perception. we're at the fairfield suisun unified school district right now, where people are just starting to arrive. one school board member says he will not be supporting his dinscy. in 1998 -- supporting this candidacy. in 1998. >> the woman was held responsible for those abductions and set spent time in a -- spent time in a psychiatric hospital. she spent a lot of her time and supported the community. still, she states it's gonna be up to the people to decide whether or not she's fit for the school board. >> i think the citizens will need to consider whether the problem she's encountered caused her to put be put in a psyche ack trick hospital is --

b.a.r.t. allegedly did that some say went too far. claudine? >> reporter: well, how far is too far when it comes to pr, dave? there's a little of -- there is a lot of controversy. these demonstrations held here and -- and at the civic center station. i want to show you video of the recent protests. one of many. there were many press conferences. in advance of one of those protests. b.a.r.t. tried to include loyal riders to come speak on their behalf. but that's not all. b.a.r.t. provided a script and provided transportation. only one person took them up on the offer. it cost $900 and it's the strategy that's causing some to take notice. >> that's not right. >> reporter: you don't like the idea of the script? >> i don't think they should be

"the l.a. times" reports a producer paid for this. critics say they are worried that the district is blurring the line between promotion and real news. well, the bankruptcy filing of solindra is the focus of a congressional hearing this morning. now, president obama victimmed solindra last year, holding the company as a shining example of a green company helping with stimulus dollars. coming up at 7:15, we'll get a live report from our washington, d.c. newsroom about the questions lawmakers have about the $550 million federal loan given to solyndra. 7:05. police are investigating an overnight shooting. officers received an emergency

call at 12:45 this morning at cutting and south 25th. when police arrived, they found a man shot in the lower part of his body. he was taken to john muir medical center in serious conditions. authorities won't say how many shots were fired but police markers covered an entire block. san leandro authorities are investigating two arson attempts that happened on tuesday on the same street. they say someone threw a bottle stuck with a rag and gasoline through the front window of a home on west laurel -- on west laurel court at 3:30 a.m. it did not catch fire. but another one did catch fire. damage was limited to the living room. the people in the homes are not associated with each other. a ma -- marin county man who normally takes the mic at

bridge. they just turned off the sign. westbound bay bridge that stall is clear but there there is a big backup at the toll plaza. it's take a look at 880 northbound and southbound here in -- near 66th avenue. the traffic is moving well in both directions. but it is getting busier by the minute i want to go to the santa cruz mountains, highway 17, still looks okay -- still looks okay. but northbound 17 looks like there a -- i'm sorry, southbound 17 at 85 watch for a crash on the shoulder and watch for some slow traffic in this area. also if you are driving on 85 northbound to mountain view, you will see some slowing there. on the peninsula, traffic looks good if you are going to sfo, remember there are flight delays reported at the airport. check with your carrier. let's go to steve. thank you. yesterday, interesting temps. it warmed up to 90 but by the coast we kept in the 60s and 70s. today the fog has no problem lifting. i talked to a friend of mine

near cordelia and he said the fog is roaring un-- roaring up the 80 gap. temperatures today will come down a good 10 degrees for inland areas. so cooler. there is a lot more -- a lot more fog. it looks to be sold out on the coast. sunny and breezy. also that nothing producing some flight delays. cooling and we'll rebound on the weekend. that bigger fog bank. a definite sea breeze out through the delta. that's going to usher in a cool trend. kick the other low which has been off southern california producing thunderstorms, finally inland. it's now in towards southern nevada. but not before they -- i mean, just erupting up in the sierra nevada. that was yesterday and then they fall apart. we had the one taste of it friday night. that was it. it was so close. southern california is -- southern california is pushing

administration. alison, what's the latest? what's happening at that hearing? >> reporter: dave, good morning. democrats are calling this a partisan fishing expedition. but republicans say they want to know if the obama administration put politics ahead of tax payer interests in helping solyndra. let's get to a live look at the hearing room now. top obama administration and energy officials are in the hot seat facing questions about whether they rushed $500 billion in loans to solyndra despite warning signs the company was in trouble. >> the administration officials held out the company as a shining example of how the stimulus was creating jobs and invigorating the economy. just after two years of receiving this $500 billion loan guarantee, solyndra has closed its door, laid off over 1,000 employees and filed for bankruptcy. >> reporter: now, two solyndra executives were expected to be

spill in the gulf of mexico. after a year of investigative hearings, the report blames poor management, key missteps and a faulty cement job by bp and others for the worst offshore spill in u.s. history and the deaths of 11 rig workers. richmond's city county criticized the operator of its water treatment plant but stopped short of canceling the company's contract. operations at the plant were partially shut down last october after a chemical release. the water is still allowed to transport waste to another facility. residents have long complained the plant is making them sick and want it shut down entirely. last night richmond city council said they are pleased with veiolia water and will

from. police in stockton -- stockton arrested two young men. police say two students were robbed of their backpacks just a couple of blocks from lincoln high school. and two men in the car attacked a third victim. the suspects were 17 and 20 years old. they were not students. they are being accused of robbery and attempted kidnapping. 7:19. the next time you drive to tahoe, you may notice a few new billboards along highway 50. a handful of bill words -- billboards are in place right now, advertising good deals on food, air conditioning and cars and with plans for another three billboards. yesterday, the el dorado county board of supervisors voted that down saying they want to rewrite their sign ordinance first. >> the county needs to do an update on their sign ordinance to include the new technology on l.e.d. signs. >> members of the cameron park

design review committee said the effort to cut back on the billboards is not dead. it's just delayed. they hope to have the sign ordinance updated within the next year. the grape harvest in sonoma county is getting off to a slow start. "the press democrat" reports only 2% of the county's crop has been harvested. growers have had to delay the time line to pick the grapes. some of the quality of the crop will be good because of the delay. the makers of the e.z.-bake oven are dumping the 100-watt incandescent bulb. a redesigned heating element will be more energy-efficient. the toy has been cooking up streets for half -- treats for

it will be sunny but cooler for inland temps, which really warmed up yesterday. had a lot of 80s and low 90s. that will not be the case. thunderstorm activity has ended. the system responsible for that as moved into nevada and it's raining inle las vegas, 65 -- in las vegas, 65 degrees. the follow is -- fog is getting picked up by a system in the pacific northwest. this system looks pretty good but the end result is a pooler pattern into friday. a lot more in the way of low clouds, fog, sunny. it will be mild to warm for some. over by the coast, it will be a cool, foggy day for many. 50, 60s and 70s. temperatures inland out of the 90s and into the upper 70s and low and mid-80s. it looks like a cooling trend will continue into friday and with your weekend always in view, a little warm up on -- warmup on saturday. tori and dave?

students in gilroy have nine days to prove they've received the whooping cough vaccination or face getting kicked out of class. tara moriarty has an update on the number of students whose vaccination is still in question. tara? >> reporter: well, we just spoke to the principal here at south valley middle school and she tell us out of last week, 60 out of the 700 students who attend school here still had not proved they have received the vaccine. if that's the case still in nine day, students will be rounded up in this classroom along with staff and sent home. now, of the gilroy district, more than 700 have not turned in their proof of vaccination. that does not sit well with school health officials or many parents. >> they should get their

the world. the health organization plans to find, diagnose and treat cases of the disease and carefully follow up with cases for months and years. it's spread by coughing and germs in the air. it's been killing almost 2 million people a year. 7:33. vallejo police are on alert after metal thieves target electrical boxes three times in just one week. this is not a new problem in fact, in the last six months, metal testify -- metal thieves have stolen street lighting in 40 areas. police say the high price of copper is to blame. the military police in novato are looking into how a 15-year-old obtained a rocket- propelled grenade launcher. officers pulled the teen over

the board approved this but with conditions. the district says there are problems with the academic plan. many parents and teachers disagree. i do think that the district certainly has its own agenda and they were looking for fault fault into what was a very, very sound petition. supporters have to address a list of concerns when they submit a new plan, they will submit it to the school board in early february. the board will take another vote. this morning, about six people are in temporary housing following an explosion at a palo alto apartment complex. residents at midtown apartments heard a boom about 7:20 last night. they say it happened in a room that contains the building's pool pump. firefighters confirm the explosion came from a bucket that had dissolving chlorine tablets. luckily no one was hurt. but some of the residents reported mild throat irritation from the gas. it's 7:36.

a san jose man who created an hour's long bomb scare? his neighborhood is still in jail. police say 63-year-old mark sedlock is a convicted felon who is not allowed to possess weapons or ammunition. however, police say they found eight explosive devices and multiple guns inside his north 6th street home. this is video of the home. you can see the hole dug in the ground to get all of the explosives. our cameras caught one yesterday. ten neighboring homes had to be convicted -- evacuated. they were let back into their homes last night. now this video shows dave manzak of the contra costa county fire protection district

pulling janet hogan from those rushing waters back in april. he was with her husband and son. you remember the story, their car crashed into the creek. both of the men died. well, today, manzak will receive the medal of valor. it's 7:37. in a story you will only see here on channel 2, a bay area man is continuing the mission of a 9-year-old girl whose death gave him another chance of life. mark received years on the kidney transplant list until he got a call in july. it came from a young girl taken off life support after being injured in a car crash. the donor's name was kept confidence until mark read an article about rachel beckwithand realized she was -- beckwithand realized she was

some. there's a lot of fog to go around. i just heard from la fayette, they have gray skies and fog. tom blossom hill also said heavy fog. bigger fog bank, the wind is out of the west or out of the southwest and that means temperatures will start to come down on an area of low pressure moving into the pacific northwest. we're not expecting any rain off anything but it's really enhanced that fog bank. big time thunderstorms got close, got close and then they come off the sierra made it into the sacramento valley and lose all support and collapse. that was not the case in southern california, riverside county really got hit hard. the low responsible for it which was off santa barbara and l.a. has moved into arizona. it's raining in las vegas. it's getting kicked along by a system -- i will show you in a second. 50s and 60s. almost everybody except concord

and fairfield says cloudy to mostly cloudy. that's in the way of low clouds and fog. everybody is getting some -- some component of a west breeze. i think fairfield was 8, 9 miles an hour. today it's up to 20, 23. that's a big difference. they look good and they look good and they come in the valley and they lost everything. there could still be a few up towards tahoe and truckee, mammoth. i think most of it will stay now into southern nevada and utah. that system moves into the pacific northwest. that lifts the clouds. low clouds, cooler, -- cooler, breezy. it will still be nice. not the 90s but the fog along the coast is not going anywhere. 60s, 70s and 70s and 80s. windy for some but then temperatures will continue their downward trend which won't be until probably

a sudden flurry of selling pressure has undercut stocks this morning. earlier the focus was on efforts to deal with the european debt cries in greece specifically. but detail sales are flat in august and auto demand has declined. right now, the dow is down, 64 at 11,041. nasdaq is up 1. the s&p is down 4 1/2. walmart is working hard to appear more friendly towards women. the world's largest retailer will spend $20 billion on products and services from businesses owned by women. the company also plans to teach life skills including financial literacy to nearly 500,000 women worldwide. analysts say it's a smart move

take lunch break. we now have the mugshots of the two men attempting to rob an office depot store on friday night. yesterday, prosecutors charged the two men with several counts of robbery. police say they have surveillance video from the store that shows these two men robbed the store. they say the gun cantrell was fake. some store employees were being held hostage but were eventually released. our time now, 7:50. helicopters and planes have been helping thousands of wildfires. at least 110 square miles of burn since lightning sparked about eight fires on saturday. so far no homes have been damaged but an evacuation is still in place for residents in the -- for residents in the breckenridge area. yesterday, four air tankers and
