target certain types of operations, the big ones, the commercial operations spanning over a large area. they are also going to target those near schools and parks, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you claudine. the labor department reported this morning the nation's unemployment rate remains unchanged. the jobless rate stayed at 9.1% in september, the nation also added 103,000 jobs. while that is more than analysts predicted it includes 45,000 verizon employees who returned to work following a strike. economists say the u.s. needs at least 125,000 new jobs a month just to keep pace with population growth. a group of protesters remain camped out in downtown san francisco. they belong to the group occupy sf, which is part of the nationwide movement against economic inequality. you see pictures there from early this morning. last night police moved in and

broken up the encamp piments ment outside the bank but some of them returned. the city of san jose may give the boot to protesters there. the city attorney stays demonstrators are free to exercise their free amendment rights -- first amendment rights however it is illegal to camp out there overnight. police arrested about 19 occupied protesters this morning who had camped out across from city hall. police had ordered the group to disperse. members did not have a permit to rally and had camped out for the night. the protesters plan an even bigger demonstration later today. we are learning more about the final days of steve jobs, he

hired walter issackson to right his life story and know he was in great pain in the weeks before his death. he slept downstairs because he wasn't strong enough to climb stairs. through the biography he wanted his children to know him better and understand why his time- consuming work prevented him from spending more time with them. the book entitled steve jobs will be released on october 24th, a month ahead of schedule. it is already a smash hit on amazon and apple's on line store. tributes continue to pour in for jobs, not only are fans still contributing to memorials across the world but they have declared dress like steve jobs day. ahead a ktvu camera was there this morning as students learned about a disturbing incident. and the weekend looks like a great one weather-wise, rosemary has the details for us

a train carrying ethanol derailed and exploded, forcing the evacuation of a small town just west of chicago. so far that have been no reports of injuries. extra police are patrolling the san francisco state university campus today after the assault on an 18-year-old student. they say it happened at the towers resident hall last friday. the victim told police that she got separated from friends heading to a party at that dorm. a guy who seemed friendly called to her from and open elevator saying he could take her to the party. they went to an upper floor and he raped her inside an empty dorm room. >> it seems like how the guy said it though, he was so confident, you can come with me, i know where you are going, that was kind of weird, she should have said okay, well you -- i don't know why she went with him. i can't say, i don't know, i wasn't in that situation but

that is frighting. >> the woman who attacked here is described as an 18 to 22 mixed race male with short hair. police are advising people heading to campus parties tonight to travel in groups. it was ten years ago today the u.s. invaded afghanistan. since the invasion began 9/11 mastermind osama bin laden has been killed, and the taliban have been forced out of pow power put the air and ground attacks continue along with the war price tag, estimated at $400 billion. 10 years ago democrats and republicans came together to approve the war. now they are coming together again to push for its end. >> this is a war that long ago became much more about money for the pentagon and defense contractors than about any real threat. >> where is our money going? afghanistan is widely considered to be one of the most corrupt countries in the

world. >> the u.s. has 100,000 troops in afghanistan right now with plans to pull 30,000 out by next summer and to end the war by 2014. a san jose state graduate student removed from a flight is now suing southwest airlines for discrimination. she is a u.s. citizen of pakistani decent and wearing her head scarf on a flight in march. she was talking on her cell phone and said i have to go because the plane was about to take off but the flight attendant thought she said it is a go. she was then taken off the plane. >> i have three daughters that i do not want them to grow up accepting dehumanizing treatment. i hope that with this lawsuit southwest will review their policies and will stop discriminating against people. thank you. >> she was able to catch the

next flight to san jose. she is seeking unspecified damages. southwest has apologized for the incident. did michael jackson take the sedative himself without his doctor's knowledge on the day he died? that question was at the heart of a technical cross- examination today in the manslaughter trial of his personal physician conrad murray. his lawyer went into detail with coroner toxicologist dan anderson, they contend he gave himself drugs his doctor didn't know about. they plan to introduce a recording of a police interview in which murray admits giving jackson a powerful anesthetic to help him sleep. a government task force that caused a big controversy in the past over new recommendations for mammograms for women may now have a new controversy for men. there are several reports the

u.s. preventative services task force will recommend next week that middle age men skip routine screenings for prostate cancer, several studies have questioned the benefits of the test. in 2009 the same government task force recommended that women should not start routine mammograms until the age of 50 instead of 40. san francisco's celebration of fleet week is now underway. we took pictures this morning of navy ships docked along the embarcadero, you will be able to tour them monday before they leave tuesday. of course, the blue angels are here performing tomorrow and sunday in air shows. tens of thousands are expected near the water front. also ten young cancer patients got a special ride on the bay this morning. u.s. coast guard took them and their families out on the cutter ashton, the children 8- 18 are patients at the children's hospital in palo alto. >> the kids love it.

rebound. our temperatures are anywhere from three to six degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. our winds light in the afternoon. coming from the southwest, seeing that here in oakland, a west southwesterly breeze in livermore and north questions early in san jose and light on the north bay, north- northwesterly breeze in santa rosa, southwesterly for napa. so rolling through the afternoon temperatures are going to feel pretty good. as we move through the weekend nicer, 64 in oakland, mid-60s san rafael, 65 napa, a chilly start but you can see we are feeling pretty good outside right now and with that sunshine it feels even better. satellite and radar view, this ridge of high pressure building that will keep that storm to the north of us and pleasant weather for the weekend and beyond and in fact could see warm weather next week. for the weekend dry, warmer than lately, 60s and 70s, some inland areas near 80, that may be about it. so it is going to be a great
