"mornings on 2" starts now. well, good morning to you. i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's wednesday, october 5th. we're following breaking news in cupertino. that's where multiple people have been shot. santa clara sheriff deputies confirm two people are dead and four are ininjured -- ininjured

-- injured. tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: that's right. over here, we have tons and tons of media. over here to the right is the intersection where they blocked everything off. this is foothill and stevens creek road. you can see the helicopters up in the sky and down this street is where we just saw more s.w.a.t. teams going on. the company reportedly has a radio and is monitoring how often law enforcement come and go. this is stevens creek quarry. it's about a mile from where we're standing. we are been told a worker for lehigh, the company that makes cement, that's the shift changeover, he opened fire and killed two people and wounded several more. we talked to family members would are standing by waiting for word. one of them told me their

father works inside, very hadn't -- they haven't heard from them. we're told that there are about ten workers who attended that shift change -- change meeting. this is a very law enforcement area that law enforcement has to cover. lehigh stay it's about a ten- mile radius there. there are a lot of mountains and ground to cover. a lot of different type of terrain. two sheriff deputies just sped away from the scene. i don't know if you could remember them. now, they've evacuated the entire grounds. we just saw all of the rock trucks leaving and -- here they come. there's some people coming out. if you take a look, they are honking and moving the stuff over. this is all happening right now. we saw two cars speed away and now these sheriff deputies look

like they are in a rush to get somewhere. we don't know if they have caught the gunman or what's going on. but we will, of course, stay on top of this and let you know what we find out. live near cupertino, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> do wino anything about this gunman? was he an employee? >> reporter: he definitely had to be an employee because nobody is allowed on the grounds unless you are a worker. there's very high security we're told. we definitely know he was a worker. a lot of the workers say they are paid very handsomely. they don't really know anybody unhanpy at work. it would be -- it could be domestic. at this point we really don't know. >> any sign of family members showing up? relatives? have you seen anything like a that -- anything like that?

>> reporter: yes. right where the green suv is, i was speaking to those two girls. they could be at the hospital. we're not sure. they are not hearing anything. they are very concerned. they are not getting any sort of communication and sheriff deputies are not able to answer their questions either. a lot of activity going on there at the scene. we just saw an officer peel out and fishtail. he's in a hurry and the roads are still slick. >> reporter: and it looks like sunnyvale police have arrived on scene. a lot of law enforcement here. this is really quite a zoo. you know, you can see the traffic backed up on the left over here. if you need to get through this area, i would avoid it.

>> reporter: good morning, dave. one right behind me. you can see a tree fell down. that fell down a couple of hours ago. they kind of pushed it off inside. the rain has stopped for now. in the last half-hour, it was really starting to come down here, people throwing on their windshield wipers, pulling out their umbrellas. we want to show you some pictures from sausalito, 2:00 this morning. it looked like a storm drain got dogged up -- clogged up. 3, 4 inches. not a lot but enough to cause a mess and firefighters were cleaning that up. this is south of the toll plaza on 101 headed in the city this morning at 5:00. then we went into san

francisco. we found there downed power lines, a power pole knocked out power initially to 700 pipe. at 400 at last count were supposed to come in in about an hour. coming back out here live to san francisco, take a look at the sky. you can actually see the clouds moving i long here. a little bit of patchy blue sky. we know this is not over yet. steve paulson is in the weather center watching it for us. >> claudine, that's true. we have showers moving through. it looks like it already went flew the city. along oakland and the 880 corridor. the system has moved out rapidly. some of the rain totals over 2 for many.

>> it is really cool. santa rosa, 48. it will be a brisk day. if you have any breeze, that just compounds the problem. there is a line norming it looks like stretching off from the golden gate to the east bay. that will continue -- that will continue to the peninsula in the next couple of hours. maybe some thunderstorms, hail, some partly cloudies but more rain. high pressure is on its way. it will be here soon. i think we'll get some 30s in wind-protected areas in the north bay. it starts to come down. and with your -- with your weekend view -- we have a lot of breaking news.

we have more breaking news in santa clara county, some sort of an incident is going in the parking lot of a business here. we do have -- one person has been injured. newschopper2 is there as sheriff deputies from a first incident in cupertino rushed over the scene here in the parking lot on quail avenue in san jose -- i'm sorry, in sunnyvale. newschopper2, can you show us the main street here? i just -- there's the main street. they see a lot of police activity here on this main street. again, near quail avenue. it's unclear what was going on.

we found out about this because we were in the sky looking at the situation at the cupertino shooting. all of a sudden, a lot of the officers there took off with lights and siren and we followed them here and this is just developing news. we're trying to figure out exactly what's going on. this is another license situation with plenty of -- this is another breaking news situation with many police officers here. democrats are working to remove provisions that the president recommended to pay for the jobs bill and substitute a tax increase on millionaires. president obama has been remanding for the past three weeks that congress pass his jobs bill without delay.

7:17. well, veterans of the wars in iraq and iraq are having a really difficult time to adjusting to civilian life. more than veterans of the past. alison burns is live in our washington, d.c. newsroom with a new survey that came out today that reveals how post 9/11 vets feel about the wars. >> reporter: a survey shows just half of them said the afghanistan war has been worth fighting. 44% feel that way about iraq. 40% of the veterans said they had difficulty adjusting to life at home. and 37% said they suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. the survey also shows 83% of veterans do not believe the

well good morning to you. welcome back. police in san leandro want to question the promoter of a weekend party where three people were shot to death. it happened early sunday morning in a parking lot less than an hour after -- after the party was over. two gunmen opened fire on a car that killed three people and injured several others. the party promoter is identified as oscar edwards, also known as d.j. truth. investigators believe edwards has information about the people at the party. but so far, police have not been able to track him down. 7:24. a man suspected of being involved in a shooting spree on two freeways has been arrested. the shootings on monday left one driver wounded and a bullet

buildings and terrain at the quarry. it's an area that covers a ten- mile radius. they have evacuated the quarry. we saw several patrol cars speed off, about a a half an hour ago. let's take a look at this video. we're not sure if this incident is related but law enforcement were aided -- were headeded to another shooting several blocks away near homestead. one person was shot in the parking lot. we believe that sheriff deputies have converged upon the suspect who is apparently hiding out across the street in a backyard. but we're not sure if those incidents are related. we have a report coming on the scene. but again, eight people have been injured. two possibly injured. it looks like we have the dogs on the scene -- i don't know if they are law enforcement dogs.

boys ranch about 7:00. they left in a car that was waiting for them. there was no description of the vehicle. last month, four teenagers walked away and the boys held at the facility are generally nonviolent. but last month, one boy had a violent past. police captured the three tens a day after they escaped. a third boy was found in a.m. county a few years later. los angeles supervisors extended this until january 15th. in another v, a judge ruled that stow's children cannot be added -- added to a civil suit.

shift change and the woker had a shot gun and rifle, opened fire, wounding at least six people there. he drove off. they've evacuated the quarry and several blocks away we saw several patrol cars earlier this morning speed off. that was about -- i think it was 7:00. again, we're not sure if this incident is related. but law enforcement were basically headed to this other shooting in the parking lot of hewitt packard. we understand a woman was carjacked, shot in the leg. we understand he's been jumping across fences over yards. he had been hiding out in one yard. they are trying to catch him. he took off in the woman's van which is only described as dark in color. you can see some people in business suits that are

earlier shooting this morning in cue per tu know. ktvu's claudine wong is -- cupertino. claudine wong is there now where they think the suspect is hiding. what's happening right now? >> reporter: well, a very tense situation on homestead. we see a lot of armed police officers taking a stand outside of the home. we don't have a lot of information. the deputy said, look, if you don't have any body armor on, i would stay back. so we're staying back a good distance because they certainly -- we don't know what information has led them to focus on at this point. i can tell you that we took a drive into this area and saw several streets blocked off, with police officers at every street and at every street weaponings -- weapons out ready. obviously, they want to track down this gunman.

they believe his name is holeman. they believe he carjacked a vehicle came here to the parking lot where there there was a victim. i want to show you some video that we soo -- that we got from the scene as it develops. you can see a victim in the parking lot. we're told that her injuries are not life-threatening. the elementary schools are open. there is a shelter in place. several blocks, again, blocked off in and around homestead here in cupertino and they work this scene and try to make sure it's secure and safe for everyone. this has been one of these static situationing we're not gonna show you where the police officers are at this point. we don't want to give away any kind of tactical information as they try to capture this gunman but again, i can tell you that

they are foe -- that their focus appears to be on one area, one central area. we do know that the suspect is apparently gunned with a handgun and a rifle. we want to show you a picture of the suspect that we have gotten into our ktvu channel 2 newsroom. again, this is the man police believe is responsible for the work shooting at the quarry. he's a disgruntled worker. we've seen some activity -- again, we're not gonna show you the exact location -- but it appears there's some activity out here on homestead. what we're gonna do at this point is keep an eye on the situation. again, when it comes to these types of situations. we want to be very, very careful that we don't compromise any of the work that the police officers in law enforcement are doing out here in this effort to security this neighborhood and get this suspect into custody. we're gonna keep an eye on the

right now, police have surrounded a home in sunnyvale. look at these pictures. they believe the suspects in two separate shootings this morning is hiding there. they say he shot a -- at the cuptertino quarry plant and at least two of the victims have died. now, ktvu's tara moriartys had more information. >> reporter: the gunman is still on the loose. if you look behind me, you can the sheriff's deputies are taking down every license plate and asking everyone and monitoring who goes in and out of the grounds right now. now, we do have a picture, a name and a picture of the suspect. let's take a look. he's described at shareff ailman. he's between 45 and 52 years old. 6'2".

we think he lives in san jose. at 4:30 this morning, authorities say he shot eight people at the lehigh quarry rock and cement plant where he works as as load operator. we asked the deputies how he was able to escape the ground with so many lawsuit armed. >> -- law enforcement around. >> according to the witnesses, there was enough time for him to. >> and shoot and get to this location -- for him to go and shoot and get to this second location. >> reporter: now, we did speak with family members. he said he was hiding out. they just got word he's okay. [ crying ] >> reporter: obviously, very emotional for a lot of the family members who have been pressing law enforcement out here trying to find out where their loved ones are. we were told, there were 15 people hiding out on the

ground. those people have been moved to the fire department. ears have been taken to nearby hospitals. just to recap, authorities believe that allman was disgruntled and opened fire at a safety meeting. we don't know if he fled immediately or stuck around the lehigh quarry grounds. but his description matches that of the suspect that's being hunt down right now over at the hp pal area and with more on that we're gonna join claudine wong who did give us an update. >> reporter: well, tear you are a still-developing situation. we're at holme stead. this is the line that -- hole stead. this is the line that divides cuptertino. if you go out to the left, you can see some gates. that's where the police say -- that's where police say the suspect ditched his car and that's where a woman was shot in the leg. she's gonna be okay. what happened then, the suspect left the parking lot and fled

into sunnyvale, literally across the street. this is where police have been phone cussed on the entire time we've been here and most of the morning you can see that s.w.a.t. team pulling out of that driveway. at one point, all of the drives were lined up against the car. within the past hour, police officers walked away from the house close he -- closer to the home and they came out and they've been regrouping. we don't know what happened, if they went in and didn't find him in there. we do know however that it looks like they are changing tactics at this point. i can tell you much of this neighborhood is lock -- is blocked off for about two, three blocks into the subny vail area. this entire area to the side on the sunnyvale side of this hp
