that gunman remains on the lose at this hour. the man accused of killing three coworkers and injurying several more at a cupertino quarry was shot today. >> reporter: the ordeal isn't quite over yet for this neighborhood. the quarry has just confirmed it was almond who was shot and killed today. >> reporter: a loud string of gunfire brought a wave of law enforcement units to lauren way. the man on the ground was almond the focus of a three hour man hunt. about 30 hours ago the santa

clara sheriff's department gave us this surveillance video shows a gun toting almond and confirmed two investigators he was in the homestead area. it led to a massive search culminates this morning when three sheriff's deputies saw almond crouched behind a car. >> they saw the suspect and they fired. we believe he displayed the firearm in a threatening manner. a woman carrying a baby was one of several family members who lived at the house. one said they did not know almond but they alerted homeowners that the suspect was in their driveway. >> we figured it was gone at this point. i'm more relieved now. i'm sure my wife is even more relieved. >> reporter: the suspect's death will make it difficult to find out what he did after leaving the lee high plant and how he illuded the search.

>> we will continue to talk to neighbors, to friends, to acquaintances. >> reporter: back live you can see activity still going on. public safety is now investigating this as an officer involved shooting case. live in sunny vale, robert handa, ktvu channel 2 news. there may have been warning sign that is violence was on almond's mind. maureen naylor is live now at the quarry with new details and what the company told her for the first time about the tragedy. >> reporter: this afternoon the road up here to the lee high cement plant opened up. someone has since placed some flowers, a bouquet of flowers at the front. tonight we spoke to one friend who says almond told them. >> he said that they were racist at the place and that they were going to try to end

his livelihood and that, that it wasn't going to go down that way. and that if they were going to end his livelihood he was going to end theirs. >> reporter: she came to the latest sunny vale crime scene and said the san jose father had a permit to carry concealed weapons and that almond feared he was losing his job. >> the severance pay being taken away from him that he was going to do some damage basically. that if he was going to go out, and he was going to kill some people that was going to happen to him and his family. >> reporter: the company is not releasing almond's work history. a company executive said almond had not been fired and there were no plans to do so. adding the cement company

strongly insists racism was not a problem. now the plant remains closed and remained closed all day as sheriff deputy remains parked outside tonight. the company does not expect the plant to open tomorrow and today says they expect to be paying for the employees salaries during the closure. >> also the this afternoon lee high hanson released a statement saying our first priority right now is taking care of our people. we are working closely with grief counselors and making sure our employees are prepared to deal with this terrible day. family and friends are mourning the three lives lost in that quarry shooting. the mother of 59-year-old mark nunez said the quarry was his home away from home. >> he really loved his job. he said he had met a lot of nice guy, you know. and he said that he said mom, those guys are wonderful he says. he said my boss has been good to me too.

>> reporter: just a few miles away the vallejo's family is also grieving. 59-year-old john vallejo was killed and his brother jesse was wounded in the attack. >> i love you mi hijo and i'm going to miss you so much. and i know you're in a better place. >> reporter: jesse vallejo is reported as being in good continue tonight. the other victim was manuel pinon from newman. we have raw video of an interview with a quarry worker. just look under the tab quarry rampage. a spokesman tells ktvu there were four reported burglaries on monday and three the week before. they were all in the same area north of cutting boulevard near arlington boulevard. in a couple of cases homeowners

this afternoon san jose police say they are treating the death of a woman found yesterday as a homicide. police have not released the cause of death for casillas. she was last seen getting into a blue chevrolet tahoe or grand prix. during a white house news conference the president said the fremont solar manufacturer received the loan on its merits. congressional republicans have accused the white house of wasting millions. people fed up with wall street were left out in the

street in san francisco. early this morning police oversaw the removal of tents and signs from the front of the federal reserve building. occupy sf protesters say crews took their food and shelter but they are vowing to stay. this afternoon a different group held a rally outside the federal building, their demands went beyond finances. many called for troop withdraws from iraq and afghanistan. calls to reform wall street were heard. the california nurses association sent it members to the occupy sacramento rally and set up tents, police say the rally was peaceful. americans were encouraged by better than expected earners by target, nordstrom and

macy's. the nasdaq gained 46. the blue angels made their presence known other san francisco. the navy team practiced over the bay as onlookers came out to watch. the blue angels are spectacular but pilots say the small unlimited aeroba to the atic -- aerobatic planes pack the biggest punch. john fowler has the story. >> i got the greatest job above the earth. i get to dive in the arena and share the magic of flight. by tumbling and twirling and spinning. flight is about celebrating freedom. today i got to join the celebration in team oracle's extra 300. we fly out of san carlos airport to just west of santa cruz. >> i get to practice three time

p.m. both days. it was a wet and wild day around the bay. bursts of heavy rain scattered across the region here. umbrellas weren't even enough to keep folks dry during this downpour in downtown san francisco this morning. our chief meteorologist bill martin is here now with what we can expect next, bill. >> reporter: san francisco nearly a half inch of rain on this downpour. it really came down early this morning. some folks didn't see any rain. others up to a quarter to half an inch. right now we have the showers moving out of the area. they rapidly, i mean we're clearing quick. when we go to the live buoy reading i have northwest winds at 22. so that's a wind direction like this. in a northwest winds is a clearing wind. that's the only way the instability is blowing out of the area. things are changing around. but what is going to happen is that cold air pulls in tonight it's going to be one of the coldest mornings of the season. especially in the north bay. freezing, no? frost maybe from forestville. certainly temperatures like we've seen this season.
