>> we do have, well, still some light rain holding on. not too much left now. a little bit of shower activity, peninsula, but mostly that looks to be over as well. we're almost done with this morning rain and it won't be very warm today. only in the upper 50s, cool and breezy. your weekend forecast coming up in about 5 minutes. >> highway 4 looks pretty good. bay bridge is going to be okay as well if you're trying to get into san francisco. that traffic is moving well ' though its getting more crowded. thank you. still no decision for the oakland city council about what to do next about the occupy oakland encampment but it appears the city council may will leaning toward moving them out. she's there to tell us why. >> good morning. yes, this tent city, as you can see behind me is still here. lots of people still sleeping

this morning. there has been a lot of support for this occupy movement, but even those members of the council that came out in support of the movement now say there are other things to consider, like the cost of the city and the effect on the business. the president of the oakland chamber of commerce says there's no doubt that businesses in the area and businesses considering locating to the city want action. >> three transactions that i know have after canceled as a result of this, a 35,000 square foot deal is out the window. a 15,000 square foot deal and a 100 employee deal as well. we've had several conversation with businesses that are saying they will consider not renewing their leases unless something is done and done immediately. >> boo. >> excuse me, excuse me. there were lots of interruptions last night. at least one person had to be escorted out but a couple of

key things happened. almost everyone seemed to agree that a small group of people caused the majority of the problem and the council which has been divide second degree -- divided is finding common ground. not at the expense of other people or businesses, not at the expense of jobs and i think that that's one of the things i want to be to clear that we have a responsibility to do something about it and we cannot continue just allowing the fact that we're moving in a direction that at some point all of us collectively are going to have to resolve it. >> how they will resolve it is still unclear. they adjourned last night promising another meeting to discuss policy. one well-known oakland real estate developer did his part to restore order. he says there was no police presence outside one of his buildings early yesterday morning so he used his loaded

shotgun to scare away rioters trying to get inside. they still did imagine to the outside of the building. it is near the rotunda what he helped renovate. >> the occupy movement is coming to san ramone this weekend. the protest is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. >> negotiations between occupy santa rosa protestors and city officials are getting off to a rocky start. the city council agreed to let protestors stay camped out as long as they can come to an agreement on conditions for the camp, but yesterday protestors rejected the city's proposed requirements which prohibits pets and portable heaters among other things. another meet as good scheduled for monday afternoon. we're going to stay on the

protests throughout the morning here and throughout any time of day or night at ktvu.com. you'll find slide shows of the last night briefing as well as some of the riots. >> our time is 6:04. the labor department released unemployment figures for the month of october. while the economy added fewer jobs than expected, the unemployment rate went down a bit. at 6:15, we'll bring you a live report with numbers and also an explanation. meantime, republicans blocked another provision of president obama's jobs bill. $60 billion for roads, bridges and other infrastructure project. the president was pushing for passage of the bill saying it would create tens of thousands of construction jobs. that was the latest part of the president's jobs bill to be voted down by republicans. >> we are getting new video of

the deadly shooting rampage in september. i want to show you the video of the gunman. police say this happened just moments after he stormed into the ihop, three people were killed in the restaurant. one person was shot to death in the parking lot. he eventually turned the gun on himself. he sufferedfrom paranoid schizophrenia. >> during the morning news yesterday, we reported this may have started in a bedroom. well, around noontime, fire fighters found a body of the woman in the rubble. the coroner will confirm exactly who that woman was. >> more construction work on doyle drive could cause some traffic problems this weekend. ktvu is in san francisco with what part of the area you're going to want to avoid. >> pam, good morning. it is part of the doyle drive

project, part of the $1.1 million project but it's a tunnel and a drive, this is the golden gate bridge toll booth behind me. the cars are coming southbound right now but it's the northbound direction that will be a problem. let me take you on a tour. so from lake avenue, you're going through the bridge right now, cal trans will be working on this section. when you get past the bridge on the northbound side. they'll be working on the bridge, not much of a bridge, just connects the end of the tunnel from 101 up to the approach of the golden gate bridge. it will start around 9:00 p.m. tonight. here's what it looks like on a map. that's the part that's going to be closed. it's just the northbound section from 9:00 p.m. tonight to around 9:00 a.m. or 9:30 tomorrow morning. could be a problem for some people returning from the city. you just going to have to -- i

talked to cal tran a moment ago. there's a couple of suggestions, one is to go on detours. we'll talk about detours late they are morningful also we'll share with you part of the conversation that i had with the spokesperson about this detour tonight and how you can avoid it overnight. time now 6:07, a good heads up, our roads are wet right now throughout most of the bay area so be careful. >> that's right. you may not have rain in your area -- you may have not had rain in our area for the last few minutes but it is wet all over the bay. we keep watching highway 4, looks pretty good if you are watching up to concord from bay point. if you're in antioch you'll see

slower traffic through there. they usually turn the rights on at about 6:15. you have a few minutes and in the south bay we have slow traffic on some of the free ways but highway 17 seems to be slow. 6:08, let's go steve. >> thank you, sir. we we do have a little bit of rain holding on but we're about done. very cool readings, already cold readings up in the north bay. west of santa rosa 36. cool and breezy today and cold saturday morning, increasing clouds, rain comes back in in the evening and overnight on sunday. i remember wednesday when it was nice and sunny and warm, temperatures were in the 70s, not today. in just two days we dropped about 20 degrees. these are the highs today, 59 santa rosa, 58 san francisco.

and 59 in san jose which has light rain right now. they missed out on this. they had the weak front but it's coming in right there. that band of shower activity is starting to move off. still not too bad. about a tenth of an inch to maybe about a quarter. but not much of a system and it looks like it's about ready to fall apart and move out of the area although there could be a little snow mixed. 34 santa rosa, 37 napa. the temperatures continue to drop, fairfield at 40. a lot of 40s or 50s as you get closer to the cloud cover and the rain. but this is about another hour. we get on the dryer side of the system and wait for the next one which will be here saturday night but there's a little bit of a break. so morning rain but we're about done and then sun, clouds, cool and breezy though. highs, 50s and 6 0s.

it's a smart way to go. happening now in washington d.c., a congressional hearing on cell phone calls. now a house subcommittee is considering a bill that would allow telemarketers and debt collectors to contact customers on cell phones. now they can only use landlines. the proposed laws would interview with the do not call list. >> today at the g 20 summit in france, world leaders are looking at the ways the international monetary fund could help end europe's debt crisis. there's president obama there. now europe wants the imf to use

it's resources to help prevent the debt crisis from spreading to large economies like italy and spain. the united states is watching this closely because europe is the largest trading partner with the u.s. lawmakers gearing up for a vote. the prime minister's political future is hinging on this vote. his socialist party holds a narrow majority but several members are calling for his resignation after he gave up the plans for a voter referendum on the bailout plan. >> employers boosted hiring last month enough to lower the unemployment rate a bit. she's in the washington d.c. news room with what they're reporting about the job situation in the u.s. >> pam, the report shows the job market has improved only slightly in the last few months. the unemployment rate is down

to 9% from 9.1% the month before. employers added 80,000 jobs in october. now the most hiring was in professional and business services, leisure and hospitality and health care. manufacturing stayed flat. about 5,000 jobs were added but construction declined by about 20,000 jobs. government employment is down. in fact, one economist noted that there's a number of state, local and federal jobs down by about 600,000 since january of last year. film maker michael moore is continuing his visits to occupy wall street protests around the world. in denver, he had a confrontation with a reporter that questioned if his wealth made him part of the 1% the movement is against.

>> i want taxes raised on people that did well, including mine. >> how are you helping these people with your 50 million. >> i don't have $50 million. >> what's that it's rumored your worth. >> he's visited several cities around the country including oakland and san francisco. >> the activist group move on.org will rally outside the bank of america tomorrow. they're promoting bank transfer day. supporters nationwide plan to move their money to credit unions or community banks in a protest against big banks. all of this is a response to their $5 debt card fee. at least 650,000 people around the country signed up for credit union accounts since bank of america's announcement. that's according to the credit union national association. well, stanford's graduate school of business received a

$150 donation from venture -- capitalists. it is the largest donation made. the goal is to encourage students from all over the world to create businesses that drive social change and lifts people around the world out of poverty. >> california's high speed rail authority formerly asked for -- the billions of dollars it needs to start construction. they're seeking $3.3 billion in federal grants and 2.7 billion in state bonds to start the track through the central valley. that request goes to the governor and then the legislature. >> negotiations to end the 4 month nba lockout will resume tomorrow but they're talking about big changes. about 50 players held two separate conference calls with an antitrust lawyer.

two adults and two small children are seriously hurt. a vehicle plowed into them in orange county. a mother and her adult niece were pushing the children in stroller's cross the street when that car hit them yesterday afternoon. a three year old was pinned under the car. the driver told police she didn't see the victims in the road. she was also taken to the hospital for an unrelated medical condition. >> time spent with computers instead of people is leaving young adults socially impaired. that's what head hunters and business professionals are telling us here. they point to a lack of face to face people skills as being one of the reasons why they're having trouble getting jobs. he explained to us that online interactions aren't the same as those in the real world and needed to ace an interview. >> there's no human interaction by which you're learning and

seeing immediate reactions and repercussions. >> one head hunter tells us he first noticed the change in job seekers after the tech boom. >> time now, 6:26. the woman who is accusing justin bieber of fathering her child may face criminal charges. they could investigate the woman's claim that she had sex with justin last year. if those allegations are true, justin would have only been 16 years old and they would be considered statutory rape. the woman wants him to take a paternity test and pay child support. justin denies the baby is his. time now 6:27. occupy oakland protestors move inside city hall. >> could someone police call a police officer, your all under citizen's arrest. >> what happened and what did not happen during last night's marathon city council meeting. also the bay area neighborhood where you're most likely to get your bike stolen by thieves.

council meeting that ended late last night but it is still not clear what will happen next in the occupy oakland movement. we're joined now. she'll show us what happeneds when protestors moved inside city hall. >> well, the mayor told the folks inside the meet last night that she is not only monitoring the situation out here in tent city but also monitoring the businesses within a two block radius of this encampment. some say the camp is fine and others say its costing them revenue and when businesses talk about leaving the city, when it costs up to a million dollars to respond and clean up the riots, all of that matters, add to that the lack of communication between the protestors and the city and you have a problem. >> i have been talking to mayors across the country. in other cities the movements are talking to the city government. we need you to do that because

we need the city to move forward together. >> solutions is not as clear. the chamber of commerce says businesses are talk about leaving. at least 3 other businesses decided not to locate here and while most seem to agree a small minority of people are causing the majority of the problem, the question remains what should be done now. >> my message to you is like everyone else, the city council, the major, they have to choose which side they're on in this matter and i tell you, whatever your choice is, the people will be watching. >> now there are some that say the city council maybe closer to get the folks in this tent city to leave but that is not an official position. keep in mind however that last night several city council members and the mayor did speak out about their concerns that's a change several of them

support early on in this movement. one city council woman spent the night in one of these tents and what she had to say had a lot of people agreeing with her and more on that coming up. all right. time now 6:32. the oakland police department released statistics showing that many outsiders were arrested during that riot early yesterday morning. in all, the police say 103 people were taken into custody. 76 were men, 25 were women, two others are teenagers, only a third of them arrested were from oakland. at least 9 don't even live in california. >> they were among 200 people intent on an overnight confrontation with police. they're accused of causing the violence and vandalism that broke out of a peaceful day of protest. we talked to them after they got out of jail.

they deny they're anarchists but are not apologizing for the violence. >> these movements cannot just be these subdued demonstrations. people are angry. people have the right to be angry. >> the police showed us some of the items they say protestors used to attack police officer and sandize property, bricks, bottles, hammers and fire extinguishers filled with paint. >> a new challenge as cold wet weather moves in. hundreds of people remained camped out. some wonder if the weather will scare them off. they say not a chance. >> this weekend we were talking about setting up training about how to cope with cold weather situations. we have lots of knowledgeable people. >> people with occupy sf have been keeping in touch with people camped out in oakland. they say one of the men over

there suffered from hypothermia so the cold weather is a real concern. our coverage continues here. you will find slide shows of all of the events that have been tied to the occupy protests. >> 6:34, the website now reporting that one of the women that accused herman cain of sexual harassment received $45,000 as part of her settlement. that is more than the salary he remembers the woman receiving. he will be speaking to a conservative group. mitt romney is also expected to address the group. and mitt romney is also detailing how he says he would cut $500 billion in government spending if he makes it to the white house. >> like amtrak, the $1.6

billion borrowed from china to pay for it is not a good idea. >> he would make deep cuts in the aid to other countries and the federal arts and broadcasting programs and would repeal president obama's health care perform plan. >> a group of san francisco candidates is asking the fair practices commission to investigate questionable donations given to mayor ed lee. they say he is not doing enough to prevent illegal doe far money laundering by his supporters. a spokesman says his campaign is in compliance with the law. >> a woman hit and injured by a streetcar in san francisco is recovering right now. it happened before 5:30 last night at 19th avenue and randolph streets. the woman was taken to the hospital. she has nonlife threatening injuries. the cause of that incident is

under investigation. >> a bay area man used a unique method to locate ground zero for the city's bike theft. he looked at three months of craigslist postings reporting stolen bikes. the mission district lead the way. south beach tied for the second most with 16. he says his next project is to figure out how the thieves are getting the bikes. >> our time now 6:36. it's snowing in the sierra. brian is live right now. he's with us. brian, what is it like out there. >> yeah, it's cold. wax up your boards and have the chains in the car because winter has arrived in the sierra. take a look. a lot of drivers this morning are having to do a u-turn and head back down the mountain to buy their chains because they didn't come prepared. 3 to 4-inches of snow on the

ground. we went to where the ski resort is located. they picked up 6 to 8-inches of snow there and they've had the snow makers running all night long adding to it. so much so that they operated last weekend and then shut down, well starting today at 9:00, they have enough snow to begin 7 day operations, something they hope they can do all the way into the winter. some of the other resorts are firing up their snow makers too. so we might be skiing and snow border sooner than later. if you have to come up to the mountains, you have to be ready for winter travel because you just don't know when this happens, an this happens quite often up here. so just be ready for it. >> all right. i know the ski resorts are planning to open up and have some festivities. the businesses must be getting ready and hotels. anybody doing anything special

to get ready? >> the one thing i'll say from for example -- from experience is make sure you have a season pass. some of them are expected. you can still get great deals on a season pass. otherwise, the resorts, they've got their staff hired and they are ready to go just waiting for the snow. that's great news for all the jobs up here. >> great. that's good advice. >> yeah. >> i just saw some tweets from some of the resorts saying the you buy your pass now, pretty big savings. you can go. >> i know. >> steven will be happy he pronounced it. that's one of steve's things. we'll talk to him in a porning. let's look at the commute.

someone's car is conked out here. this morning has been -- because of the rain we've had a few more stalls, a few more collisions. nothing major yet though. we've been lucky. the toll plaza is backed up for a delay. westbound 4, slow traffic coming up to pittsburg but then it gets better. pleasant hill, walnut creek looking good. if you are driving southbound, 880 looks better. that's unusual. we've had a few crashes on northbound 17. 17 still looks pretty good to the valley. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sir, well starting to clear out here and the rain is winding down, ending at least until saturday evening and for everybody saturday night into sunday morning. cold air mass in place. no doubt about it. temperatures in the 30s and 40s and we'll end up with a lot of 50s and that will be it. now a couple of days ago -- people have short-term weather memories.

a couple of days ago it was sunny, warm, almost 80 degrees and in 48 hours we're looking attempts into the upper 50s. forecasted highs for santa rosa, san francisco. san jose at 59. most of this is about done. it's heading south and east of us. still not a bad little system. kind of opening the door for the next system to come in which will be saturday night or sunday. that's right there. looks like everything is about done here in the mountains unless you're right offshore. 31 degrees this morning. 32 under clear skies. windsor is 35. marshall 38 and fairfax 39. that's where the coldest temperatures are. 32 at the airport. 37 napa. i think it's a little cooler than that and 46 redwood city.

land city council meeting and the majority of the council was indicating they want to shut down the camp. the feelings came out last night after a very long very emotional city hall meeting. there was no formal vote and it's not clear what will happen next. >> new figures came out this morning from the labor department. they're showing a slight dip in the unemployment rate from 9.1% to 9%. as even though the economy only added 80,000 jobs last month, that's the lowest in 4 months. in san francisco the cold wet weather not damaging the spirits of occupy protestors. hundreds are still camped out. they're planning a teach in to talk about how to cope with the cold weather conditions. >> 22 people have died as a result of last weekend's snowstorm in the northeast. hundreds of thousands of people still had no electricity and some may not get it back on

until monday morning. it's forcing school districts to use more snow days this week which have to be made up. some of them are considering trimming winter or spring vacations to insure school does not stretch beyond june. >> work continues on the major construction project replacing doyle drive in san francisco. we'll talk about the road closures that could effect your weekend plans. >> i talked to them this morning, there's not a lot of people that drive overnight but they won't people to know about it. now that you can't get here from there and there is parts of san francisco because of cal trans is going to be closing it for construction. we drove the route this morning. it doubles as highway 1 will be closed at lake avenue all the way to the to plaza. it's the northbound direction.

it's part of the $1.1 billion construction project. they're going to be doing some work on the bridge. now, here is a map of what it looks like as well. so you have the map now. so the red part obviously is the part that's closed. i want to emphasize that it's just the northbound direction but if you don't get the picture, we have a photograph. here's the photographer. you can see a lot better. this is daylight photograph. so the northbound direction will be the right hand part of the scene and at the top of -- part of the screen and at the top of the screen, that is the bridge they'll be working on. now the time, it will be closed from 9:00 p.m. tonight to about 9:00 p.m. or 9:30 tomorrow morning. perhaps a little later tonight. perhaps 9:30 to 9:00 tomorrow morning. alternatives, there are plenty of them. steven that i work with, he tells me what you can do is take 25th avenue all the way to

the end where you get to lincoln and then make a right. lincoln will dump you off right across the way here. you can turn right on to the golden gate bridge from there. time now 6:48, jury deliberations start today in los angeles in the involuntary manslaughter case against dr. conrad murry. closing arguments ended after almost 6 weeks of testimony. they asked jurors to convict him. they say he gave michael jackson a fatal dose of prone and delayed calling 911. however, the defense says michael jackson injected himself and swallowed sedatives. they suggest dr. murry is only on trial because of michael jackson's status. >> 6:49 is the time right now. checking in for a look at the commute this morning. >> good morning. right now traffic is going to be moderately heavy.

we're starting off in concord. 680 looks good. if you're driving richmond, that is going to be lighter than it normally is. you will see the traffic is going to be fineful let's mover along and take a look at interstate 880. you can see that traffic is moderate here near high street. if you're driving this morning to the toll plaza, we have a back up of 15 minutes. let's go to steve. >> thank you. happy friday everybody. rain is about done here until tomorrow night and into sunday morning but we have a light rain, about a tenth of an inch to about a quarter. it really wasn't that much. they missed out on this but they're in on the cold temperatures this morning. sun and clouds, cool and breezy the rain ending. comes in the north bay first and for everybody overnight into sunday morning and then monday and tuesday looking dry now.

by this time next week we could be talking about more significant rain but we'll see how that develops. they're leaning that way. the system right there, you can see to the north clear, to the south that will head towards central and southern california and rotate out of the air. not much rain left. there's a little band hanging out over san jose. some of the higher elevations could be a little snow mix. windsor at 35, marshall at 38 and fairfax at 39. santa rosa down to 30. napa 37. a lot of 40s if you have the cloud cover. if you don't, then the temperatures are taking a turn to the south and you can see why. we have clear skies. there could be a pop up shower or two. i say that but it looks like dryer air will win out today and that's your system from saturday night into sunday. rain is about done.

rain ends, clearing, cool and breezy today. temperatures will be only on the 50s and a cold morning saturday. upper 20s, and 30s for many areas. clouds increase and the rain returns late in the afternoon. our morning rain here is just favoring san jose and that's about it. even the snow looks to be ending turning cloudily, mostly cloudy. 50s and 60s for us now. kick it out sunday night and monday tuesday looking better. >> groupon made it's public debut ringing the opening bell. it is $20 a share. it has not started trading yet to the general public. but is it a good investment. losses are down to 10 million for the third quarter but groupon's competition is growing and they spend a lot of money on marketing.

let's check in on the broader markets. what's effecting the dow. it's off 74 points to 11,972. like look at the board right now. unemployment rate down a little bit. fewer jobs created last month than forecast. the other thing about groupon is it's supposed to head up -- there's a lot of hype around the stock heading up, analysts say it's because they did not offer a lot of shares. >> a company wants to be the zappos of the art world. art.com wants to make it easy for people to try out art. it has a tool that lets people see what a framed piece of art would look like in a room. you have to up load a photo of your room and you can try it out. >> that's kind of neat. >> time now 6:53. got to see this, amazing new video of a whale sighting right there. just too close for comfort [ male announcer ] imagine there was a way

a whale sighting off the coast that's too close for comfort. look at this. two whales suddenly jumping out of the water, barely missing that surfer and two kayakers there. the surfer paddled out to see the whales but didn't think they would come that close.
