lows are much, much cooler. down in the 50s for many. good to go for sunshine today. look like 70s and then low 80s. here's sal. >> good morning. you're looking at san rafael. this is a look at 101/580. traffic looks good. also this morning we're keeping an eye on the golden gate bridge where traffic is light. 6:00. let's go back to pam and mike. taking their message to the streets. in about one hour the occupy movement in san francisco will march through the city's financial district. craig debro has been talking to demonstrators and joins us with the latest. >> reporter: many of you have may have heard that the occupy wall street crowd in new york city marched on the upper east side near some people's wealthy homes. right now everybody is camped out, i guess you could say, sleeping in front of the

federal reserve bank here across from the hyatt regency. but pretty soon, about an hour from now they will be walking up the street to wells fargo headquarters. now, one of the people organizing this march today is part of a coalition of groups. they say they chose wells fargo because wells fargo took tarp money. when any repaid it, basically, repaid the federal government, they -- normal people didn't get any of the benefits. wells fargo took 25 billion in tarp funds. they were among one of the last banks to pay that back. this morning people from here are going to march to wells fargo to show their displeasure. they say they are part of the 99% you have heard so much about. 99% of the people in the country make 1% of the income. later at 7:00 they will do that march. people here marching with this coalition are blaming the big banks. >> a lot of organizations that are participating today are working directly it many

families that have been hit very hard by in economic crisis, whether it be through foreclosure of their homes, whether it be through a loss of job, unemployment. >> reporter: these protests around the country are being put on by people from all different walks of life. one change out here in market street from last week is, is there is no tent cities out here. people are not being allowed to put up tents on the street or sidewalk. they are allowed to sleep over there. that's where about probably three to four dozen people have been. the march takes place in about an hour from now. reporting live in san francisco, craig debro. >> and as craig was talking about, protesters with the occupy movement do plan to stage that rush hour march in san francisco. labor and community groups are expected to join that march through the city's financial district. john ab lows is expected to speak at today's events.

marren members will stage a protest outside of bank of america in san san rafael. this is youtube taken in santa cruz where two demonstrators tried to close their accounts last friday. bank of america's manager kicked them out. he says he has limited control but full accountability. oakland police chief anthony batts is stepping down after two years and the job. paul chambers talks about what led up to batts' decision. >> reporter: he made it official yesterday that he no longer wants to serve the city as its top cop. some people feel that the police chief has hayes hands tied because a lot of his choices were not supported. >> i think he is frustrated and i think he has a right to be frustrated. and so, you know, we are where

we are. >> no chief wants to be in a position where he or she has been held accountable but does not have the power to make a traumatic impact. >> ashamed of the fact that we have a person that wanted the job and wasn't given the tools to do it. >> reporter: now, last week at the city council meeting mayor kwan sent batts' proposal back to the committee. >> i didn't ask him to leave. but if he were to leave, this is a good time so that somebody else can move this next phase forward. >> reporter: now, chief batts listed some of his accomplishments were increased community policing and reduction in violent crime. in january there were rumors the chief was going to leave at that time. at 6:45 you will hear how he and the mayor dealt with that

issue at that time. live in oakland, paul chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. the u.s. state department has issued a worldwide travel alert for americans following the disruption of an alleged murder for hire plot against saudi arabia's ambassador to the u.s. >> the u.s. says iran was behind the plot. how high up the political ladder it goes is unknown. at 6:15 we will have a live report from our washington, d.c. room with the steps the obama administration is taking to hold iran accountable. president obama is vowing to continue the fight for his jobs bill after it failed a test vote in the senate. all 46 republicans in the senate and two democrats voted against advancing the jobs bill. in a statement after the vote the president said his bill contains proposals republicans have supported in the past. the president says he will now work with senate majority leader harry reid to break down the jobs bill into individual measures that can each be voted

on separately. two motorcycles in president obama's motorcade crashed into each other in florida last night. they were escorting the president from a fundraiser to the orlando airport when one police officer rear-ended a sheriff deputy's motorcycle. both men went to the hospital. neither was seriously hurt. overnight a bomb threat shut down parts of the mission campus of san francisco city college. police found two suspicious items on 22nd and valencia street last night. a bomb squad was called out. the site was eventually cleared. we have new information about bart's decision to shut down cellphone service at some san francisco stations before a planned protest. now, senior bart staffers debated the idea for less than 30 minutes on the morning of august 11. that's from a spokesperson who talked to the bay citizen. the paper obtained internal e- mails that show bart's deputy police chief saying he liked the idea and he asked if anyone

could think of a downside. the protests never materialized that day. pg&e is planning more tests on one of its natural gas pipelines today. the utility is scheduled to perform high-pressure water tests in san carlos from crestview drive. pg&e says some gas should be vented from the pipeline so people should not be alarmed if they do smell gas in that area. the pubilc utilities commission ordered pg&e to check its line after the san bruno pipeline explosion. back over to sal to check in on traffic. is it busy? >> it is getting busier, pam. it's not completely stop and go in many areas. but you can tell that it's heading that way. you can see highway 4 here westbound is going to be a little bit busy. it's stop and go already in antioch. this morning's commute is going to be a little bit slow on 680 as well and pockets from walnut

creek to the 24 interchange. let's move along at 880 in oakland, both directions the traffic is moderately heavy. and if you are driving on to the san mateo bridge, westbound 2 looks good. we look at the south bay here and the traffic on 17. looks good into the mountain down to the last gate owes area. 280 and 85 are off to a good start. 6:08. let's go to steve. >> mostly clear skies. i noticed some upper 40s towards the north by a west of santa rosa. ken wood is also in there. about 48, 49. i mean, that's a good 12 degrees cooler than yesterday. we have lost most of the cloud cover. a few high clouds in the north bay. overall, the cloudy, muggy pattern and off and on rain on monday an tuesday and a very cool pattern is replaced with sunshine. mostly sunny skies. not much of a breezy at all. it's taking care of whatever fog was there. only a few patches of fog. cooler lows, though. the napa airport is 50.

storm track jetstream is moving to the north. we're losing that mugginess that we had the last couple of days. low-to-mid 50s. that was not the case yesterday. it was all low-to-mid 60s. a few high clouds kind of skirting by to the north. patchy fog. napa airport says some patchy fog. if you encounter some tweet me. spweather. not much of a breeze. just a puff at fairfield at six. that's not much. overall, the pattern is taking all that cloud cover and sending it northward. there is a lot out there. in fact, streaming up from the hawaiian islands. seems to want to take aim together north and not us. i will keep an eye on it. light offshore wind. not much. warmer weather will kick in. some low-to-mid 80s today. i think we will top it out tomorrow. some upper 80s possibly in the warmer locations. today will be a few high clouds. compared to the past few days warmer and not as muggy. a lot of 80s on these

a santa rosa man facing misdemeanor charges after throwing a hot dog at tiger woods is explaining his actions. brandon kelly got the idea after watching the movie "drive." he says he wanted to do something epic and had hoped to remain anonymous. but after throwing the hot dog he was arrested. he is facing charges of disturbing the peace. new this morning, vice president joe biden is calling the iranian government's involvement in the assassination on a sawed

arabian ambassador. >> vice president biden said this morning nothing has been taken offer the table as the u.s. weighs how to handle the attempted assassination. this man was working with the revolutionary guard to try to get a hitman. federal officials say it's clear top rannian officials must have signed off on the plot. and now some members of congress are calling for a military response. >> the iranians have crossed the red line. if this had been carried out, you're talking about an act of murder carried out by a foreign government. >> the iranian government is denying any involvement. now the state department is focused on building what it calls an international chorus of condemnation. a closer look at the obama

administration's options now for dealing with iran during my next update in about an hour. now we're live in washington, d.c., alison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. well, new this morning the first pictures have come in from this morning's terrorist attacks in iraq. a string of car bombs targeted iraqi police throughout the country. so far 25 people are dead. dozens of others are injured. now, no one has claimed responsibility yet, but these attacks are usually the work of sunni militant groups such as al-qaeda. the bombings will likely increase concerns that iraqi forces will not be able to protect the country once the u.s. pulls out at the end of the year. political prisoners will be released today. 6300 detainees. the military has ruled the asian country since 1962.

it has denied for decades that political prisoners even existed. but it must now free detainees if it wants western nations, including the u.s., to lift economic sanctions. in a controversial move the city council in topeka, kansas voted to decriminalize domestic violence. last night's vote was in response to the announcement by the county's district attorney last month that he would no longer prosecute misdemeanors, including domestic violence, because of budget cuts. the council hopes to force the district attorney to continue to prosecute the cases. meantime, 18 people arrested for domestic violence since september have been released. today alameda county will host its first ever medication disposal conference. experts say the county needs to find way for residents to safely and conveniently dispose of old medications so they don't enter landfills or water ways. they hope to develop a policy

that will help drug makers include the cost of disposal in the drugs. they also want to identify laces where drugs can easily be dropped off. a prescribed burn is planned for the point lowes near carmel highlands. crews will begin at 10:00 a.m. as long as weather conditions are favorable. a group hoping to bring a pro baseball team to san rafael is asking the public to come up with a name for the team. they are upgrading albert park to accommodate a team from the independent north american baseball league. there is already the teak owe outlaws lake county fielders. we have set up a link for anyone with a suggestion. go to ktvu.com and click on web links. the independent journal and team will hold a vote for the

five journalists. winners will receive tickets as well as a jersey. back over to sal, check in on traffic. >> all right. pam and mike, good morning. it's getting busier. you can tell by looking at this shot that we have for you at the bay bridge toll plaza. it is backed up now for a 15 minute delay. it happened somewhat early. the metering lights are on. i don't see anything on the bridge itself. double checking to make sure we didn't miss anything. on the bridge the traffic is moving along nicely. no major problems getting into san francisco. also the morning commute looks good on interstate 880 in oakland near the coliseum. 580 is also looking pretty good here driving over to high street and then over to 980. this morning in antioch we have stop-and-go traffic coming out of brentwood in antioch. after that pittsburgh and bay traffic looks good. slowing in concord on 680. on the peninsula northbound 101 looks pretty good. he knew 280 at highway 92 there

is a traffic stop going on. i just heard that the driver is in a serious argument with chp officers. you know what that gets you? more chp officers on the scene. don't argue. 6:19. let's go to steve. >> not going to win that argument, sal. >> no. >> we have mostly clear skies. nothing compared to what we had the last couple of mornings. we had low and high clouds, it was muggy. we have a few high clouds. that's about it. some of the lows in the north bay are upper 40s and 50s. yesterday it was all 60s. san francisco, though, looking for a high of 76 today under mostly sneakiest. some of the higher clouds we are on the southern edge of the main part of the jetstream heading to the north. 50 at napa airport. santa rosa 52. a lot of mid 50s. fairfield at 53. i think that's down about 8 compared to yesterday. plenty of clouds will keep us

from being completely sunny. but that moisture source streaming up from the hawaiian islands want to stay to the north. sure looks like it. that's what we're going with. a few high clouds in the north bay. highs today 60s, 70s. temperatures will be warming up here as we lose the humidity factor. a little bit dryer air coming in. sunny to mostly sunny and warm into friday. your weekend always in view, still nice but a little cooler. today paypal is expected to announce a new program that will make online shopping easier. the online payment service is expected to unveil a way for shoppers to set up fewer accounts. it's called paypal access. it will let users log on to participating retailer sites and pay with their paypal user name and password instead of having to set up a new account on every site. san francisco-based zinga is introducing a new game.

if you are driving on highway 4 westbound you can see some slow traffic here up over the willow path grade. the nemesis of many drivers in this park. there are no crashes to report. only more slow traffic waiting for you approaching 680. he was the victim of a horrible crash. and now a san jose teenager's family says he has been victimized yet again. last week a thief sold 17-year- old juan parra's specially made bike. this custom bike is designed to build up his leg muscles.

this bike could help him walk again one day. >> who would do that to a person like me? knowing that i need it and they just stole it? heartless people. >> last year a car struck juan while he was crossing a street near his home. he spent two months in a coma and the accident left him unable to walk. a donation drive raised $5,000 to pay for this custom-made bike. san francisco is a big step closer to having a utility that would compete with pg&e. two city agencies have handed off the clean power sf plan to the board of supervisors. if approved shell oil company would run the program. it would provide electricity for 50,000 customers who would see their bills go up as much as $75 a month. this morning the victims of the san bruno pipeline disaster

will take another step towards rebuilding their devastated community. crews will remove the barricades placed around the city's crest more neighborhood. that city was at the center of last year's deadly explosion and fire that killed eight people and destroyed dozens of homes. the price of animal adoption in the south bay is dropping as shelters struggle to keep up with the number of pets being dropped off at their doors. i want to show you video from the san jose animal care center. it is the largest shelter on the west coast. since the beginning of this month the shelter has taken in 663 animals. >> now this shelter and five others in santa clara county are dropping their adoption rates from $115 down to just $10. and the price includes getting the animals spade or neutered and all vaccinations. at ktvu we have supposed a link to san jose's animal care shelter. you will find all the dogs and cats up for adoption.

of this occupy san francisco and basically occupy america. the march is going to begin about 30 minutes from now, and the march is being put together by a coalition of groups who deal with people, have had their homes foreclosed on. the parent leadership action network is one of them. we spoke with a representative of that group earlier this morning, and she told me why they are targeting wells fargo today. >> wells fargo has been a beneficiary of the bailouts and a lot of federal assistance. they have not been using that money to help people keep their homes. they have been foreclosing on many people's homes. >> reporter: now, you see one of the signs here from veterans, how is the war economy working for you? basically saying money goes to that but not people losing

their homes. wells fargo paid back about $25 billion probably about the end of 2009. but they were among the last banks to do so. again in about 30 minutes from now it will be a march up to the wells fargo headquarters, which is about market and montgomery. you might want to know that for several reasons. not the least of which is the traffic problems that it might cause. craig deb low, ktvu, channel 2 news. >> occupy movements will start in walnut creek, san rafael and palo alto. organizers say the big cities are not the only ones suffering in this current economy. >> the smaller towns are actually, as i mentioned to somebody,is the heart of the beast in many ways. it's where you see a lot of income and equality. >> in oakland dozens of tents

cover the lawn in front of citi hall. protesters include students, people out of work and business owners. they will be allowed to stay as long as the demonstration remains peaceful. well, visitors to golden gate park stow lake will see some upgrades over the next few months and it's kicking off today. tara more -- has a look. >> reporter: if you take a look behind me usee there are some boats underneath the platform. they will be launching the new fleet this morning. now, if you kind of turn around and take a look the boat house behind us, you see that repairs are still ongoing. there is still a lot of peeling paint. but piece by piece the new boat house is coming together. they have revamped the menu. health inspectors signed off on it yesterday. they will be replacing hot dogs with spring rolls and salvadorian pastries.

channeled the revolutionary spirit in new hampshire. the "san francisco chronicle" is endorsing supervisor david chu for mayor. the paper's editorial board says he projects an energy and commitment to shake things up at city hall. the chronicle believes the 41- year-old chu willen act changes and create jobs. chu is one of 11 major candidates running for mayor. correction notices are going out to some san francisco voters because of a printing error in polling place information. the department of elections says 115,000 voters received information phamphlets that incorrectly listed 31 house street as their polling place. the only voters who live in the area of geneva avenue and house street should vote at that location on election day. the family of a man who drowned at alameda's crown beach on memorial day could file a wrongful death suit

against the city as early as today. now, last night the city council reviewed an independent report on the death. critics say the investigation and reforms don't go far enough. 53-year-old raymond zach died on may 30 while police officers and firefighters stood along the beach and watched. >> they sent medical resources to stand by and were available on the shore in the event that the subject did come in or was able to come in. >> i apologize to you. i apologize to the community. you expect better. you deserve better. and from the police department you will get better. >> reporter: the death of raymond zach was completely preventible and a negligent homicide. >> since that death and in line with report recommendations alameda has bought two pontoon boats and resumed water rescue training. just about 20 minutes sal sent us that picture of the toll plaza. it already looked busy. busy all over the place right now, you say? >> yeah, it is. this is the time, mike, when

above, but nothing compared to the past couple of mornings when we had the low clouds. i mean, it was muggy. we had temperatures in the 60s for lows . it was a very cool pattern. even though it was muggy, it was cool. now that's all changing. higher clouds. only patchy fog. i can't find much. the lows are noticeably cooler. so a good ten degrees for some. it will be warmer, though, with 70s and 80s today under mostly cloudy skies. we will go 70 at noon and a high of 76 degrees. a few high clouds coming up from the southwest. not really going to do too much. just a little ban there. they are there. but the storm track jetstream is lifting northward. 50 napa airport. a lot of mid 50s. north by a a couple of upper 40s. i saw wen -- ken wood in there. fairfield at 53, that's a big difference compared to a couple

of hours ago. some of that moisture tap goes all the way back to the philippines. everything points towards this heading up to oregon and washington and staying out of our neck of the woods. that's what the forecast models say. high pressure building in and not really much of a breeze. there is really nothing i can see so far. temperature trend will be to take it up under mostly skies. higher clouds mainly to the north. overall, it's going to be mostly a sunny day. nothing like yesterday in the morning, that's for sure, when it was overcast and drizzly and kind of gray. that's not the case today. 70s and 80s on the temps. a lot of low mid 80s for some. 70s for others. alameda 76. sunny, warm along the coast for many. including 70s. 80s on the peninsula. tomorrow looks a little warmer. maybe a few high clouds and patchy fog friday. it will be mostly sunny but a

a new twist in the investigation of the cupertino quarry shooting. the santa clara medical examiner has confirmed that 47- year-old shareef allman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. investigators say the fatal shot came from alleman's own gun. he is accused of killing three co-workers and injuring six others at the lehigh cement quarry last wednesday. a recent series of home burglaries is prompting police hold a meeting in el cerrito tonight. at least three homes were burglar rised last week and most occurred during daylight hours. it begins at 6:30 p.m. at the arlington park clubhouse. giants fan bryan stow continues to make amazing progress. we want to show you a photo of
