cool today. little breezy, fog, sunny, chilly. highs, about 60, 61 for everybody. here's sal. >> steve, good morning. traffic is moving along pretty well around the bay area. let's go outside and look at some of the live pictures. interstate 880 is moving along pretty well. north and southbound with no major problems. also, the traffic is looking good getting to the bay bridge toll plaza. if you're driving on the commute in san francisco, northbound 101 traffic is very nice up to the downtown area. southbound traffic is nice as you pass mission boulevard. it's 4:30. let's go back to the desk. topping our news this morning: a pga pipeline rupture on the peninsula over the weekend is raising new safety concerns this morning. tara is in wood side this morning where the line that ruptured is the same one involved in last year's deadly

san bruno explosion. >> reporter: that's right. pte is working on replacing that burst section of pipe and will be retesting it later this week. right now we're in a wood side neighborhood, across the street where line 132 runs. yesterday afternoon around 3:30. pge crews had to climb over an embankment to access the line. it'll the peninsula's main one for natural gas. the line ruptured sending up to a foot of dirt and rocks onto 280 forcing crews to shut down the freeway while they cleaned the mess. pge was performed hydrostatic tests and found a weak spot. >> we were trying to achieve a water pressure test. if this line holds at this level of pressure, we'll operate at a lower pressure for natural gas. >> reporter: now pge says the pipe most likely burst because it had a dent into it. we'll tell you what could have

caused the dent and what neighbors have to say about the whole ordeal. >> well the rupture comes days after crews discovered a leak in palo alto on the same line. pge documents showed that part of the gas line contains reused pipe more than 60 years old. the documents also show the public utilities commission warned pge about the dangers of reusing salvaged pipe. well federal investigators are helping determine the cause of a fire that killed five people at of a monterey county home care facility for the disabled. the fire in the town of morena, four bodies were found in the home shortly after the fire. a fifth was discovered sunday morning. one of the victims was a 24-year-old woman. her aunt says the woman was the

only person in the facility who could walk on her own. >> two other people inside the home were sent to the hospital. investigators say it's still unclear how the fire started. classes at ann sabrato high school in morgan hills will resume today without a freshman girl killed in a drive by shooting wednesday night. they also arrested a 17-year-old boy. now 14-year-old tara romera was standing outside an apartment complex when she was shot and killed. three others were wounded. investigators are trying to determine whether two armed

robberies happened. another happened in concord about a half hour later. masked men have held up several store and gas stations in the concord area in recent weeks. well, tomorrow is november 8th. election day. the candidates for san francisco mayor are getting up bright and early on this final day before voters head to the polls. they're all planning a long and busy day on the campaign trail. there are 16 candidates in the crowded race. voters will be using that system called ranked choice voting, which allows them to rank their favorite candidates. >> most of the people i talked with on the streets have said you know, i would like to vote you for first but i don't know what to do with the second and third choice. >> you have to treat every single voter as a potential voter for you.

the hospital handled the incident. >> they didn't send out a memo or some new protocol or some safety alert. >> a hospital spokeswoman says nurses safety is of the highest importance. hospital security has been a sticking point on ongoing contract negotiations. nurses want more of a say in the hospital's security procedures. san jose police are warning an entire neighborhood this morning after a teenaged girl was sexually assaulted. a man forced the 14-year-old victim to a secluded area. police were called to the area by another teenaged girl after she couldn't find her friend. officers found the victim on a pedestrian bridge and saw the suspect following her. he ran away from police, but here's the description. the attacker is described as a

latino in his early 30s with heavyset build and facial hair. a pleasanton teenager, missing since halloween is back home this morning. police found 15-year-old shelby harris with 25-year-old gavin mcfate early saturday morning. they were find in stanislaw county. police say harris wasn't hurt and is cooperating with investigators. allegations of a child sex abuse scandal is sending shock waves through penn state university this morning. coming up in just about eight minutes, the accusations being leveled against a former football coach and top school officials who have now stepped down from their positions. ongoing coverage of occupy

protests, two men are facing possible charges this morning after being accused of attacking members of occupy san jose. a member claims that the men tried to steal a luggage cart before hitting and attacking another occupy member. the men are accused of using force on another female member before running away. police arrested the men a short time later. now occupy oakland demonstrators are not letting the rain and cold clear out their encampment in front of city hall. group is sending out tweets asking for supplies to help weather the conditions. 4:38 is the time right now. want to get a complete look at traffic so far this morning. good morning, sal. >> good morning, pam. we're off to a decent start here, if you're driving, let's say to anywhere in the east bay, i think you'll like what you

see. 80 westbound looks pretty good. no major problems at the bay bridge toll plaza, coming into san francisco. we have a nice-looking drive across the bridge into the city. this is a look at 280. just a couple cars out there. think the time change, people are up and at em. right now it's nice and clear. at 4:38, let's go to steve. >> system on late saturday and sunday, few little stray showers last night. that was about it. we're on drier side now, patchy fog is formed. you get that when you get the rain. we'll have to deal with that more inland than on the coast. you can see everything's going down from the north. that will take care of everything. sunny day, mostly sunny, but it'll be cool and breezy. northwesterly wind. temperatures will struggle to come out of the 30s, 40s, couple low 50s. we'll end up with 50s and 60s. it'll be very warm today, mostly sunny, waiting for the next system, it looks like one of

two cars were racing, clipped each other and spun out of control. one of the drivers, 17-year-old pablo lopez was killed. two others in the hospital. police arrested the driver of the second car, 21-year-old israel gomez. he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. in sanoma county, investigators are trying to figure out what caused a car crash that killed two men. that happened early yesterday morning in a rural area near petaluma. the chp says the car slammed into a tree killing the two people inside. the road was wet at the time, it's not yet known if rain was a factor in that deadly crash. today: greece's prime minister will meet with opposition leaders to discuss who will become the country's new leader. after george papandraeou agreed to step down.

suspected child abuse. both stepped down from their posts yesterday. police arrested jerry sandusky on charges he sexually abused eight boys over a 15-year period. >> jury's very depressed. the knowledge that regardless of whether he proves his guilt or innocence, people will think he did this stuff. >> prosecutors say one coach reported witnessing sandusky assault a boy in the showers. sandusky retired from the school in 1999 and ran a charity to help at-risk youth. jury deliberations resume today in the involuntarily manslaughter case against michael jackson's doctor. jurors spent their first day deliberating on friday. now so far they've had no questions for the judge or have made any evidence requests.

prosecutors contend that dr. conrad murray gave a fatal dose of the anesthetic propofol. the defense claims jackson injected himself. more than a week after a powerful snow storm in the northeast, some 80,000 people in connecticut are still without power. the state's largest utility missed its goal to recover power by midnight. they now say it could be wednesday before power is back on for everyone. 4:47 is the time right now. several earthquakes have shaken up central oklahoma, the strongest was a 5.6 magnitude quake that hit saturday night, just hours after a 4.7. at least 10 aftershocks were reported on sunday. this home we're looking at, was at the epicenter of saturday's largest earthquake and the site of some of the worst damage. >> it went on and on and on.

i kept thinking it'd be over. >> you could hear these real muted booms. it was really, something i've never experienced before. >> damage was also reported at st. gregory's university where part of an administration building collapsed. oklahoma had about 50 earthquakes a year until 2009, then the numbers spiked to more than 1,000 in 2010. hundreds of truckers who have been stranded in the mount everest area of nepal are finally able to leave now that the weather has cleared. over the past week, all flights out of the village that is the gateway to mount everest were grounded because of dense fog.

>> they're now buried on small plains in catmando. supporters in california will hold a news conference in downtown san francisco. the group claims that the feds are over-stepping their constitutional authority by ignoring local laws and cracking down on california's pot clubs. the lawsuit demands an immediate end to the raids and the arrests. california's only health insurance retail store is set to open in san francisco this morning. blue shield of california is opening a store inside the lucky supermarket on fulton street near masonic avenue. it's a convenient way for people to get health and wellness information. that store opens at 10:00 today.

san francisco, northbound 101. that traffic continues to move along very nicely. approaching the 80 split. also the morning commute of the bay bridge toll plaza, only a small delay here. no major problems on the upper deck of the bay bridge. even some of the road work is already gone. we have a decent commute into the city. and if you are driving in the south bay, northbound 280 traffic looks pretty good. getting up to highway 17. northbound 17 traffic is looking good approaching 280. just a couple spots where there might be a little crowding. it's still early enough for you to get decent drive all over the south bay. 4:54. let's go to steve. >> we do have mostly clear skies, patchy fog out there. 30s, 40s on the temps. we have to deal with midland fog and coming doubt out of the north. westerly, northwesterly breeze. northwest 7 at sfo 36, santa

rosa. livermore is closed. 34 redwood city. san jose holding out. loss more fog and clouds down towards santa clara valley. we'll keep our attention on this system developing out here. it's about three days away though. monday, tuesday and wednesday, looks good. looks like increasing clouds with rain on the way. two systems as we look ahead. today, after a chilly start, maybe reduced visibility with fog. it'll be mostly sunny, dry pattern for a couple days. that fog will be increasing. more so inland than on the coast. we're just flip-flopping the pattern. slightly warmer, not much, just a little bit. cool, chilly start, cold start. cool, little bit of a westerly, northwesterly breeze. highs close to 60, 61. redwood city, danville, 62. those will be the hot spots just because. tuesday into wednesday, increasing clouds thursday. rain could come in thursday.

new york city marathon. more than 47,000 runners took the start of the 5-4-0 race. two hours, five minutes, six seconds. more than two minutes faster nan the previous record. he's also the first person to win the boston and new york marathons in the same year since 2002. it is coming up on 5:00, there are new concerns this morning over the safety of pge pipe lines. the connection between this weekend's rupture and the line that exploded in san bruno. plus: san francisco's election day, just one day away. the early results that show one group will make a very big impact.
