it has been a lodge two- year ordeal in iran but two hikers are free. good afternoon. i'm tory campbell. it's news many waitedded two years to hear. the american hikers have been released. shane bower and josh fattal were released earlier today. they left iran on a plane heading for oman after their lawyers obtained signatures on a bail for freedom deal. $500,000 for each man was posted by an unknown source, possibly someone from oman. their release had been delayed due to a power struggle between president ahmadinejad and his judicial rivals. bower and fattal have ties to the bay area. they are u.c. berkeley graduates and worked

delays and both men were convicted of espionage and trespassing and sentenced to eight years in prison. but oman would play a key role in the wake of the verdict, sending a plane eventually $1 million to secure their release today. claudine wong, ktvu, channel 2 news. homicide detectives are looking for clues in connection with the discovery of a dead body inside a popular restaurant. the woman's body was found around 7:30 last night inside a restroom at angie's bakery and restaurant near san pablo and mcbride avenues. the woman worked at the bakery. the owner left her with a few customers to run errands. when he returned, he found the bakery locked up and empty. investigators believe the killing could be related to a domestic dispute. the woman whose rescue dog found the body of michelle le talked publicly about that discovery. it happened on saturday in

federal loan program that helped tessla motors open a plant in fremont is in danger. the loan program is criticized by house republicans in the wake of the bankruptcy of solendra. house republicans want to take way remaining funds and transfer it to help pay for damage caused by hurricane irene. tessla received $465 million from the program to allow it to convert the former factory in fremont into a production line for electric vehicles. they're called to testify about half a billion dollar federal loan to the now-bankrupt company. but lawyers say the executives plan to invoke their fifth amendment rights against self incrimination. the fbi is also investigating solyndra. some people on the

this morning you may have detected the odor of gas on highway 92. pg&e crews were preparing for a pipeline test and purged gas from the pipe. the operation took about four hours. the test, though, will not take place for another couple of days. this school bus was hit by a car that ran a red light on foothill police department in oakland around 7:30 this morning. the bus driver was injured but none of the five children on board were hurt. after being hit, the bus went 75 feet down the road, hitting a parked car near vicksburg avenue. the unlicensed car driver smashed into a metal fence. the condition of the bus driver and the man in the car have not been released. thousands of nurses across northern and central california are getting ready to walk off the job tomorrow. they're planning a one-day

strike starting at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. the hospitals have hired replacement insurances, although some surgery -- nurses, although some surgeries are postponed. there were concerns at a district meeting last night. the district said the school has the fewest number of children from the neighbor attending there but parents said the school is at full capacity and serves a diverse population. eight elementary schools are on the preliminary closure list. on friday, the superintendent is expected to recommend which ones should close. then in late october, the school board will make a final decision. a new report reveals disturbing amounts of a toxic

substance in canned food for kids. the report by the breast cancer fund shows the presence of bpa in the canned food. the highest levels were found in campbell's disney princess and toy story soup. the chemical is used to make linings of the cans. bpa has been link to breast and prostate cancer, type 2 diabetes, early puberty in girls and a.d.d. with only a few hours remaining before a georgia inmate's execution, his lawyers are pursuing final appeals. protests are set to take place across the u.s. and in europe. troy davis is scheduled for execution in four hours for the 1989 murder of a police officer. he has insisted for years he never pulled the trigger. seven of nine trial witnesses have also recanted, plus some jurors say they changed their minds about his guilt. two vigils are planned in san

francisco at 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. at justin hermann plaza. authorities are calling it one of the biggest pot bust in marin county history. investigators seized some 7300 marijuana plants from an elaborate pot farm in west marin yesterday. the estimated street value is $18 million. authorities got a tip from some deer hunters who accidentally found a huge growth site. deputies are looking for the pot farmers, who appear to be on the run. medical marijuana dispensaries do not lead to more crime. the independent research group the rand corporation reviewed crime reports for the ten days before and after the centers closed. researchers found that crime actually went up once the dispensaries closed. one reason? more police and private security is required when

dispensaries opened. a federal study claims oakland police are too quick to draw their guns. researchers reviewed dozens of police case on january through march of this year. they determined officers did not have to draw their gun in 28% of the incidents examined. police were most likely to pull out their guns when confronting african-american suspects. it's the fallout from the ryder police scandal. flights are cancel and trains are out of service in japan because of a typhoon that made landfall overnight. rain and winds up to 100 miles per hour hit the area. six people are reported dead or missing. more than 1 million people have been told to evacuate. there's also concern about the nuclear plant damage by the march earthquake and tsunami. the fear is the storm could cause radioactive leaks.

stocks are mixed in this final hour of trading. positive news from technology companies including google, hp, oracle, and adobe triggered a minor rally in tech stocks. the nasdaq currently down 6 but you can see live on the big board the dow is down 113 right now at 11295 and the main reason for stocks dropping, a few minutes ago, a federal reserve announcement on a new strategy to boost a weak economy. it's called operation twist. the last time this was done was in the 1960 and will involve the shifting of $400 billion worth of short-term bonds to long-term bonds. that could help keep mortgage and other loan rates at low levels. now, the announcement comes after two-day meetings and as
