. this is the 10:00 news on ktvu channel 2. and a shot from and suv shows a violent party ending at a san leandro warehouse. tonight, the people responsible as three families grieve. good evening, i'm heather holmes. and police say they're looking for at least two gunmen who opened fire at the end of an unauthorized warehouse party in the city's industrial area. ktvu has more information on the triple homicide. >> reporter: well, we have just learned police have not received tips in this case. this is where the shooting happened right here in the parking lot. we do know tonight that the three young people shot and killed aged in range from 23- 16. tonight, we learned more tonight from the man whose father wants justice. this was the picture pointed out to us, he came to the

tattoo party here in the industrial park. it was late, she stayed until the party was over. but then there was gunfire. >> right now the information that we have is that the victims were -- possibly surprised by what happened, and the suspects ran in an unknown direction. >> reporter: she was not the only victim when the bullets hit her father's dark green explorer. a person close to shanice said she was gunned down with two friends, alfred and northington. we learned that she ehad been accepted into the university, but had not enrolled in any classes. the shooting leaves avoid for the families. >> it was really sad, i never saw anything like that in my life. and my heart was just broken. >> reporter: detectives are looking into this so-called party, which without a permit police knowledge and private

security still manage to draw a crowd of up to 400 people, saturday night. >> there is a possibility that it may have been more of a zoning issue rather than a permit issue, based upon the fact this was private property. we'll be able to confirm those issues tomorrow. >> reporter: now police say three others were injured. no word on their condition. they're also updating the number of people at the party. i was told tonight the number may be closer to 250. if you have any information please call the tips hot line at this number. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu. and contra costa sheriff's office said that there was a fight yesterday coming from a domestic incident. they came to the house at about 3:30 yesterday, and found kusumono dead, a woman reported shooting him saying he was an intruder who threatened her and her pregnant daughter.

the investigators say the two knew each other but wouldn't give details on the nature of the relationship. and san francisco police made no arrest in the bay view shooting. the san francisco medical's office says that nick franton suffered gunshot wounds near keith street at a liquor store. he later died after the shooting. officers learned about it from the shots fired gun detention system. and streets closed to repair a sinkhole. drivers found it earlier on 15th between gary boulevard, about two feet long. a spokesperson for the san francisco public utilities commission says it was caused by the collapse of a hundred- year-old sewer main. the sinkhole didn't cause any water problems. and a monster technology party is under way tonight in san francisco. and the city is reaping the

children may not be protected against these type of diseases. the new survey agrees with another report last month that shows at least one in 10 toddlers were behind the vaccines. the new report can be found in the journal of children. and governor jerry brown signed a bill regarding a policy. the governor's office announced he signed this legislation into law. this was written in response to the let me ask circunsision attempt. and three gas fires around palo alto may have been set on purpose, all starting yesterday afternoon between palo alto and east palo alto. witnesses say kids were seen in the area just before the fires were reported. it took about 90 minutes for firefighters to put the fires out. and tomorrow marking a

major shift on how criminals in california will be sentenced. the new realignment program will allow judges to sentence nonviolent criminals to serve time in county jails instead of state prisons. the program aims to help over- crowding in california state prisons, the money will be given to the counties to help for the extra burden, but some doubt it will help because of the amount of prisoners. and supreme court new session beginning. today just is prepared with prayer. the traditional red mass was held in washington, d.c. leaders pray for wisdom for those who work in the courts system to decide upcoming cases, this year including issues such as immigration, religious liberties and whether or not to challenge appeal regarding the president's health care law. >> i think all of the factors

together make it a difficult situation for the supreme court to turn down. >> groups are calling justice kegan and justice thomas recuse themselves regarding the health care law because of personal connections. and the geezer bandit striking again, they were seen pointing the gun at a teller, the elderly man fits the description of the man who officials say is responsible for at least 14 robberies across southern california. authorities can't say for certain it is the same man because it is possible there could be copy cats. and in just a few hours, american exchange student amanda knox is scheduled to address an italian court in a bid to win her freedom. she is expected to make a bid for freedom. it will be the last chance in her hearing to convince the italian court to set her free. they are supposed to issue a

. skating on thin concrete ice, a popular skating park is in jeopardy of shutting down because of budget cuts. ktvu's maureen naylor has more. >> reporter: heather at 68,000 square feet, this is the largest skate park in california. san jose came up with 14,000 to keep this one open at least a

few months longer. it has been a bumpy financial ride for san jose's cunningham regional skate park. the three-year-old six million facility near raging waters has the largest park, draws 40,000 visitors a year. >> i am 44 years old, but it is great exercise. i have a lot of friends that i ride with that are in their 50s. bring your kids, ride the skate boards and it is like we're kids again. >> reporter: this family brought their seven-year-old son this evening, not aware of the financial incident. >> not aware, we were sad, this is cheap, easy, it is so fun. something my son loves to do. >> i thought it was just ridiculous, they use tax dollars for other things, why not keep the skate parks open. >> reporter: they only kept enough money to keep it staffed through september.

now extra funds will keep it open through february. now the wheels are in motion to keep it open longer through private sponsorships. >> we have asked the private sectors to get involved, we have had a lot of offers. they want to sponsor it, so it would add several thousand into the park. >> reporter: the council member said the 300,000 corporate sponsorship would easily cover the 60,000 budget shortfall. she expects action in the coming months. reporting live, san jose, maureen natural ktvu news. and new concerns on the quick spread of oak problems. they see double and triple increases in some parts of the bay area. researchers say the worst areas were in the south bays, along south skyline boulevard near losgatos, where 97% of the trees checked tested positive for sudden oak death.

and groups of raiders fans can look scary. ktvu's ken pritchett has more on the reality check from fans and a local teacher. >> reporter: in the sellout crowd of raiders fans, tailgating before the game we found a different sort of fan, a man watching fans with a camera. >> i see it as primary symbolic behavior coming out of the individual cells of each individual. >> reporter: he chairs the department at the college and is studying the pre-game raiders nation for more than 10 years. he says this image? >> that could be the super bowl in our business right now. >> reporter: of masks and costumed raiders fans is slanted in the nationally televised media. there are more jersey-clad families out there than those who stand out. that is what the team wants people to understand. >> i hope -- i mean like i

francisco. veterans, current members of the military and their supporters will ride 450-miles from the bay area to santa monica pier to raise money for veteran's affairs locations. they say that cycling serves as a variety of ways to help. >> to help us cope and deal with our injuries, it doesn't matter whether they are physical injuries, emotional or mental injuries. >> the bikers road to santa cruz today. private donors say for the veterans and travel expenses. and bay area pet owners today took their furry friends to the annual animal blessing, the pets were blessed, and honored by st. francis, for whom the city of san francisco is named. he is the saint for animals. they say it is as much for the people as its for the animals.

>> i think it helps the people most, and so anything that spills over into us, spills over into him. so it is a circle and we're helping each other. >> the tradition of blessing animals in churches all over the country, usually are held on the sunday before the feast day of st. francis on october four. and federal prosecutors to fight a proposed plan to allow the man who attempted to kill ronald reagan to leave a mental hospital. a jury found john hinckley insane after the shooting. he said he shot the president to tried to impress actress jodie foster. he has spent 30 years in prison. but recently he was allowed to visit his mother for 10 days at a time. now the hospital officials want him to be allowed to visit longer, and move in with his mother. and a c.i.a. contractor who confessed to killing two people in pakistan is now involved in a violent

traction here in the united states. davis got into a fight with that man over a parking spot. a fight quickly turned physical. and now davis faces charges of assault and disorderly contact. the victim says the whole thing was not necessary. >> i got hit, i went back and hit my back straight on the concrete. and then i don't know. to get hit over a parking spot? that is ridiculous. >> back in january, davis shot and killed two pakistani men who tried to rob him. he was released in march over a deal that helped the victims' families. and people working at ground zero will once again be able to apply for money starting tomorrow. those who suffer from illnesses such as lung diseases will be eligible for the september 11th victim compensation fund. however this program will not cover cancer. federal officials say there is not sufficient evidence to show a link between cancer and work

or food. and as they reported the hospital is filled with the wounded and dying but far too little supplies to meet the needs. >> a team from the international red cross managed to enter the town after both sides agreed. they went to the hospital to deliver medical supplies. but they found a packed hospital full of victims of the fighting. the red cross says that medical supplies are running out there. and there is also a lack of oxygen, and the water supply to the hospital has been damaged because of the fighting. people, they say, are dying there because they can't get treatment. the red cross team said they couldn't visit the wounded in the wards because the hospital was being fired on. several rockets hit the building while they were there. this fighting has been going on even though the revolutionary forces hitting the town called a truce to allow the citizens to get out of the city, they have been flooding out through a route they left open for

them. now muammar qaddafi is hemmed in an area around the town. the revolutionary commanders say when the truce ends and they don't give up, they intend to flatten the town. tripoli,. and questions on how a government war plane ended up bombing troops killing at least 30 of the own soldiers, happening yesterday where the soldiers were fighting al-qaeda fighters. while the bombing appeared to be a mistake, those who were killed were from a unit who had decided with the protesters. al-qaeda came into the bomb site, reportedly and shot and killed wounded soldiers. and today, a senior yemeni official disputes that a top leader was killed. the u.s. intelligence officials have said that ibrahim hassan al-asiri appeared to be among

the top al-qaeda killed. but the u.n. official says his body was not identified at the scene. he was tied to the so-called underwear bomber who tried to bring down a jet liner. in other news of the world in syria, people taking to the streets today celebrating words that syria has looked at over throwing the regime. the announcement comes after five days of intense fighting between the syria military and army defectors. it also follows thursday's incident where the u.s. ambassador's convoy was attacked after he visited the opposition leaders in damascus. and officials looking to determine what caused a plane to go down, killing 18 people. a search and rescue team loaded the victims' bodies into a

helicopter. they are headed to a hospital for identification. all four passengers and crew members on board died when the plane went down on thursday in the mountains. and on australia's gold coast, the girls and women's record for the largest bikini parade. they ran the spectrum from 15- 55. the officials there, you can' them there. they counted the number of women in the procession and confirmed they had indeed beat the previous record. if you think that is something to look at, check this out. the show wrapping up the san diego, last night the show ended up with the spectacular explosives display. planes from the show-stopping great wall of fire measuring 25 feet long, about half a mile. that ties the record at the same show set 11 years ago. and see how animal

pollution to see why it became confused. and now, painting a picture of who we are as americans. increasingly, some of the most important parts of the picture are getting left out and leaving huge blank spaces crying to be filled in. more on the special report. >> reporter: everybody knows the number of muslims is increasing in the bay area, right? everybody knows how many immigrants live in the united states, right? and san francisco has more gay men than any other u.s. city, correct? no. we have no accurate numbers for points. the census we take every 10 years that would tell us those answers just doesn't ask those questions. among many others. >> 2010 census was perhaps the shortest one on record. >> reporter: hans johnson is an expert with the public policy institute in california. he points out that dozens of questions asked in the 2000

census disappeared in the 2010 census. >> a shorter census would be more effective. would be less costly. >> reporter: in other words, the census bureau decided americans would be more able to complete the stream lined for for forms, and taxpayers could save literally millions for each questions not asked. but there are other costs not so easily looked at. many older questions are asked in an older survey, but it is not effective for communities with fewer than 65,000 people, which is much of the country. one expert says that much critical data is lost. for example? >> people who have higher levels of education earn more money and over their life time that amounts to hundreds of thousands of millions. >> reporter: but since we no longer ask questions about income or education, we can't keep good track of this vital finding that can spur the

nation forward. another example? we no longer count people who live in apartment houses, meaning communities as big as detroit or as small as east palo alto may come up short. >> in voting determinations of district size you don't exist for purposes of determining how many people need to be served, transportation programs or -- education programs. so yes, it is a big deal. >> reporter: east palo alto mayor carlos romero is upset that his town is listed as losing almost 5% of its population in the last 10 years, the biggest percentage drop in the bay area. >> it puts us at a huge disadvantage. >> reporter: its not just money and political power that goes away. >> most importantly if you lose people but they didn't really go because they're actually there, then we are impacted doublely, we're priding the services but not getting the money. >> reporter: pam cook, ktvu news. and hundreds of arrests

didn't stop the demonstrators in new york city. >> who is free? >> we're free. >> this was the scene as the police shut down the lane on the brooklyn bridge as a protest against the nation's financial system. more than 700 people were arrested for walking on the road. but today the group occupying wall street were back at it, putting on a corporate forum for issues. members have been camped out for almost two weeks, staging marchs. and in california, thousands marching to los angeles city hall, demonstrating against corporate greed and social inquality. and a technical glitch, not hackers causing problems with the website for two days. a spokesperson says that their website is up and running well. the bank of america site had troubles on friday, just a day after it announced plans to

and santa rosa, at 55. and multiple storms right now, the first one is moving to the north coast, closer to yreka, and a factor tomorrow, a second stronger storm is developing, tuesday night, moving into wednesday, could produce a potentionally strong storm. this first one impacts the area tomorrow. tomorrow morning, rainfall developing up in the north bay between 12 and 3:00, the rain line spreading to the south. the rainfall expectations, a 10th of an inch to the south bay, the numbers approaching one inch. the models showing you, 9:00, the best numbers in sonoma county, approaching the central bay by tomorrow afternoon. and then for the south bay mid- to late afternoon, a factor out there, wet roads, by this time tomorrow, a few scattered showers. we have a winter storm watch to talk about. as the storm moves out to the
