>> reporter: we're live in concord where we have exclusive, dramatic video of firefighters rescuing two women from inside a burning house. we'll take you there and show you just how dangerous a firefighter's job can be. increased security at one bay area high school this morning. the threat that has police, parents and students so concerned. >> reporter: just one hour to go and the dozens of people who spent the night out in front of this apple store will get what they have been waiting for. the doors open at 8:00. and what we've learned from police within the last couple of hours from -- couple of hours from police about tension and trouble at a school. good morning. i'm mike mibach. >> i'm claudine wong.

it's friday, october 14th. tori and dave are off today. two women are safe after being rescued overnight by firefighters. tara moriarty joins us live from concord with exclusive video. tara? >> reporter: well, firefighters at station 6 can feel pretty good about themselves this morning because they pulled two women from a burning house and one of the firefighters who carried the woman out was wearing this helmet. on it, you can see a camera that's attached to it. we have some video to show you that gives you a real sense of what it was like inside the house. it's very dark. it's very smoky but it really shows you how dangerous a firefighter's job can be. >> where you at, ma'am? where are you? >> where is she? >> she's in that bedroom there.

>> i got her right here. come with me, ma'am. let's go! >> reporter: the two firefighters were able to pull the two women out. one walked one of the women out. the other firefighter carried the other woman out. >> we could hear the people in the background screaming i've been a firefighter for 13 years now, and this is actually my first live rescue of two people. normally the situations don't dictate that, especially at this time of the night. >> reporter: here are the two firefighters. firefighters say if they had gotten their 90 seconds later, they might not have been able to save those women. both women were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. it all happened at 1:30 when flames broke out in the attic on bonham way. we don't know the relationship between these two women but we are told one was an elderly

woman and the other perhaps her caretaker. we'll continue to follow this story throughout the morning and let you know if we have any new developments. tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:02. three people were displaced in a fire in brisbane. it started at an apartment complex on visitacion valley. officials say the fire may have started on the stove. the home didn't have a smoke detector. the neighbor called the fire department after noticing the smoke. no one was injured? we are following developing news. this is live in south gate in los angeles county. that fire started about two hours ago on the second floor of that time. you can see them up on the ladder trying to get water on top. >> classes are being -- are being held at alhambra high school despite the threat that was e-mailed to the high school. there was a warning that

something bad could happen on campus today. parents were notified about this last night. there's a blood drive that was scheduled for today that's been scansled -- cans. ed. investigators are -- cancelled. investigators are still trying to find out who sent that threat. 86-year-old mary sosa disappeared from last night from an assisted living facility. she has dementia. she relies on a walker and has wandered off before. she was in downtown berkeley. she's 5'2" and is possibly wearing a red jacket and black pants. a san mateo man is in jail accused of ramming two boys with his car in a fit of road rage. the alleged incident happened while he was dropping off his second daughter at john f. kennedy school in -- school in

daly city. a driver got annoyed at two boys. he was arrested at home. police say one man left his 1-year-old son inside a hot car while he drank at a bar in fairfax on labor day. a witness confronted him who went outside, lowered the window some more, turned on the fan and went back in the bar. a jury found the ukrainian native not guilty after five hours of deliberation. he remains in jail on an immigration hold. the new iphone 4-s goes on sale at 8:00 this morning. ktvu's allie rasmus has elbowed her way to the front of the line outside the los gatos apple store. good morning, -- good morning

allie. >> reporter: good morning, mike. the line stretches back to about a block, block and a half. i would say about 100, 150 people. it's crowded. people are sleeping in their sleeping bags. we don't want to climb over anybody. some people slept in their cars. along with the people standing in line to buy those phones, there's well over 100 apple employees getting ready to sell the iphone 4, it looks like they are having some sort of meeting in there. this store never sterned the lights off last night. the first person in this line -- i got here yesterday afternoon? >> reporter: yes. we were talking to some of the

lawmakers to give suggestions for the so-called supercommittee on how to trim more money from the deficit. republicans say the panel should focus more directly on shrinking the deficit than on creating jobs. the super -- committee only has until november 23rd to issue recommendations. san jose's ten council districts have been redrawn. the city approved the plan this summer t went into effect yesterday. just a few changes were made. only about 2% of the city's population are being moved into new districts. the city updates the district's boundaries every two years when u.s. census figures become available. a victory for wall street protesters in new york city. plans are -- plans are on hold to kick them out of a park

they've been occupying for about a month. david lee miller is live from new york city to talk about this new development. >> reporter: good morning, mike. as of this hour, the standoff continues off in the distance across my shoulder. they were under orders at 7:00 to vacate the park so it could be cleaned. a few minutes before 7:00, word was announced that, in fact, those plans had been postponed. at this hour, the demonstrators continue to occupy the park. there have been a number of arrests. let me give you a lay of the land of the geography as we move in the other direction. down this street here, which is new york's body, a few -- body -- broad day, that's wall street itself. that's heavily barricaded. they are not allowed to enter broadway. a couple of did. possibly by the news that the

cleanup was postponed. there have been a number of arrests. michael bloomberg says the park is owned by a private company, and if they want to go ahead with the cleanup operation, they will have the right to do so. so as i said at the outset, the standoff at this hour essentially continues. a win for the demonstrators, right now they are planning a global campaign to occupy wall street beyond the u.s. there are plans for similar movements to take place in england, germany, spain and italy. additionally we're told they plan to march on saturday in new york's time's square. back to you. >> david, i know that this morning, there was a lot of cleaning up going on and that was bun of the -- one of the bigger issues and that was whether or not the protesters would clean up the park or whether the owners would come in and clean but we saw video

of some of the them in the movement -- some of them in the movement cleaning the park. >> reporter: you are right. the demonstrators have made an effort to clean up the park. you see brooms and cleaning equipment. they've made a point to say, this park does not need to be cleaned up, it's very clean, thanks to us. this is just a ruse to get us out of the park and stop the demonstrations. the management company that owns the park says there are conditions that need to be addressed, for now listening to some political leaders in the city, they've delayed the cleanup operation, but it's something they could reschedule in the future. mike? >> and so the occupied movement continues. david lee miller, live in new york city for us this morning. thank you for the report. well, in san francisco this morning, the occupied movement will rally outside an education conference where rupert murdoch will deliver a keynote speech.

teachers say they were excluded and strongly disagreed with reforms with proposals being proposed. according to a highway patrol, a pg&e truck carrying four workers lost control on highway 70 near beldon. now, after the truck hit the water, the two workers in the back seat were able to get out but the driver and the front seat was jer were trapped inside and they -- seat passenger were trapped inside. on the look for a mountain lion. and meteorologist steve paulson is forecasting a bit of change in the weather for this weekend. it's been pretty slow in some south bay commutes this week. we'll run them down for you -- coming up.

>> two and a half hours. but who is counting? no. one and a half hours. let's take a look at the commute here. this week has not been a good one for south bay drivers. about the only glimmer of positivity here is that people are either going to their job or they are going to school, it seems, and a lot of people are going somewhere in the south bay. this week has been a rough one. 280, 101, 85, 17. a lot of crowds here. you probably know i'm telling you that the bay bridge has also been the same -- has been the same way. every morning right now is no exception. 25-minute delay into san francisco. if you are driving in livermore, westbound 580 at north first street, they are clearing an accident there. the traffic has been slow on 580 approaching 238 and then there's a crash involving a motorcycle. they've moved it to the center divider. the chp is waiting for a flatbed tow truck to completely clear that scene. let's go to steve. happy friday, everyone!

temperatures warping up -- warming up from southern california. they've this record heat. we start off with a lot of 60s. in fact, it will be nice, sunshine already for everybody here. no fog. those higher clouds -- right there. getting close. not a big deal. turns, 64 in san francisco, yet it's 54 in napa. 53 in fairfield which has had a fair week. 60s, oakland, hayward. an east-northeast or -- hold on. that north is at sfo. east-northeast is at fairfield. everyone else is calm. so we still have the offshore component which means the coast is clear but there's a lot of changes brewing. they will be here starting with high clouds. i think fog comes back on sunny -- on sunday. sunny and warm. it will be warm for everybody. 7 to, 80s -- 70 tole 80 near 90 -- to 80, near 90.

this morning, police are warning about attacks on a university. kraig debro has more. >> reporter: most students are finding out about this through their cell phones. we found out about it by this press release. the first of these three incidents -- incidents happened wednesday night and happened back there next to the tommy smith and juan carlos statue. police say a student walking near clark hall was groped by one of two men riding bikes. police sent out a crime alert and that prompted a second victim to come forward.

the student we spoke to this morning said it's time for public safety to do more. >> i feel like there should be more police around, especially the areas they've been catching them. i know there's been two at sweeney. >> reporter: this is the crime alert sent out following the first reported greening incident. san jose state police describe the suspects as two hispanic males, 5'9". the groping suspect, one black spikey hair, suspect's friend, purple hair. both were riding bikes. and then the next one, a woman was in the bathroom stall. a woman entered the stall and ducked his head up between the stalls. the woman screamed. the man described as transient- looking ran from the bathroom. we'll try to get more student we ack -- reaction this

morning. back to you. >> thank you, kraig. a federal raid on a mendocino county pot dispensary is shaking up the medical community. 99 pot plants were received located northwest of ukiah. this was the raid less than a week after the fed said they were tracking -- cracking down on pot businesses. the "press democrat" reports they are surprised by the raid because they -- because they say north stone is compliant with local and state laws. pg&e wants to replace potentially dangerous pipes that deliver gas across homes to the entire -- entire bay area. the two-inch pipes have a history of cracking. many were installed in the 1970s. the pg&e vice president told "the mercury news." it will ask the -- and they

will take action. >> it's taken an explosion to fix something that they already knew about. >> and jerry hill and paul fong announced plans to introduce a bill requiring pg&e to replace the pipes. these pipes are not related to last year's san bruno pipeline explosion. authorities say a san jose hot dog stand sold more than fast food. the 58-year-old ran a stan on fox avenue. "the mercury news" reports an undercover police officer started to buy weapons there. a federal indictment said the suspect led him to his partner and he allegedly sold rifes and methamphetamines -- rifles and meals from a corner -- and methamphetamines from a corner.

this man here is suspected of robbing a bank. police believe the man is between 40 and 50 years old and weighs between 100 and 150 -- 150 and 180 plans. santa rosa police have arrested a man accused of assaulting a denny's waitress and manager and part of the assault was caught on surveillance video. it happened in august at the denny's restaurant on el camino real expressway. police say a group of intoxicated people were making noise at the restaurant. the waitress went over there and asked them to quiet down. and this man threw silverware at the waitress cutting her face and then he punched her, knocking unconscious. officers say he left the restaurant and later returned and punched the restaurant manager in the mouth. he's set to be arraigned next

benefits for months. this is the first full day on the job for oakland's new interim police chief. but he won't need any on-the- job training. yesterday, howard jordan took the office. jordan is a 23-year department veteran who has served as interim chief before. it was a message for other city leaders. >> we need to allow this person to do his job. i think chief batts clearly said it. i think what we need to do is learn from it and move forward. >> reporter: jordan will replace chief batts who announced his decision to step

down three weeks ago. he had a stormy relationship with mayor jean quan and other city leaders. there is a bay area connection to the case of a missing 5-year-old in arizona. jessie shockey was last seen last tuesday in glendale. her mother said she left jessie with her older siblings and when she returned, the girl was gone. the police were there. there's no evidence of foul play. they were arrested and charged with child abuse. it's not known why they were released from that crime. her father is a registered sex offender and is currently -- currently incarcerated. strike leaders agreed to resume after negotiations yesterday between the corrections department and the attorneys representing the inmates. the -- the inmates agreed to end the hunger strike after

prison officials say they had would review all of the case of the prisoners currently in solitary confinement. according to an audit, the city's population has stayed relatively steady since 2000. the city has expanded services and increased spending to nearly 40 million a year to help the homeless. programs work. but high unemployment and cuts to federal aid are what is keeping the homeless rates high. the vallejo police department is re-- has released photographs of three men who robbed a check-cashing business at gunpoint. these are the photographs of the men. police say this trio robbed an advanced america check cashing business on springs road. anyone with information about the men is asked to contact the vallejo police department. two people have been arrested on suspicion of stealing from two sites of the same metal recycling business

in benicia. an employee of pacific rim recycling called police wednesday afternoon to report a suspicious ban inside the teal drive yard. stolen scrap metal was found inside the van and then early thursday morning, an employee reported suspicious vehicles at the sprig drive yard. officers found a woman there with salvaged items. police don't believe the two cases are related. the homeland security operations center is coordinating the 32 drills across 18 bay area cities this weekend. the alameda county sheriff's department says teens from israel and jordan will work long -- will work alongside local units. the commute is just starting to heat up. let's see how the commute and interstates are working. >> we could have traffic out there -- we do have traffic out there to be sure. we start out on san jose's

a lot of high clouds moving in here from southern california. cooling trend next week. really no sign of any rain or anything. it looks like just cooler patterns as we go into next week. it's been really hot in southern california on wednesday and thursday, 99 l.a., 105 gnat. it will be cooler there -- santa ana. upper 50s, low to mid-60s. there's hardly any breeze and what breeze there is, -- is out of the east and northeast. it also means the coast is beautiful right now. leading edge of those higher clouds inching northward but they will be thicker starting tomorrow. tonight, this low right there, there's not much to it but that's the one that's gonna give us our cooling trend and probably increase the fog more into sunday than early next week. sunny and warm today. the coast looks great. it will be warm to hot. 70s, 80s to upper 80s and a few

more than 1500 people held a candlelight vigil outside of salon meritage in seal beach. it was inside that salon where police say 41-year-old scott dekraai opened fire wednesday afternoon, killing eight people. among the victims was his ex- wife. police say the two were in a bitter custody battle over their 8-year-old son. >> we're a close-knit community that have never experienced such a devastating event. this is literally -- this has literally touched every person in our town. >> dekraai was arrested about a half-mile from the salon, police say he was armed with multiple weapons and wearing a bulletproof vest and taken into custody without incident. happening right now, president obama and the president of south korea are about to board air force one heading to michigan. these are live pictures you are viewing. they are going to tour a

learning that transportation secretary ray lahood will leave the president's cabinet at the end of the term. he indicated he would be leaving but did not give a reason. he is a political congressman. he served in illinois until he retired back in 2008. a new report by a watchdog group say errors made by air traffic controllers have increased dramatically. air traffic safety mistakes more than doubled in the past three years. many of these errors occurred when planes were flying too close to each other. a pilot of a small plane walked away uninjured after he was forced to make a crash landing in san rafael. the plane landed in a snake- infested marsh. rescuers say it appeared the plane's engine malfunctioned shortly after taking off from the airport in san rafael. a man from novato was the only

bears are playing in san francisco while memorial stadium undergoes renovation. businesses near at&t park say they enjoy having a boost in traffic especially since the giants are not in the playoffs this year. the weather is spectacular. usc fans are out in force and the cal fans speak for themselves. >> unfortunately for cal and their fans, they lost 30-9. they've fallen and are 0-3 in the pac 12. the gap clothing store will close nearly 200 stores and downsize many others across the united states. the company plans to reduce the number of gap brand stores to 700 by the end of 2013. right now the gap won't reveal what stores it will close. in the most recent quarter, the company reported a 19% decline in property. they old banana republic and old navy and the company says it's focusing on international.

the weekend and much cooler for monday and tuesday. claudine? mike? the family of a drowning victim in alameda is now suing the city and the county. the brother and sister of raymond zach accused emergency responders of failing in their duty to help save a live. the suit claims they breached this duty through numerous actions and inactions, many of which violated their own policies, procedures and protocols. these were the direct and approximate cause of the death of raymond zach. the 52-year-old zach waded into chest-high waters off crown beach in alameda last may. witnesses say he stood there until he drowned. police and firefighters watched along the shore the. -- shore. the lawsuits are seeking unspecified damages. some employees at "the new york times" will be the victims of job cuts. "the times" are cutting up to 20 jobs. the staff reduction is a cost-

introduce a bill for pg&e to replace the pipes. the pipes are not related to the san bruno last year -- san bruno explosion last year. 17 people were hurt in the amtrak accident wednesday night. now, earlier reports indicated one of the trains ran a red light signal. but one source tells us it's also possible that there was a switching error that could have caused trouble on the tracks. agencies say it's still very early in this investigation. >> there's any number of things that could happen right out to -- i mean, maybe they didn't stop fast enough or maybe turned the wrong switch. i'm just throwing these things out here. i really don't know the cause of this accident. investigators plan to examine the train equipment interview the crews on both trains and check all emergency communication tied to the crash. there were about 100 -- 115 passengers on board the two

tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: the goal, they say, of these threats is to disrupt classes. so the school doesn't want to give this person the satisfaction of canceling school if these threats end up being hoaxes. a call was made to all parents last night letting them know that a menacing e-mail was sent to district officials on wednesday. most parents are allowing their kids to stay in class today but some have changed their minds. >> i didn't know if my granddaughter was gonna go or not but her mom didn't want her to go so i'm taking her back home. >> reporter: the authorities don't believe the threat is credible. they are trying to contact the -- track down the e-mail

address. it can get tricky if someone hack into that e-mail. a dress release from the school district and the martinez police department. there was a threat that came into the school through an e- mail and our investigators have been working on following unon the threat for the last couple of days. so far they haven't found any credible merit to the threat. one thing we want people to realize, the police department and the school district takes this seriously. so we obviously have a bigger police presence than the school because our goals is to reduce fear here at the school and the community. but we also encourage people to carry on with their day to day. i'm sure people are gonna be looking for anything suspicious. you know, maybe more than what they -- more than what they normally do. but our goal is to show our presence and -- to make sure

there is a bay area connection in the case of a missing 5-year-old in arizona. jecy shockley was last seen thursday at her home in glendale. her mother told police she left jessie with her older siblings and when she returned home,
