occupiers say there's been a number of cases and they dealt with them internally. in the end, the occupiers said they have no intention of leaving. >> we are not breaking the law. this is city, what would you rather have the drug dealers that were here? >> reporter: now again these protesters have told us that they have no intentions of leaving. there is no sign the camp is starting to break down. we asked the city point-blank if they would be bringing police the. the city would not comment only saying that they hope the protesters comply. the protesters say they have no intention of leaving. christien kafton. and we just received an update from san francisco police on the occupy protest there. spokesperson told us that outreach workers are notifying protesters about the no tents, no tarps and no fires rule. but so far there are no plans to move any of the violators

out of there. police say they want to help protesters exercise their first amendment rights and that teams are working with protesters on come complying with those rules. tieing the knot at the occupy oakland protest. we're going to take you to the not so typical wedding and how americans feel about this movement. across america our servicemen and women will be reunite with their families. today i can say that our troops in iraq will definitely be home for the holidays. 40,000 u.s. troops remain in iraq. now after months of negotiations with iraq, the president said he and iraqi president have reached an agreement on a complete troop withdraw. the president said about 1 million u.s. military personnel have served in the war and about 4,500 before killed.

one bay area congresswoman is saying tonight it's about time for our troops to leave. ken pritchett has the story from the mother of a soldier that is overseas. >> reporter: the president's announcement surprised some people we met today but it pleased everyone. >> i just know he's on a mission because there's no facebook activity. >> reporter: leland grew up in oakland and is now a medic. >> it is a relief. i would like to see him not going into iraq again. i don't know what's going to happen every time they have a mission. >> i was the author of the provision of the law that indicates that we will not have permanent basis in iraq. >> reporter: congresswoman barbara lee was an early opponent of the iraq war.

scientist on what they tell ex experts. john fowler. the san mateo county corner is trying to figure -- coroner is trying to figure out what happened to a woman found dead this morning. an autopsy still has to be done. right now authorities are not releasing the woman's name or any details about whether they have any idea of what may have happened to her. police put extra patrols around concord high school and two other schools after someone sent a threatening fax yesterday. officers stayed throughout the day around concord high as well as el dorado middle and high school. the threatened e-mail was sent

to elhambra high school yesterday. police shut down an oakley street after a high speed chase. before that he rammed one patrol car and ran another off the road. the man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. police say they believe he's one of two men who held up a chevron station on hill crest avenue in antioch. >> they had a gun with them. they just said, please, open the register. our cashier opened the register. that's it. >> your cashier opened the register and gave them what was in it. >> yeah. >> police have not released the suspect's identity and have not said if they have found the other two men wanted in the robbery. police arrested 31-year-old shean parks for touching a 5- year-old boy in an inappropriate way. in a separate incident, police

arrested 61-year-old paul gauci touching a 9-year-old girl. their licenses for their wife's day care centers have been suspended. we are hearing what may have caused a teacher to run over and kill a little girl last month. according to the palo alto news, the teacher says the sun temporarily blinded her. alicia white parker struck and killed torrez zamora. police have not said how fast the teacher was driver when she hit the girl nor whether she will be charged with a crime. you can see there parents and a crossing guard are keeping a close watch on those children as they head to school. america's gang problem is growing. that's the conclusion of the fbi's annual gang threat assessment. they say there are now 1.4 million gang members. the report also says the largest growth in gang membership is in the northeast and the southeast. a coast guard safety check

on a sailboat in benitia turned into anything but routine. officers boarded the boat for a safety check, the men on board said they had medical marijuana licenses but were not able to provide proof for that. the crack down on some medical marijuana dispensaries is drawing support from an unexpected place. other marijuana club operators. they say some clubs have become multi million dollars operations making a lot of money everyone though they're supposed to be nonprofit. we spoke to one operator who wanted to remain unanimous. >> i'm glad that the feds are stepping in because i've always felt there's a lot of folks that have gotten into this industry for the wrong reasons. >> other dispensaries say they would like to see the federal

in just the past hour occupy wall street protesters in an jose talked about being arrested early this morning at the group's encampment at city hall plaza. police say they took eight people into custody about 3:30 in the morning. officers say they moved in because of trash build up and public defecation in the park. the protesters say they've been peaceful and cleaning up. 20% of people back the protest that have spread from new york to cities across the country including here in the bay area. a majority of these supporters are democrats 64%, 22% are

independents. 14% are republicans. but the anger about politics in general is much more widespread. more than 58% of americans say they are furious about america's politics. in the midst of the occupy oakland protest today two young people were at the center of attention on the steps of city hall as they celebrated their wedding. >> one, two, three. >> reporter: the judge said that trina rihart and mike chavez were high school sweethearts and were married after 11 years old. >> i look forward to continuing to grow together and create our foundation here in oakland. >> you are the most beautiful woman in the world and i love you and i will be with you forever. >> reporter: the witnesses included many family members, friends, and strangers. all wishing the young couple well. the name of a new recreation center will pay tribute to a local woman who died in the september 11

attacks. the recreation and commission voted the new china town center after betty ong. she was on american airlines flight 11 which slam into the north tower of the world trade center. and she was the first to report that the plane had been hijacked. san francisco major ed lee requested the tribute last month -- mayor ed lee requested the tribute last month. state health officials say 12.9 infant deaths for every nine births. the mortality rate hit one deaths for 1,000 births in 2006. african americans have reported the biggest decline. a central california company today recalled thousands of pounds of spinach because of possible sal

salmonella contamination. no one has reported getting sick. about 2,000 cartons of 2.5- pound backs of spinach have been recalled. a small number went to a grocery store chain in los angeles, most went to food distributers in 15 states for use in restaurants and institutions. this is the second recall this month for church brothers. president obama awarded the top medals for science and technology. today at the white house president obama awarded the medals to 12 top science and technology professionals. among the recipients were scientists who came from nations all over the world to study in the u.s. including china, germany, india, canada and england.

wal-mart is rolling back health benefits for some of their workers. future part time workers will no not qualify, and workers who work less than 44 hours a week will no be able to put their spouses on their health care program. city leaders held a meting this week after rumor that is wal-mart wanted to build a store on brent road. right now the city only requires a design review but not one for traffic, noise, or reform impact. and the golden arches continues to do well in these tough economic times. mcdonalds income went up 9% in the last quarter and that beat expectations. mcdonalds made more than $7 billion. we've seen so many nice weekends in the past month or so. according to our meteorologist mark tamayo i think we're going to see another. >> the forecast is shaping for

fewer californians are fielding these offices but is it enough to curve the tide. september unemployment is now at 11.9%. that compares with 12.1% in august. and with a national jobless rate of 9.1%. only nevada at 13.4% has a higher unemployment rate. that good news about california's job market could change how some people see things on both wall street and main street.

tom vacar, ktvu news. democrats are pushing ahead with a plan to introduce pieces of the president's jobs bill after the senate voted it down last night. the $35 billion plan would boost the -- million dollars plan would boost the hiring of teachers, police and firefighters with funding from a new tax on millionaires. it was blocked by republicans to democrats and an independent who claimed it's another stimulus. >> once again, we saw an overwhelming percentage of democrats vote in favor of that and once again we saw precisely zero republicans vote in favor of that. >> my only response is, no matter how you slice it up it's the same balony. >> it failed on a 50/50 vote short. democrats plan to bring at least one piece of mr. obama's

proposal. today president obama signed three trade agreements. the deals with panama, co columbia and south korea are expected to bring millions in exported goods. the u.s. trade respective says the administration is on track to meet the president's goal on doubles u.s. exports by the year 2015. mexican trucks now have the green light to operate on u.s. highways. until today mexican trucks could only drive to wear houses right across the border. then their cargo was transferred to american trucks. today the u.s. transportation department reinstated a pilot program to deliver directly to customers. it's meant to cut the cost of moving goods. the agency says the new mexican trucks must meet strict standards. a financial data firm says

75% of the 118 corporations that reported quarterly earnings so far have beaten analyst expectations. that includes mcdonalds and chipotle. the dow shot up 116 points. the nasdaq added 13 points. some bay area residents are keeping an eye out after someone found a rabid bat. rob roth just spoke to the restaurant who found it and is here with what he said. >> reporter: it is odd that this is happening right near halloween. but up here a health advisory went out that a homeowner found a bat, a bat that had rabies. about a half hour ago we spoke to that resident. >> the body was probably about this big. >> reporter: gary robas said he saw the bat sunday on the back part of their home. >> it was just flying funny and swooping down. and it looked like a flying rat. so, i didn't -- i have a dog so

i had the dog go inside. >> reporter: he said the bat then dove into a bucket, he brought it to authorities. officials determined the bat had rabies. >> people should avoid any wild animals. touching wild animals. educate the children about that. >> reporter: that was the third rabid bat found. that's the same number reported each of the last two years. neighbors say no question discovery of a bat with rabies is a bit eerie. >> we have a cat that runs around outdoors and we want to be careful about that. >> reporter: bats live in dark places. rabies in humans is extremely rare. so if you see a bad, call the city. unless of course that bat is really a halloween costume. rob roth, ktvu news. a yemene man was sentenced

tingering with i pads. which people say they'll use to read the new steve jobs biography. >> i guess get an idea of where he gets some of his inspiration. >> reporter: the book is based on more than 40 interviews with jobs and hundreds more with his friends, families and competitors. it shows how jobs gave up christianity when he was 17 after seeing pictures of starving children. jobs says plastic designs came after jobs saw some quisinart food processors and was sparked by their appearance. the book explains how jobs regretted delaying surgery for nine months after he was diagnosed with cancer to pursue alternative treatments. he says quote i really didn't want them to open up my body so i tried to see if a few other things would work. >> i think it's probably more common than we actually think.

hikers, bikers and horse riders are looking forward to a dedication in the south bay tomorrow for a large section of the bay area ridge trail. the new 5.3-mile section is just east of aloma park in east san jose. from there you will see sweeping views of mount hamilton and downtown san jose. it took years to get the land and the $193,000 in funding. >> this has been almost a dream for the last five years that one day this would open up and we would be able to come up here. actually be able to access the upper mountain with our mountain bikes and all downhill

working on for ktvu channel two news at 6:00. >> the search is on for that injured hawk spotted with a nail stuck through its heads. we go along with search crews and the tactics they're using to lure that injured hawk. those two earthquakes yesterday have a lot of people talking about. what they mean for the hayward fault. the questions even geologist experts cannot answer tonight. these stories and much more are coming up in just about 10 minutes. some people in alameda are upset about their crews chopped down an entire street full of trees. today someone left notes pinned to the tree stumps urging people to complain to the city. the tree removal is part of a larger street scape improvement project. many of the trees were poorly maintained and that they needed to be replaced. >> we are going to be replanting them on a 2-1 ratio.

for every tree coming out, two new trees are going to be planting. we're going to put in historic street lights continuing the street lights that are to the north. >> reporter: the city will also install new bike racks. the project should be finished by february. mark tamayo, you said a minute ago mid-80s, really. >> a few neighborhoods gasia and frank will be approaching 85 to 86 degrees and even into sunday as well. this could be one of the nicest weekends at least ranked in the top five. live storm tracker, two, not much of fog. i assume the fog will reform. right now we have mostly clear skies. we're taking a look at the buoys with winds gusting to the northwest. that fog will come back and push back into the bay. at least patchy in nature as we head into the overnight hours. forecast headlines for tonight. we do have this, fair skies, patchy fog develops tomorrow and the whole weekend. mostly sunny and warm. the extended forecast. no rain clouds but gusty winds.

we'll have to keep an eye on that with fire danger as we head into next week. as far as temperatures from today. we had a nice warm up with 79 in santa rosa, concord 78. look what happens for tomorrow. santa rosa 83. downtown san francisco in the mid-70s. look at the 80s, we're expecting for concord and also right around san jose. so far tonight it'll be chilly once again. the coolest locations especially up in the north bay for santa rosa and napa. back into the mid-40s. then into it tomorrow and also for sunday, high pressure returns. it'll set up a northerly flow and with that temperatures will continue to warm up. in fact, by sunday the warmest locations will be right around 85 to 87 degrees. we will cool things off a bit as we head into your monday. here is the concern though as we head into late monday, tuesday and wednesday we're going to have those offshore winds crank up. the gusty offshore winds low humidity levels, there's a possibility we could have a red flag warning kick in especially for the bay area hills up about

2,000 feet. basically any where. that will be for late monday, tuesday and into wednesday of next week. here's our forecast model showing us patchy fog tomorrow morning at 6:00 and 7:00. clearing skies into the afternoon hours. temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to right around 70 coast side. quite a few 80s. tomorrow will be warmer than today. you can see antioch right around 85. oak land in the upper 70s -- oakland in the upper 70s. san jose upper 70less. here -- upper 70s. for sunday, there's that partly cloudy symbol for monday. we're going to cool things off and tuesday and wednesday, 50s, 70s and 80s. >> i expect a lot of families going out to the pumpkin patch this weekend. >> it'll be beautiful. just great. >> good stuff.
