6:32 am
coverage for you, tara moriarty is at the port of oakland to start first with kraig debro, he is near oakland city hall, kraig? >> reporter: yeah, good morning dave, i am at the occupied encampment and here you see kind of what you saw yesterday and things are trying to get back to normal, trucks are coming through and it looks like businesses are trying to open anyway about the same it was yesterday except for the broken windows and graffiti. they put the property losses at $300,000 and some protesters threw bricks at them and anything else they could find. >> oakland police, contra costa deputies, those are just three of the agencies i saw send to put down a are bellian of some sorts. a number of fires were also set
6:33 am
in the street and dumpsters. most of this happened after a group of protesters, a smaller group of protesters broke off and occupied a building. police gave the order to leave, they didn't. at 12:10 police started to move and that is when molotov cocktails rained down on police and they responded with tear gas and the bean bags they use. still protesters were trying to fight back. police ended up arresting about 100 people. i spoke to somebody on a police line not a police officer but one of the protesters who do not take part overnight. >> majority of people here are working class people who lost a lot. students who are mad because of school cuts, budget cuts and things like that, like me, was that i am here for. >> we are not all about violence and all this
6:34 am
destruction. people are aggravated. >> -- >> reporter: now that last guy you saw, john campbell, he and another woman who were scraping the graffiti off of tele's coffee shop, they are in occupied san francisco and he came here just to do this and now i spoke about the bricks that were thrown at police earlier, this is one of them and we got this from one of our colleague and i spoke to high ranking police officers and he confirms this is some of the things that were thrown at police overnight. i have been calling police to try to get a count on how many people were injured and we understand they are supposed to give a press briefing later this morning. reporting live in oakland, kraig debro ktvu channel 2 news. let's go to tara moriarty live at the port of oakland where there have been confrontations already and big risk are backed up -- big-rigs
6:35 am
are backed up there. >> reporter: police are moving these barricades and they are pushing them back to this area so that trucks and other cars can get through this intersection basically so they will be taking these dumpsters and moving them their so they can't get out of the port and then they will be setting up a gate so you can see there is quite a bit of backup here. there is trucks, there is cars and some of these cars have tried to barrel through the fences and basically they tell us they don't feel safe, they don't have enough people to man the intersection so they will have to try to change the game plan but the big-rigs are solid all the way passed the freeway and they have had to turn around and that's difficult given how narrow the road is. some truck drivers have been honking talking to them and some of the others say if i don't get to the port i don't
6:36 am
get paid. some tried to forcibly remove the fence and protesters just put it back. this is one of the entrances to the port and these protesters say they will stay out and about until 9:00 this morning. we spoke to a longshoreman who says his men are ready to work and we asked him what he thought about occupied movement. >> personally i am very supportive of it because the large shippers control and contribute to the political system that allow the free trade agreements that put american workers out of the jobs. >> so basically they are attacking the corporations here when they are doing this? >> yes. >> reporter: so they marched from downtown to the port blocked the gates including the main entrance on middle harbor road. now we are getting ready for a shift change around 7:00 that will happen and dozens of more truck drivers are expected to arrive. we are told police will show up
6:37 am
and demonstrators plan to be here at least until 9:00 a full 24 hours after the protest started. we will keep you posted and let you know if any developments happen. live in the port of oakland tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. a car accidentally hit two protesters as they marched with hundreds of others along broadway. the angry crowd then surrounded the cars and emergency crews tended to people who were injured. the terrified driver sat in the car while dozens screamed at him through closed windows. witnesses tell us he panicked after hitting one person and backed up to get out of the area and hit another protesters. both protesters were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. we have been getting a lot of feedback on our facebook page and we asked you whether you think police should move the protesters out of frank

6:40 am
delay, a 15 minute delay and we have been checking contra costa county and good traffic in contra costa county. let's go across 880, it still looks pretty good. big change compared to the last couple of days where we had sunshine, warm weather, dry air mass, northeast winds, high fire danger and i think after the next four or five days, we can say good by and the system is coming in and they do offer a lot of cold air, so morning sun, clouds cooler some rain moves in, much cooler into tonight and tomorrow. the cooler air does not arrive until tomorrow, cold pattern will take us to the weekend and it looks like a break saturday and another system comes in. so over the next couple of days it will be a much different
6:41 am
pattern and our system is beginning to slide through. that does not have a lot, it is what is behind upstream. novato 32, i have seen a couple of readings near santa rosa lake county 34, pet loom this morning -- petaluma this morning 38, woodside on the peninsular 39 most of the 30s are up in the north bay. napa airport, 41, red wood city livermore 45 san rafael 46. the system also is produced some of that rain turning to snow. it is actually a bigger event for the mountains as far as precipitation they will get some know but by tonight some clouds coming in from the north cold unstable pattern could produce brief heavy rain and thunderstorms, possible, some small hail but a lot has to fall into place for that to
6:42 am
happen. temperatures drop 15 to 20 degrees today and rain develops later on. snow coming down and that means temperatures are coming down but we do get a break this morning, so if you need to runner rans do it -- runner runs, you will have to -- run errands, you will have to do it in the morning. breaks saturday, more rain sunday, and monday looks quiet. controversial light tickets, why you may not be obligated to pay it. crews are cleaning up after a massive fire in san rafael breaks out overnight. how many people were forced out by the flames? good morning, if you are driving on the richmond san rafael bridge any time soon, it should be a nice drive but we have a traffic troubled spot in marin county.
6:45 am
6:46 am
officers, we will have team coverage throughout the morning. consumer writes this saturday is bang transfer -- bank transfer day. a facebook page has about 60,000 supporters. protesting rising bank fees have seen a recent search and occupied wall street and bank transfer day has similar interests and the woman who came up with this transfer day does not endorse the occupied protests and insists, the two movements are not related. in overnight news, fast moving fire in san rafael, it is in the peacock gap area and there is severe damage. alex savage has more on the investigation, alex? good morning one neighbor described this as the biggest fire he has ever seen and fires
6:47 am
are shooting out, you can see fire crews are still inside that unit, doing some cleanup work and that's the unit where this fire originated and they want to make sure the fire does not flair back up. the fire quickly spread from that first unit to three other nearby units. firefighters found a woman who was suffering from smoke inhalation, she is now being treated at the hospital and a total of 9 people were displaced, they were staying with friends, neighbors or at nearby hotels. several neighboring cities are working to keep this fire from jumping to other areas in the complex. that was no easy task given how large this fire was. it was like a giant match, flames were up above the level of the roof line and it was one big solid flame hooking up with
6:48 am
remnants of the flame hooking up above the main flame, like a huge forest fire. >> right now firefighters don't know what sparked this fire and we are told they have been called into this condo complex. they will be here for the rest of the day, although i spoke to the chief, he said the fire does not look suspicious on its face. the family living in one of these damaged units is out of town right now and does not yet know about this fire. reporting live in san rafael, alex savage ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:48, starting in the voluntary -- involuntary slaughter trial, they heard testimony from dr. conrad murray from 49 witnesses in the last few weeks. prosecutors are trying to prove he gave michael a powerful sedative that led to his death
6:49 am
and he is saying he did not administer the fatal dose and that michael jackson himself is to blame for his death. if you look at these tickets some of them are called snitch tickets and they show a video of your car, in many cases the police cannot identify the driver of the car. if that is the case, you are not legally obligated to pay it, so how do you know if you would been sent one of these snitch tickets. legal experts say it will list a court date and some say do not contact the court on the back and with tickets costing $400 you ared advice -- you are advised to read the fine print. but if you can't be identified, you don't have to pay the ticket. i am giving sal the green light to tell us what is
6:50 am
happening in the south bay. it is getting busy on 101 san jose, also 105 into cupertino and sunny veil, where a lot of people are going this time of mornings. it is already backed up on 237 as well and on 101 and now going on 280. this morning, same thing goes, we have a large back up of about 20 minutes before you make it passed the metering lights and then more time is needed to get to san francisco, via the bay bridge. southbound 101 from novato driving towards roland boulevard, there is an emergency lane closure and they determined it was unsafe to drive on. after 101, it's much safer for you, let's go to steve. they just tweeted about 15 more minutes, i think i just
6:51 am
saw that. i think we have a big change in our pattern and it will be in the form of colder conditions and this is not a cold front as far as rain but it is a big cold front because some of the cold air will start sliding in hereby tonight. it's what is behind -- here by tonight. it was behind it and we get some sun in the morning and we will get a big change, it is really cold for some, 31 and 32- degree readings, petaluma in town 38, far faction 38 so for most the coolest i could find around walnut creek is 42 and 41 near palo alto, red wood city 46, a lot of 40s towards santa clara valley and some of that rain could have a thunder
6:52 am
showers embedded and also you can see some of that green turning to white which means it is a cold air mass. a winter weather advisory starts at 5:00, takes us to the sierra nevada. if you are traveling, now is a good time to go and that snow level will start to plunge. really cold dynamic -- dynamic system exists into tomorrow, the biggest news is the big drop in temperatures and i don't think it will last very long. 10 to 15 degrees colder but again, a little bit of sunshine in the morning and if you need to get out and work out and do some errands, say goodbye. in fact if anything, upper 50s looks to be the norm and saturday morning, increasing clouds, one more system, looks like a break monday and
6:53 am
tuesday. thank you sal, steve? there is good news from the week's jobless report, they have dropped to 39 7,000 people bringing it to the lowest level and this is only the third time since applications have fallen below the mark. they rose to a rate of 3.1 analysts say it's a good sign for corporate profits and may lead to more hiring. new york stock exchange shows the dow jones industrial average up about 92 points, 11928, not a lot of optimism with europe and to the g-20 summit, greece in particular, we'll see what happens as that meeting unfolds. apple is addressing the battery life of its new iphone, we have found a few bugs, they expect
