federal investigators joined local officers in an effort to stop a gang of armed masked robbers. i'm tori campbell. at this hour the f.b.i. is teaming up with several local agencies in an effort to track down a group masked gunmen who have hit three businesses in several bay area cities over the course of the two days. we're live from one of the places any walnut creek. >> reporter: police say they think these robbers are getting more confident. this gas station is a couple of blocks from the police station. lots of people told us it's very common to see police officers parked in this parking lot next door to it. that did not seem to faze this gang of masked robbers. that's where they parked before

heading inside the food mart guns drawn. when they went into that food mart they were recorded by several cameras. all were wearing halloween masks or costumes. the clerk inside at the time told this man what happened. >> he said that six guys came in with guns, brought him in the back room, and scared him pretty well trying to get him to open the safe. he says he couldn't open the safe for them. that's all he told me. >> when the group left police say they fired a shot at a man filling up had his car and then the six robbers took off only to do it again two hours later at this food max in antioch. they fire at least two shots there and they believe that same group hit a 7-11 in pleasant hill a day earlier. >> the reason we believe they're connected is their m.o., they're doing the same thing, carrying guns. they're directing the same way they've directed in other things. other thing that we're seeing is their masks. >> police say the crooks are not getting away with much.

soda and a little cash. police call it a high risk crime with a high penalty and low reward. they are worried that the crooks are getting more confident and they don't want anyone getting hurt. that is the main concern. there is a meeting between the f.b.i. and local agencies right now. back to you. >> thank you. a san francisco district attorney george gascon sex heading up an annual summit today on stalking. the summit is designed as a training session for police officers, police inspectors, prosecutors, and organizations that support victims. it comes just ahead of domestic violence awareness month in october. because of a link between the stalking of adults a and domestic violence. the summit is also focusing on a growing threat to children. >> if you talk to young kids, the majority will tell you that at some point they have been the victim of cyberstalking. it's a growing problem.

it's a problem we need to come together as a community and figure out better ways to deal with it. >> ep four million americans are victims of stalking every year. the best way to combat this problem is through education. the military today announced that a soldier from american canyon has been killed in afghanistan. 21-year-old specialist garrett fant died monday in afghanistan. he and his unit were attacked by enemy forces with an i.e.d. he was based in fort riley, kansas. police in the east bay are confirming that a young woman was attacked by a group of men in the city of clayton. the 19-year-old woman says five young men kicked and punched her near the flagpole at oak and main streets last sunday night. she says at one point she lost consciousness. police say the victim refused to give any information to them at first and refused medical treatment. she later went to the hospital.

police are asking anyone who may have seen the attack to call them. san francisco police say they have arrested a 15 dwreerd boy on suspicion of murder in connection p when the shooting death of a restaurant employee in the city's mission district four weeks ago. 22-year-old gas par puczek worked as a cook at the hogs and rocks restaurant at 19th and san karl rose streets. investigators say on august 30 he was standing outside smoking a cigarette when two people came up and one shot him in the head. police say they might have mistaken him for a rival gang member. the santa cruz sup county superior court is warning people about a phone scam in which calls are claim to be from the court and ask for personal information. the caller claims to be from the sunnyvale court. the scam caller then asks for personal financial information or payment saying it's needed as part of a legal case.

authorities say court employees never ask for this kind of information. anyone who receives such a call should ask for a name, a phone number, and a case number. then report it to police. the alameda county sheriff's off today is trying to figure out who shot at an ac transit bus shattering a a window. no one was hurt. authorities say it could have turned out much worse. >> reporter: at 12:30 this morning half a dozen passengers aboard this bus heard something strike a window. >> we believe a pellet gun was used to shoot at the window of the bus. >> plexiglas shattered but stayed intact. no one of hurt. the shooting goes beyond vandalism. >> potentially if somebody does something like this, the person could swerve, cause an accident. it could have all kinds of trouble. >> the disipped off san pablo avenue near 59th street. alameda county sheriff's deputies investigating the incident say that the suspect

could have hidden hyped a bush like this and any of these doorways. it was too dark for people to see. ac transit authorities say after the bus was hit, the driver kept going for 14 blocks because operators are trained to keep moving until they feel it's safe fluff to pull over. >> there is a certain segment of the population that thinks if they throw rocks or shoot pellet guns at buses it's funny. it's not. >> deputies are now reviewing surveillance video from the bus and nearby businesses hoping it will provide clues. all six passengers and the bus driver were transferred to another bus. back to you. the city of berkeley is mulling a new program aimed at readying drunk driving. the stown stown is considering a plan to fine those involved with dui accidents if they're found guilty of cawing the crash. the cost would depend on the number of responding police officers, time spent in jail,

towing charges and the number of emergency vehicles called in. one berkeley stown stown member says it would not only save the city money but would also be effective as a deterren to drunk driving. the labor department today reported the number of new claims for jobless benefits dropped to 391,000. that's down 37,000 from the week before. the new low numbers may not mean fewer people are looking for work. a labor department analyst says it could be the result of technical issues. a survey out today, the nation's chief executive officers give a grim forecast for the nation's economy. the business round table's quarterly survey of 140 c.e.o.'s found that only 36% expect to hire new employees over the next six months. that's down from 51% three months ago and 24% expect to cut jobs. the percentage who expect to increase capital spending fell

from 61% to 32%. fixed mortgage rates have hit a historic low for the fourth straight week. freddie mac said today that 30 year fixed mortgages are now just 4.01%. that's the lowest rate since records began in 1971. the 15 year fixed mortgage went down to 3.28%. rate choose fall further if the federal reserve takes additional measures to lower long term rates. the low rates don't seem to be helping home sales. the national association of realtors says sales agreements fell 1.2% last month. that puts the monthly level at 88.6%. 100 is considered healthy. he wanted to deliver a psychological blow to the enemies of a llah. a federal affidavit claims that

was the motivation behind the terrorism plot allegedly hatched by 26-year-old massachusetts man. what he reportedly landedded to do with model planes in this report from the pentagon. >> toy planes strapped with explosives flying at more than 100 miles an hour, their sights set on the pentagon and the u.s. capitol building. that's what federal officials say was the plan helped by 26- year-old rezwan ferdaus, the massachusetts man arrested in framing hal about 20 miles outside boston. this normally sleepy suburb swarming with federal agents, neighbors surprised by the arrest. >> i'm shocked. i'm just shocked. this is a nice suburban neighborhood in metro west. we don't of the crime like that here. >> federal officials say rezwan ferdaus was nabbed in a sting operation. undercover agents posing as al- qaeda operatives recorded conversations with the suspect where they say he explains his plans for the aerial attacks in

washington. he was taken into custody after the undercover federal agents delivered materials he allegedly requested including grenades, six machine guns and what he believed was 24 pounds of c-4 explosive. federal officials were the public was never in danger from the explosives which it said were always under control and closely monitored. prosecutors also accuse rezwan ferdaus of supplying the undercover agents with cell phone devices he said could be used to remotely detonate explosives. rezwan ferdaus is a u.s. citizen who graduated from northeastern university with a bachelor's degree in physics. >> it's a big school. you can have a mixed bag of anyone here. it's frightening to hear something like that especially so reason and someone who graduated who is close to my age. >> a federal affidavit says rezwan ferdaus started planning gee maude against america -- jihad against america in 2010 after being radicalized by

liberated cities. >> libya's new leaders suspect gadhaff six in the country's southern desert. senator graham said as long as he is not brought to justice the country cannot be secure. back to you. the house of representatives today approved legislation to keep the government up and running through next tuesday. a bipartisan agreement ended a dispute over disaster relief spending that threatened to cause a partial shutdown of the government. it provides $2.7 billion in disaster aid which is less than both democrats and republicans had hoped for. more details are coming out about the new closed solyndra solar plant in fremont. a facilities manager there called it a taj mahal. it reportedly had spa-like showers with liquid crystal displays of the water temperature, a glass walled conference rooms, and robots

that whistled disney tunes. part of the building's construction was paid for by a $535 million federal loan guarantee. the plant filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month. 1,100 workers lost their jobs. an internal government watchdog today accused the obama administration of cutting corners on a key document used to support costly regulations for greenhouse gases. the inspect over general for the epa says the epa should have followed a more extensive review process for that document. the document states greenhouse gases are a danger to human health. the epa and the white house say the report was vetted by twelve experts and did not require more scrutiny because of it based on findings already thoroughly researched. in california the state supreme court has decided to allow implementation of a controversial global warming law during an appeal. ab-32 calls for a cap and trade

system for businesses that exceed their emission quotas allowing them to trade the excess emissions for other environmentally friendly actions like planting trees. anti-poverty advocates are oppose to the law saying the pollution from those businesses will impact nearby communities that are typically low income. michael jackson's bodyguard took the stand today in the involuntary manslaughter trial for dr. conrad murray. alberto alvarez testified he rushed to michael jackson's bed radio many to find the pop star lying in bed with his eyes open. he said dr. conrad murray told him to take vials from the bedside and put them in a bag. prosecutors are trying to show that dr. conrad murray delayed calling 9-1-1 and that he injected michael jackson with a powerful anesthetic propofol normally used only in hospitals. defense attorneys say michael jackson injected himself. the trial is expected to take four to five weeks. twitter is giving scientists a way to analyze

moods and find out if there is a consistent pattern. the researchers at cornell university say they analyzed tweets from almost 2.5 million people in 84 countries all in english and that people tend to wake up in a good mood and are happiest on weekends. but they say a mid-day dip in moods does not necessarily indicate stress from work or traffic. they say that same dip happens on the weekend. all right. on twitter, yes, very good information coming in. good information today. people talking about yesterday was all heat. today it's cooler, some fog coming back and also a sea breeze is definitely kicking in. so fog on the coast, some of it's making a push inland. a few high clouds, mostly sunny.

fog increasing, cool to hot, coastal fog and cool to hot. a weak system in between sacramento and fresno brought in some high clouds this morning. they're push off toward the sierra. we're looking at that fog. it came returning up the coast. 86 at lover more. concord is 78. san jose 77. santa rosa 77. lots of 70s. oakland 68, 64 in the city. 75 redwood city and mountain view. if you are a fan of the fog, there you can see it. yesterday the coast was clear. that is not the case today. it came flying up the coast, made the turn at point reyes, now it's moving up the coast. tonight it will start to get lifted and it will cool down inland areas. couple of systems are beginning to get closer toward california. the first one won't do much. it's already running into resistance. that will help the fog. that will continue the cooling pattern.

not really welcoming for any rain until next week. still warm to hot inland, there will be a breeze, though. already in oakland you can feel that breeze moving in. the sea breeze is establishing itself. the cooling trend starts coast and bay today, even inland. there will still be some warm temperatures. friday into saturday temperatures come way down. fog, fair, mostly sunny, cool for some, hot if you are far enough away from the coast. still that is a is sign of cooler weather on the way. 60s and 70s to as aark few low 90s. i think after today that's it for the 90s for a while. temperatures starting to come down for a few, more so for others especially on the coast, the peninsula and in the city which yesterday was 88. today 68. >> big drop. >> yep. more of this fog, cooler friday. here come weak systems. don't cancel any plans for the week en. next week a lot of grapes on

the vine. monday, wednesday, thursday looks like rain. >> thank you. sonoma county plans to offer frontier airlines $1.5 million in incentives to start service at santa rosa airport. according to the press democrat, the money is a combination of private and public funding including $650,000 from the federal government. frontier and the county still need to work out terms of the new flights. the county says for now it's only looking at a single flight day to denver starting next summer. we have just found out if the raiders home game again the patriots will be televised this weekend or if it will be blacked out. it was a tricky maneuver. see why some brave surfers on a southern california beach stuck their hands inside a shark's mouth. i am a throat untickler.

stocks remain near session lows after the dow was up over 200 early this morning thanks to only optimism about germany voting to support the plan to help out the european debt crisis. the good news also on jobless first time job little claims which we told you about and low rates for 30 year mortgages. the dow is up 21 currently. nasdaq is down 40.

s & p is down four. raiders fans will have an opportunity once again this sunday to watch a home game on local tv. tom brady returns for his fir game in the bay area in nine years when the raiders host the new england patriots. the raiders are also coming off a big victory over the jets which was also sold out and shown on local tv and again due to sellout conditions, the game this sunday was just sold out, so it will be broadcast locally. surfers in southern california sprang into act to help a suffering baby shark. the young great white washed ashore on venice beach saturday morning. youtube video shows the shark flopping around on the shore. it apparently became trapped after it got hooked on a fishing line. a few surfers were actually brave fluff to approach the shark. they removed the hook and dragged it back to the suv line where it could swim away on its own. tonight at 5:00, the national oceanic and
