the second person. the first person was taken to highland hospital, their injuries were not life- threatening. a person in the crowd videotaped the incident with his cell phone camera. here you can see the mercedes move forward, then the protester bangs on the hood of the car. the driver suddenly swerves, apparently trying to get away, but hits the demonstrator. the center piece on the strike this morning, when thousands of people marched to the port of oakland. live with the message, protesters tried to deliver there. >> reporter: julie, they said they wanted to shut down the port, and they succeeded. for more than six hours tomorrow, this intersection was blocked by a large crowd of demonstrators. it was only within the last 60

minutes that those protesters finally left, claiming victory. a late night speech to stay the course and continue to occupy portland. >> we want to get home. >> we're on strike! the 99%! >> reporter: the protesters on bicycles were the first to make their way to the oakland waterfront, blocking port entrances around 4:30 this afternoon. then thousands followed by foot. bringing their antiwall street message to the nation's fifth busiest port. effectively shutting down maritime operations here. >> we're tired of being taken advantage of it. we're tired of having our benefits taken away.

of protesters in the bank, when one person started to smash windchillos. a crowd tried to get them to start. >> it broke my heart telemarket really -- broke my heart, it really did. it was only when i saw others stop and cleaning graffiti that it restored my thought in the meeting itself. >> reporter: more paint was thrown against the walls. someone here also shattered a large, double paned window. >> i saw one or two people cover themselves, to not be identified, knocking over the gate, throwing things out of the building and spray painting it. >> reporter: some protesters tried to force their way into the store, but were turned away, leaving employees and some frightens customers inside, until demonstrators left. the vandalism is frustrating to many people in the occupy

movement. they say those carries out the destruction are tarnishing the message, and giving the movement a black eye. >> either the city council and the mayor keep some sort of law and order, or else it's just anarchy. >> reporter: here's an example of some of the internal strike within the occupy movement. one of the protesters were spray painting on the side of the whole food store, other protesters didn't like that, and moved in to try to get that protester to stop, and they eventually succeeded, but that was after much of the damage was done. so again, live here at 14th and broadway. you can see there is still a very large crowd. i've been walking through this crowd all night, up and down broadway, and i can tell you, 99% not to use that term in the way that the occupy movement is doing it, 99% of the people out here have been very mellow, very peaceful, with no problems whatsoever. mostly singing, dancing, gathering, and having a good time. there is a very small element

happening new, news chopper 2 took these pictures of law enforcement from contra costa county. the long line is made up of police, staging an effort to support oakland police. it is not clear if or how these units will be used tonight. thousands of protesters who took part in today's march said they are the 99%. as jana katsuyama reports, the 99% of the 99% are not marching in the streets, but that doesn't mean they're not supporting the movement. >> reporter: along main street in an upscale part of walnut creek. contra costa residents, angry at wall street and big banks. some said they share the occupier's frustrations.

>> everything is getting worse and worse. somebody has to do something. >> reporter: some people are taking silent action hoping to hit the big bank's bottom line. candy says she moved her money to a credit union after 30 years with bank of america. >> they're sitting on the money, even though we bailed them out. they're not lending their money, they're not putting it into the economy, and they're foreclosuring on people that they shouldn't be. >> my wife had an account in chase bank, and we pulled it out of chase bank. >> reporter: the president of the credit union national association said yesterday, there's been a nationwide surge with tens of thousands of people transferring money out of big banks and into nonprofit credit unions. the president of the pacific services credit union says in the bay area, there's been a big jump in new accounts, fueled by anti-bank movements. >> in the last month, we're seeing about a three fold

a third woman has come forward to say herman cain made sexual harassment. his campaign has denied that cain has done anything wrong, and is actually accusing rival rick perry of being behind these stories. perry, for his part said he had nothing to do with it. an award almost 70 years overdue. the congressional award was given to japanese servicemen who fought in world war ii. as ken pritchett reports, many of the recipients are from the bay area. >> reporter: more than 300 japanese american world war ii

red light cameras are all over the bay area, if you get caught, you will be sent a very expensive ticket in the mail. many of those are called a snitch ticket. if you get one of those tickets, chances are, you won't have to pay anything. >> reporter: this is what can happen if you run a red light. it's dangerous, and can be deadly. many of us push the yellow, or make illegal turns, and these days, it's all caught on camera. >> it had a photo of my car, which is definitely my car.

snitch tickets. a camera at the intersection of 30th and horton generates hundreds of tickets a month. many on rolling right turns, or what's known as a california stop. >> council felt we wanted to use the cameras as a slow tactic there. >> reporter: an average of just one a year in the last six years and no fatalities. the camera company actually surveys the intersections and tells police where they can catch the most offenders. >> basically, they're saying, we're going to make money off that intersection if we put it there. >> reporter: that doesn't bother chief james. >> it's a half million dollars in fines that we would not normally have collected. >> we know too main communities are putting these up as a way to generate revenue, rather than people people safe. >> reporter: they authorized a bill that would have required communities to identify a

some people with masks over their faces. these folks were pushing one, two, i'm counting three dumpsters here on 14th street, they pushed them down broadway to the intersection of 14th street and tipped them over and barricaded 14th street. a short time later, others punished them back on the side. and the who thing was repeated when the people with the mask tried to tip them over again. we've been having this ping pong with the dumpsters here at 14th and broadway. we also had a bottle that was thrown into the street. and shattered. some people walked away after tossing the bottle. then other protesters cleaned up the broken glass. so again, very peaceful, and no police presence here in downtown oakland. so far, so good, we're just going to keep an eye on things and see how it all plays out. ken wayne, ktvu, channel 2 news. you can stay current by

we have new information tonight about injured giants fan, bryan stow. today, his family ported that bryan stow wrote his own name. here's their picture from the website, showing what he wrote. stow was the giants fan attacked and beaten unconscious on opening day in los angeles last march. he has since been recovering from the brain injuries he received during that attack. the los angeles dodgers baseball team is on the market. owner frank mccourt and major league baseball have agreed to a court supervised sale. the dodgers filed for bankruptcy in june. and mccourt settled with his wife over ownership. mccourt wants at least $1 billion. a price some such as mark cuban

case could move forward. it would create the world's largest phone carrier. at&t is already fighting an antitrust lawsuit. on wall street today, stocks reversed two days of major losses. the dow jones gained 180 points. the nasdaq was up 33. analysts pointed to increased hiring. european leaders are taking a tough stand on greece. the french president and german chance lower said the decision in greece to hold a referendum amounts to a vote on whether greece wants to stay in the euro zone. they also say greece will not get new rescue loans until after the referendum. it appears california will not resume capital punishment, at least until late next year. the state hasn't excused an inmate for nearly six years. preliminary legal arguments won't be completed until next
