solyndra goes before congress today. why two top company executives will not speak at the congressional hearing. ktvu channel 2 morning news continues. good morning. thank you for joining us it's wednesday, september 14th i'm pam cook. >> and i'm dave clark. let's check weather and traffic. here is steve. >> thank you very much. cooler today for inland areas which were hot yesterday. had 90s. that will not be the case today. there will be a lot of 70s and 80s. a sea breeze is really cranked up. there is a much bigger fog bank and it's sold out on the coast. 50s and 60s closer to the beaches. 70s and 80s inland. here is sal. steve, right now traffic is moving along pretty well if you are driving on highway 4 getting up to the willow pass grade with a little bit of slow traffic no major problems on 680 southbound. also the morning commute will

be busy in marin county. southbound 101 already slow in some spots. 6:01 let's go back to the desk. a woman that wants to be on the fairfield school board has admitted to a troubling past. kraig debro is in fairfield now to talk about her arrest in 1998 for child abduction. >> reporter: i've been trying to call alvina sheeley most of the morning. so far no luck. i did reach perry polk he is a fairfield school board member. this woman wants to run for the four vacant seats here. her headline says retired teacher. sheeley spent more than a year in a psychiatric hospital to get better and pay for what she did. sheeley told them she kidnapped four girls from a bus stop in illinois in 1998. one of the girls mothers had refused to give sheeley custody of her daughter.

sheeley is unknown to the community. she has been a teacher in solano county and ran for the city council in fairfield. that was a year before she admitted to kidnapping the girls. i will talk topery polk. reporting live in fairfield kraig debro. a deadline is looming for more than 700 students in gilroy. tara moriarty has more ton what they need to prove to school officials or face being removed from the classroom. tara. >> reporter: our student -- are students getting the whopping cough vaccine or do not have the documentation to prove it? that will be the questions asked here. in nine days some students could be sent home if they can't show they received the vaccine. of the 4300 students in the gilroy unified school district. 700 fall into that category at least. a state law passed this summer

seventh through 12 graders to get the shot. it can be deadly especially in babies that are too young to get their shots. it is important to get vaccinated. just to give you an idea of the statewide statistics. but last year there were more than 9,000 cases. almost 500 of them right here in santa clara county. there were almost 805 hospitalizations and ten deaths in 2010. the last time we saw those number was back in 1947. chirp need -- children need to receive five doses of the vaccine by kindergarten and a booster by age 12. live in gilroy i'm tara moriarty. police are investigating a shooting near interstate 5:80

-- at 580 in richmond. police got a call at 5:45 this morning. when police arrived they found a wounded man. he was taken to john brewer medical center. authorities would not say how many shots were fired. out in the street police markers covered an entire block. the u.s. military and police in nevada want to know how a 15-year-old boy got his hands on a rocket propelled grenade launcher. they pulled the teenager over for blaring music from their car. they shut down a very busy boulevard and evacuated nearby buildings and this library. and than they called which they found out was an rpg. >> it's unknown to locate a rocket device in the back of a vehicle. >> that is scary.

hearings. tom has already have vealed that bp made critical mistakes on the deep water horizon oil well. never told the government or partners about the errors. they stopped short of canceling the companies contract. operations at the plant were partially shut down last october following a chemical release. however, the only water is still allowed to transport waste to another facility. residence have been planning for a long time the plant is making them sick. they want it nucleusessed entirely. richmond ski county said they are not happy with the issue. fogging is scheduled for tonight in south san jose. mosquitoes tested positive. weather permitting the crews plan to spray in the area in the intersection of highways 85 and 87. one to three percent of mosquitoes in the area reportedly have that virus. if you are bitten by an

infected mosquito you can experience flu like symptoms. in severe cases it can lead to neurological denial or partially death. right now it's 6:07 want to go back to sal to keep an eye on the traffic. >> right now i'm looking at places that will be busy. you can see traffic will be busy and a lot busier than it was 20 minutes ago. if you are drive oning on the commute it looks good. there is a little bit of a backup here. the morning drive is going to be doing pretty well if you are driving on hayward cities. livermore valley from livermore totaras toe what i had in them.

6:08 let's go to steve. oh i do want to mention one thing i almost forgot. that would be we do have something new here just reported. this is 580 eastbound or eastbound 80 near the 580 a car fire. and the car is also facing the wrong way. this is just coming in. we are getting some sketchy details. we will fire up our east shore camera and see if we can see it up there. i think i do see a little something up there. thank you, sal. we do have a cooler pattern today. fog bank has increased. it was there yesterday but it's shallow. today it's flying over the coastal hills. cooler. sunny breezy to windy for some out toward the delta. cooling trend continues tomorrow and probably all the way into friday. the weekend will be a little warmer but i think more so on sunday. and into monday. although and i'm not surprised one bit. the forecast models have backed off on the warming for early

next week. bigger fog bank out there. windy at times. the fog will stay by the coast. there will be a few pockets of sun. it won't be very warm. cooling trend started a little bit yesterday but it will be a lot more so today. and that will car us into thuds and -- it's also kicked that low that has been sitting off santa barbara for the last four or five days. we only had that one last friday event that didn't make it here. boy did they ever. big thunderstorms. most will calm down as the low moves east into the four corners. 50s to very low 60s. 58 fairfield. 58 livermore. 56 santa rosa. 57 redwood city. san jose overcast and 60. northwest three at san jose. they are cloudy. west at sfo. north, northwest oakland. this is all stronger than

yesterday and all a sign we will cool down today. the low finally getting out of the picture. as it does it will take its thunderstorms with it. maybe a few up in the sierra today. that system right there that is the one that will move in and that will give us a cooling trend. low clouds and fog. peeling back over to the coast. it will be sunny inland and cooler. a big drop about ten degrees. 50s and 60s coast and bay. 60s and 70s you move a little inland. 70s an lower 80 -- and lower 80s for many today. cooler all the way into friday. with your weekend in view we have a slightly warmer pattern on saturday. i think more so on sunday. inland temps will warm up. new developments in the efforts to get the two uc berkeley grads free from iran. why there is doubt about earlier reports about they might get out this week. >> i couldn't believe it. >> the mistake one family found after waiting ten years to view the world trade center

for the name of her brother jeffrey. he was killed on september 11th when the world trade center collapsed. his remains have never been found. miss heart says her name on the memorial is all she has left of her brother. when she finally found it, she found a mistake. >> the memorial it was jeffery. >> the memorial organization has apologized. they are trying to correct it. a congressional hearing gets under way in 15 minutes into the financial collapse of fremont based solyndra. as alison burns reports republicans are now asking why the obama administration was pushing loans to the troubled company. allison. >> reporter: that is right. some republicans are already calling it solar gate. the house investigation committee is this morning examining the financial

collapse of solyndra and why obama was trying to keep the company afloat. we have learned two solyndra executives will not testify this morning. they need to stay in california to deal with a potential buyer of the company's assets. congressional republicans have been highly critical of the obama administration for playing a big role in promoting the company and giving a half a billion dollars in loan guarantees despite warning signs the company was in trouble. >> many of us think he was trying to get the money quickly out the door. perhaps for political reasons. >> reporter: now president obama visited the company last year touting its green energy jobs helped by his stimulus plan and white house e-mails showed the obama administers tried to rush loans to the company. but democrats are fighting banback this morning they 51 it was the bush -- they say it was the bush administration and

that was an i roneos report. can see how traffic was coming through. and also this mornings commute will be nice at the toll plaza. they turned meteorologisting lights -- metering lights on. and this mornings drive on the peninsula looks pretty good. southbound 101 no major problem there is. if you are driving on the san mateo or dumbarton bridge it looks good. and livermore westbound 580 looks good. 680 from danville that is in fine shape. let's go to steve. thank you very much. on twitter it's a flight advisor. it just reported that sfo has 60 minute delays. a friend e-mailed me and said it's a mess over there. her flight was also delayed. if you are heading to sfo you may want to call your carrier.

a lot of the thunderstorm activity will diminish. there could be some up in the tahoe truck key area. most of it is heading east. 50s on the temps. the sea breeze brees is really cranked up. it's up to 23-25 miles an hour in travis. also the west wind or north, northwest for many locations that had hardly anything yesterday. a lot more in the way of low clouds. fog on the go. it will there -- there will be sun but it will be cooler today. 50s, 60s, 70s and upper 70s and low to mid 80s. it will be warmer up toward ukiah and clear lake. with your weekend always in view it looks like a warmer pattern. especially on sunday. 6:19 is the time right now. a new report shows wang of america will foreclose on more

good morning, traffic is moving along pretty well at the bay bridge. there is a little bit of a backup. maybe about a 5-7 minute wait before you make it on to the span. all right sal time now 6:24. a man that that dressed up add gumbee to rob a store in san diego surrounderred. they told the clerk the store was being robbed. the clerk thought it was a joke. the suspects eventually left with nothing. well the two 19-year-old men turned themselves in yesterday. still not clear what charges they will face. search continues this morning in contra costa county for the last remaining teenager that walked away from a youth rehabilitation facility. the sheriffs department says two 14-year-olds and two 15- year-olds sneaked out of the facility in byron monday night. three of the boys were arrested at a walmart in antioch

yesterday. however, 15-year-old spencer thomas brown remains on the loose. it is a story you will only see here on channel 2. one man is giving back to the nine-year- old girl who saved his life. mark spent five years on the kidney transplant list before a phone call in july informing him that one had become available. it came from a little girl taken off life support after being injured in a car crash in belvieu, washington. now the donors name was kept confidential until mark read an article about rachel and realized she was his donor. >> knowing that a young child passed away and the family made available this organ for me is really just almost too much emotionally. >> now before she died rachel had been raising money to provide children in africa with clean water. mark donated to her website and posted a thank you note to the

family promising to continue her cause. since his note, the website has raised more than $1 million. the grape harvest in sonoma county starting off slow. they respect only 2% of the counties crop has been harvested. the summertime cooler weather has delayed ripening to growers had to push back the timeline for picking grapes. some are already saying the quality of this years harvest will be good because of the mild season. the diving season may be cut short. this after the mysterious death of abalone and other sea creatures. toxic red tide may be to blame. they will get a report from scientists tomorrow to see how they will respond. cutting the abalone season short would hurt businesses. 6:27. one name on the fairfield school board ballot is causing

analysts expected maybe a little disappointing. we'll see how the markets react. we will smile for you any way and say good morning, to you. thank you for joining us here. wednesday, september 14th i'm dave clark. >> i'm pam cook. time now 6:30. >> in the news for you this morning a woman that was once arrested for child abduction is now running for a seat on the fairfield school board. kraig debro is at the district head quarters now. you just talked to school board member; right? >> reporter: i did. someone that says he has known al vie that sheeley for several years. despite that fact he will not be endorsing her candidacy. it was child abductions. this woman abducted four children back in illinois back in late 1990s. she went back there to visit family. she had a dispute with a mother and one of the kids. she ended uptaking four kids. one of the kids in that group

is telling a person at a rent a car place what was going on. the children were rescued. this woman spent a year in a mental institution. she was relouised on probation -- she was released on probation. she has been in this community for a number of years. at the same time there is an expectation who are on school boards will actually have the children's best interest at heart and while she may have that at heart, perry says, there is a perception because of what she did involves children that might not be the case. when i talked to perry a few minutes ago he explain z his position. caller: we don't deal directly with children. we don't necessarily engage ourselves in school work at all. we are policymakers. but at the same time, the public sees us as representatives of schools. i think that is where the real

crooks comes. >> reporter: al vie that lives here in fairfield. some have expressed concern about this. he looked into it himself despite the fact he had done this, there is nothing in the law that says she can't run because she is not actually a convicted felon. she made a plea deal. props that is why she is able to run. a san jose man that created an hour long bomb scare in his neighborhood is in jail. mark sedlock is a convicted felon that is not allowed to possess weapons or ammunition. yesterday afternoon they found eight explosive devices in his north sixth street home. ten neighboring homes had to be evacuated. police dug a hole in sedlock's

front yard where they detonated the explosives. his neighbors were alowed back into their homes at 11:00 last night. but police are still looking into why sedlock had so many explosives and weapons. time now 6:33. six people still evacuated from a palo alto apartment complex after a bucket containing chlorine tablets exploded. residence at the midtown apartments heard a loud boom about 7:20 last night. it happened in a room that contains the buildings pool pump. firefighters say it was from a desolving chlorine capsule. no one was hurt. more controversy this morning over protests at bart. this time it's less about the protests themselves and more about the public relations campaign that bart launched in response to those protests. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong is talking with riders this morning in san francisco about what they think about the tactics that bart

supposedly used. claudine. >> you know, pam, we have been talking to riders all morning. the first thing they say when they see us oh no is there another protest today? not that we know of. this morning as you said the controversy is more about the public relations and the spin and what bart has allegedly done in the wake of recent protests. bart apparently tried to make sure that the media and the public thought they had the support of riders. according to the bay citizen in order to make that happen they went out and recruited so- called loyal riders. gave them a script to read. and even paid for transportation to and from. some are calling it media manipulation. riders we talked to today said giving anyone is a script isn't a good idea. >> yeah you shouldn't manipulate people. >> reporter: would you have gone to a press conference and said how you feel? >> if they gave me a script no. >> i wouldn't need anybody to tell me on barts behalf. as often as i ride bart, they

don't need to tell me. i would say hey i'm tired of the protest. >> reporter: even though he said he felt that way when i asked him if he would go to the press conference he said no. only one man took bart up on its offer to go to the press conference and speak on barts behalf. we have been putting in multiple calls to bart this morning. we have yet to hear back from them. live in san francisco claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:35. happening right now in washington a congressional hearing looking into the bankruptcy filing of fremont base solyndra. this is the congressional hearing room right now as the camera pans around. lawmakers want to know about the $500 million federal stimulus loan that was given to solyndra. there are reports the obama administration was warned about solyndra's financial instability but authorized that loan any way. president obama visited the company last year.

he touted it as an example overgrain greene technology -- example as green technology as a company doing well helped by stimulus money. the world's largest retailer will announce today a campaign to help women. walmart plans to spend $20 billion over the next five years on products and services from businesses owned by women. coming up in 15 minutes some of the other waysball more hopes to reach out to women around the world. today president obama takes his jobs bill tour to north carolina. yesterday the president pitched the idea to voters in columbus, ohio. he's urging voters to pressure congress to pass the plan and send it to his desk. it includes tax cuts and tax credits designed to encourage businesses to hire people. the president is proposing tax hikes to pay for the plan. that is not sitting well with congressional republicans. time now 6:37. police in vallejo on alert

watching for metal thieves that have struck three times in one week. the latest incident happened early sunday morning at the intersection of redwood and columbus parkway. all eight electrical boxes were stripped of their signal wiring. in the past six months metal thieves have stolen street light wiring in 40 areas of the city. price of copper is to blame. some parents and teachers at clayton valley high school look disappointed this morning after the mount diablo school board only gave partial approval to a charter position. it happened just before 10:00 last night. the board approved the charter petition but with conditions. district analysts say there are problems with accountability and the academic plan. however, many parents and teachers disagree. >> it was a sound petition. i'm very disappointed. i had higher hopes for the board. and i think that the approving with conditions is a stalling

tactic. >> supporters now have to address a list of concerns when they submit a new plan. they will present that to the school board in early february and the board will take another vote. and the time is 6:38. back over to sal to check in on traffic. sal. >> we want to go and take a look at the toll plaza for you. westbound bay bridge you can see that traffic is moving along pretty quickly. it's not taking you that long. i would say a ten minute wait maybe a little less than that before you make it past the metering lights and getting into san francisco. it's not that bad of a day just yet. moving along and taking a live look at 237 some stop and go traffic here in milpitas as you drive across 880. i want to take a look at the livermore valley. 580 to 238 it looks good. livermore traffic looks good getting to that point. across the bay 101 and 280 looking good heading south. and then of course we almost forgot 880 how could we forget

significant cooling trend here. significant little that didn't make sense. wednesday, thursday into friday. inland temps will come down 5- 10. the thunderstorms that have been erupting all sorts of thunderstorm activity down in southern california is moving east because there is a system come into the pacific northwest. that helps like come on get her going. and so that moves out. we don't have to worry about that threat probably after today. the sierra will get a few but nothing like the last couple of days. 250s and toy -- 50s and 60s. the wind has really picked up. west, southwest at vacaville. if vacaville gets a sea breeze, you know it will be a cooler pattern. even livermore, oakland, napa out of the west or northwest and southwest. that's the direction the wind is coming from. just huge thunderstorms. boy did they get close and fall 5:part at sun -- fall apart at sunset. the source of that is moving out. here comes the next piece of

energy move into the pacific northwest. we're on the southern edge of it. that lifts the fog. a lot more in the way of low clouds. it will be cooler and breezy for some. not too bad. it will be comfortable for many. it will be foggy and cool on the coast. 50s and 70s and low to mid 80s inland. that wind should be cranking up as we get more of a definite sea breeze hear. 88 clear lake and ukiah. walnut creek 79. hayward at 70. san leandro 68. 75 santa clara and fremont. and 70s mainly low on the peninsula including menlo park, palo alto. 59-58 pacifica. and a lot of low to mid 60s in the city. cooling trend through friday and with your weekend always in view we do have a little warmer saturday. i think a little bit more so

let's move along and take a look at the westbound bay bridge. there is a 15 minute delay at the toll plaza. it looks like all of a sudden the traffic has slowed way down. earlier when i saw it it was moving quicker than this. now it's not. we'll get to the bottom of it. there is a disabled vehicle on the bridge here. that is right. my goodness. and northbound 17 traffic some slowing here getting up to los gatos. 101 in san jose looks good. if you are driving on the peninsula you are still okay. 6:49 let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you very much. yes, on twitter it's flight advisor. sfo 60 minute delays. and that means a cooler pattern today. everybody is reporting a westerly breeze. so cooler there will be a lot

more fog. it will be a chilly day by the coast today. inland it will be nice but not as warm as yesterday. sunny and breezy. the cooling trend continues not only into thursday but also friday. we'll start to rebound a little bit as we head toward the weekend. probably more so on sunday. and then forecast models which they went like big guy high pressure on monday. well they backed off. i'm not surprised. it will still by warmer but not much warmer. the low responsible for all the thunderstorm activity is finally moving. getting bumped along by that system moving to the north. 50s on the temps. most locations say cloudy. if they are not cloudy they have a little sea breeze. there goes our low. the one right there in the far corner. that is a big guy. it will cause all sorts of issues. our system that will cool us down is right there and it's moving. as it does it will pick up the sea breeze and also increase the fog. we have seen both of those

welcome back to the morning news. a little bit of a gain there this morning as we look live from the new york stock exchange. dow jones up about 10 or 11 points to 11,11. a nevada woman will not face charges after her husband's remains were found buried in her backyard.
