military uniform turned his weapon nato and afghan forces. at least two nato service members died in that incident. this morning, friends and family are mourning the loss of a milpitas man killed in afghanistan. a u.s. military says 31-year- old steven j dunning was killed thursday while on his second tour of duty. he was a marine for 13 years, working in explosive ordnance kiss pose alm a job depicted here in the movie "the hurt locker." his father says despite the risk, his son loved the job and believed it was all worth it. >> it was important to him because he knew the iud's could kill a lot of marines. so by him taking a part, he was saving a lot of his buddies' lives. >> he was investigating a device when killed. that's the only information the family says it has been given about their son's death. his body is expected to be flown to dover air force base today. later this morning, a private funeral will be held

for hell's angel member shot and killed two weeks ago while attending the funeral of another hell's angel message ali rasmus is live in san jose with more on what police are doing. >> reporter: san jose police spokesman wouldn't give us an exact number but said at least 70 officers will be here at the oak hills cemetery later today for the security funeral service. however, police will remain outside the gates, outside the perimeter, of the cemetery. they won't be coming in for the gravesite service of 52-year- old steve towson, a high- ranking member of the hell's angels, shot and killed after this cemetery two weeks ago during the funeral service of another hell's angel member. three to four thousand people attended that service. and police say that huge crowd made it difficult to respond to the shooting to secure the crime scene, and later apprehend the shooter. in contrast, today's funeral service for towson is supposed

to be much smaller since it will be by invitation only. that's a security precaution police worked out with the family ahead of time. meanwhile, the man police believe is responsible for towson's death is still on the run. police say 38-year-old steven reese got in an argument with towson before he pulled out a gun during the service and shot towson right here in the the cemetery. police explained why they feel it's necessary to have a police presence here today. >> we have to -- just because a lot of the deaths occurring are homicides. and when you're dealing with that type of crime, creates a lot of passion, lot of tension. we don't want to revisit what we had here two weeks ago. >> the gravesite funeral service starts after 10 this morning. police will be positioned outside the gates of the cemetery, outside the perimeter, not inside. and again, police are expecting a much smaller crowd today because it will be an invitation-only funeral service. ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2

news. more information is coming out regarding the final days of late raiders owner al davis according to his death certificate, he underwent throat surgery three days before he died of massive heart failure. no reason was given for the operation. he died from abnormal heart rhythm and heart disease. the 82-year-old died in the early morning of october 8 at the oakland airport hilton. he lived there during the football season. this morning mary hayashi is out on bail after being charged with felony graft theft. he was the wife are of judge dennis hayashi, and is accused of stealing more than $2400 worth of clothing from the neiman marcus store in san francisco. the incident which happened last sunday was caught on surveillance video. on thursday hayashi appeared in court and pled not guilty to the charges. her spokesperson says it is all a big misunderstanding. >> she sat down at the cafe at neiman marcus, and after doing a lot of work she stepped

outside the store and realized that she had made a mistake. but before she had an opportunity to correct that, the security guard got her. >> the assemblywoman is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on november 15th. her spokesman says she is looking forward to clearing her name. a firefighter is accused of embezzling more than $63,000 from the firefighters union. police say he used the money for sharks season tickets and a trip to disneyland. he was booked on suspicion of grand theft embezzlement, forgery and a probation violation which makes him ineligible for bail. occupy protestors plan two major demonstrations today in the north bay. there will be a rally at noon. members of occupy santa rosa will march at city hall starting at 2 p.m. they then plan to camp there

good morning to you! just a few minutes until the sunrise. sunshine expected for the afternoon and mild temperatures. people in the northeast are bracing for what could be a record-breaking snowstorm. show you video from massachusetts, where the storm has already dropped a few inches of snow. now meteorologists say that region could see up to 10 inches by the end of the weekend. this is about three inches more than the record for this time of year. and people there are scrambling to prepare. >> we changed our shifts to get rest of our shovels out today, whatever ice melt we have, scrapers. people looking for everything right now. >> the last time a snowstorm hit the area so early in the season was 1972. forecasters say this does not mean it's going to be a rough winter. it just means that there's some unusual weather moving through that area. the snow is expected to taper off early tomorrow morning. new york city is turning up the heat on occupy protestors

by turning the heat off. firefighters have removed six generators and 13 gas cans from the wall street encampment. demonstrateddors were using those for warmth and cooking. but the mayor says while the tents can stay, the generators are fire hazards. meanwhile, a reporter is accusing protestors of threatening him. >> you want to stab me in the throat? what did you say? >> no,. >> he grabbed the mic out of my hand and then proceeded to threaten to stab me in the throat with a pen. >> occupy protestors plan to bring in solar powered generators to replace the ones taken away. a former two-term mayor of san francisco is chime engine on the handling of occupy oakland. willie brown says mayors should never engage in any conduct that sanctions anyone violating the rules. he says mayor quan has opened the door for other activist groups to camp overnight in oakland in the weeks and years to come. >> if she stuck to her original guns, that is you can protest

ways to avoid the fee, after a firestorm of criticism from congress and the white house. chase and wells fargo are also pulling back, deciding to drop their debit card fees altogether. they were charging some customers a $3 monthly fee. union square store owners are considering a network of surveillance cameras to fight back against crime. this comes after a theft wednesday at natalie's antiques. a clerk there says two men entered the store and stole a display case filled with some of the store's most expensive items. san francisco police say a camera outside captured the two suspects. >> extremely valuable to us because now we have a photo to match what the suspect looks like, not just a description of the victim. >> last july the same camera captured this man stealing a $275,000 picasso sketch from a nearby art gallery. the owner says the police often

asked to look at his tape whenever there is a theft in the area. and the camera is now prompted other store owners to invest in the same type of security. five people are behind bars in connection with stolen s.w.a.t. team weapons. those weapons were stolen earlier this month from this los angeles training facility. in total, 30 weapons were stolen. that includes a machine gun and hand guns. police say all but three of the weapons have been recovered and those three were most likely sold on the black market. there's a new emphasis to keep sex offenders away from children this halloween. operation boo and now nor the first time the corrections department is also focusing on offenders living on the streets because that number has grown to 2,000. homeless sex offenders are order today spend monday night at parole centers in los angeles, san diego, and san francisco. employees at a private christian university must now sign a statement rejecting

he died when he specially modified car hit a tree only a week after getting his new license. witnesses say he was traveling close to 70 miles an hour when he crashed. investigators say there were no skid marks found at the scene indicating he did not attempt to break. martinez police have arrested a man who they say made threats to several east bay schools. 36-year-old larry ban tolla a is charge with making sever criminal threats. investigators say he sent threatening letters to schools and allegedly sent the letters in recent weeks and used a former friend's name to damage the friend's reputation. he is held on $350,000 bail. a san francisco police gang task force has arrested four men wanted for attacking three people inside a city bar. police say these are the suspects arrested.

police did not reveal the motive but say it was back in august when the men severely beat the three victims inside a bar on the 400 block of third street. they are all facing charges that include mayhem, false imprisonment and conspiracy. people upset about the state of the economy will be spelling out their message at san francisco's ocean beach today. they will be forming a so- called human banner, reading "tax the 1%" once everyone is in place the formation will be photographed from a helicopter up above. this is video from a similar event from ocean beach four years ago. that message read, impeach, referring to nancy pelosi, after she became speaker of the house. the aclu is getting involved in the objection pie movement. the civil liberties group is demanding san diego authorities drop charges against 51 protestors arrested during a sweep early friday morning. the aclu feared that some demonstrators splay to spend the weekend locked up because they can't afford bail.

more than 100 police officers moved in and removed tents and tarps behind city hall. they cited health and safety concerns. voters in san francisco have 10 days until the november 8th election. voters will be able to use vote to go pick the next mayor. under ranked choice people can select their first, second and third choices for mayor and all those choices will be considered unless a single candidate gets more than 50% of the vote. with 16 names on the ballot, political analysts say that's unlikely. >> it's still working in progress. ine though we've had it since 2004 we've never had an election like this. so it's anyone's guess what will happen come november 8th. >> san francisco state political science professor david lee says rank choice voting is a flawed system and points to oakland mayor jean quan, who won office without winning the most first-place vote. lee says kwon's victory is one reason there's already a recall every to oust her after only

a battle brewing between the city of richmond and chevron over a property assessment bill. schaeffer ron said it overpaid them so they're fighting for a $60 million refund. residents are angry and say the company needs to pay what it owes. >> how the audacity to question their taxes is beyond me. so it's a 1% against the 99%ers. >> the mayor says the city will faye layoffs and service reductions if chevron wins its case. chevron is questioning how the city places value on the refinery and was awarded an $18 million property tax refund from 2004 to 2006. celebrating the 75th birthday of the golden gate bridge. the independent journal reports the golden gate bridge district bothered of directors approved a new plan yesterday to help mark the occasion next year.

that plan includes day and night tours, lectures, films, and exhibits. the bridge cafe will also be renovated and will feature a new menu. officials say no toll dollars will be used for those celebrations. a fishing boat stranded at stinson beach or two weeks is now gone. yesterday crews finished hauling the boat away piece by piece. the 48-foot boat ran aground on october 13th. the boat owner says he was below deck when the incident occurred and says he called the coast guard for help. but coast guard officials say they don't get involved unless someone's life is in danger. the 70,000 dollar bill for the operation to dismantle the boat is being split throw ways. federal authorities are going to cover dollars 40,000 of the cost marin county will pay $25,000. the boat's owner and residents will take care of the rest. we have an amazing photo to show you of a i could,er getting very close to some hump back whales.

are planning to have 70 uniformed officers here at the oak hills cemetery, but those officers are not going to be out here on the ground inside the cemetery. the plan is to have them outside the cemetery, outside the front gates, and a around the perimeter of the oak hills cemetery. the big different betweens today's funeral service is today's service is in industry takes-only. a close group of friends and family will lay to rest 52-year- old steve towson. he was a high-ranking member of the santa cruz hell's angels club, shot and killed at the cemetery two weeks ago during the funeral service of another hell's angels member. three to four thousand people takenned that service, and that large crowd made it difficult to respond to towson's shooting for police, to secure the crime scene and apprehend the shooter some today's funeral service for towson is supposed to be much smaller since it will only be by invitation. it's a security precaution that

new this morning, we're learning more about the cause of death for al davis. the chronicle reports he died from abnormal heart rhythm and heart disease. his death certificate also states he underwent throat surgery three days before he died of massive heart failure. no reason was given for that operation. the 82-year-old died in the early morning of october 8 at oakland airport hilton. he lived there during the football season. also new this morning, 13 americans are dead after a taliban attack in afghanistan. a suicide bomber programmed a van into an armored nato bus in kabul. this is the first video from the scene as crews are seen rushing to help the victims. the explosion sparked a fireball that litter the street with shrapnel. four afghans also died in the blast this. is the deadly a attack in more than two months. this morning friends and family are mourning the loss of a milpitas man killed in

he died two weeks ago while saying guy bye to a fellow hell's angel member, and today friends and family of steve towson will come together to say good-bye to him. and welcome back to ktvu morning on 2. the time now is 8:30. the funeral for steve towson will get underway later today and security is expected to be tight. ali rasmus is live in san jose with more on what we can expect. ali. >> reporter: we just got an updated from san jose police and they say the funeral service for steve towson is supposed to happen later this

afternoon. 1:30 police say now, instead of 10 a.m. and at that time what we can can check to see are at least 70 san jose police officers standing outside the cemetery, outside the front gates, and around the cemetery grounds. police say they're going to be here not because they're expecting any violence, but because they are taking precautions and they're taking precautions because of what happened at the cemetery two weeks ago. that's when 52-year-old steve towson was shot and killed during the funeral service of another hell's angels member. police say three to four thousand people attended that service. police say that huge crowd made it difficult to respond to towson's shooting to secure the crime scene and an hen the shooter. in contrast, today's funeral service is supposed to be much smaller since it will be by invitation only. he was a high-ranking member of the santa cruz hell's angel motorcycle club and again, police say they will remain outside the ceremony -- cemetery during his service to allow mournes some privacy. >> we're not going to stand at

there. they do expect a confrontation with police because the city is prohibiting all tents. we're now learning the death of a petaluma high school student who died dyed in a car crash in august was a suicide. 19-year-old danny cox was paralyzed last summer after a diving accident at lake tahoe. he died in the summer when his special car hit a tree in novato. witnesses say he was traveling close to 70 miles an hour when he crashed and investigators say there were no skid marks found at the scene indicating there was no attempt to brake. martinez police have arrested a man who they say made threats to several east bay schools. 36-year-old larry banna is charged with making self- criminal tents will. he sent level this engler to schools and sent the letters in recent weeks and used a former friend's name in an effort to damage the friend's reputation. he is held on $350,000 bail.

a firefighter is booked on a number of charges. he is accused of embezzling more than $63,000 from the firefighters union. police say he used the money for sharks season tickets and a trip to disneyland. he was booked on suspicions of grafted theft and probation violation. union square store owners are considering a network of cameras to fight against crime. this comes after thefts on wednesday on gory street. a clerk says two men enter the store and stole a display case filled with some of the store's most expensive items. san francisco police say a camera outside captured the two suspects. >> extremely valuable to us because now we have a photo to match what the suspect looks like, not just a description of what the victim tells us. >> last july the same camera

captured this man stealing a $275,000 picasso sketch from a nearby art gallery. the owner says the police are often candidate and to look at his tape when there's a nest the area. the san francisco police gang task force has arrested four men wanted for attacking three people inside a city bar. police say these are the suspects arrested. police did not reveal the motive but say it was in august when the men beat victims. they are all facing charges including mayhem and conspiracy. start this is halloween will there be some different people who respond to emergency situations. the familiar red and white striped ambulance of american medical response will be taken off the switch. in their police will be the teal colored rigs of paramedics

february. there are 28 sections in all, and together they make up the self-anchored suspension part of the bridge. >> 280,000 plus motorists every day, and it's obvious we have an important economic lifeline and this will be safe for generations to come. >> caltrans officials say work on the new bay bridge is moving faster than they planned. the next step is to put cables in the new tower. work on this is expected to start by the end of the year. a fishing boat stranded for two weeks has been destroyed. yesterday crews finished hauling away the boat piece by piece. the boat ran aground on october 13th. the boat's owner says he was below deck when the incident happened. he says he called the coast guard for help but they said they don't get involved unless someone's life is in danger. the 70,000 dollar bill for the operation to dismantle the boat is being split three ways.

could help survivors and relatives come to terms with what happened. jurors in the dr. conrad murray trial heard from a witness who said the blame for michael jackson's death could be on the singer himself. dr. paul white is a leading anesthesiologist. he testified that the singer probably caused his own death by injecting himself with a dose of propofol when dr. murray was not looking. he also challenged the theory by the prosecution's lead medical witness that dr. murray let propofol continuously drip into jackson's bloodstream. the prosecution will begin cross-examining dr. white on monday. a controversy is brewing over a new policy at a private christian university in the deep south. employees at shorter college must now sign a statement rejecting homosexuality or they could get fired. the university is a small liberal arts school located in rome, georgia. the college president says new employees will have to make the pledge to be hired, and current staff members must sign it to
