well good morning to you. welcome to mornings on 2. i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's monday, november 7. pg&e crews, they will be back in woodside today after the pipeline rupture during the water pressure test. it happened yesterday afternoon along interstate 280. it's forcing the lanes to shut on down. we've got a live look explaning why they say the rupture is helping the company. >> reporter: well, you know, as you remember with the san bruno disaster that actually drove pg&e to conduct this type of testing, so even though that this triggered a mud slide on to a freeway, pg&e is pleased that they found this weak spot before it became an actual disaster. we are standing in a park located on the backside of the freeway where the mud slide happened. and now, well, pg&e will be out here around noon to remove the ruptured section of that gas line here as the crews have

declined a 250-foot embankment to inspect that pipe yesterday afternoon. even though the high pressure and the water test, they detected a weak spot that pg&e is calling it a success. this is the main pipeline. >> it's exactly how they indicated it, the 1947, 24-inch seamless pipeline. that's what is in the ground there and that is the the piece that failed -- and that is the piece that failed. >> reporter: neighbors who live on top of the pipe, a bit shaken up, but overall, relieved that this test, you know, it worked. >> so we should be using up-to- date technology and test the entire line. and that is a completely good look and reasonable solutions for you and to this problem. they will now work with the california public utilities commission and perhaps the third party to investigate what causes the weakness. and pg&e officials say the spot

where the rupture happened had a dent in it. most likely from damage from the back color or some type of construction or repair work. hoping to rebuild the damaged section tomorrow. by the end of the week, they will have it ready and then retested. we are live in woodside, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, thank you. and the rupture comes just days after pg&e crews, they discovered a leak in pal alto on friday. it happened during hydrostatic testing. a part of the gas line contains reused pipes that is more than 60 years old. the documents also show the public utilities commission warned pg&e about the dangers of reusing salvaged pipes. our time now is 7:03 and the polls open in just 24 hours now to tell you where voters will be choosing from a very crowded

field of candidates for the mayor. tuesday is officially election day. but they have casted in their letters. that's one of the things they will be determining on tuesday, who gets that from san francisco city hall as the next mayor here. now, even on the sunday afternoon, you know, inside the elections office here at city hall, there were long lines of people here as folks, they came to turn in some of their ballots by hand. they must be received by 8:00 p.m. tomorrow. and so you know, if you have not mailed it already, postmarks don't count. and if you have not mailed that already, it suggests that you turn it in by hand like these people were doing yesterday. there are 16 candidates that are just running for san francisco mayor. this is the final stretch for them. so there were several campaigns to get out to vote events for all the candidates over the weekend. the campaign activity continues this morning. and this morning, the theme seems to be campaigning with commuters as they head into work. and all of them, they have campaign events at 7:30 this

morning at various stops and stations. as for the clear front runner among the candidates, it is very hard to predict because they will be using the great choice voting to select the mayor. that's when they will get to pick their first, second, and third choice for mayor. so we have a graphic to explain how it works. and if no candidate receives the majority of the first choice votes, then a process of redistributing the votes will be taken place. first the candidates with the fewest are eliminated in this case, candidate b. then voters that will be choosing this eliminated candidate will have their vote transferred to the second choice candidate. if the additional second choice votes give them a majority, then that is the candidate who will be winning. if not, the process of eliminating the candidates and redistributing votes continues. now, they will also be using this method to select a district attorney. and a new sheriff. and again, election day, it's tomorrow. all ballots must be, well, received here at the elections office at city hall by 8:00 tomorrow. live in san francisco, ktvu

channel 2 news. >> thank you. time now is 7:05 and with them taking advantage of the early voting. san francisco voters have been able to vote at city hall or mail-in absentee ballots since october 11. the political consulting firm told chronical that, well, according to their calculations, 79% of voters have already cast their ballots. well ahead of other neighborhoods. 7:06, two hours from now, president obama will announce a new program to help unemployed veterans who are struggling to find work. coming up at 7:15, a live report from our washington, d.c. newsroom where they will be announcing how congress is expected to weigh on in on employment help for vets. in the meantime, the defense secretary says that he is considering making cuts in areas that are previously considered off limits, such as medical and retirement benefits as well as reducing the number

of troops. and he is under orders to cut the pentagon spending, which is double to just $700 billion a year since the september 11 attacks. he says that meeting the deficit reduction targets might also require another round of base closings. our time now is 7:06. well, the police search continues now for three suspects involved in the overnight police chase that began out here. police say that an officer spotted the three in a stolen truck at about 3:00 a.m., where there would have been a string of robberies. they lead them on the chase, which ended after the truck salled and the suspects ran -- stalled and the suspects ran away. they are waiting to see if that it belongs to any of the victims. >> 7:07, san francisco police are investigating a shooting. and officers, they found a man in their 40s, lying on the sidewalk near taylor street and north point yesterday evening.

he had been shot several times, but he is expected to survive. and there is no word on what lead up to the gunfire. police are still hooking for suspects. new complaints against the security company hired to patrol a san jose neighborhood. and the mercury news reports several people in san jose's neighborhoods, that they are unhappy with at-world security. neighbors say guards with the companies, they often harassed and assaulted kids in the neighborhood. san jose hired most securities to help patrol the neighborhoods after the court mandate. so far,ed admirable security, they have not responded to the complaints. >> all right, time now is 7:08 and sal is back and you're watching everything out there. how are we looking? >> it is looking pretty good, i would say. not a lot of major stuff going on.

it has been the same. we have not had any majorcrashes on most bay area roads. i hope i did not jinx it there with minor collisions here and there, but again, nothing major. we are hoping that it will be staying that way. take a look at the peninsula now with some slowing, getting up to highway 101 out here. as i move the maps here, i want to go on out here where northbound 101, right before the capital express way and the accident on the right shoulder, you can see the indicator there, just two cars that are not causing a big traffic jam. and in both directions, they are getting a little bit slow. and 85 coming on through here. and up to cupertino, a couple slow spots on the way. 7:09, we'll go back to steve. >> low clouds around, some patchy fog and maybe a little mist with that, but mainly just

will be the case today and into tomorrow and then we'll turn that system slowly on wednesday and that might be the warmest day of the week. the system is developing here. it will just kind of cut off from the jet stream and move on towards us as it gets bumped on later on in the week. and about four to five times a day here. not that much warmer with the patchy fog, a little mist in there and a northwest breeze should be taking care most of it. 50s and 60s, under sunny to mostly sunny skies. i just couldn't find much of the difference for the highs today. they all said 60 or 61. that's what we're going with. santa cruz at 62. redwood city, those will be some of the warmer spots. 59 san francisco. and not much of a change on tuesday into wednesday. we'll be a little warmer as we hit the south wind in advance. it looks like a warmer system as it arrives on thursday and friday and maybe rain for us, nothing in the sierra, with

7:14, u.n. nuclear officials have new reports that iran's government, they now have the skills to build a nuclear weapon. and the report says that the iranian government overcame technical problems with the help of foreign scientists. and documents indicate a former soviet weapons scientist as well as experts from pakistan and north korea. they all helped iran. the u.n. nuclear watchdog agency will be releasing a report this week on iran's efforts to obtain the nuclear technology. and your time is 7:15. president obama and congress has found something that they could agree on, finding jobs for veterans. we are live in our washington, d.c. newsroom with a new help for veterans if the president will be announcing it this morning. allison? >> reporter: and dave, we are covering two developments here today that could help bring down the high unemployment rate for america's veterans. the labor department estimates about 12% of the vets who served in the military since 9/11 and they are now out of work. and that is higher than the

national unemployment rate of 9%. ed today, president obama meets with the top veterans groups like the american legion and iraq and afghanistan. and the veterans of america. he's announcing that the vets could download the veterans gold card, issued by the labor department, giving them access to free job counseling and president obama is promoting this website. my-- my next move for veterans. they are expected to take uplegislation tonight to provide tax breaks for companies that hire veterans. right now they could have enough bipartisan support to last. i'm allison burns, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, allison, thank you. time is now 7:16. new this morning, they said that a fourth woman is now coming forward accusing republican presidential hopeful herman cain of sexual harassment. now, she said that she and that

woman will be holding a news conference later today. in the meantime, a new poll is out showing the sexual harassment allegations against herman cain may be damaging his campaign for the white house. the new poll shows that the percentage of the republicans who view herman cain favorably dropping 9 percentage points down from 66 a week ago. however, he says he has no regrets. i would do it all over again if i had to. i wanted to send a message to not only our supporters, but to everyone else that we have nothing to hide, i have nothing to hide. >> at first he denied knowing anything about these allegations and then later admitted that he was familiar

with them. one that would extend the plastic bag band from supermarkets to all -- banned from all supermarketers to restaurants. they will be introducing the bill next week and proposing charging customers up to 25 cents for each bag. 7:17, san jose mayor chuck reed says he could declare a fiscal emergency if pension reform negotiations don't go anywhere. the city is projecting up to a $115 million deficit for next year. he told the mercury news that such a declaration is a risk that the city might have to take to avoid insolvency. they are currently negotiating with unions who proposed a deal saving about $500 million over five years, but some in city hall say that figure is overstated. oakland police are

investigating two shootings that left three people wounded. paramedics took one person to highland hospital. about ten hours earlier, a gunman shot two people in east oakland. police say they arrived at the scene at 18th and rose dale to find two wounded people inside the car. and the paramedics took them to the hospital. their conditions, they have not been released. no arrests have been made. time now is 7:19. well the 49ers, their record has improved now to 7-1. and after another victory on the road. they took advantage on that one for the next play. look at what he did. a touchdown pass to bruce miller. and david akers kicked four

field goals. and they set a record with their fifth straight 100-yard rushing game. and the niners won about 19-11. and now the raiders, well, they fell to 4-4 after losing to the denver broncos. that was a pretty touchdown though. and the quarterback made his first start, throwing three interceptions though. broncos score the game's last 24 points. and with that, they just dominated the raiders. the broncos ended up winning. and the polls open in just about 24 hours. how you can help speed things up on election day. >> also, it all happened overnight. a troubled actress checks in and then checks right out of jail. good morning, san francisco traffic, northbound and southbound 101 looking pretty good. a little bit up there and check out their downtown commute coming up.

there are more than 80 candidates seeking 50 seats around the county. voters will be making their choice in the race for the mayor. and also there will be a seat on the city council and also deciding the fate of dozens of very important school board races. and with the mail-end deadline approaching, the officials out here are encouraging people to just walk on in their ballots. all of them need to be received by 8:00 p.m. tomorrow night in order to be counted. the voters, you can drop off your ballots at any polling location or get to register our voting office downtown fairfield. overnight, lindsay lohan checked in and checked out of the los angeles county jail. the troubled actress was released due to overcrowding around 2:00 this morning.

they have been talking to investigators this morning, kraig debro, what are they telling you? >> well, they could be connected because the suspects in both cases are wearing similar clothing. behind me is the shop n go. this has never happened here, another person works right here and said that it has not happened here for the 17 years of living here. it happened last night. two men came into the store and basically, wearing, well, halloween masks. and ended up robbing the store. not only the store, but a person inside. and clayton police, they were all called on out here, starting their investigation. calling it the walnut creek police. they said that the dog had a strong scent up until 100 yards from here where they believe that the two suspects got into

the car. now the second robbery, it happened at the drive-it in theater and police said that the men in this robbery were wearing some, well, really weird halloween costumes. >> the customer was leaving the store when he was taken on by two men wearing halloween-such masks. they robbed him at gunpoint and robbed the store. >> reporter: the description is a little vague. this is the drive-in theater called the slaughter drive-in. a robbery happened here around 8:45 last night. we're not clear on the exact description of the two men here that were wearing masks. you try to contact concord police. there were some similarities and a massive look like a skeleton-type of mask. again trying to reach concord police and talk to them about the robbery. reporting live, i'm kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news.

>> thank you, kraig. new this morning, investigators are looking for the cause of an early morning fire. it started shortly after 3:00 a.m. not far from 8:8-- not far from 880. at one point, a small explosion blew out some windows, but investigators believe the blast came from materials inside one of the businesses here and they do not believe that this fire was intentionally set. no one was hurt. time now is 7:33. well, nurses are debating the medical center in oakland and demanding tighter security after the nurse was attacked by the patient. and staff members, they said that they grabbed the nurse's throat, put her in the head lock and then punched her. and the patient was not arrested and has been moved to another part of the hospital. and the hospital staffers say that workplace safety has been exchanged for some time. >> we have attempted to put a

proposal on the table for violence in the workplace, which has been continually, you know, ignored and rejected by management. >> and so the hospital spokeswoman says that the safety of nurses is of the highest importance and that the incident is under investigation. and san jose police are warning the entire neighborhood to be on alert this morning after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted. and police say that it happened on saturday night for the man forcing the 14-year-old victim to the secluded area out here. police were called to the area by another teenage girl when she could not find her friend. police found the victim on the pedestrian bridge and they say that they saw the suspect here following her. and that suspect, they then ran from police. and now he is described as a latino man in his early 30s with the heavy set build and slight facial hair. if you have any information, please contact san jose police. it is 7:34. this morning lawyers will finally review the grand jury

transcriptions in the fatal shooting of the german tourist in san francisco. last week a court reporter failed to deliver those transcripts on time. six men are accused of killing the 50-year-old last year near union square. investigators say that the german tourist was caught in the cross fire of the shootout between the rival gang members. two men are facing possible charges this morning after being accused of attacking members of occupy san jose. the occupy member e-mailed us of the pictures near city hall from saturday night and they claimed that the men tried to steal a luggage cart before hitting and attacking another occupy member. the men are then accused of using force on another female member before running away. police arrested the men a short time later. an occupy portland demonstrators are not letting the rain and cold clear on up

there. they are asking for a surprise to help them cope with the conditions for the tarps, rain gears and the hot liquid to keep warm. time now is 7:35. his city's occupying encampment had to be shut down. they rushed her to the hospital. that's where she later died. the cause of death is not known. the mayor of vancouver did not give a timeline for when they will be forced to leave that city. more occupy arrests were made in atlanta on saturday. police arrested close to 20 people when they refused to leave the downtown park. and now this morning, we have learned that atlanta police arrested about five more people overnight when they refused to leave that same park. and occupy atlanta protesters say not being able to camp out in the park is

unconstitutional. time now, 7:36, the defensive coordinator for penn state football team is facing charges of child sexual molestation. police escorted and handcuffed about 67-year-old jerry sandusky on saturday. coming up for you at 7:45, why two top penn state university officials are facing scrutiny from prosecutors. 7:36, students at morgan hills and the high school here, they are mourning a classmate killed in the drive-by shooting on friday night. police arrested four men and two are from morgan hills. and they also arrested a 17- year-old boy. police say that all five are gang members and the victims, they are not. now, the 14-year-old died at the scene. three other teenagers are recovering from gunshot wounds. and a pleasantton -- a

pleasanton man is under arrest. police found the 15-year-old with this man early yesterday morning at the motel. they were booked on a felony warrant. where harris was not hurt and is cooperating with investigators. time now is 7:37. well, new rapid transit bus centers here might be up and running within five years. on friday, they released the environmental impact report for that proposed service. they would be using the dedicated bus lanes for them between mission and lombard streets. they also reduced delays, causing between $190 to $130 million. let's see how thins are moving on the -- things are

moving on the road this morning. >> yes, good morning to you. and today, right now, traffic is getting a little busy for you and interesting to see the commute here and it feels a little later than what it should be because of the time change. this afternoon, that means you'll be driving home in darker weather. darker weather, darker skies. darker light. anyway, you know what i'm trying to say, right? anyway, i'm having a lot of time trying to say it. crossing 880. that traffic will be busy for you. and steve will be coming up with them. he's a smart man. the westbound bay bridge, that's going to be backed on up here as you drive to the toll plaza. although, you know, you are already seeing signs that it is improving after 8:00. we're looking at walnut creek in concord. and southbound 680, just near, well, the tree boulevard exit. an accident on the shoulder. westbound highway, and out here at bay point and again in concord as you move over to the east shore freeway. we have a really bad commute for you on 8820.

it gets better by the time you reach dublin. they are slow right off the bat at 58 to, all the way down here. let's go to steve. >> yes, i think that they will be covering it. just scattered darkness coming in later. now the fog is on out there. again, some of this, it is truly fog. we're starting to turn, well, from coastal fog back over to the inland fog after getting the rain. some of that, you know, it will be cold and misty. and it is a cold morning. 30s and 40s. temperatures, the coolest i saw was kentwood. a lot of mid-30s around. not just the north bay. tomorrow, low 60s. everything is coming right down to the northwest. and that is a cold direction

after the system that came on by late saturday and into sunday and, you know, actually, this will be sweeping on out of here, cold all the way down to southern california where they had record lows yesterday. well, some 30s, a lot of 30s and 40s. but they were 49 and now 42. some 30s up here, we did see that and 37 out here. 34 up here. santa rosa around 34 and 36. so i think until thursday evening, things are all right. the jet stream and the storm tracks stays to the north. they will come up a little bit, dealing with the night and morning fog. no doubt about that. slightly warmer with some fog on out there as you saw it.

italy has too much debt to be rescued by an international bailout. and the italian premier reports that they are rejecting reports about plans to resign saying they are without foundation. over the weekend, thousands of people protested against all of them, calling for him to step on down, so a new government could push on through the economic reforms. and today, greece's prime minister will be meeting with the the country's main opposition leader to discuss who will become that country's leader. that is after the prime minister agrees to step on down. they were outraged and eventually backed away from that idea. whoever becomes a new prime minister will only serve until the february 19 general election. that's according to a new

report in the sacramento b, they expect california to face a deficit billions of dollars for you, higher than the one projected by governor jerry brown. and they said that they obtained a legislative memo, estimating a budget deficit next fiscal year of $5 billion to about $8 billion. and that is in contrast to the governor's projected $3.1 billion deficit. prosecutors says that they lied to a grand jury and failed to report suspected child abuse. both of them stepped down from their jobs late yesterday.

and in sonoma county, they are trying to figure out what caused that car crash that left two men dead. this happened near on out here where the car slammed into a tree and killed the two people inside. the road was wet at the time. still not clear if rain was a factor in the deadly crash. 7:53 from the workplace to the classroom and a new survey finds that sexual harassment is a growing problem in schools. and the survey finds that 48% of junior high and high school students are experiencing the sexual harassments in the last year. 56% of girls say that they have been harassed compared to 40% of the boys. and only 9% of students reported a sexual harassment incident to a teacher or other adult. the survey comes from the american association of university women. and the california supreme court will hear a case tomorrow to decide whether or not the company should make sure that

good morning, welcome back to mornings on 2. i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. it's monday, november 7. and in just a couple of hours right now, pg&e repair crews will be back in woodside and they will be digging up the pipeline that ruptured during the water pressure test. now, this happened yesterday afternoon right along interstate 280 and the rupture briefly shut down the northbound lanes of 280 after a wall of mud and debris slid on to the northbound lanes. the ktvu joining us there. she is at the scene to tell us that pg&e and what they are saying about all of this. >> reporter: well, since san bruno, they have tested 120 miles of pipelines. they still have 30 miles more to go and they had need to complete that before the end of this year because that's when the winter arrives, and people, they will be be using a lot

more of their heat. now, we want to show you the right here behind us. take a look at it had, a -- a look at this, a group of engineers here. they will be taking up a 1.5 mile hike to a site where all of this happened just to sort of inspect it. we're on the park on the backside of the freeway, close to where the testing and the rupture happened. crews had to climb about 250 feet to inspect the pipe yesterday afternoon. and pg&e had been conducting a high-pressure water test. detecting a weak spot. it burst triggering a mud slide shutting down the freeway for several hours. now, this line is the peninsula's main gas line running all the way on out here to san francisco. >> this is what we're trying to find. raising pressure well and above over what the pipeline could normally operate.

we have a live look to explain why that's the case. >> yes, it's all because of something called ranked choice voting where they will be able to select their first, 2nd, and 3rd choice for who they want to serve as mayor here in city hall. and thousands of people, they have already made their choice, and many by early votes and the mail-in ballots. these are some of the long lines in san francisco yesterday afternoon. if you have not mailed that in yet and you can mail it in hand if you wanted it to count. there are 16 candidates that are oning for san francisco mayor and this is the final stretch for them. there were several campaigns and get out to vote events for the candidates over the weekend.

as for a clear front runner among these candidates, it is very hard to predict because of the ranked choice voting process. it did give them more to think about before they cast their votes. >> i have already voted. >> okay. >> i'm an absentee voter. i have already voted. i'm cool with those choices. i understand it's from the beginning when they educated everyone on it. so i'm fine with that. i'm threw with it. >> i think the winner will not win in the first route that they will see at least, well, one thing. no candidate receives the majority of the first choice vote and then a process is redistributing the votes that will be taken place. first the candidate with the fewest is eliminated. this time, candidate b and then voters that will choose the eliminated candidate will have their vote transferred to the second choice candidate.

going live to los angeles to find out whether or not there is any indication that the jury is close to reaching a verdict. the time is now 8:06, joining the investigation of a fire that killed five people at the county home care facility for the disabled. and the fire is in the town on out here, reporting late saturday night by the nearby driver who saw all of those flames. and four bodies were found inside the homes shortly after the fire. a fifth body was found on sunday morning. and three police officers suffered smoke inhalation as they tried to rescue people inside that burning home. so they began their rescue, they will be holding some folks on out. >> two other people inside the home were taken to the the hospital. investigators say it is still not clear on how they started. they will be sending out and the traffic feed has been

the lower 60s. your time is 8:14. this morning, jurors in the involuntary manslaughter trial of michael jackson's doctor will begin their second day of deliberations in just about 15 minutes at 8:30. our reporter is live outside the courtroom in los angeles. any sign of how this jury might be moving along? >> reporter: we really don't know at this point. they had this for about six hours. they did not reach a verdict. i did talk to them over the weekend who told me that they do not reach a verdict today. it is not a murder charge here for the involuntary manslaughter. if they do not reach a verdict today, then some of the analysts have said that it could indicate that the jury cannot reach a unanimous decision. and now they have a big decision for them on their hands as you know it to decide whether or not that the king of

pop's doctor was indeed responsible for the singer's death. in order for them to convict him, they must decide whether the 58-year-old doctor was criminally negligent by giving him the propofol as a sleeping aid. as we never over the last six weeks, a reporting of the trial, something that many of them have said both on and off the stand was irresponsible. we have also heard a lot that he was distracted, being on the telephone while he was under the care after him and receiving the drug. again, involuntary manslaughter if they come back. the sentencing will happen about several weeks from now. facing the maximum of four years behind bars. but as we know with california

this shop was robbed around 9:15 last night. clayton police got a call about that time we were here and within a minute it happened. they started investigating the crime, taking away the security camera. and they asked the clerk who came here at 6:00 a.m. to say that the video tape where the files are, that they have been taken by police. and police, they called walnut creek police and asked them to bring their canine units on out here. police said that they picked up a scent from about 100 yards and then dropped off. they believe the suspect got into a car and took off at that point. the men came into the store wearing halloween masks and asking for money. and at that time, you know, they ordered them back into the store, robbing him at gunpoint and robbed the store at

this morning. it started after they spotted the suspect, where there has been a string of burglaries. they are checking to see if it belongs to any of the victims. oakland police are investigating two shoot z on sunday leaving three people wounded. detectives marked evidence along the sidewalk near the intersection of 10th and campbell. one witness told them that he heard about 20 shots around 11:00 in the morning. paramedics took one person to the hospital. at 1:00 in the morning, two people were shot in east oakland. paramedics took them to the hospital. their condition has not been released. no arrests have been made. our time is now 8:53.

considering a tougher bag band. a board of supervisors committee is reviewing new legislation that would e tend the plastic bag band from the markets to all retailers and restaurants. he is also proposing charging customers up to $0.25 for each bag. time is now 8:35. the san jose mayor may declare that fiscal emergency if the negotiations fail. and now the city is projecting up to a $115 million deficit for next year. and mayor reed told the mercury news that such a declaration is a risk for the city that they may need to take to avoid that insolvency. the unions propose the deal to save about $500 million over five years. but some in city hall says that figure is overstated. the san jose congresswoman will be joining hundreds of students today to really few --

traffic is moving along pretty nice in some areas. and there goes bart. now, the highway 4 commute is nice and it has kind of thinned on out. so the people will be taking bart, of course. it's on time according to bart. there's a crash on the shoulder there as you can see it on the left, but not causing any backups at all. they are on the scene. you can see that traffic is on highway 80, the bay bridge, still backed up, trying to get it into san francisco and it has backed up for the 15 to 20 minae delay still. if you are driving on out here, they are slow, heading to fremont. very slow. and in the south bay, things are finally beginning to pick up just a little bit, although it is still slow at 17 and 280 at 17. and then the peninsula, well, i think that most 101 headed south this morning is the low for the speed limit and 280 is getting into that highway 92. it is pretty crowded. getting into the airport though is not a big problem on 101. and 8:38, let's go to steve. >> all right, thank you, sir. a very good morning. 29 at lake port. the coldest i could find.

and kenwood, 31. so there were some cold numbers this morning. a lot of 30s around. i think we'll see a repeat performance of that tonight and tomorrow and we also have the fog on out there. 32 to 48 degrees. it will be sunny to mostly sunny here and cool by noon and the temperatures are staying in the 50s. and then we'll be mostly sunny for a few very low 60s. but they should be covering it for everybody. some of the fog has been pushed all the way down here in the san what keen valleys -- san joaquin valley area. that's the record lows all the way down to southern california and even yesterday. so you know, it's cool top to bottom here. things are calming down, a dry pattern for the next couple of days, at least through wednesday. starting to work off the morning lows. still a couple of 30s. a lot of low to mid-30s out there. 39 concord. actually they saw 37 near concord. and the southwesterly winds, turning a little northwesterly later on this afternoon and sunny to mostly sunny, but

breezy. everything is all right. at least until wednesday. the system is dropping down, coming out of the gulf of alaska, it will be dropping down and then they could just go on out there. it looks like maybe late thursday and friday that it might inch closer towards us. that's a dry pattern, but i guarantee the inland fog now, well, front and center, not the coastal fog that we'll get this summer. but now slightly warmer temperatures. not a lot, but a little bit. some fog is still holding on. most of that will be disappearing pretty fast. sunny, cool, breezy, in the 50s, and also the 60s, take your pick, it doesn't matter where we are. temperatures will be one or two degrees of each other. and gilroy, i didn't see anything. 58 at half moon bay. and 60 at memo park. and mountainview out here at 61 degrees. no change on tuesday.

crews will be back on the scene of the pipeline that ruptured in woodside over the weekend. it happened during the pipeline safety test. ktvu is live for us out there all morning, back with the very latest. tara? >> reporter: well, you know,engineers just left the park here. we're actually about, well, you know, a mile and a half on the east side of the freeway where the rupture and the testing happened. and engineers right about now are hiking up a very steep terrain in order to assess the situation for us. they had to do the same thing yesterday, and with 250-foot embankment that they claimed yesterday afternoon. they had been conducting the high pressure water test, detecting a weak spot. the pipe burst triggering the mudslide. they said that they will now be working with them to investigate. and officials say that the spot where the rupture happened had a dent in it. most likely from mechanical damage. >> most likely will be like a discing operation.

we'll get a handle on what caused that damage once we do the physical investigation and remove it from the site and bring it to the laboratory. >> reporter: and that laboratory is located here, taking several months for the folks to be getting back. neighbors that live on top of the pipe were a bit shaken up, but overall relieved that the test worked. engineers are meeting at noon to come up with the game plan, they will most likely remove the damaged section of the pipe this afternoon and hoping to have it reconstructed tomorrow. by the end of the week, we'll have it retested. live from woodside, ktvu channel 2 news. all right, it is time to see what is new this morning, looking for the cause of the early morning fire at the strip mall. and this one started shortly after 3:00 a.m. not far from 880. the flames caused a lot of damage to the barbershop, the liquor store and the second- hand clothing store. at one point a small explosion that blew out some of the windows. but investigators believe that the blast came from some of the materials inside one of

thebusinesses. at this point, they don't think that the fire was intentionally set. and luckily, no injuries have been reported. 8:48. nurses out here at the medical center in oakland say that they feel unsafe after a patient attacked a fellow nurse. the staff members say on friday that a patient grabbed the nurse's throat and put her in the head lock and hit her in the head with his fist. the nurse suffers several bruises, but expected to be okay. and the patient has since been moved to another part of the hospital. and the hospital spokeswoman says that the nurse's safety is of the highest importance and the incident is under investigation. that has been a sticking point in the ongoing contract negotiations. and the nurses want more of a say for them in the hospital's security procedures. san jose police, they are warning an entire neighborhood that they should be on alert this morning after the teenage girl was sexually assaulted. police say that the assault happened on saturday night when the man forced the 14-year-old

victim to a secluded area near madden avenue and shot street. police were called to the area by another teenage girl after she could not find her friend. and officers found the victim on the pedestrian bridge and saw the suspect following her. the suspect ran away from police who is described as the latino in his early 30s with the heavy set build and slight facial hair. if you have any information, you are asked to call san jose police. and the time is now just turning 8:50. two men may be facing charges this morning after being accused of attacking members of occupy san jose. the occupy member e-mailed them this picture you see here. this is of the same near city hall from saturday night. now, the occupy member claims that the men tried to steal a luggage cart before hitting and attacking another occupy member. and the men are then accused of using force on another female member. and police arrested those men a short time later. had occupy oakland demonstrators say that they are not letting the recent rain and

cold weather make them want to leave their encampment. but they are asking for some help. occupy members are sending out tweets and they are asking for the tarps, rain gear, and hot liquids to try to stay warm. and a spanish cemetery says they are running out of room and they need to dig up the old remains. so the cemetery is in this city. they are now placing stickers on the burial sites where leases are about to expire. and the family members, they do not renew their lease, then the cemetery says they will be digging up the remains, moving them to the common burial ground. and this is possible because many spanish cemeteries don't, well, sell graves. instead, they will be leasing them for anywhere from 5 to 49 years. and at newport beach, police are looking for a man who reportedly tried to use a chain and a pickup truck to steal this bronze statue. the former president ronald reagan. this is a picture of the life size statue when it was

athletic director lied to the grand jury failing to report suspected child abuse. both stiped down from their posts late yesterday -- stepped down from their post late yesterday. on saturday, police arrested the 67-year-old jerry sandusky on charges of sexually abusing eight boys over the 15- year period. and he retired from penn state in 1999 and to focus on the charity for at-risk youth. >> and jerry is very depressed. i mean, with the knowledge that regardless of whether or not he is eventually proving his guilt or innocence if people are going to think that he did this stuff. >> and the investigation of the case continues. time is now 8:56. well overnight, actress lindsay lohan checked in and out of los angeles county jail. the troubled actress was released because of jail overcrowding. and at about 2:00 a.m., they held her for less than five hours. the judge ordered jail time for lindsay lohan after determining she violated her probation by being terminated from the

women's shelter. if she does not continue her community service, she will be sentenced to 270 days in jail. a new study claims that car pool lanes have spined out, traffic speeds have improved ever since toll changes have been implemented more than a year ago. according to the study, more than 4,300 vehicles abandon the car pool lanes each day. and after the tolls stopped being free. and the study found that more than half of those stopped using the car pool lanes and they did so because of the tolls. and other reasons included gas prices, unemployment, and maybe switching to bart. studies show that the congestion-based toll pricing, saving drivers as much as 16 minutes on some bay bridge approaches. sticking to the bay bridge. >> yes, the bay bridge in getting there from the east bay is getting a little better, although we have crowded conditions here in oakland.
