you slow it down. on hawley street, an injury crash, it could affect northbound traffic, and there is an alternate. 6:01 we are getting new information in the story of a body of a woman found in a restaurant. there is a photo of the man who police say is responsible for that woman's murder. a s.w.a.t., special weapons and tatics team surrounded the area where the man was hiding out with friends or family after he killed his ex- girlfriend. let's look at the suspect, after a 16 hour standoff with police negotiations broke down and just before 2:00 this morning police shot him when he came at them carrying a long rifle. they believe he killed the

woman at the restaurant where she worked in retch month. -- richmond. friends and family say he was her ex-boyfriend and had been talking -- stalking her for at least the last month. it is important to document the stalking so they would have a record of it. >> we can get victims the help they need to get away from these perpetrators. they are obviously violent and this is a tragic end and we never like to hear about cases ending in this way. it's just very tragic. >> police will not say how she was killed but her boss found her in his bathroom. at 6:00 an anonymous caller called reporting a man beating up a woman but when they called they left. there were no witnesses so they left. police believe they were in deed that couple fighting and he is in stable condition. they say he has an extensive

criminal record. there were several warrants out for his arrest and he will most likely be charged with murder come monday. i am tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. nurses preparing to walk off the job at the hospitals around the bay area and beyond, kraig debro is in oakland to talk about what is behind this one day strike, craig? pam, as you come to us on keizer and oakly you can see the nurse's association -- oakly,

you can see the nurse's association is thing up and workers will be walking picket lines at 21 keizer hospitals and some sutter hospitals as well. this is an e-mail -- do -- . this is a priority. late yesterday afternoon they started setting up and some of the pictures here, they started setting up in preparation for this one day strike. 21,000 keizer nurses could be striking today but they are only going on a strike to show support for 4,000 members of a union representing optical and union employees. those healthcare workers are not under contract but many of them if not all of them work for keizer as well. many of them work for sutter hospitals berkley sutter santa rosa and caster valley just a few being picketed and mental healthcare want their voices to be heard in treating patients with return visits. >> i have a great group of

let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza and the traffic is moving along relatively well getting up to the bay bridge. this is the golden gate bridge, he is out there in the cold bitter weather and looking at the fog, steve and i have been talking about the fog a lot. some people are happy to see the fog but if you are driving make sure you slow down. now i do want to mention that crash we found. i will move the maps down over here. it is northbound 280 at saratoga off ramp. you can see they are already slowing down on 280. avoid 280 and get on the freeway after saratoga avenue, you will be much better off. fog still coming back, more on the shallow side, 500 to

temperatures will take a plunge. fog to the north, still clear at last check, southwest at 10 but it is trying to crank up the delta breeze yet the napa airport is usually a sign of a cooler pattern this time of year. cloud cover with a pretty good system moving into the north of -- north of us and it will probably pick up the sea breeze. a lot of 60s and 70s closer to the coast and bay, a big difference in some of these temperatures and i am going under the forecast projection models. up to clear lake and ukiah, 72 alameda, 97 brentwood, pleasantton, 90s there, 82

. family's website said bryan stow is able to say his own name as well as the names of his son and daughter and has asked to see pictures of his children. new blood clots have appeared and bryan stow's recovery will still be a long one. they are investigating a robbery and this is a set back for very special students. somebody stole six i-pads. they are used for special needs students to develop their skills. it happened on september 6thth and a company which made ipad cases heard about it and

replaced the stolen ipad. the threat of another government shut down is looming. a bill to keep the government- running collapsed in the house last night but a program to help away area car maker is spared at least for now. >> reporter: that's right and the bottom line is funding for government operations runs out at the end of next week and the bill to keep the government running went down last night. they voted no they wanted money in the bill to be offset by bigger spending cuts. democrats also voted no saying the cuts went too far. they specifically did not like cutting money from a company. that bill is helping and democrats say losing it will hurt jobs. >> this keeps america number

damage. heavy winds knocked down a tree right on top of that taxicab. it triggered flooding and missed that nuclear power plant that was damaged by the earthquake and tsunami. it was a fear it could cause another radioactive leak. meantime, they have intensified a bid and it should get weaker as it moves further west. the national hurricane center says winds have increased to 65 miles per hour but it is expected to weaken within the next 48 hours and there is no immediate threat to land. golden gate transit is expected to approve new funding to install wireless service on its bus fleets. they are expected to promote free wireless to its passengers and service on some $170,000 of

there is a lot of fog and it is clear here, there are some areas that have not made it, but there is some thick fog, low clouds coast and bay visibility for some not for all. temperatures felt cooler and some of the higher elevations are not running cooler. there is a cold front, yes, and a cold front moving into the north and we are on the southern edge of it. overtime fog will win out and some of those clouds will maybe pay a visit. low clouds fog, very warm for some, there will still be some inland and it did bring temperatures down for san rafael, red wood city, 50s and 60s and 70s coast and in the city and along the bay. fog sun, temperatures continue

hiding with friends and family, he is responsible of killing his ex-girlfriend. >> reporter: the standoff did not end until a few hours ago. he had a history of domestic violence and could not let his relationship with this 30-year- old woman go. they say he killed her tuesday night at the bakery and restaurant in richmond where she worked. friends and family said he had been stalking her for at least a month. they came here after receiving a tip. >> we continued to negotiate with him and tried to negotiate with him throughout the night. the suspect continued to be uncooperative. at 1:40 this morning he addressed some officers with a rifle, he was shot and taken to the hospital. >> police will not say how she

was killed but her boss found her body in the restaurant of a bathroom. at 6:00 that same night, some people reported a couple arguing and fighting in front of a restaurant. now we don't know his condition but we are told he is stable and has an extensive criminal record. police have several warrants out for his arrest. coming up we will try to talk to her family and she does leave behind two children. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:32, the city of vallejo trying to put an end to 911 hang ups. telling us about the new fees designed to teach everybody an important lesson about making accidental emergency calls and we have more from vallejo, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are at the police department and the dispatch center and police say if you have an emergency, please call 911. it is the hang ups false alarms

they are trying to stop. there is a new ordinance that goes into effect that says if you misuse the 911 system you could pay up to $200. we are talking about dispatchers and if they don't pick up they have to send out two officers to make sure everyone is okay. on average it happens 45 times a year and it is unnecessary resources and delays police's responses to true emergencies. recently i spoke about staffing in general in the post bankruptcy world in vallejo. >> it is quite startling to see how few people they have. in the other organizations i have been in where they have big money problems, i have not seen the level of staffing we have here. >> reporter: now this ordinance

be in the 90s and others will be in the upper 60s. fog bank is starting to lift much cooler and not only tropical clouds coming up from southern california and sunday could have the first rain of the season. it will be cooling down for everyone by the time we get to sunday. morning hours have a lot of low clouds and fog and some of that has reduced visibility, but when it starts to lift it is more in the form of clouds. some very warm temperatures a loft and that's assure sign cooler weather is on the way. cooler coast and bay and that fog is really ramped up but a cooler pattern will take us into the weekend. a few low 60s and also up to parts of the north bay but when

you start to see vacaville fairfield and napa airport all showing a westerly breeze it has been calm and now it is showing a breeze which is not strong yet but leaning that way. the system responsible is right there in the pacific northwest. really heavy rain up towards seattle and vancouver but we are looking for a cooler pattern increase in the fog and also clouds in southern california which may play into our saturday forecast. today low clouds fog sun it will be cool by the beaches and this is our last full day of the summer. tomorrow morning equinox, 90s for some, 50s and 60s probably cooler over towards row day vallejo san jose 86, 8 red

officers racing to emergencies that don't exist. they will have to try again to prevent a government shut down after next week after surprise defeat of a bill yesterday. democrats said tea party republicans voted against it. nurses are preparing to walk off the job for a one day strike. kraig debro is in oakland this morning to talk about what is behind the strike, here is more. >> reporter: it is complicated pam, you can see it is on the national healthcare union workers. this one day strike you heard so much about, 34 hospitals northern and central california started with this union. they work for keizer hospital and without a contract have not been able to get a deal which calls for the one day strike. after the strike nurses with both sutter and keizer hospitals decided they would

use this day to point out and highlight some of their own issues. nurses at keizer say they are protesting deeper cuts for healthcare and nurses are making it more expensive to brick their own kids for care. they are trying to stop sutter from closing hospitals in lower income neighborhoods. >> it is a working class neighborhood serves a lot of lower income patients and it would be shut entirely if it was not for nurses in a lower largely minority population in san francisco. >> reporter: now this strike is huge, we talked about it earlier, 34 hospitals, at least 21,000 cna nurses and a lot of them have hired temporary workers to come in and replace those nurses so patients should not have to worry about it.

point normally we see southbound two lanes and northbound two lanes but we can't. it is foggy in san mateo and alameda counties so use caution. westbound bay bridge backed up for a 20 minute delay. again a crash on hawley southbound 101 and they have been making progress in opening the lanes but still heavy traffic in beaumont and red wood city. they have been cleared from the lanes but traffic is still an area to avoid, use 280 instead. southbound from haywood union city, let's go to steve. we have temperatures which will be much cooler and as pam pointed out same thing. temperatures will cool off still hanging on to a few 90s

. now 6:55 a judge is expected to set a trial date filed by victims of last year's deadly disaster. there are more than 300 plaintiffs but pg&e wants to consolidate followed by a mediation phase. san francisco fire department will pay tribute to two fallen firefighters, lieutenant vincent perez and anthony died battling a fire and their names will be added to a big list of men and woman who died in the line of duty.
