especially down towards san jose. here's sal. if you are driving around the bay area, this is a look at the commute on highway 4. the morning commute looks good on interstate 880. like there is a little bit of roadwork as you are driving on 880 passing the coliseum. this is a look at northbound 101 approaching the 80 split in san francisco. it's 4:30. the votes be still being counted, but it appears the three top races in san francisco from yesterday's election will all be decided by ranked choice voting. first we have the preliminary results from the san francisco mayor's race. ed lee is in first place with 31% of the vote followed by john avalos and dennis herrera

a 11%. we have rehabs from the ed lee campaign. >> reporter: it looks like mayor ed lee will be the first elected asian mayor of san francisco. the ballots were being counted here overnight the city hall. unless something crazy happens, political analysts believe that ed will once again clinch the city's top spot. now, he attended a celebration last night at the palace hotel when he was enjoying a comfortable lead after the first ballots came in. willie brown and other political dignitaries were on hand. lee vowed to go to work the next day, even though he said he was exhausted from campaigning. >> we are very humbled. we are very tired. but we are also very grateful for all of you for helping us make sure that we represent every part of this great city. >> reporter: although election officials would not give us exact numbers, they found past

history of thousands of absentee votes count. the elections department will continue to count votes through the week. the first candidate to receive the majority will be named the official winner. terra moriarty. >> lee lindsey hoped that he would become the city's first asian elected mayor. although he finished in fifth place, he still hopes the ranked choice system will somehow pull him to the top. >> my understanding is that it's still going to take a couple of days before they kind of ferret out all the other second and third choices. and so we'll have to wait and see. >> he received 7.5% of the vote. he and his wife thanked

supporters last night. gas goan received 40% of the vote after the first round. the sheriffs vase a bit tighter. san francisco supervisor ross mirokimi leads with 30%. it was a double victory for san francisco mayor ed lee. his pension reform plan received 68% of the vote. proposition c increases employee contributions to their pensions, raises the retired. age for some workers and saves the city an estimated $1.3 billion over the next ten years. a competing measure, prop d, would have saved an estimated $7 billion in pension costs. it went down to defeat. we now have the results of some of the other mayoral races in the bay area. in vallejo aubrey davis will

remain in office. he claims victory over joanne shivley. in newark alan nagy won the mayor's race to become the first mayor in more than 30 years. he replaces david smith who is leaving the office after 15 terms. stay with us throughout the morning for election results. you will also find that information on our website ktvu.com. federal agents joined bay area law enforcement for a huge raid in the oakland hills. our ktvu news crew took this video as an army of officers moved in on a home on kathy lane last night. the us marshals office, chp, oakland police department and alameda police department took part in this raid. there were helicopters, snipers and police dogs. now, investigators are going to reveal the details of that raid during a press conference set for tomorrow. oakland police may be

gearing up for another mission to remove occupy campers. officers cleared out protesters on october 25th. the chronicle is reporting that police have canceled all training exercises next week, and officers say that indicates a plan to clear out demonstrators is in the works. the chronicle also reports that the department could cancel police leaves and call in other local police departments to assist in the raid. meantime, local shops are now claiming that the occupy movement could drive them out of business. coming up in just about ten minutes, the challenges facing business owners caught in the protest. time now 4:35. a fire at "star wars" director george lucas skywalker ranch caused minimal damage. firefighters say the fire started at about 5:30 last night in the chimney of the

main house. a private fire crew responded at first. that was followed by marin county fire. no one was hurt and it's unclear if lucas was on the property when that fire started. an arraignment hearing is scheduled today for the suspects in that drive by shooting that killed a 14-year- old girl in morgan hill. police arrested these four men and a 17-year-old boy. they say all five of gang members, but the victims are not. the 14 is-year-old girl died at the scene of the shooting. three other teenagers were also shot and they are recovering. the search is underway for a plan who police say sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in oakland. that happened on 59th street near market street friday night. now, police say the suspect grabbed the girl and pulled her into a van where he sexually assaulted her for several hours. she was eventually released. she describes her attacker as an african-american man in his 20s with a light complexion and a thin beard. he had a black van with no

windows or license plates. the a's are another step closer to moving to a new home in san jose. yesterday the san jose city council approved a multi- million dollar real estate deal for a new downtown stadium. the a's can now buy five acres of land near the hp pavilion at a bargain price. however, there is no indication the issue will be on the agenda when the baseball leaders meet next week. 4:37 is the time right now. a check in with sal. what are you keeping on eye on, sal? >> we are looking, pam, at all kinds of things. we had some roadwork in oakland on 880. just want to look at that and other things. let's start off with the east shore freeway and traffic there looks pretty good driving as you head west to the mcarthur

maze. the morning commute looks good at the bay bridge toll plaza. traffic continues to move well into the city. northbound 17 traffic looks good coming down to the valley. at 4:37, let's go to steve. >> sal, thank you, sir. a little change. just one guy talking, but yesterday afternoon, boy, that was a nice day. a little chill though. up to some of the higher elevation, those of you who run, ride your mountain bike, you get up in the higher elevations that was cold yesterday. it's a cold morning and i have that on good authority. pam cook told me, so i believe her. 30s and 40s for temperatures. a little change there. now, the first system, this system coming in, i kid you not there is a lot going on here. the question is, there is nothing -- well, it's not a question. there is nothing bumping it along yet. so it may just sit out here and meander all the way to about friday night or saturday.

welcome back to the morning news. time now 4:42. here is a look at some of the results from yesterday's elections. redwood city voters passed tax measures that could help the city bal its budget. measure m raises the business license tax from $37 to 58. both needed a majority to pass. a bid to add a new parcel tax in lafayette failed. measure g received 58% of the vote but that was not enough to reach the two third threshold needed. that money would have gone to improve the city's votes. the mount diablo school board

voted against converting the school to a charter school. the school board president says the plan put forward by charter supporters is not financially viable. but charter supporters disagree and plan to appeal to the county board of education. >> we're hopeful. our charter is good. we have sound plans. we are working with the best consultants, best accountants, positioning ourself to have the best chance for success. >> we expect the county and the state to uphold the position that the local school district made. local school districts act in the best interest of the local community. >> a charter requires more funding per student. the district would have to make up the difference, which says would mean nearly $2 billion -- $2 million in cuts. by lawyer, the board is not allowed to factor the financial ramifications into its decision. herman cain continues to fight back against allegations against sexual harassment. cain called the accusations

baseless and says he will continue to seek the republican nomination. meantime, another accuser has gone public. karen krousher, a former national restaurant association spokeswoman, says she received a settlement after complaining that cain harassed her. iran's president says the nation will not retreat from their nuclear program. a watchdog report says they are on the brink of developing a nuclear war head. the president of iran says that's absurd. the report accuses iran of testing explosives and developing a detonator to set off nuclear charges. ktvu news has obtained new police video of the violence at occupy protests 15 days ago.

officers tell us this video was taken at 8th and washington in the downtown area of oakland. you can clearly see okays being hurled at police. another piece of video those paint thrown on one of the officers as he tries to control the crowd. and there are two clips from officers, chest mounted cameras. we receive the video following a california public records request. you can find all the video on our website. downtown business owners say the occupy oakland encampment is hurting their business. some owners say, like many others, they have struggled because of the recession. now they're worried the movement could actually put them out of business as fewer potential customers are coming downtown to shop or eat. >> we are a part of the 99%. we support a lot of what we're hearing from autistic so it say we want them gone, it's tough

because we don't want them gone but we don't want our businesses negatively affected. >> he says they want to show their support for local business and don't want to see them shut down. well, investigators say two people who broke into a home in couldn't -- contra costa county picked the wrong house. it's the home of an under cover police officer. he shot one suspect while the other ran off. it's still not clear if the two intruders were armed, but many people say the police officer did the right thing. that guy is married and has children. what if his wife was home by herself and he broke in? i wouldn't want that. >> the wounded suspect is

listed in critical condition. the other man is still on the loose, but police have a strong lead. the getaway car a gold four- door buick was left parked outside the house. a drug raid in southern santa clara county may have uncovered a cockfighting wring. on monday drug agents came to search a search warrant of henry an i bell. he was suspectedle selling speed and running a pot farm. drug agents found more than 50 roosters at his home. a 500-dollar reward is being offered for this puppy's safe return. the san francisco sbca says the 8 week old dog was stolen yesterday afternoon hours before he was supposed to be adopted. the suspects are described as a la teen yokum in their 30s. they also had a four to six- year-old child with them.

five workers. workers were pouring concrete in new york when a building gave way yesterday afternoon. dozens of firefighters you can see scrambled to dig through the debris. they pulled four men from the rubble alive. the building department says the workers were following an improper practice of pouring concrete, which may have contributed to the collapse. football legend u.s. open's days as a head coach at penn state could be over within a few days. "the new york times" reports the university is working on an exit strategy? in response to a growing child abuse sex scandal. it appears very unlikely that college football's winningest coach will stay on the job. mark u dove wants more

funding from the state. next week he will ask regents to approve a $2.8 million request for the upcoming school year. most of the funds would be used to hire more instructors. adobe systems plans to cut jobs. the san jose company wants to refocus on digital media and remark ketting. most of the job losses will be in north america and europe. sunny toyota is recalling more than half a million cars and suvs for a steering problem. the recall affects vehicles from the 2004, 2005 and 2006 model years, they include camry's, highlanders, siennas. three models of the lexuss are on the list. toyota will mail notices to

owners of the affected models. the largest asteroid to pass between the moon and earth thrilled scientists around the world. an astronomer in oakland took this photo of the 1300-foot wide space rock as it zipped by. it appears it's only a little faint streak or a glow to people look through an average telescope. that's because it was 20 1,000 miles say away. let's check in with sal with more earthly traffic concerns. >> good morning, everybody. let's go out and take a look at what we have here on the ground. traffic is moving along pretty nicely as you drive on northbound 101. i just do stuff on the ground, but steve is a real scientist. san francisco looks good. the commute on 880 in oakland, that traffic is moving along nicely this both directions. we had some roadwork here in the last two minutes.

they picked it up about 20 minutes ago. there is no real affect on traffic. even when it was there it was not doing much to traffic because it was so light. 580 also looks good driving in from the lake shore area. this is a look at northbound 280 in san jose. this is a good time for you to be out on the road. it is nice and light. pretty much all over the police. we are checking in with chp and not a lot of major problems. let's go to steve. >> thank you, sir. mostly sunny today. it will be a little warmer and we will get a few high clouds of in advance of a system. cold morningings. no doubt about it. temperatures are in the 30s for many already. increasing clouds thursday night. this system is probably going to align itself more towards the santa cruz mountains south. clouds increasing tomorrow, and they're already inching closer.

lofts 30s here. santa rosa 34. san jose at 41. oakland is at 46. san raffle at 37. still an easterly breeze, special towards the delta. a little east six at fairfield. and in higher elevations that helps as you get a little warming coming off some of the higher elevations. our system sure looks good. the question is will it get close enough to the coast. i think it will, but not until friday morning. today and tomorrow we are all right. it will be mostly sunny handrail warmer. then it will start to pick up a south wind tomorrow. cloudy skies. the low looks like it wants to head right about towards santa cruz and then month a ray. the heaviest rain will be friday morning if it continues to march in as advertised. mostly sunny. high clouds to the north. temperatures mid 60s instead of low 60s to 76.

morgan hill and 67 mountain view. increasing clouds thursday. we will cloud up friday. bring some rain especially to the coast. this system may not make it too far inland. we will highlight the coastal areas. rain on saturday morning clearing out sunday, and then cool and breezy. two ice skating rinks are opening up in san francisco today. i want to show you video of the holiday ice rink from last year. could be a little different scene, though, this year since the occupy san francisco camp is right nearby. the other ice skating rink will be at union square. san jose and walnut rink are also setting up outdoor rinks later this month. votes are still being counted in san francisco's biggest races. we will tell you where the candidates stand. plus, oakland police may be gearing up for another raid on occupy protesters. the signs of action and when it may all go down.
