october 4th, i am pam cook. let's check weather and traffic steve, what is out there? it looks to be giving way but still areas have light drizzle or rain, mostly cloudy skies and the next system will not take long to get here. i don't expect much of a break as clouds are already increasing. a stronger system comes in tonight. more on your traffic is sal. interstate 880 traffic looking good coming passed the coliseum no major problems there. also traffic looks good if you are heading on the sunole grade heading south. a shooting outside a hayward apartment complex, kraig debro is there at the scene and hayward police are now asking for your help in finding the gunman, good morning. >> reporter: police do not have any witnesses to this crime and they do want the public's help.

behind me one lone squad car and i was told this morning people in the apartment perhaps maybe witnesses know something about the case and police are sitting on that apartment. we got here early this morning but this happened last night at 8:45 which is where police said they had several calls from neighbors -- or rather, in south high ward. police say -- hayward. police say they found a man in a driveway and paramedics were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. there is a couple of people we just saw come back in the hayward police car in the back seat, i ascended to talk to them -- i attempted to talk to them but they didn't want to talk. police are just learning from the person who lives here that actually the body was found just a couple of yards up the

street so we will look into that and see if we can find out exactly when and where that happened. reporting live kraig debro ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police are investigating a deadly pedestrian accident. it happened at mission where an unidentified man was hit by a car at 7:00 last night. he later died at the hospital and no word on whether the driver will be charged in this case. oakland city council may impose a citywide curfew. they will talk about the possibility which would restrict all teenagers and children under the age of 18 from being on the streets after dark. city council is expected to consider an expansion of gangs and junctions. that begins at 6:00 p.m. we are waiting for a big announcement from apple and allie rasmus is in cupertino to talk about what apple is

expected to unveil. it is definitely creating some buzz, allie rasmus? >> reporter: we are live where this announcement is not supposed to happen for another four hours but any time they make this announcement, it is highly orchestrated choreographed event and that's the front of the building where everybody will enter for this announcement. there are apple employees already inside getting fed up. out here in the parking lot they have a virtual highway of cones designating where everybody is supposed to be. to our right they have taken up an entire section of the parking lot of media trucks and there is a national media setting up preparing to report on this announcement. there has been no confirmation from apple of exactly what they are announcing this morning. however all signs are pointing

to unveiling a new iphone, but what kind of iphone, could it be an iphone 5 with an edge to edge screen? some are so involved in all the rumors and reports about what this iphone will look like that some have made markups of what they think the iphone 5 will look like. this is actually one, you can see in this picture, there is a picture of the iphone three and 4 of what they think it will look like. it will have a tapered rounded edge but again none of that is official, apple will not confirm what they are announcing at this conference later on this morning and we will have to wait until 10:00 this morning to see. live in cupertino, allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. solyndra investigation shows the white house was warned about the company's

financial stability way before bane result i. it shows -- bankruptcy. it shows e-mails advising president barack obama to reconsider his visit to the company last year. one warning came from steve westerly and he said if it was too late to cancel the visit to solyndra the president should be careful about making unrealistic forecasts if the company quote files for bankruptcy. a new campaign by the travel industry is aimed at blocking the obama administration's call to raise fees for airline tickets. we will have predictions of doom by the airlines if those fees are imposed. planning to get you through airport security a lot quicker starts today at a handful of airports but there is a catch. the security administration is

the toll plaza it is just about to changeover. it usually changes when the media lights come on. it is wet all over the bay but the traffic is light. let's go to steve. some of rainfall totals, not too bad. day of vend port -- davenport had a half inch, and the city picked up 18 / 100th. there were higher amounts in higher elevations. usually they are the leader of the pack, 1.7 and mendocino had an inch and a half. santa rosa 56 / 100th and kent in west santa rosa it's good to

now president barack obama is pro poeting another fee and the airlines are launching a campaign to actually stop it, allison? >> reporter: that's right president barack obama's plan means passengers would pay a few dollars more with tickets to help governor sarah palin pay down the national debt and pay for security improvements at airports. they call for the $2.50 per person fee to go up to $5 topping off at $7.50. he also wants to i am prose a 1 -- impose is $100 fee for every lanes for every take off. republicans originated the idea but now the president is taking it too far. they are launching an aggressive campaign to stop it. stop air tax now.com. the president's plan will cost thousands of jobs next year alone and force regional

this is them handling away the marijuana plant as part of the ratification. they found the plans in five colluded areas in the open -- secluded areas in the open reserve. they have a street value of $1.5 million. well a new report is out showing thousands of cases of prescription drug abuse among medicare recipients. they say thousands of medicare patients receive prescriptionels from several doctors for 14 frequently abused medications in 2008 for example, a medicare patient in georgia got prescriptions for 3600 pain pills from 58 different doctors. that is more than four-year supply. prescription drug abuse is a growing problem for all types of insurance plans.

for the public's help. there is a squad car sitting outside this apartment, taking the 880 ramp, i want to show you down the street, this is actually where the body was found, see that lamp, the driveway is where the body was found last night around 8:45, police have been out here had several calls that somebody was shot and that there was a body lying in the driveway and when they arrived they found a man in the driveway, paramedics were called, fire department was called here but they tried to revive the person but they were not able to do that. all they have on the person is that he is an adult male, no age, certainly not an i.d. and we need witnesses and we just saw a couple of people return to this address in front of the house, the apartment 45 minutes to an hour ago. we are not sure if they were witnesses or if thtried to

winner. >> reporter: they have been fielding calls from all over the world, colleague scientists everybody offering him congratulations and we are here at his home in the berkeley house where we have been speaking to him all morning long. he received the phone call at 3:00 a.m. he and his wife were dead asleep and they were informed that the uc berkeley professor had received a nobel prize. it was not a hoax and they made the discovery in the late 1990s he and his team found evidence of the excel racing -- accelerating expansion of the universe. >> it has to be the longest drawn out wow in the history of exploring it but at that point it's not as much as a surprise

in session for its new term, justices are about to hear a very important privacy case which could have consequences on items in the bay area. they will look to see whether they can use a gps device to track a person without a warrant. this man says fbi agents secretly tracked him with a gps device after somebody called him a national threat last year. here is a look at some of the other cases before the high court. justices will be deciding about the medicare program and who has the rights to sue over the program in federal court. justices will also take up the constitutionality about president barack obama's healthcare reform and another case involves the ban on profanity and nudity on television. well a first of its kind law is about to hit the books

in san francisco and we'll see how the cell phone industry is fighting back on this which is coming up in about ten minutes. amanda knox is making her trip home after an italian court acquitted her of murder. where is amanda knox right now? >> reporter: well pam being i can tell you she boarded a plane from roam to london and she will land in seattle around 3:00 to 6:00 later today so clearly the much anticipated homecoming of amanda knox finally coming true after four years of a hard fought legal battle, an emotional rollercoaster for the family but finally she is coming home after being in prison for four years in italy. >> reporter: do you know if the case will now drop, i assume

what i heard was the meredith kercher family and prosecutors could take it to the supreme court there in italy to appeal it. >> reporter: yes, pam, we are told an italian prosecutor has made the appeal on whether or not the court will hear the case is the big question but clearly the legal battle may not be over for the amanda knox family but certainly it is a difficult road to go down with this other appeal process to try to overturn yesterday's ruling. now as far as the meredith kercher family, they are very concerned that there is somebody out there that has to pay for the death of meredith kercher and clearly the family is not happy but they say some day they hope they will get justice. now we are expected to hear from the amanda knox family at least her parents when they touchdown here in seattle.

month. in the richmond district this after an officer shot and killed a man who stabbed his parents. it happened in balboa yesterday morning. now police say the man came at them with two knives as they were trying to pull his bleeding mother to safety. the 78-year-old woman died in the hospital and his father is expected to survive. the community meeting will be at the richmond avenue exit between richmond and california. sal, what should they know first. one thing they should know is it is going to be wet out there and in fact we are expecting more rain for this evening's commute and steve will be along to tell you more about that. i want to show you traffic is slow and there is some drizzle out there, highway 4 slow

starting in antioch and most of the way will be slow with just a couple of breaks as you drive over to interstate 680. and the backups with typical delays nothing unusual. this morning we told you about the accident on willow avenue and we didn't know much more about it, it turns out there was an injury crash but they were able to slow it to the right side but people may slow as they look. if you are driving on 880, it is slow all the way to union city. hey, drizzle, not only sal, a lot of cloud coverage and the next system is turbo charged, it is flying down and it is already starting to increase clouds in the north bay. if you have any plans for this
