we have learned more in just the past couple of hours about a bizarre freeway accident that killed a hells angel member. police are checking to see if it was intentional. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. it's a busy day for san leandro police after that weekend fatal crash on 580 where a motorcyclist was hit, police are trying to find witnesses to the deadly crash. tara mori artie just spoke to

-- tara mori artie just spoke to a witness. what did he say? >> reporter: well, the victim left the hells angels chapter. we've confirmed that his name is george lopez. we have a picture of him on my iphone. this was sent to us by his friends. he was 50 years old. he was on his way home from stockton. his friends say he had a daughter, a couple of grandchildren and worked at an apple store. they say he went out of his way to help his friends find jobs and now investigators say lopez was intentionally hit while riding his motorcycle saturday afternoon. it was a grisly scene unlike anything officers had seen. officials say eddie hall, a van driver, for transit is facing murder charges. we're told he will not be kept in a regular holding cell because officials fear for his

safety and retaliation by hells angel. >> if they got him in isolation, they got to keep them there. i know there's a lot of people that love hells angels. >> reporter: we spoke to lopez's friends who were with him when the crash happened. they say there was no altercation before the indent that it was -- incident that it was completely provoked. >> that dude just snapped. i'm gonna tell you that trite now. there's no reason to do what he did. this guy ut cut like four lanes across and everybody slamming on the brakes. >> reporter: witnesses say hall hall kept driving after he hit lopez. this happened saturday. police are asking other witnesses to come forward. the freeway was shut down for hours while police gathered evidence.

hall is expected to be arraigned in a hayward courtroom. tomorrow we'll be there. live in oakland, back to you. >> thank you, tara. san francisco police are searching for the driver of a wrong-way truck that crashed into a taxicab. it happened around midnight on the southbound lanes of highway 101 between ceaser chavez and the 280 junction. it all started a few minutes earlier when police chased the truck after a reported road rage incident at 16th and police. police say the truck driver cove the -- droved wrong way and crashed into the -- drove the wrong way and crashed. the taxi driver was not hurt. >> in san francisco, police say a white van ran a red light an crash -- and crashed into a dodge. it happened south of market. seven people in both direction were hurt and there are reports that two of the passengers are paralyzed. police also tell us both drivers face dui charges and

the driver of the van also faces drug charges. police say they found a large quantity of cocaine inside the van. the search has been calmed off for a missing kayaker presumed dead in the san francisco bay. 55-year-old thomas grogere was kayaking yesterday near pier 80 when he flipped over in the wake of a barge. the coast guard spent almost 20 hours looking for the experienced kayaker but they could not find him. >> we'd been searching for 18 hours in a ten-naughtnautical mile box. it's a very -- ten-nautical mile box. >> friends say he was out celebrating his victory from throat cancer, he wanted to get right back into his kayak. jeff adachi is holding a news conference right now, he's

announcing that he and other candidates have asked for federal observers and state election monitors for the november 8th may oaral election. ed lee's campaign is being accused of voter fraud. adachi and the other candidate sent letters asking for an investigation into possible ballot tampering. media reports claim a group -- claim a group of ed lee supporters prevented any other candidate to be counted for but lee. ed lee says this has nothing to do with his campaign. a hearing in the case of the defendant accused of murdering michelle le was delayed. that's because gisele esteban wants a new lawyer. he's -- she's pregnant and the judge granted her a four-month delay due to her pregnancy.

prosecutors believe she killed le out of jealousy -- jealousy. president obama is in las vegas today, he's beginning a three-day western swing that includes a brief stop in the bay area tomorrow. today in las vegas, the president is outlining new rules that will make it easier for homeowners to refinance their mortgages. the new rules will allow all homeowners with government- backed loans who have been making their payments on time to refinance at lower rates. it will also eliminate some fees and appraisal requirements that have kept some homeowners for applying for a new mortgage. as for his bay area visit, air force one will touch down at 1:00 p.m. and then leave two hours later. president obama will attend a democratic fund-raiser at a hotel in downtown san francisco tomorrow afternoon. the president's trip comes exactly one month after his last visit to the air grau --

last visit to the bay area on september 25th. that's when he held a town meeting at lincoln headquarters in silicon valley. the president will spend tonight and tomorrow night in los angeles. members of the religious community led their support to the occupy movement in san francisco. hundreds of people took part in an interfaith march starting at justin herman plaza. the clerkgy and religious leaders wanted to show solidarity with the protesters wall street excess. they carried a golden cap labeled "greed" and sang folk songs. a bit of drama is unfolding at the occupy san jose protest. a man has climbed up onto a two- story high wall to protest police evacuations. he's holding a sign reading "stand up for what you believe in." >> police, ambulance and fire trucks have all been here sporadically asking him -- you know, weigh have to make sure he's -- we have to make sure

he's not suicidal. he yelled down he was not. he's completely safe. he yelled out what his mission for -- mission was for. >> five people were arrested this morning for illegally camping. and in oakland occupy protesters are still camped out at -- camped out at city hall. last thursday night, officials -- officials said the demonstrators had to leave the plaza between 10:00 a.m. and 6 chp. oakland police appeared to be cracking down on traffic infractions. and officers are issuing citations near where demonstrators are collecting donations. we have complete coverage on the ktvu.com home page. this week, the oakland school board is expected to

vote on a controversial restructuring plan that could -- restructuring plan that coo close five -- that could close five schools. he says the plan would save the district an estimated $2 million but outraged parents of staged rallies and packed school board met meetings against the plan. the school board is expected to make a decision on the closures this wednesday. it's a special day for some high school students in san francisco. that's because they are getting a visit from a famous graduate who is using his guitar to send them an important message. alley rasmus joins us live from -- allie rasmus joins us live from the high school where carlos santana was. >> reporter: well, they packed the auditorium here to hear a free concert with a very famous alum first -- alumnus.

including tully's. it's the way to brew everyone's favorite cup in under a minute. way to brew. one northbound lane remains closed on highway 101 in southern santa clara county. the chp says the truck's trailer flipped over just been 7:00, dumping scrap metal in all of the northbound lanes in morgan hill. although some cars were able to get by, the backup stretched for miles. once again, one lane is still closed. the chp says that lane will remain closed on northbound 101 in morgan hill for at least a little while longer. the death toll now stands at 279 in turkey after a 7.2 magnitude quake jolted the country over the weekend.

but there are stories of survival. rescue crews pulled this man from rubble near the city of arics -- erics. that city is one of the hardest hit. so far 80 multibuildings have collapsed. >> translator: and the rescue people came late because of the structure in the region and they couldn't make it any quicker. so yesterday, we tried to pull the rubble ourselves but what can human power do. >> thousands are now homeless as a result of the quake. it's now night there. many people who do have homes are fearful of more aftershocks. turkey lies in one of the most active seismic zones and is crossed by several faultlines. americans in kenya are on high alert after two explosions occurred in that my -- in

tonight's town hall meeting starts at 6:00 at the stinson beach community center. good afternoon to you. a big cooldown underway. what a difference a day makes. we have partly cloudy skies, even mostly cloudy skies out there at this hour. you can see partly cloudy skies over areas of san rafael. dealing about 67 degrees. 5, 10, even 15 degrees cooler than yesterday at this hour. we have a southerly breeze over san francisco in san jose. westerly wind in fairfield. that onshore breeze and sea breeze will be with us throughout today. we're plenty gray along the coastline. we're expected to stay partly and mostly cloudy. 66 san francisco. menlo park down into san jose checking in about 71. 75 for livermore and over the north bay, napa, 65 degrees. a whopping 15 degreesle cooler than yesterday -- 15 degrees cooler than this time. you can see a mix of sunshine and clouds out there.

a couple of things going on. take a look at a satellite radar here we've been watching this search. we're watching this increase our clouds overhead as well as the clouds along the coast line. in addition to this, we've got a system that's dipping over the west coast today. that bringing us the onshore breeze and helping to strengthen the clouds as well. so far today, partly cloudy skies, cooler conditions expected. by tomorrow, that system i showed you over the pacific northwest is going to shift east. that's going to bring us more cooling. but it's also gonna bring us breezy conditions. the offshore conditions are expected tuesday night. we're dealing with clouds all the way through tuesday morning. we'll wake up with it once again. but by tuesday morning, it's pushing offshore. forecasted highs expected for today, 70s for the north bay. upper 60s, low 70s for the east bay. east bay inland, mid- to upper 70s. south bay looking nice, mild, 76 san jose. 75 expected in sunnyvale. the peninsula going to be a

taking a live look at the big board on wall street, stocks gaining steadily today in a round of corporate takeover news. good earnings from caterpillar. right now, the nasdaq is up 92. the -- the dui is up 92. the -- the dow is up 92. walmart is announcing a new price-matching strategy that they hope will make holiday shoppers want to shop their shopping earlier than usual. the world's largest retailer says it will guarantee shoppers they will get the lowest prices at walmart no matter when they buy their holiday shopping. any shopper who buys something and later finds it at another store for a lower price will get a walmart gift card for the price difference. the offer is good between november 1st through christmas day and plies to stores and online. mattel is now agreeing to the biggest toy acquisition in a dick aid. the company behind barbie and hot wheels is buying hit entertainment which
