tension on board as a jetliner headed to the bay area this morning. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. an oakland bound flight was forced to make a landing under emergency conditions this morning the & it involved two bay area airports. we spoke to the woman who found a bomb threat note. >> reporter: that's correct. she works at the bookstore at sfo. this was at an entirely different airport where she discovered the note. she told us she was cleaning off the counter top when she noticed this folded piece of paper. in red ink it said at the tops are warning. she continued to read it. it named the oakland bound flight and said it was going to explode. she said her knees buckled and she contacted her supervisor. that was around 7:00 a.m. today. the tsa, f.b.i. and oakland authorities were made aware of the situation. this is video from news chopper

2 above the oakland international airport where at kl the pilot aboard alaska airlines flight 342 from seattle safely landed the plane in a remote section of the airport. about 150 passengers were evacuated. bomb sniffing dogs inspected luggage on the tarmac and baggage claim area. an alaska airlines official says no bomb of found on the plane. passengers did provide us with cell phone video. they say it shows two men being detained. >> i think we're all nervous. no one knew what was going on. we didn't get a lot of information as to what was going on. i just googled it. we weren't able to take anything with us to the screening area. they fit the profile of, they had black hair, hooded sweatshirt, casually dressed, and that was pretty much it. >> reporter: now the crew was shaken up, passengers bags had to go through additional security screening. the plane is already back in

service. no bomb found on board. we just spoke with alameda county sheriff's office. they say those two men who were detained were released. they say they were no next no way connected on the note. the note mention add specific section of the plane and they were sitting in that section and that's why they were questioned. back to you. the suspect in the michele lei case of back in court today for a brief time. we're live with what happened in court and new information from investigators about human remains found near pleasanton. >> reporter: the woman accused of killing nursing student michele lei in court again today here in hayward this. hearing came two days after those human remains were found out in a remote area of alameda county in an area where searchers had been looking for michele lei's body. the suspect appeared in court this morning and she was assigned a public defender to represent her. her arraignment was put off

until next week. she has not entered a plea in the case. there was a discovery over the weekend. volunteer searchers found human remains near the sunol pleasanton border where police think michele lei's body was potentially dumped. one of the searchers was in court today. >> there is a lot of mixed emotions now because there are people that put hours and hours and hours behind the scenes doing this type of thing. the people that were involved, it's very emotional for them to discover somebody deceased. >> reporter: the alameda county sheriff's office is trying to do a positive identification on the skeletal remains. investigators say they're calling on a forensic pathologist and forensic dentist. the hayward police department wants that dentist to compare michele lei's dental records with the remains found over the weekend. >> if you are comparing it to a specific person, then it can go quicker than if it's just you

have dental bones and teeth it, can take a long, long time obviously. >> reporter: michele lei disappeared in may. the nursing student last seen leaving kaiser hospital in hayward. the alameda county sheriff says they'll potentially be performing that dental match on the human remains as early as today. the accused killer in this case will be back in court next wednesday. back to you. the south bay parolee facing robbery and kidnapping counts will soon be charged with murder. the special operations unit of the san jose police department arrested 33-year-old paul ray castillo last night in west sacramento. authorities accuse him of a violent crime spree that allegedly include shooting a man during a cass gages robbery, then a carjacking. investigators say paul ray castillo kidnapped and killed the driver, 60-year-old cindy nguyen. >> most of the officers have been til working in tandem with the special operations unit

developing leads, following up leads trying to track him down. we got a solid lead that led us to his location. >> investigators say paul ray castillo has a lety criminal record with burglary and drug convictions. cindy nguyen's body was found at a home linked to paul ray castillo. tonight san francisco police will give details about an officer involved shooting that left two bystanders wounded in north beach. police say 20-year-old jesus rodriguez pointed a gun at police on broadway early saturday morning. an officer fired at rodriguez but missed and instead hit a man and woman in their legs. tonight's meeting is at 6:30 at gene parker elementary school at broadway and powell street. the bay area air ql management district has declared today a spare the air day. hot temperatures and light winds are combining to produce poor air quality. this is the way it looks right now in san jose.

temperatures we expect outside your door. president barack obama says it's time that wealthy americans pay their fair share in taxes. he unveiled his proposal today from the white house rose garden. the ten year plan would cut the national deficit by more than $3 trillion. >> we should not balance the budget on the backs of the poor and the middle class. for to us solve this problem everybody including the wealthiest americans and biggest corporations have to pay their fair share. >> the president wants to let bush era tax cuts expire for those making more than $250,000 annually. the white house wanteds to enact the buffett rule. warren buffett were the wealthiest americans receive tax breaks they don't need. republicans vow to block any tax hikes. >> class warfare will divide this country more, will attack job creators, divide people and it doesn't grow the economy. >> here's a breakdown of the

the hft patrol is investigating a fatal crash near highway 237 in sunnyvale early this morning. just before 4:00 a.m., an suv was headed east on highway 237 when it hit the median, rolled over several times, and ended up matilda avenue below. 55-year-old keith taylor of mountain view was pronounced dead at the scene. investigators closed matilda avenue for 2 1/2 hours. the death toll from the reno, nevada, air race crash is

click on the reasony plane crash tab near the top of the page. a major victory this morning for supporters of same- sex marriage. a san francisco federal judge has decided to unseal video recordings of last year's trial on the constitutionity of proposition 8 which is california's ban on gay marriage. the judge ruled there is no reason to keep the recording secret. relig us a and conservative groups were against the release. they claim witnesses would be identified and targeted by prop 8 opponents. the tapes will become public at the end of the month unless the higher court over rowels today's decision. tomorrow san jose city council will discuss the increasing problem of graffiti around the city. a new survey shows the number of tags is up 38% in the last year. that brings the total to more than 44,000 which is the highest level since san jose started keeping track of tagging 13 years ago.

the increase does not appear to be gang related and some city leaders speculate high school students are to blame. a conference in oakland is under way now and it is focusing on preventing gang violence. the meeting is especially timely for the city of san jose which has seen funding for its gang prevention task force nearly cut in half. leaders from 13 cities are expected to take part in the conference including oakland's mayor and san francisco's mayor. parents, students and educators crowded outside the oakland unit pied school district offices today to speak out about the crowding inside some classrooms. they say the class sizes at one elementary school violate the terms of teacher contracts. the president of the oakland education association told us that the maximum class size for grades one through three is 30

students. she observed a class with 37 students. >> these students can't be put into situations where it's unsafe. they cannot learn. four of the classrooms are over the class size maximum. >> organizers of the protest today say they were told the school district does not have enough money to reduce class size. they say the district should make cuts elsewhere because classrooms and children should come first. bart's new general manager is reaching out to community groups, commuters and protesters. she tells the san francisco chronicle that her assistant has started contacts the aclu and any other groups that may have grievances. there have been protests over the fatal bart police shooting of a homeless man armed with knives and the cutting of underground cell phone service to stop a protest. demonstrations are expected to continue every monday.

lawsuits could delay or kill plans for a high speed rail in california. cities and nonprofit organizations are suing over issues with the route and environmental studies. a coalition of cities and groups on the peninsula had has gone to court twice over environmental studies of the route linking the bay area to the central valley. after the first lawsuit, the rail authority did a new study but a new lawsuit is now challenging that revised study. a new report shows the san francisco bay is much cleaner than in the past. according to the mercury news, scientists say the bay is far less pollute nowed than in the 1950s and 60s. the report comes out before a state estuary conference in oakland tomorrow. researchers credit the 1972 clean water act which upgraded sewage treatment plants. modern technology is removing up to 99% of contaminants in the waste water. good afternoon. a live look here at all that

sunshine outside our door. we have plenty of blue sky. temperatures are warming up quickly. we are dry. elevated fire danger as we move into the final days of summer. it will really feel like it. we do have a spare the air day with the inner east bay look at a pretty high index for today. clear skies, light wind and temperatures expectedded to soar again. some of us will be warmer than yesterday. oakland 88 yesterday, breaking a record. we will be anywhere from five to ten degrees above normal for this time of year. tuesday we'll hold on to the heat. wednesday the sea breeze may increase a bit. we are looking at a warm week ahead. we do have fog, that marine layer right off the coast. we don't see it intrude or come on to land. we do continue with this right at the coast. so along the coast we have the possibility of 60s today. the rest of us 80s, even 90s.

tonight for "moneyball," a new film about the oakland a's. brad pitt stars as general manager billy bean in the film about the a's 2002 division championship season. that's when bean started using so-called saber metrics to build a winning team. the film premieres at 6:00 tonight at oak land's paramount theater. it was quite a show last night. & tv is the best wonderland &. >> jane lynch hosted the emmys show right here. the big winner of the night was the comedy "modern family" which took home five emmys including best supporting actor, best supporting actress and best comedy series. major equity averages remain well above their session lows, still some concern about the greek debt situation and also apple stock slipped a bit, hit an all time high today in trading. the big reason for the increase for apple stock is some good news rnlings, good expectations on tablet sales. the dow is down 108. nasdaq down four. s & p is down ten. the amusement park company cedar fair is selling great america. they're selling the santa collarra amusement park to a real estate investment firm. the deal is all cash. the city must still approve the deal. netflix is officially splitting into two. last night the company a announced that its dvd and streaming services will now operate as two businesses. the dvd division will be called quickster, streaming serves will keep the netflix name. many subscribers were upset when the company announced over the summer that it was
