aircraft to its main base in sacramento. new at 6:00 we are getting word another iraq war veteran is hospitalized following a clash with police during occupy oakland protests. >> i'm an iraq war vet. i had two tours in iraq. i had two tours in iraq and one tour in afghanistan. >> a ktvu crew shot this video early yesterday morning, you can see cavon segevi being led away by police. earlier you can see him on the ground as he is being taken into custody. ktvu spoke to his friends tonight at highland hospital where they say he is now undergoing surgery for a lacerated spleen. another veteran scottolson suffered a head injury a few days ago when police tried to clear the protesters back then. we will have more tonight on the 10:00 news. b.a.r.t. police say there is no evidence that a driver who allegedly killed two occupy oakland protesters on wednesday night was under the influence of alcohol.

the accident at 11th and broadway was captured on cell phone video. b.a.r.t. police say officers responded and gathered information from the driver before they let him go on instructions from oakland police. the drivers name is not being released. oakland police are not investigating the accident. the city of oakland today released the cost associated with occupy oakland events. over all it has cost the city more than $1 million. that total includes $737,000 in personnelover time. $25,000 in glass replacement to frank ogawa buildings. and $100,000 in security enhancement to the oakland police departments website. bank customers are leaving their big banks. >> reporter: they hoped 1,500

new checking accounts at branches in october. that's three times the customers they usually get. this branch is going to be open late tomorrow to accommodate any new customers. >> a group of 40 parents with children in tow went to the banks to remove their money. >> my children, 2-1/2 and 3-1/2 now hoe how to share. we need our banks to learn how to share too. >> i think if there's enough people who are transferring their money that the banks are going to have to actually become better corporate citizens. >> a spokesperson for bells fargo say they are good corporate citizens -- for wells

hundreds of thousands of dollars. >> that was silican valley ceo and philanthropist mike fox sr. taking a stand in san jose. the 75-year-old pulled his money out of bank of america ahead of tomorrow's national bank transfer day. fox said he made the move in an effort to promote social and economic justice. fox runs the beer distributing company me fox & company in san jose. within the past hour a ktvu spoke with oakland business leaders just out of a meeting with mayor jean quan and over officials. the camp is hurting local businesses but as much as 40%. they are urging the city to keep people from camping overnight. the chamber says it wants oakland residents to write and call the city council representative to let them know their feelings about the occupy camp. the chamber president just told us the mayor seems noncommittal. >> we want people to respond in droves. >> she didn't really respond to

your appeal. >> i think that's fair to say. >> those occupying frank ogawa plaza tell ktvu they are not going any where and they plan to stay in the plaza as long as people want to be there. the white house today rejected a subpoena from house republicans from the failed company solyndra. the fremont company filed for bankruptcy and layed off 1,100 people after getting a million dollars loan. the white house -- pg & e crews uncovered a new problem with the very same pipeline that burst into a wall of flames in san bruno. our consumer editor tom vacar has the details on how that leak was spotted. >> early this morning while doing a high pressure water test of a 4-mile section of infamous line 132 in palo alto

a leak was detected. >> the drop in pressure was due to a very small leak. >> reporter: the leak did not occur at normal operating pressures but at extreme ones. >> if there are weaknesses in our pipe we want them to fail during this test. we want to identify them during these tests. >> reporter: the leak is some where in the 4 miles of pipe along pagenal road. a special guest will be poured into the pipe which will detect the leak. >> we can hopefully identify where the pinhole is exactly and we're going to make repairs. >> reporter: but some people worry that they're going to cut corners. >> are they going to get through it fast or they're going to do the work the way it's supposed to. >> we pay a lot of money every month for our bills and

everything to make sure that things are taken care of. it should not have come to the san bruno fire and the loss of life. >> reporter: two have found leak, only a few more tests remain. tom vacar, ktvu channel 2 news. a pedestrian hit by a numi train has taken a turn for the worse. the 19-year-old woman is in critical condition. authorities say she was hit by a light rail vehicle at 19th avenue and randolph street. happened about 5:30 last night. the cause at this point is still under investigation. in just a few hours there will be a major road closure in san francisco leading to the golden gate bridge. park pre precidio will be closed from tonight to tomorrow morning as part of the doyle drive project. what was once a toxic site in san francisco is now ready for new homes, parks and shops

to be built. today's city state and federal officials celebrated the opening of the road. the environment protection agency provided $1 million toward the clean up of the site. >> actually came from 1906 rubble and debris from the earthquake. a lot of it contaminated. no one wanted to build on it for a long period of time. so epa in the state of california came together. >> developers say the clean up and construction created more than 500 jobs. senator barbara boxer has introduced legislation to help homeless veterans. the bill would add a check box on tax returns where people could make a voluntary donation to a new homeless veterans assistance fund. boxer says the bill would give americans a simple way to help the estimated 107,000 veterans who sleep on the street. a drug take back drive netted more than 7.5-tons of unwanted and expired medicine

in the mission district. three officers were treated and released. another left the hospital on wednesday. >> more than 100 sex offenders were arrested on monday as part of the operation boo. each year police round up sex offenders while kids are trick or treating. this year 119 sex offenders were arrested for several reasons. >> it gives us an opportunity to know where transient offenders are. even though they're on gps, we know they're in a security area. >> so operation boo was successful and police say they plan to do it next year. prosecutors say 39-year-old michael scott bechtold forged checks worth $64,000 from the rancho society firefighters

association. he spent the money on season tickets to the sharks and on a trip to disneyland. the bay area recreational crab season is starting just six hours from now. john fowler live in emeryville with the high hopes that fishermen have for this season, john. >> reporter: absolutely. these are recreational crab pots. some are already set off. these weekend's trips sold out. last minute craps for what they call combination sports fishing, rock fish and crab. >> sorting the crabs out and measuring and things like that, so yeah you can kind of feel like a commercial crabber for a day. >> at san francisco's fisherman's wharf. a tease of what's to come. >> this is good. >> linda almanza from houston got her first ever taste of dungenous. these crab kept dormant on ice but when fresh everyone agrees

they are even tastier. amanza says that she is coming back. >> i'm a dungenous crab lover. >> dozens of crab traps wait. >> reporter: in ten days commercial crabbers will begin dropping their traps. and after a good year last year hopes are high. >> the weather is calm, nobody gets hurt and we bring a lot of crab into town. deck hands today preparing the crab pots and sewing into the wire cotton ws. sort of crab escape hatches if something goes wrong. >> if you lose the trap, the crabs can still get out. >> so there'll be more crab next year, more eggs. >> what the crab looks like and it gives us an idea of how big the crab is. >> the boilers are already set up for tomorrow's first crab of the season. reporting live in emeryville,

john fowler, ktvu channel 2 news. the cold weather here in the bay area also means more snow and more headaches in the sierra. >> the highway patrol is blaming the slow down to wintry weather. they warn drivers that black ice may pose danger on the roads tonight. our chief meteorologist bill martin joins us with the wintry conditions expected tonight. >> reporter: two days ago it was 80 degrees. today temperatures 15, 20 degrees cooler than that. frost this morning, valley fog and snow in the mountains. just 54 degrees outside, two days ago san jose was 74 degrees. it's a 20-degree drop off. so we're definitely in that time of year where get the umbrellas and jackets and the things that you need as you start to go about your business

the next few day, the next few weeks. the next five or six months because we are really into it now. we're getting into winter and the long range models indicate that we're going to see a little bit of winter every week as we go into the next few weeks. so we'll watch it for you. the story up on the mountains, it's a winter watch because they're not watching for this system to get in here saturday night into sunday morning. maybe a foot of snow at the highest elevations. snow as low as 4,000 feet. that put a little snow on mount hamilton. here's the system as it comes in. cold air doesn't hold a lot of water. the warm ones do, the latitude ones bring rain. big rain. this system is the one yesterday and coming one will bring showers to the mountains but they're not real productive as far as the rainfall totals. as we head into saturday morning there'll be a chance of showers but they'll be very, very light. here's the computer model tomorrow morning.

showers offshore. there's the clouds right. here they come, boom. not well organized. saturday at 3:00 p.m. it's wet in san rafael. saturday afternoon, evening it's raining. that's saturday night. front goes through, cold unstable air behind makes a few scattered showers this morning. i have to tell you the weekend is not a wash out. this looks like it's an overnight event with some clearing on sunday. just be prepared for a stray sprinkle on sunday afternoon. so what did i just say? tomorrow looks pretty darn good. late in the day things break down. the rain starts 3:00 in the north bay. you have most of the bay sunday to get around. but remember, there'll be some scattered sprinkles and there will be some very cool daytime highs. thaáus just the way -- that's just the way it's going to be. the weekend is not a wash out, your weekday is not a wash out.
