ktvu's janine de la vega live in san jose where the protesters say they are ready to be arrested if police try to move them. >> reporter: gasia, that's right. they are, we're here along these five tents that have been set to the side of city hall. during the day these people protest. they're taking a break right now but they say the city is wrong for trying to make them move at night. they're telling anyone who will listen that they are fed up with greed and corruption in america and they're garnering support from those driving by. >> for me to come down and be part of this movement is to actually support and give the frustration and the anger a face. >> reporter: these protesters call themselves occupy san jose. some are business owners, some are students, some are unemployed, while they demonstrate by day a portion of them have been spending the night in front of city hall. >> this is the tent i've been

spending the night overnight. >> reporter: police say they have been giving the group a grace period but they say the group is breaking the law. >> we cannot infringe on your first amendment right. but the problem arises when they're camping out in tents in front of city hall. that's a municipal violation. >> reporter: if the group doesn't clear out and take their tents by 11:00 tonight they will start issuing citations. and if it continues, arrests will be made. the group says they limited the at tents to five and kept them on the side of city hall. they're trying to negotiation. >> you can pay $100 and use that as a permit. we don't think permits are $250 an hour, we think extortion is $250 an hour. >> some say they will leave before police come out tonight, others say they will stay. coming up at 6:00 we'll tell you why this is being treated

differently. janine de la vega, ktvu news. protests in downtown san francisco today, this was the scene along market this afternoon. as members of occupy sf gathered once more outside the federal reserve bank. early yesterday police broke up an encampment of demonstrators saying it was a hazard. in sacramento about 19 demonstrators are out of jail and back protesting after being arrested this morning t. group camped out overnight at cesar chavez plaza. police say they did not have a permit to rally and did not disperse when ordered too. those protesters were released just hours later. we're getting word tonight that steve jobs has been laid to rest. a small private funeral was held earlier today but did not say where. apple has not released a report. the writer of steve jobs is

the small illinois town was evacuated today after a train carrying ethanol derailed and exploded. this happened about 100 miles southwest of chicago. the train was carrying 230 car. some of them set fires and caused explosions. no one was hurt. the cause of the derailment is still under investigation. we get lots of videos to our newsroom. and several that caught our attention tonight, is pictures of mountain lions in the bay area. >> reporter: this is the jasper ridge preserve. stanford students are here now along with researchers and they

are every day all day long. >> i had one in my backyard about two years ago, i called the police. >> reporter: when researchers first put cameras out on remote areas they never saw a single mountain lion. then they put them along roads and trails and got a surprise. >> they like the same roads and trails we like. you know, they just like them at different times of the day. >> i think what surprises me they use the trails as much as we do and we still don't see them. they really work hard not ton seen. >> reporter: mountain lions are here about 1/4 of a time. it could be one or more families. and they say the big cats fear us more than we fear them. not everyone buys that. >> they're bigger and stronger than we are, so what's the threat. >> reporter: experts say mountain lions must avoid being injured to advise to appear big

a major crack down is underway by federal authorities on the state's commercial pot industry. and several bay area businesses could be affected. in a press conference today the u.s. attorney for northern california said medical marijuana dispensaries are enabling criminal activity across the state. >> people are using the cover of medical marijuana to make extraordinary amounts of money. in short to engage in drug trafficking. >> reporter: ktvu has confirmed that metathrive is one of the dispensaries being targeted in this crack down. that's where our own allie rasmuss is standing by with what this could mean to dispensary businesses. >> reporter: this is the letter sent to metathrive. it's in a building that shares

the incidents of concussions among young athletes has risen. 66 hospitals that treated children for traumatic brain injury found in the past 10 years the number of cases rose 60%. most of the injuries were from bicycling and playing football. the rise may be due to the increasing popularity of those sports and that more and more coaches and parents are seeking treatment for their injuries. a new survey suggests for the first year, people are less overweight. some suggests increased public awareness campaigns may be behind the drop. the laguna hospital appears to be making a turn around in its new home. patients moved in to its new facility, since then the national ranking of that hospital has improved.

space shuttle challenger blew up. a bay area weather were sure feeling that quick turn around that our meteorologist had been talking about. >> looks like we'll hang on to that forecast. right now in the maps our live storm tracker 2, clear skies. and a bit of a breeze out there with winds right near the immediate coast from 10 to 20 miles per hour. here we go this weekend. as high pressure rebuilds, you can see the satellite and yesterday's storm building to the east. it will ensure the dry weather forecast. sunshine into the afternoon and warming up with a weak offshore flow developing. this kicks up for next week. for this weekend it begins to set up here. that means inland neighborhoods could be approaching 80 degrees as we head toward the second

half of the weekend. fleet week forecast. blue angels in town. we could have some patchy fog to start off the morning hours. clearing skies throughout the afternoon. temperatures right around the bay mainly in the mid- to upper 60s around 67 to 68 degrees. here is our forecast model we're calling it lower cloud cover developing near parts of the coast and parts of the bay. mostly sunny skies into the afternoon hours and temperatures not much of a range here from the 60s all the way to the 70s. warmest locations around 78 to 79. we could start to warm up today. that trend will continue as we do head into your saturday. san jose mid-70s just beautiful. fremont right around 73 and san francisco in the upper 60s. this is typically the time of year we're talking about high fire danger. not the case this weekend because we had the recent significant rainfall. your weekend always in view. temperatures warming up slightly for sunday but gasia

i enjoy it the most when i'm with sidney. she doesn't notice that it's too crowded or that it can run a half hour late. i'm bevan dufty, and i'm running for mayor because it's not enough to just "get it done"-- we have to get it done better. sidney thinks muni is magic. we go underground and come out someplace new-- just us. i want all of us to see it that way.

doesn't cover my kid's pediatrician. which is not cool. she was so fantastic. she had this sock puppet that she would use to explain exactly what she was doing and why she was doing it. i just wish there was someone to explain to me how i'm going to find another doctor like that.
