taken the lives of more than 4400 military members including 470 from california. now the president is looking to the future and afghanistan where he plans to with draw u.s. troops by 2014. carol han, ktvu channel 2 news. >> a police chase in the east bay this morning came to a dramatic end in oakley. it all started at a chevron gas station on hillcrest avenue in antioch where noel walker has this report. >> reporter: yeah, there was an armed hold up here at 5:00 in the morning, then at 7:00 in the morning the suspect was arrested and crashed in antioch, according to me gps if you look at that right there, that is just a jaunt across highway 4, about probably 6.9 miles away so what took so long? the suspect doesn't exactly take them on a direct route. rarely do police pursuits end well for the driver who is

trying to get away from police. today is no different. this is the result of the robbery. it was 5:00 a.m., a frightening end to the shift. [ inaudible ] >> your cash -- your cashier opened the register and gave him what was in it? >> yeah. >> the suspect was being watched a camera captured it all but the suspect avoided capture for a couple of hours. >> one of our officers observed the vehicle on a street and attempted to stop the vehicle. a pursuit ensued through highway 4 and surface streets. >> there was damage along the way. he rammed 1 car and forced another poof the road.

in the end a crash was unavoidable. he flipped. inside they found a gun. customers were only mildly surprised. >> it seems crazy but it is antioch and stuff like this happens all the time. >> fortunately no one but the suspect was injured. he was taken to the hospital. the clerk said there were two men, one of them with a gun and one of them to stand look out. at the crash scene there was only one person who crashed and was arrested. we put in a call to police to find out if they are still looking for a second suspect or if they have arrested a second suspect but we have not heard back from them. live in antioch, noel walker, ktvu channel 2. >> all right. and take a look at this. water gushing from under this car. in san francisco's mission

district earlier this morning. police say the driver hit the hydrant and jumped out and ran off. city crews had to wait for a tow truck to pull it off before they could turn it off. police are still looking for the driver. inspectors are at the stadium right now after two earthquakes hit that area yesterday. the first was at 2:41 p.m. and measured 4.0, centered near college avenue and webster street. the second hit at 8:16 last night. magnitude 3.8, the center off piedmont avenue down the hill from memorial stadium. [ inaudible ] >> that is ktvu's jade hernandez, she was in berkeley preparing for a live shot on the first quake when the second one hit. there you see the inspectors going over the stadiu the fault runs under the stadium, which is in the middle of a renovation.

the camping has to stop. the tents have to go but take a look behind me. everything is still there. i did talk to a city administration official an hour ago and asked them that question, what now. all they will say is the notice speaks for itself. they would not talk about plans to enforce it so it looks like we are at a bit of an impass. it is business as usual today. even though the city says the tents, the cooking, the camping all have to stop. >> it has become a problem now and i am tired of hearing about all the issues they are having. >> the city issued the notice last night, citing health, and other problems, saying they have determined this is no longer viable. >> this is not a camp. this is a movement. >> early this morning we saw protesters ready for action,

people were arrested and face misdemeanor trespassing charges. police are patrolling the campus of concord high school after a threat of violence. school officials received a fax yesterday claiming someone would start shooting at 10:00 this morning. nothing happened but officers will stay on campus until school let's out. >> unfortunately, this will, you know, be a cost to the school district and be a cost to the students in lost learning time and you know if it is a hoax at the end of the day that all needs to be taken series uly and i hope we apprehend the person responsible. >> officers were also at a nearby middle school and elementary school. >> i think it is absolutely crazy that somebody could just put in a fax and say at 10:00 we are going to do this or that. you have a whole bunch of parents and kids that are completely freaked out. i am noontime supervisor here at the school, but i think it is absolutely crazy. >> the threat comes one week

after another high school received a threatening e-mail. investigators say they are unable to recover any useable on ford video from the modified racing plane that crashed at an air race in reno last month, killing 11 people. the national transportation safety board technicians are still trying to recover information from an onboard data memory card. they are also pouring over dozens of photos and videos provided by spectators at the event. investigators say their final report still could be months away. libya's transitional government is delaying the burial of moammar gadhafi to allow the court to examine his body and right now that is being storedded in a commercial freezer in a shopping center. antigadhafi fighters say they found him hiding in a drainage tunnel under a highway outside of his home town of sirte yesterday. a air strike hit two vehicles

wild rescue has offered a 10,000 dollar reward to catch the person who shot the hawk with the nail gun. a marin county judge turned down a request from a accused serial killer. he asked he be allowed to take private showers but the judge said he had to shower at the same time as other inmates just like everyone else. he is representing himself against charges he murdered four women between 1977 and 1994. a yemeni man was stented sentenced to life in prison for his role in this. they were shot to death after being taken hostage by 19 pirates, the man sentenced today was a fisherman who was himself taken hostage by the pirates and says he agreed to join them to get his fishing boats back. the late steve jobs issued
