we will go back to the desk. >> well the coast guard is busy right now. searching for a missing kayaker in the san francisco bay. he was paddling near pier 80 when his kayak flipped over. ktvu's lorraine blanco is in san francisco now to tell us the next couple of hours could be very critical. >> good morning, lorraine >> reporter: good morning, i got off the phone with the coast guard. they have one big boat in the water searching tore tom gregoire. you will see more help as the light comes. >> it started yesterday at 3:30. the kayaking buddies said he was out celebrating recovering from throat cancer. it was directed in by a tugboat. and the kayak overturned and he never resurfaced. >> the coast guard said you can

never be too careful out there. >> even with perfect conditions on the bay bay. >> anything can happen. that's why you need to be prepared. >> the next few hours are critical out here. when it is light out here. they will reassess. you may see another boat or helicopter. >> reporting live in san francisco. lorraine blanco. an 18-year old woman is expected to survive. police say they got a report of a shooting victim in an apartment on newell court. there is before 10:00 last night. they found them suffering from a gunshot wound. police have not released any information on the suspect. >> time is 6:02. police are searching for a wrong way driver who smashed into a taxicab. >> that happened on the southbound lanes of highway 101. between chavez and the 80 slit.

all of this started when they started a pursuit with the truck. after a reported road rage incident, that led the truck life to drive the wrong way and head right into the cab. the driver left the scene and the taxicab driver was not hurt. >> they are trying to find drivers who may have witnessed sat's deadly motorcycle crash in san leandro, it force add shut down of 580 for several hours. the suspect is expected to be in court today. right, tara? >> reporter: that is correct. the transit company said there was no indication that something like this would ever happen. they said their employee had a spotless record and now he is being held here where he faces felony hit and run and murder charges. >> the 31-year-old from oakland was behind the wheel of the van that struck and killed a motorcyclist and kept on

driving and dragging the bike for 1 mile. it happened eastbound near the grand avenue on ramp. at this point police are not confirming previous pch reports that the motorcyclist was a member the hell's angels. >> we don't know what the affiliation is. if he was a full fledged member or an associate or affiliate or any involvement at all. >> reporter: the victim won't be identified until this afternoon. they say hall tried to run away after pulling over but was caught and arrested. freeway was shut down for 11 hours while they tried to gather evidence. what led up to the crash. they believe there was some sort of altercation between the two. whether it was road rage or not. we will learn later this morning. >> i am tara moriarty. >> a man is dead after a crash

in sonoma county. it happened at pepper and meacham roads. a 80-year-old truck driver failed to yield. the man driving the van was killed. he happened to be driving behind the truck and the officer tried to edifier first aid. but he was pronounced dead at the scene. the two people in the truck were not hurt. happening right now. they say the death toll is at lease 270 so far from yesterday's massive earthquake. in fact, these are live pictures. you could see in front of a religious temple right now. people gathered outside and you have rescue teams out there. searching the rubble. trying to reach dozens of people thought to be trapped. the live pictures are setting the scene. we never know where the camera will be aimed. makeshift tents and the camera is moving now.

streamline the process. >> the white house said the president will use the mantra, we can't wait as he announce as few executive actions to stimulate the economy. starting with his push today to refinance mortgages and to plan wednesday in denver to make it easier for college students to pay back their loans. he is going to push congress this week and pass the american jobs act but the senate is out and the republican controlled house has no plans to take it up. reporting live from washington d.c., alison burns. channel 2 news. the debate is brewing over the obama supporters over the solyndra deal. >> a former energy department official pushed for a speedy decision for the fremont based solyndra. in light of the collapse, the fund raising roles should be scaled back.

they shot a man at a hotel yesterday morning. what hotel guests spotted on the suspect which caused tense moments for the officers involved. they are searching for the person who fat tally stab add 23-year-old man. they responded to union street around 140. after getting reports of a fight. officers say they found the victim on nearby virginia street. unconscious and with one stab wound. he did die at the hospital an hour later. his death is the 39th homicide of the year in san jose. >> time now is 6:35. >> san francisco mayor's he had lee's campaign is being accused of voter fraud. >> they sent a letter to federal and state election officials. they they said it is ballot tampering. >> a group of lee supporters prevented them marking their ballot for any other candidate but ed lee.
