president obama respond today to criticism of solyndra. the president's comments came after news suffered that a democratic donor warned the white house about supporting solyndra. e-mails show investors told the president's advisories there were concerns about the company's finances. in one e-mail he said the president should avoid remarks that could haunt him if solyndra files for bankruptcy. two days later the president visited solyndra. in an interview today president obama defended his support of

the program that helped fund solyndra saying there will be failures and solyndra is an example. president obama is pressuring congress once again to pass his jobs plan before the end of the month. the president says his $450 billion planned with include tax breaks for businesses that hire the unemployed. the president also wants to use the money to prevent loves of teachers and first responders. >> i can't imagine any american not interested in seeing construction workers back on the jobe rebuilding schools, putting teachers back in the classroom, making your our vets get help and small businesses have incentive to hire them. >> republicans say the bill is too costly and one agrees, he

. >> complete bay area news coverage continues, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. repairing for a wet week as back to back storms are expected to roll through the bay area. the rainy weather arrived earlier than usual and expected to intensify. our chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking the storm but we begin with noel walker. >> reporter: look at this all you viewers, lots of red lights. that is expected at 5:00 but combine the wet driving conditions and things are worse and leads to white knuckle driving out there.

that's the most dangerous roads we see all year, except when it's flooded. they are as slippery as it can be. on the bridge or 80, university avenue, the bridge over towards the richmond side, slow traffic. that north -- the lights towards us are going towards -- into san francisco and that is backed up. big time backed up. live at the golden gate bridge, showing you the light rain falling. also towards berkeley, that's what we are seeing. low grade, moderate consistent rainfall that is lasting for a few hours now and will linger for the next hour or two. the big story, the national weather service issued a winter storm warning for the lake tahoe area for what is coming tomorrow night into wednesday. that is a big deal.

stabbed by a relative. the woman died from her injuries and officers were met by the attacker and armed. >> two knives. they used their weapon, that shoots a bean bag round and that was ineffective. >> reporter: that's when officers opened fire, killing the man. he was the adult son that lived at the house. this family friend says the son had mental health issues and probably snapped. >> reporter: did you think he was violent in any way? >> i think he is violent, yeah. >> reporter: after waking up to find their street closed off by crime tape, people were relieved to find out this wasn't a random attack. >> either way it's sad if someone got to that level of, you know, anger. >> reporter: after police shot the man they found another relative a woman hiding out

inside the house. she was not hurt. the man who was stabbed is in fair condition at last check at san francisco general hospital. police are not releasing the noms of the people involved in this shabbing and shooting and police won't comment on the mental state of the man behind the attack. alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. new requirements went into effect today which are expected to increase the inmate population throughout california. part of a plan to reduce overcrowding at prisons. under the plan felons who have not committed crimes of a violent nature will serve in county jails rather than state prison. cut took effect at the police department. among the cuts, 911 will be outsourced to the south san

the u.s. supreme court decided a woman is allowed to sue a southern california jail for forcing her to remove her scarf. they had previously said she had right to wear it unless jail officials showed it was a security risk. the jewish community is applauded a new log that prevents cities from instituting laws criminalizing the circkicism of minors. they issued a statement

. officials are investigating the death of a woman to see if it's linked to recalled cantaloupe. she had been diagnosed with listeria. now they are working to determine where the fruit came from. cantaloupe from colorado has been linked to 84 illnesses and 17 deaths now in 19 states. mean time a company behind a lettuce recall expanded its warning to 19 states. 2500 cartons of romaine lettuce have been pulled after a sample

tested positive for listeria. there have been no reports of anyone getting sick. fisherman are resorting to trickery to save the salmon industry. ktvu's rob roth explains how they want to fool mother nature. >> reporter: when the commercial salmon season over, this fisherman was weighing his catch of the day. the salmon season was dismal. >> it takes 5 million pounds of fish. >> fisherman have a plan to hope boost the salmon. the fisherman would receive 80,000 baby salmon and keep them in pens in the ocean not far from the harbor. after several days they will be released into the ocean
