she is on the phone. things seem to be heating up near 8th and washington where we have learned police have thrown flash grenades. >> reporter: i can't hear you but i will tell you what i can see in front of me. the protesters are confronting the police. the police have fired flash grenades and rubber bullets at the protesters. the protest is -- have also thrown paint at the officers. the -- cans around so walking toward the police [inaudible] walking the streets near 8th, there is traffic backed up. we see cars caught in this. i would say there is easily, several hundred protesters at this intersection. we have seen police stop them at several intersections, trying to keep them from city hall as well as the police station. i see a few people who are urging peace and calm but the majority of them don't appear to be listening.
6:04 pm
>> rubber bullets and flash grenades, anybody hit? anybody hurt is that you know of? >> reporter: not that i can see but i did see them take two people away, a woman at a different intersection act a block from here and saw them take away a man just a few minutes ago. we are right at the corner near the courthouse and the police station right now. i don't know if you can hear -- they are talking over the bull horn to the protesters. >> amber, we do see a lot of people kind of dispersed on the street there. i know the confrontation seems to be going back and forth between police and the proesters. have you witnessed any damage, anything happening to cars along the street or store fronts, windows, any damage? >> reporter: no. i don't see them damaging cars, or any -- but can you hear this? let me put the phone up. >> you are subject to arrest.

6:06 pm
but wouldn't say that the majority were violent. >> what direction are they headed now? most of them? >> reporter: they are walking away from the police line that is at the corner of where the courthouse and where the police station is. let me see where they are going. we are move agriculture moving --. >> did they say where they wanted to go? >> reporter: no. originally it was city hall but they were stopped by police so it's just been rag tag kind of wherever police aren't they will go to avoid the police line. they will confront the police and then turn around and go another direction. >> that's what we have been seeing for the past hour where police make a line, they stop the protests then turn as they were heading toward city hall. they are just changing course and direction and just on the move, doesn't seem like they have a plan. earlier in the day they did say they wanted to go back to city hall and back to that makeshift tent city they have been
6:07 pm
camming out for the past two weeks. >> yes. that's correct. they. >> reporter: they said they wanted to meet tonight at city hall and try to figure out where to go from here. they did during the rally urge nonviolence but getting their message out. i don't think they have a clear plan. this is going -- where the police aren't. >> just very quickly, the police have kept them from going down toward 880 and kept them away from the police station. in your opinion, does it appear they are going to try to keep them away from the plaza and city hall? >> reporter: i would think so. just because that was what they were doing earlier. i really have no way of knowing that. >> we will continue to watch them. they are definitely on the move and we will check back with you if you get more information. we want to let you know the complete coverage continues on ktvu.com. you will find updates and video from the raid of the camp in

flag warning, for more on the current weather conditions let's go to bill martin. >> thank you. you know -- you didn't see a lot of wind. let's go to the live storm tracker. there is a red flag warning for the north bay hills but as you look at the realtime readings off shore we are still looking hats winds west. that's the -- five miles an hour, off shore winds to be out of the west northeast. the winds really haven't kicked up. we are waiting for a north or northeasterly wind. that is the direction. that's late tonight, early tomorrow morning. that will happen. we are going to see that. red flag warning goes into effect for most of the bay area, other than the north bay, tonight at 10:00 it stays in effect until thursday morning. so the forecast basically calling for a warmer day tomorrow, increased winds and i suspect most of us won't really notice the windy conditions, it'll be up above 800 feet up in the hills of the north and east bay. the forecast is that low press
6:21 pm
moving off and the high pressure moving in. that's off shore. the winds are going from land to sea. normally the winds blow from ocean to sea to land. that's a cool every direction. it's not going to get hot but we are looking at increased winds, in this time of year increased winds and lower humidity can equate to very high fire danger. because we had rain a few weeks ago conditions aren't as dry as they often are this time of year. still something to be concerned about. watch what the model does, little bit of fog and low clouds, midnight tonight watch the off shore winds develop. they will take the fog and it'll go that way, boom, the model saying the fog is going away because the winds are coming this way. when the winds switch the air begins to sink. when it simks it warms, daytime highs will be warmer than today. the five-day forecast with the bay area weekend in view. it won't be a heat wave but -- yeah, back to you. >> thank you.
6:22 pm

6:23 pm
happen because some are shouting it's a revolution, some are -- have been aggressive with us, we had people spitting on us earlier, doing this things, it's not clear what will happen. there has to be -- there has to be close to 500 people right now. we are going to be standing by to see if anything happens. we will bring it to you later this evening. live in oakland. >> does is seem like the police are making a stand? >> reporter: yeah. all day there have be -- several hundred police officers here from oakland and all the other agencies around here in san jose, saw quite a few motorcycle cops sack jose, they do have a perimeter set up. people are still cleaning, the crews still cleaning they want to do all they can to make sure people don't enter that plaza. it's very unclear where they really are keeping people away
6:24 pm
from. they were not successful keeping people away from here and stopping them from blocking the of traffic . its anyone's guess. >> have you had a chance to talk to any of the protesters as you have been walking them and what do they say? >> reporter: well they -- they are really -- there is a -- there has been a bit of a disjointed message, some complaining at the war, some about economic inequality, they do seem pretty united in getting a voice across about the fact that they believe that they should baible to still occupy the plaza outside city hall no matter the message. they seem very unified in that and believe what the police did this morning was the start of a police state here in the bay area, something they feel very offended by. that's something they are trying to get their message across about right now out here trying to show they are still united, they will continue this revolution as they call it, they will continue trying to get their message across.
6:25 pm
>> we are going to ask you to stand by. we want to go to amber on the phone. where are you and what do you see? we are at 14th and broadway in front of the plaza. we saw sheriff, deputies and swat from palo alto getting their gas masks on. they gave a five minute dispersal order. people are starting to back away and looks like they are getting ready to fire tear gas. >> so just a short time ago you were saying you saw the police firing flash grenades and rubber bullets and then protests answering back with trash cans and paint at police. have you seen any more of that it appears to have stopped. they were walking -- when they were marching back there was a empty parked police car on the parked over to the side and i heard some of the protesters
6:26 pm
urging others to not vandalize the car and they appear to have listened, they didn't do anything. they proceeded here to 14th and broadway. they are guarding city hall and like i said we see a lot of sheriff's deputies from san francisco and the palo alto swat team here with their gas marks on. with their shields, i guess prepared to take the next step if they need to. i see also protesters sitting down in the middle of the intersection at 14th and broadway not moving. there is about -- i would say maybe two dozen, three dozen of them at that intersection. i guess -- refusing to move. >> so they have given the five minute order but not a lot appear to be dispersing. >> reporter: sorry -- i could tell you there are about three dozen sitting on the ground refusing to leave and we sea a
6:27 pm
lot of police. like i said i heard the order, there are still people here. >> we can see a lot of people and people sitting down. police have given the illegal assembly and they are subject to arrest if they don't move. looks like they are staying put. we are continuing to watch this and will have more developments coming up on the news at seven on tv3 and a complete wrap up tonight at ten.
