there. at 4:30 t. is northbound 101. in san francisco it looks pretty goo. let's go back to the desk. >> topping our news this morning, the oakland city council met for hours overnight but there is unseasonty about what will happen -- uncertainty about what will happen to the occupy oakland camp. what could be next. >> good morning. it's still unclear what position the city is going to take although we are getting indication of where they leaning. as you can see behind me, the campment is still here in front of city hall. the city council meeting took hours. she with you supposed to ask them to adopt a resolution with a promise to provide city support and there was a lot to cover and many spoke in opposition. it lasted more than 5 hours and had constant interruptions. >> we've got to make change

now, thank you [applause] >> boo. excuse me. excuse me. excuse me. i understand the sensitivity of this issue and i know where you stand. i'm only asking you to be courteous and respectful and allow us to disagree. >> that was one of the many interruptions of the night. the council woman never ended up introducing the resolution and some felt a majority of the council would oppose it and try to dismantle the camp. many people got up to speak. but at the end of the day, city council members seemed to lean toward the opinion that something has to be done. >> not at the expense of the people, not at the expense of people or jobs and that's one of the things i want to be clear that we have a

responsibility to do something about it and we cannot continue just allowing the fact that we're moving in a direction that at some point we're going to have to resolve it. >> back live out here, your taking a look at the tents still in front of city hall. you know, talked to some of the people staying out here overnight, obviously it was a cold wet night. they're not planning on going anywhere but when you talk about this particular encampment and where the city council is leaning, they talked about the businesses that surround this area, the recent violence we have seen and city council members that normally have not agreed all seem to agree that this cannot continue as it's been going. there is no communication between the occupy oakland folks and the people here at city hall. this has not been going well and this is not a situation that can continue as it has. that being said, they did not vote on any specific policy. they promise to come back to

have another meeting about policy and make a decision at a later date. the oakland police department has released statistics showing many outsiders were arrested during yesterday morning's riot. 103 people were take into custody. 76 men, 25 women. two others were teenagers. only a third are from oakland. at least 9 don't even live in california. police say they are among 200 people and sent on a late night confrontation with police. they accused of causing the vandalism that erupted after a largely peaceful day of protest. we talked to them. they deny that they are anarchist but are not apologizing for the violence. >> these movements cannot just be these subdued demonstrations. people are angry, people have

the right to be angry. >> police showed us some of the items they say protestors used to attack officers and vandalize property, bricks, bottles and hammers, even fire extinguishers filled with paint. >> one well-known real estate developer did his part to restore order. there was virtually no police presence outside one of his buildings late last night so he used his loaded shotgun to scare away rioters trying to get inside. they still managed to damage the outside of his building. he played a major role in renovating the building down the street. they're getting off to a rocky start. on tuesday, the city council agreed to let protestors stay camped out as long as the two sides come to an agreement on conditions for the camp, but

yesterday, protestors rejected santa rosas requirements which prohibits pets and portable heaters. another meeting is scheduled for monday afternoon. >> we'll continue to follow the latest developments on all of the occupy protests. you can also find a slide show at ktvu.com. >> a school administrator has been arrested on child pornography charges. steven shields is an employee of the unified school district but at one time he also worked for the newark unified school district. they found the material on his personal computer. investigators say there's no evidence that he victimized any of his students. >> online disputes turning into physical violence. one local school says negative facebook comments have lead to confrontation on campus. coming up at 4:45, the steps

good morning. we get some rain. parts of the peninsula, east bay and south bay that. will clear out and then partly sunny to cool conditions today. >> speaking of, here's a live picture, eastbound 80, if you're itching to get thereupon to the snow. an early winter snow hit the area. you can see driving's not bad. if you are driving in the area you are asked to use extra caution because the roads are still slick. the snow is still good news for the businesses up in the sierra. they hired 130 seasonal

employees and say they need more. >> summer season is great but snow is where it's at for money. >> they opened some ski runs last week. heavenly and north star plan to open two weeks from today. they have big opening weeks scheduled up there. many of the resorts are planning for openings around thanksgiving. >> well the number of deaths blamed on the snowstorm in the northeast is up to 22. hundreds of thousands of people are still without power. the loss of power caused more school districts to use more snow days this week. they are now running low and it's not even winter yet. they trying to trim winter and spring vacations to ensure school doesn't stretch beyond june. >> they wrapped up the first land purchase in 50 years. they bought two and a half acres of land near middle field road. that property used to be the

peninsula daycare center. they won't say what they plan for the land but it could be the location of a new elementary school. >> 4:46 is the time right now. they're being blamed for sparking physical confrontation. negative facebook comments caused 7 fights on campus since school began. to help diffuse the problem they're offering workshops and plans to offer a course to help parents track their child's online interactions. >> san francisco public defender and candidate is making new claims of police misconduct. he released this video which he says shows police using excess in force. on 5 occasions a group of officers from the mission station false identified police

reports and stole from citizens. >> property was taken from them and in many cases money. dishonesty of this kind cannot be tolerated. >> police chief told us here that the video is not a smoking gun and is open for interration. he considered delaying the announcement until after the election but the victims wanted to come forward now. mitt romney is now giving details of how he would cut $500 billion in government spending if he makes it to the white house. >> like amtrak, $1.6 billion borrowed to china to pay for it is not a good idea. i'll cut it out. >> he would make deep cuts in aid to other countries and federal arts and broadcasting programs and would repeal the health care reform plan. in less than an hour, the

u.s. labor department will announce the october unemployment numbers. most analysts believe 90,000 jobs were created last month. the city added about 109,000 a month. that's barely enough to keep pace with the number of people entering the job market. the analyst believe the unemployment rate will remain at 9.1% but we'll bring you that report when it comes in. >> one of the pioneering companies is cutting more than 10% of it's global work force. they focused on making chips for games, pcs and servers, but not on processes for phones and tablets and in part that lead to getting a new chief executive officer who hopes to lead the company in a new direction. if there are going to be job cuts now, the time to make them. >> get it done as quickly as you can in your new term of office and get the company back

jury deliberations begin today in the involuntary manslaughter case against michael jackson's doctor. after almost 6 weeks of testimony, closing arguments took place yesterday. prosecutors ask jurors to convict dr. conrad murry saying he gave jackson a fatal dose of propathol and then delayed calling 911, but the defense says jackson gave it to himself. >> the evidence is clear that conrad murry acted with criminal negligence. that conrad murry caused the death of michael jackson. >> they want you to convict dr. murry for the actions of michael jackson. they just don't want to tell you that. >> people in clown costumes gathered outside the court to protest the prosecution. they say dr. conrad murry is a good doctor and that the trial

is a waste of time and taxpayer money. >> a woman accusing justin bieber of fathering her child could face criminal charges. police could investigate the claim and if the allegations are true, justin bieber would have only been 16 at the time and it would have been statutory rape. she wants him to have a paternity test and pay child support. he denies the child is his. >> negotiations to end the nba lockout will resume tomorrow. about 50 players held 2 separate conference call with an antitrust lawyer. the new york times says the players will push for the disillusion of their union. a month of regular season games have already been canceled due to the lockout. >> a bay area man used a unique method to locate ground zero

for the city's bike thefts. he determined that the mission district lead the way with 43. south beach was tied for 2nd and the next project is to figure out how the thieves are getting the bikes. nice, he's actually doing some research and maybe will stop this. >> i hope so. it's pretty common. go down to my cafe in the mission and ask someone who has a bike, oh yeah i had my bike stolen approachty common. let's take a look -- pretty common. let's take a look at the traffic here. it is wet. we are the rain shower brothers today, like the bash brothers used to be but we're the rain shower brothers. traffic is moving well. no major problems here. i want to mention that doyle drive lead agoway from the golden gate bridge will be closed this weekend starting tomorrow night. there go the lane workers right now. it's going to be closed

30s in the north. that's a sign of things to come for tonight as we get clearing skies. today doesn't look too bad. lit just be on the 50s. the next system right up there. that will give us rain late saturday, saturday night overnight into sunday. but a cold morning will give way to increasing clouds. today the morning rain, clearing, school, temperatures breezy at times in the upper 50s and then saturday a cold morning, clouds increase. rain returns late in the afternoon for the north bay and by everybody for late saturday night into sunday. today morning rain, clouds and sunny, cool and breezy. upper 50s or very low 60s. won't be much of a difference here. everybody will be pretty close. the lows will drop off the table. cold morning and increasing clouds. looks like a break though monday and tuesday. >> thank you steve. coming up on 5:00.
