the weekend forecast coming up shortly. here's sal. good morning. traffic is moving along well on northbound 280 up to highway 17 and beyond. and this morning, looking at southbound 680, that traffic looks nice. back to the desk. this morning, there is an important warning for students at san jose state university. we have been talking to police this morning and joins us now with more information. craig. >> reporter: yeah, pam, i just spoke with police again this morning and they were able to confirm that third sex crime in two days. i want to show you down the way here, one of the crimes happened near clark hall. near the tommy smith and john statue. a student walking on campus reported being groped by two men on wednesday night. she told police the man rode up on two bike, groped her and then rode off. and police put out a crime alert. it contained a description of

the two men. one wearing a white shirt and the other a purple shirt. after that alert went out, yet another victim contacted police to say the same thing happened to here around 7:30 that same night. this victim was near. at least one student here on campus is concerned. the freshman woman told us that she is concerned that there maybe should be more police patrols in the area, especially since these crimes have been reported. maybe the campus security should increase patrols as well. now a third person was the victim of a sex crime or at least a peeping tom-type crime. this woman, just yesterday around 3:35, she told police she was in a bathroom stall when a man came in and looked underneath the door. we are getting reaction all morning long from students. reporting live at san jose

state, ktvu channel 2 news. >> before you go, i'm curious, does the campus offer any kind of escort or security service that students can government accountability call if they need to go from somewhere late at night? >> reporter: typically, universities do. i'm not familiar with this university. i know uc berkeley has a system in place. we are down the street from the campus police we have seen a few patrol cars, not only on the streets, but drive onto the campus. but no, i don't know for sure, but i know that universities generally do provide that service. >> all right. thank you for that update. three people were displaced overnight. it started at about 11:30 at an apartment complex on visitation valley. officials say the fire may have been sparked on a stove. that home did not have a smoke detecher. a neighbor two noticed the smoke was the one to call the fire department. no one was injured. pg and e wants to replace hundreds of miles of pipes that send gas into homes.

there's a twist. usually the other way around. but that's not the case. 50s many the north bay. upper 50s and low 60s peninsula and south bay. a low will play into the cooling trend. and that will be on sunday into monday and tuesday. and the combination of those two factors will cool us down. but today good to go for sunshine and warm conditions. why not? that's hot. morgan hill, santa rosa. it will be warm to hot. fair and warm on saturday. cooler on sunday. still okay. it will be dry. no rain or anything. but a cooler pattern into early next week. >> thank you. well the state visit continues. where president barack obama and the president of south korea are flying to today after the formal dinner at that time white house last night. sales of video games were in a rut this summer. why the industry has reason to be hopeful of a rebound now.

welcome back to the morning news. time now 6:15. and republicans in congress are unvailing a jobs bill of their own. they are looking to roll back many of the initiatives president barack obama has passed in the last few years. >> reporter: pam, that's right. it's a dramatic example of the gulf that exists between president barack obama and republicans in congress. president barack obama's jobs bill that was defeated this

week was called the american jobs act. the gop bill is called the real american jobs act. it rewrites the tax code, calls for a cap on federal spending, a repeal of the 2009 health care reform bill and a repeal of the wall street reform and consumer protection bills that passed after the 2008 economic melt down. it also paves the way for more domestic oil production. >> right now, we are spending too much, borrowing too much, regulating too much and taxing too much. >> reporter: now democrats say they are not giving up on president barack obama's approach. senate democratic leaders say they are going to force votes on smaller parts of the president's bill including his controversial tax on millionaires. reporting live from washington, d.c., ktvu channel 2 news. president barack obama's re- election campaign has announced its latest fund raising totals. the campaign took in $70 million in the third quarter. that was more than the

campaign's goal of $55 million and more than the totals of any republican candidates. president barack obama and the president of south korea will travel to michigan today. they'll tour a general motors assembly plant. last night, president barack obama honored the leader with a state dinner at the white house. >> korea's success speakings to the truth that with education and hard work, anything is possible. the spirit our countries share. you described it in koreaen and in english it translates as yes, we can. >> they are also celebrating the new free trade agreement just approved by congress. both leaders say it will support jobs and help increase trade between the two countries. the new york times is moving to cut as many as 20 jobs in the news room. the times says it will seek byeout volunteers but no employee will be laid off. it is a cost cutting measure because of what the times calls a slowing advertising climate.

this will be the first significant staff reduction since the end of 2009 when about a hundred jobs were cut. union workers at ford could strike next week if a contract agreement does not pass. voting ins on tuesday. ford and the union reached a tentative agreement last week, but workers have to ratify it. under the agreement, most workers will get profit share checks instead of annual raises. some employees have said that they are upset that the contract keeps wages frozen. time now 6:18. sal, friday lite, or maybe just too early to go there? >> i think it may be too early, mike and pam. but we will see. right now, traffic is light. and we're hoping it's going to stay this way. not stop and go on highway 4. but already some stop and go traffic this morning. and this morning, look ago at the time commute at the bay bridge toll plaza. you see it's beginning to fill

monday. today, all systems go for sunshine and warm weather. the coast looks good. it will be warm to hot, not only inland, but also thinking the 84 in the city might be too low. but warm to hot with upper 80s to near 90 degrees. even 70s and 80s on the coast and we will continue on saturday. and then cooling down on sunday. and that will carry us into early next week. general electric is planning to build the nation's largest solar panel factory. they announced they'll build the facility many the denver suburb. it will be the size of 11 football fields. ge says the facility should produce enough panels to power 80,000 homes every year. and employee about 350 people. video game sales are rebounding. a new report shows september sales are up 4% to $630 million and that's god news in the industry after seeing four months of declines. however, saleses of games consoles are down, but analysts expect more growth into the

hollywood shopping season as big name titles are set to be released. not to be outdone by today's apple's iphone launch, google plans a big announcement next wednesday. they are unvailing the android ice cream sandwich. it's the first android version unifying phone and tablet operating systems. it was pushed back after the death of steve jobs. well it's been nearly a week since the raiders owner al davis passed away. the special three-day tailgate paying tribute. plus, cal may have lost last night, but the game turned out to be a big win for san francisco. and fans who traveled to the game. good morning. driving on westbound 92, that traffic looks good headed out to the high-rise. more about the commute coming up.

of his stand. the 58-year-old jose ortiz runs a stand on foster avenue. an undercover police officer started buying weapons from there back in april. a federal indictment claims he led authorities to his partner, a 23-year-old. he allegedly sold rifles, am mu nation and meth -- ammunition and meth from a street corner. police have arrested a man accused of assaulting a waitress and manager. part of the assault was caught on video. it happened in august. police say a group of intoxicated people were making noise at the restaurants so a waitress asked them to quiet down. police say that's when a 33- year-old threw sill ware at the waitress, cutting her face. police say he then punched the waitress, knocking her unconscious. officers say he left, but later returned and punched the

manager in the mouth. he was arrested last week. he is set to be arraigned next tuesday. well the cal bears may have lost on the football field last night, but the game was a big win for san francisco. tensover thousands of people packed at&t park for the game. the bears are playing their home games in san francisco while memorial stadium undergoes renovations. businesses near at&t park say they enjoy having the boost in traffic, especially since the giants aren't in the play-offs this year. usc fans say they love the location. >> it was just, a two-minute cab ride to the game here. they should do this every year. >> now unfortunately for cal and their fan, the bears lost 30-9. they have fallen to 3-3 overall and 0-3 many the pac 12. nba games may be delayeded

until after christmas if an agreement is not reached. the commissioner said there will be no basketball on christmas unless there's a deal on tuesday. the first two weeks of the regular season have already been canceled. raiders fans are hosting the nfl's longest tailgate beginning tonight in memory of al davis. davis dieded last saturday at the age of 82. the tailgate for charity starts at 7:00 tonight in mob alley. that's at the corner of 66th avenue and coliseum way. fans will stay out there from tonight until the game on sunday afternoon. the failure is back in the spotlight this morning. the focus on the latest congressional hearing in washington, d.c. welcome back to the morning news. ringing the opening bell in just a moment. and there it is. and sony pictures premiering the film "the mighty max." they are ringing the bell there. a lot of stocks to watch today. apple topping the list. looking to trade higher this morning as fans of the apple iphone waiting ow side for the new 4s. matel reports, google's third quarter earnings up strongly from last year. the gap is going to be closing 189 stores in north america. so a lot of stocks to watch. >> apple expected to sell 4 million of those phones today.

>> and beat the last sell. thank you for joining us right here. dave clark has the day off. >> good morning. i am pam cook. a daring overnight rescue of two women from a burning house in concord. we are live this morning in concord with the exclusive video captured by firefighters inside that burning home. >> reporter: that's right. well, when you think of fires and firefighters and rescues, you think they may happen all the time, but that's not the case. we're told it's pretty rare. so guys here were excited when they pulled two women out of a burning house alive this morning. one of the men who actually carried the woman out through the front door had a camera on his helmet. he was rolling on the entire rescue. and while it was dark and smoky, it gives you a sense of what it was like to be them. let's take a look. [muffled conversations ] >> where are you at ma'am?

>> the back bedroom. >> where is she? >> the bedroom there. >> i've got her right here. come with me, ma'am, let's go. >> reporter: frantic moments at 1:30 this morning two. elderly women were trapped in the bedroom of the home. crews were able to help one walk out and the other one they carried. the flames broke out many the home's attic and the smoke was so thick, police who had arrived on the scene first couldn't enter. we spoke to one firefighter who was part of the rescue. >> just to be there at the right time, have the right stuff in place and perform the rescue. two live people, a fire out, a win-win. >> reporter: crews say if they had arrived just 90 seconds later, the two women may not have made it out alive. we're not sure of if relationship between the two women, but we're told one was an ellerly woman and the other could have been her care taker.

no word yet on what caused the fire. but the video gives you a sense of what it was like to be there and how dangerous the job of fighting fires can be. ktvu channel 2 news. one person is many the hospital this morning following an apartment fire in oakland. firefighters responded to a two- story apartment building just before 9:00 last night. witnesses say crews rescued a young male who is now being treated at the hospital. no one else was hurt. the fire apparently started in the kitchen of an upstairs unit. a second unit also suffered damage. security will be tight at the high school in martinez today because of an anonymous email threat. on wednesday, school officials received a threat warning that something bad could happen on campus today. parents were notified last night. a blood drive scheduled for today has been canceled and investigators are trying to figure out who sent that message. we have uncovered new

information about this week's amtrak train accident in oakland. 17 people were hurt when one train crashed into another wednesday night. early reports indicate that one of the trains ran a red light signal, but one source tells us, it's possible that there was a switching error that could have caused trouble on the tracks. everyone agrees, it's still very early in this investigation. >> we looked for root causes whenever there's accidents like that. it's easy to blame the conductor or whoever is involved, but the bottom line is, there's usually more to the story than most folks might think. >> investigators plan to examine the train equipment, interview the crews on both design check all of the emergency communications tied to the crash. most of the passengers suffered bumps and bruises. the most serious injury is a broken arm. the first full day on the job for oakland's new interim police chief. yesterday the assistant chief took the oath of office.

jordan is a 23-year department veteran who has served as interim chief before. he will replace the chief who announced his decision to temperature down just three days ago. he says he is leaving the department in good hands. he has been my right hand. we have planned everything together. come up with plans. he's going to do a great job. >> jordan previously led the department in 2009 for almost eight months. city leaders say he could become chief on a permanent basis, but that decision won't be made for several more months. we're expected to learn more today about a deadly shooting rampage that killed eight people at an orange county beauty salon. hundreds of people are remembering the victims. [singing] >> more than 1500 people held a candle light vigil last night. it was inside that salon where police say a 41-year-old opened

fire wednesday afternoon, killing eight people. aamong the victims was his ex- wife. the couple were in court the day before the shooting as part of a custody battle over their 8-year-old son. he was arrested about a half a mile from the salon. in new york city, occupy wall street protesters are being allowed to stay for now. a plan to kick them out of a park to be cleaned was postponed this morning. protesters brought out their own mops and brooms to help clean up the park. they claim a scheduled power washing was a plot to actually evict them, but the owner says conditions are unsanitary. protesters took over the park nearly a month ago. well, it is black friday for apple fans that means they're shopping. the iphone 4s goes on sale in less than 90 minutes. the lines, we have been watching the lines. how big is it now?

>> reporter: there's at least a hundred people there. is the line that stretches half way down the block. the first person in line actually, and we have been talking about it all morning, the first person in line got here at noon yesterday and none other than the apple co- founder. you told me you've already pre- ordered. why did you want to be out here if and spend the night? >> i have been number one before for other things. actually, i don't know the experience of staying out at night makes it more deep in your heart, more valuable to you. this is, one of those events in life that's so important to me that i have to be here. and not just because i started am, it's because the products merit it. >> reporter: and what's your favorite feature of the iphone 4s? >> i have been speaking for one year about the most incredible app that i discovered that did a lot of things you didn't think it was did, and the one you talk to. and i just want to talk to all

my phones and devices rather than tap buttons when i can and i choose to do that. you're going to be amazinged. so much closer to like a live human. >> reporter: the voice command feature. ask the phone questions and it answers back. >> yes. and you don't have to phrase things exactly right or words in a certain order. all these little things when you're using your finger, tapping but thes on the, that's out the door and i love it. my mind feels like i have been released and i think this is the future of mobile computing and people haven't recognized it yet. everyone one of my friends, not one got it and started using to answer daily questions of life, how many bananas on a banana tree maybe. >> reporter: the co-founder of apple, the first person in line at this store to get his hands on iphone 4s. there are long lines for this

phone around the globe. we had video earlier of hundreds of people in japan waiting to get their hands on the new phone. and we have been to some of the other apple stores in the bay area. and this product, this iphone 4s has broken records for presale orders and just to let you know, if you haven't gotten the phone yet, verizon, sprint and at&t are reporting that they have sold out for pre- orders for some versions. >> we'll be there when they open. and similar scenes playing out in front of apple stores around the bay area. we're going to take you live to walnut creek. everybody has their blankets and coffee this morning. they have been waiting for the release as well. there are about a hundred people in that line as well. and we have been watching, they have been watching movies, playing cards and getting to

notch other. the first person in line claimed his spot almost 24 hours ago. one person who is not in line is sal. you jealous of these folks? >> yeah, i want the phone. >> did you pre-order. >> i didn't. but i want the phone. but this is what i usually do, if you can wait two or three weeks, still lines, but won't be that big. my old phone works fine. >> exactly. >> i don't know what's wrong with me. i don't like to stand in long lines. the commute, westbound highway 4, that traffic looks good. now, we are looking at slow traffic now stop and go traffic. it's not kite stop and go here, but it is not unfortunately friday in this portion of the world traffic-wise. take a look at north southbound interstate 880. that traffic looks good. a football game at the coliseum this sunday. the oakland raiders. and the cleveland browns.

good morning. a quick look at some of the top stories we are following right now. firefighters in concord rescued two women from a burning home overnight. police arrived onscene first, but heavy smoke kept them from going inside. the women were take on the the hospital. pg and e wants to replace 1970s era plastic pipes that

deliver gas to homes across the state. investigators say the pipes have a history of breaking and have led to fires including one at this condo back in august. and people are being asked to watch out for mountain lions after two recent sightings. one was spotted yesterday near browns valley elementary school. a second one was seen a few hours later. new this morning, nato forces announce that an international service member has been killed in an attack in southern afghanistan. the attack happened yesterday, but no other details have been released at this point. it is the ninth internationally military death since the beginning of the movement. in athens, greece today, traffic is a mess. it is the second day of a strike by public transportation workers so no buses or trains are running and taxi drivers have joined the protest. it's part of a series of protests against government measures. the government has been imposing lay-office, salary

cuts and tax hikes as it struggles to meet the requirements for a bailout loan. italian premier narrowly survived a confidence vote in the parliament today. he has faced repeated calls for his resignation following numerous scandals and worries over italy's economy. but he made it clear he has no intention of stepping down. this morning tensions are running high at san jose state university. three attacks in just two days. we have been talking to police there and we are live with the report. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, mike. in fact, i just got this press release from police. it describes two of the three incidents that happened on campus two. happened on wednesday. one happened yesterday. that makes three sex crimes in just two days. now the first one happened around 8:30 on wednesday night near clark hall near the tommy

smith and jon car low staff chew. a student reported being groped by one man, but the suspect was with a friend of his. she told police the men rode up on bikes around 8:40, groped her and then rode off. police put out a crime alert that contained the description of two men, one hispanic 18 to 20 years old. but after that, another avictim contacted police. she said the same thing happened to her at 7:30 that same night. the victim was near a hall. at least one student is concerned. >> it's scary because i'm a college freshman and i want to feel safe walking around. and i definitely don't feel safe knowing that there's so many gropings going on. >> the third incident happened just i didn't do. a woman told police she was in a stall in the second floor women's bathroom. a man entered the stall next to her and ducked his head between

the stalls the. victim screamed and ran off. he was described as transient looking. police have no suspects, but we're going to have more on mornings on 2 on the descriptions of the two men on the bikes. right now, we want to go back to sal. >> well, we're looking at the eastbound bay, especially now because there's where the traffic is getting busier. let's go to highway 4 baypoint. you can see we have a lot of slow traffic through pittsburgh. this morning's commute not affected by major problems along this corr, to but -- this corridor but obviously we're watching that. the bay bridge, that's pretty slow, back up to the oakland overcrossing. so not friday lite here, although maybe later it will be, not right now. we have a new crash westbound 580 there on the right after

north 1st, a crash reported, a motorcycle down in the middle lane, traffic is slow from north anyone road there. is a brand new crash. traffic had been doing well here. and in san jose, things are beginning to get crowded on 280 and 85. looks to be a good weekend. not as warm today because we will have higher cloud and cooler temperatures, but it will be dry. high pressure kicked in about wednesday. really kicked in yesterday and today. i think it will max itself out. and then carry over into saturday. cooler by sunday. today though, clear skies, calm conditions, coast 70s and 80s. and inland, 8s to near 90 degrees. and you can see why, everything up and over. draw your attention to that high clouds working their way in saturday. maybe south bay, but it won't matter. 53 fairfield.

and downtown 65. there's mild conditions today. cooler towards north bay, east bay, but mild peninsula. the low spinning in the middle of the screen is going to inch closer towards us, that will start a cooling trend on sunday into monday and higher clouds if the south will move over us by saturday. today though, sunshine, severe clear as we say. warm, coast, looks good. we'll have 70s, 80s coast and bay. and 80s to near 90 inland. and the extended outlook shows nice to warm on saturday, cooler on sunday ask cooler into next week. google has gone far beyond expectations with its most recent earnings report. the company made $2.7 billion during the third quarter. that's up 26% from last year. google announced yesterday that its new social networking site has reached 40 million plus and google stock is up $36 a share

right now. checking in on the broader market, live look at the dow jones up 123 points to 11,601. some optimism overseas, but earnings reports helping things out. and apple up about $8 a share. it is expected to sell as many as 4 million of the new iphones this weekend. the new 4s model goes on sale today. people are line up overnight to get their hands on and it it could outperform last year's release of the iphone 4. and pre-orders soldout. >> yep, no chance. a new report is showing an increase in the number of mistakes made by air traffic controllers. a deal from the state for drivers. why it could pay to have unpaid traffic tickets laying around.

house burning in south gate in los angeles county. we will continue to follow these pictures as they come in into the news room. a new report by a government watchdog group says errors made by air traffic controllers have increased dramatically. the government accountability office report shows air traffic mistakes involving flights near airport more than doubled over the past three years. many of the errors occurred when controllers directed planes the fly too close to each other. a federal aviation administration statement says the increase is due to better reporting. we're learning that the transportation secretary will leave the obama administration at the end of the president's current term. he indicated his intention to leave the president's cabinet, but did not give a reason. he was a republican congressman from illinois for 14 years until retiring in 2008. well, if you have unpaid traffic tickets laying around, you could be eligible for a big discount. the state is offering a 50%
