new york mayor michael bloomberg road the subway, saying people should be vigilant but go on with their lives. >> bottom line, go back to work and leave it to the professionals because you don't want al qaeda or any other organization, i don't know if this is al qaeda or some other terrorist organization, you don't want them to take away the freedoms without firing a shot. >> he says there will be an increased police presence along with security measures you might not notice, among them bomb sweeps at parking garages and more towing of illegally parked cars. because of this many organizationers of 9/11 ceremonies are having to make adjustments. this sunday will be marked with several events.

later in the newscast we will have a report from new york city for the memorial service at ground service. here bart is tightening security ahead of the 9/11 anniversary, commuters will see a bigger police presence, it is happening even though there is no specific threat targeting the bay area. bart officials confirm to ktvu channel 2 news this morning that vandalism at the glen park bart station in san francisco late last night was tied to protests downtown earlier in the evening. bart officials say as many as a dozen people wearing hoodies and carrying hammers swarmed into the station just before 11:00 p.m., they smashed clipper card readers and machines workers examined them. the vandalism surprised some riders. >> this is one of the out of the way bart stations that you would not think that you are going to do something going on and it is like now they are starting in glen park so what is next, just walk to work or

bike to work maybe? >> the vandals also spray painted what appeared to be the name oscar grant on a wall and the name charles hill on a floor. grant is the man bart police shot, hill is the homeless man officers shot this summer. they say he threatend passengers with knives. the vandalism followed protests over those shootings. police in circled them, closed the station and arrested between 20 and 30 protesters. although a massive power outage is over in southern california, utility officials are still asking people there to conserve energy. service was restored to san diego customers early this morning after 12 hours without electricity in sweltering heat. but officials say the system is still fragile and people should

avoid using major appliances if possible including air- conditioning, authorities are trying to figure out why a simple mistake by an employee in arizona triggered such a huge outage. some flights are still affected due to that slow recoffee from the power outage. gregg debro joins us to less us what the situation situation is like now. >> they have cancelled flights but very little tush turbulence since then. a line formed there.

many had flights cancelled but are rebooking today. many are disappointed. >> i found out but i had to turn around and go back but i was lucky i was able to re- schedule and get on the early morning. >> 50 dollars to get home last night, and 50 to get here this morning. >> so an extra 100 dollars. >> out of my vacation money, yeah, but i am going, i am going. i am determined we are going to get there. >> they said today they are investigating the cause of the massive power outage. it started at an electric repair station in arizona, that caused more than a million people in arizona, california, and baja, california, mexico to lose power, but airports don't depend on electronic grids many have back up systems supported by gas generators but there are functions that are not supported by them.

anniversary of september 11 people are going to believe it is over. >> reporter: you are looking at the pools, they are part of the memorial which was opened for the first time on monday, september 12th. in new york, trisha woo. >> they will honor them with a tribute at coit tower. it will be lit in red, white and blue and remain that way through the weekend. they are also marking the 9/11 anniversary weekend. the cabs are decorated with american flags. a ktvu flavor discovered this morning the flags are already in place on some of the vehicles, from 5:00 a.m. to the 10:00 news we have special coverage, coverage includes live reports and a special program begins at 6:00 p.m. called 9/11, a decade of change. hundreds of people have

started a long walk today to help fight breast cancer. the susan g. komen three day walk kicked off in daily city. everyone must raise at least $2300 for breast cancer research in order to participate. a spokesperson says there is a lot of progress but still more to be done. >> the fight still continues for us to find the cure because for survivers like myself i don't want my two teenaged daughters to ever even know what breast cancer is. >> the walk will cover 60 miles through san francisco and the east and north bays, overnight they camp out in designated campsited with pink tents. they put out a brush fire that broke out just after midnight. they believe it may have started because someone was shooting off flares in the

area. firefighters had the fire out in less than an hour. in parts of northern carl foreign aand the sierra are under a red flag fire warning through tomorrow, that includes areas in lake, solano and san joaquin counties low humidity and gusty winds make for dangerous conditions. in gilroy firefighters spent yesterday putting out a 5 acre blaze that destroyed several vehicles and buildings. cal fire says lightning storms are headed to the bay area that could spark fires in the east bay hills. >> good afternoon, to you, happy friday. dealing with haze out there. we had more fog out there this morning and finally slowly it is burning off. we are adding some areas to that high fire danger in time for the weekend. tory mentioned it just a moment ago. now areas of the north bay mountains above 1500 feet and areas along the diablo range as well as the east bay hills will

see a fire weather watch and red flag warning through tomorrow, santa clara as well as monterrey are expected to be added a shade of yellow for tomorrow. for today see how widespread it is over california, the sierra, so lana county, vacaville and to the east and portions of lake sonoma as well as napa and the north bay hills so please take it easy out there. through tomorrow the thunderstorms rolling through, not going to bring us a lot of rain. not worried about that, it is the dry lightning that is a big concern for fire danger, the winds coming from the east northwest, san francisco at 6 miles per hour, the rest of us dealing with a west northwesterly wind anywhere from 5 to 10 miles per hour, a high pressure is bringing that northerly flow to the north bay area for today, over the weekend a low pressure system sits off the coastline in southern california that brings us that monsoonal moisture and the possibility of those turns.

for today afternoon highs will be warmer than yesterday then cool it down into the weekend, take a look what you can expect mostly sunny for today and 85 sonoma, low 80s petaluma, widespread 70s it looks like in areas right around oakland as well as san leandro, 68 degrees alameda and areas inland will warm up to the low mid-90s for the afternoon, meanwhile the santa clara valley 80s, low 90s out there, 80 san jose, 90 degrees morgan hill, along the peninsula nice day, redwood city 74 as well as san mateo, san francisco 64 in the afternoon. your weekend forecast here notice the drop off, especially noticeable for the inland areas, anywhere from 4 to six degrees expected for tomorrow and another 4 to six degrees on sunday. on monday into tuesday we hold with the pattern, mid-80s along the coastline, widespread low and mid-60s, so you know for most of us we are not going to notice those thunderstorms but the higher elevations and just dismipg to keep an eye on.

a live look at the big board on wall street, the numbers started the day down because there was not a lot of positive feeling about president obama's job plan and the markets took a dip after some concern about the european debt crisis. they are all down. there are concerns over traffic near apple's proposed new headquarters in cupertino, dozens attended the first hear hearing for the planned apple campus 2, looks like a spaceship and will be built there, some worry it will bring too many cars slowing traffic on their neighborhoods and interstate 280. a vote on the project will come
