i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. we begin with a developing story out of yountville. a fire broke pout this morning at the pop pew -- out this morning at the popular bakery there. claudine wong just arrived on the scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: well, firefighters remain on the scene. the fire is out -- is out. the building you are looking at right now is the bakery. this bakery will not be open for business today. there's a hole in the roof. that's where flames were coming out. there were employees inside. they saw smoke. they didn't know where it was coming from. and the fire station is about a mile down from where we are. so fire trucks arrived out the -- arrived on the scene. not a huge fire, but again, it

did cause a lot of smoke damage. now, the bouchon is a pretty popular bakery out here. it serves local restaurants and it's owned by the individual who owns the french laundry and the bistro. as far as damage, they are estimating now about $100,000. no injuries to report. live in yountville, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, claudine.

7:02. in overnight news, two people at least have died in a fire on a cruise ship on the coast of norway and the crew is busy look for other people. others suffered serious smoke and burn injuries. the crew is trying to make sure all 262 people on board have been evacuated safely. the fire broke out in the engine room. back here at home, a real dog fight brewing in one bay area park. kraig debro is live in berkeley now toty us about aggressive dogs that are making a lot of people nervous. kraig? >> reporter: yeah, dave. you said aggressive dogs. one person said it's not just that, it's the breed of dogs. another person says it's the owner. this is the park on hurst and mlk. you can see the playful dogs out here. usually it's like this, but others say this is a very

problem. if you are looking at a live picture, you see the gentleman. there were ideas to -- ideas to separate the park and keep those dogs who are aggressive and of a particular breed to one side and the other dogs on the other side. some people don't support that idea. i'm still trying to get ahold of the person who thought up the proposal. kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. overnight there was a large grass fire in contra costa county, it started after 8:00. the fire burned 50 acres. no structures were threatened. no one was hurt.

breezy. clearing out and warmer temperatures more so on sunday then we're getting on saturday. there's plenty of -- president bushty of fog to go around. there's breaks out there, and there is a very pronounced westerly breeze or swellly breeze. a cooling trend started and then continues tomorrow. and then we'll see the marine temperatures rebound. but today if you are on the coast, it won't get that sun. chilly, blustery breezy. same for the fog even -- fog. even the inland temps will come down. there is a lat of -- there is a lot of fog out there today. thunderstorm is on the western edge of the low which finally is moving slow. that's a big-guy low. and they had thunderstorms in southern california. big lightning show and a lot of -- and a lot of rain from palm springs to palmdale. things will be coming down.

there's a little bit of sunshine. it's going to be -- even though it's sunny, it will be cooler. 70s inland for many and then if you have the low clouds and fog, it will be in the 50s and 60s. in just a couple of hours from now, president obama will present the medal of honor to a very brave u.s. marine. sergeant dakota meyer will become the first living marine to get that medal since the vietnam war. now, he ran through enemy gunfire to recover the bodies of his fallen comrades during a firefight in afghanistan two years ago. however, this marine from kentucky doesn't call himself a hero. >> anyone who receives the medal of honor and we're still here to talk about it, that's -- that's such a great honor to

busy street. volunteer cleanup crews found the explosives yesterday afternoon on the third street bridge. police immediately shut down the street and called in the bomb squad. one container was red, the other was black and had a two- inch wick coming out of the top. experts say they both contained a white powder that could have caused an plex if set on fire. nobody was hurt. california is seeing a big jump in home foreclosures. there is a new report that came out today shows a lot of default notices are going out here in the bay area. ktvu's tara moriarty is in oakland where one homeowner is reacting to all of this. >> well, the man who lives next door to this house said it was brand-new and it slipped into foreclosure. he says thieves have targeted it, stealing copper and now

it came out that another la nina is forming this year. we had colder than average temperatures. now, la nina usually means colder temperatures in the winter sometime -- inter-- in the winter time. last year, we had record snow, a lot of rain. so we went from la nina back into la nina. the pattern really hasn't changed. but of deposit -- low pressure is on the coast. we've had the cool -- the coolest summer for monterey. oakland was the 10th coolest. i so i mean, parts of the country are hot but here in the red cross it's been a very cool pattern. we're right in it.

tear was disappointing news out this morning, 482,000 people filed for unemployment benefits last week. that's the highest level in three months. what's even more concerning is that the increase came during the week of labor day. jobless claims usually fall during short, holiday, with. the number of claims must fall below 377,000 to -- to indicate that hiring is enough to lower that re-- that -- to lower that rate. more bad news could be ahead for the bank because it could report a third quarter

just hours ago. it will be closed today. ktvu's claudine wong is out there and you found out that the fire may have an impact on some pretty famous restaurants in that area, claudine. >> reporter: that's right, dave. this bakery owned by thomas keller who also owns three restaurants in the area, pretty famous restaurants, french laundry, the bouchon bistro. he was out here and has been out here all morning long since the fire started at 5:30. not a lot of -- lot of major damage but this bakery does supply bread to all of those restaurants. it will be affected because these's no business operating out of this bakery this morning. you can see firefighters on the scene. i did talk to the battalion chief first on the scene and he described the scene for us. >> the interior of the building was fairly clear.

there's only a small amount of flames showing from the exterior. once we started opening ul the holes, the flames increase and we started to get more smoke down into the building it -- to the building itself. >> reporter: they were able to get the fire out quickly. damage is estimated a cash -- is estimated at did 100,000. the five employees got out safely and were able to call 9/11. i talked to the -- 911. >> we're trying -- trying to assess right now. until we're able to assess the damage, i don't have any more information. >> reporter: that's because it's still very early. back out here live in yountville, you can see -- you can tell from the outside of the bakery, not a lot of exterior damage. we're talking smoke damage inside. this started near the major commercial oven. this is a bakery that on rates

police in santa rosa want to know who left two massic containers filled with -- plastic containers filled with explosives on a busy street they were found by volunteer cleanup crews yesterday under the third street bridge. police immediately closed that street and called the bomb squad. one container was red, the other was black. had 2-inch wicks coming out of the top. experts say they -- showed they contained a white powder, which could have caused a fire -- which could have expo -- exploded if a fire was started. the firm realitytrac says the homes that received an initial notice of foreclosure went up 33% in the month before. that's the biggest gain in four years. this may be a trend because foreclosures had begun to slow last fall, you may remember,
