troutman, we found some great videos on the web that we want to tell you about. we're ready to show them to you, "right this minute." so how could a woman steal a fur coat from a store and then hide it on her body for three days while in jail? see the pictures police say prove the astounding story. a video puts an end to scarf confusion. with 25 ways to wrap a piece of cloth around your neck. >> does this make anybody else feel really claustrophobic?
9:01 am
everybody in this family flies, including the pooch. >> we got out by the airplane and he jumped right? in. >>. a case of road rage leads to actual rage on the road. >> it's not over yet. you'll be surprised how this thing ends. and the cat goes all cobra. in a fight move that freaks us out. we kick off today's show with some surveillance video ha might make you sweat. and gayle has the story for us. >> that's right, beth this case could have been solved easily with a simple pat-down. but it didn't happen. i want you to watch this video. it's surveillance video that captures stephanie mooreland in a fur shop in minnesota. she finds a fur coat that she likes -- she picks it up. she checks it out. and then you notice that she's
9:02 am
sticking it up her clothes. the person who works there got suspicious. stopped her at the door. the police came, but because they didn't have any female cops, they didn't pat her down. so she was in jail for three days over a holiday weekend, she goes into an interrogation room. police say first she lied about the coat. saying she sold it. >> i sold the coat. >> and then she changes her mind and comes clean. and that's when they discover she still has a fur coat stuck in her pants. >> did you see the cops pick up the coat by two tiny little fingers? kind of like -- oh. >> officer, i had to -- >> you think she had special pants, undergarment, whatever on, to hide the coat. >> what happens when you have an animal in your pants. >> i like how she did it in the front part of the store. right here where there's all the cameras. >> the reason the video is
9:03 am
coming out is she got two years in prison. police say part of the reason moreland was able to hide the coat is because she's a large woman. nome, alaska still dealing with the effects of the storm that busted through the area yesterday. here's some video we found on weather.com, during the peak of the storm on sunday night. gusts up to 80 miles per hour and sustained winds of around 60, 70 miles per hour. not that bad that they can't go out and make some snow angels. what made the storm so bad, was they haven't received ice that protect the shores. that protect nome and the surrounding area from the heavy storm. >> and it's a natural barrier. the ice forms a natural barrier. here's some videos of the aftermath of the storm on wednesday morning. a seal taking a break on the snake river. >> check this video out from the diameade islands this was shot by levi mckay. the islands are just off the coast of nome in the bering

strait. look at the earth mover. the earth mover is parked on a road that's been swamped by these surging seas. there's a shipping container for storage just being tossed around like it's nothing. >> that's some heavy stuff to be getting whipped around by just this water and waves. >> it's alaska november 9th. >> jim lives in nome, alaska, she rode the storm out and she saw the damage when the storm rolled through. we have her "right this minute" on skype. tell us what it was like up there? >> it was loud and windy and the house was shaking. but during the storm, you couldn't see anything. you could not see your neighbor's home. it was definitely crazy last night. this morning when we woke up, the wind died a little bit. it was still strong. but our neighbor's metal roof was just torn up. our street is completely torn up and it's pretty bad. the waves are crashing over the sea wall. and onto the street and into people's property. >> whoa!
9:05 am
>> they haven't seen a storm like this since 1974. this was no tiny little snowstorm. this hit them pretty hard. >> it was a crazy night at penn state university on wednesday. this video shows rioters overturning a tv news van. now, crowds flooded the streets around campus, in support of coach joe paterno. and paterno and school president, graham spanier were fired in a big sex scandal that is currently plaguing the school. now jerry sandusky, paterno's former defensive coach is the man charged with sexually abusing young boys. and now his championship ring is at the center of another big controversy. a man who is a former penn state football player himself, has a championship ring of sandusky's from the 1986 season. he put this ring on ebay shortly
9:06 am
after the news of the scandal broke. according to reports, sandusky sold it to raise money for the second mile program, which is a nonprofit he started in 1977. that was how he met many of his alleged victims. we actually spoke to adam, the man who owned the ring, he told us a little bit about his story. >> he was really a nice guy. then i end up playing for the team briefly. i'm a big penn state memorabilia collector, i've got a lot of stuff. it was three years ago, i got a phone call that it was on ebay. and i thought, damn, i'm buying this thing. so i bought it. and i rarely ever wear it. but i'll just sell it. >> that's how it ended up on ebay. he wanted to get about $10,000. ebay removed the ring from auction. >> i received a text message from a friend of mine saying
9:07 am
that it wasn't on ebay any longer. i checked my email and they said it was based on, i want to say profit being made from a criminal activity. >> there are people out there with morbid curiosity or strange collections. >> somebody who is a penn state fan or collects things of thisibthis ilk will probably want to get their hands on it. >> he says he's not going to any other outlet to try to sell the ring now that it's been pulled from ebay. >> in it is turns out that he's a child molester, i don't want something involving that in my home. fights in hockey, nothing new. but they're usually between the players, right? this one is a little bit different. it's video that's coming to us from russia today. it is in the khl, considered to be the strongest hockey league in europe. kind of like our nhl. and you're seeing here the coach of the vikyas team, andre
9:08 am
nazarov, between his team and the dynamo minsk, a team in belarus. he's fighting with the belarus fans. ate apparently his team was down a goal towards the end of the game. so they orchestrated a bunch of fights on ice. the fan didn't like it, he threw lighters and other foreign objects at the bench and at the ice. the coach was like, hell no. he started fighting the fans that were throwing the stuff. and he's like paramilitary guys come in and start clearing the fans out and the coach is like, he was the one that was swinging the stick. fortunately the plexiglass stopped him from hurting anybody. the league banned the 37-year-old nazarav for fighting. he apologized after the game, said he was disappointed in his actions. he didn't look too apologetic when he was hacking away at them with the hockey stick.
9:09 am
>> that's the pr clean-up line. i'm very disappointed with my actions. while inside you're thinking, i should have hit harder. in september beth told us of a story of a little boy who had been pinned down under a car in boca raton. he was hit by a car, was pinned under it. fortunately, three officers sprung into action and were able to lift the car and pull the little boy to safety. well, i have a happy update to that story. the little boy pinned ununder the car was 6-year-old dominick deroberts, he's made a full physical recovery. yesterday, athlete officers involved in this rescue were honored by the boca raton police department. >> no wonder they got the car off the kid. did you see the size of the cop? he's like robo cop.
9:10 am
>> the family give their emotional side, their attitude, their appreciation in recognition for what we did, it's pretty cool. >> the three officers involved were boca raton officers mike daley, bruce sonnenblik and community officer, ernie businkas. >> truly honored to be in the presence, you guys are heros to me. >> before the accident i found out that his dream was to be an officer when he grew up. >> how cool to have role models like these guys. guys that can physically lift up a car to save a life. hold your breath -- the scary big wave that one surfer dude takes on. what to do when a creep asks for your number. how about sharing the creepness with your friends? well, there's an app for that. ladies and men, you're going to
9:11 am
9:13 am
nick, steven, you guys are both single. you do you ever creep on girls at the bar. >> i wouldn't call it creeping. but -- >> there's a new way to out a creep. >> girl, you're looking mighty fine this evening. >> ladies and gentlemen, rebekah faces a critical decision. she can either dismiss this perpetrator of creeperdom to little or no comedic effect. or she can provide him with a low-creep premium service. >> it's a new app for your smartphone. and it's called "low creep" they assign you a phone number that you give out when some creepy guy at the bar comes up and asks
9:14 am
you for your number. he leaves a message that comes to your phone, and to the phones of all your friends. and then you can text the guy back, whatever you want. all of your friends can do it. but it all looks like it's coming from the girl. >> oh. this is terrible. i mean what's wrong with going up to somebody and saying, hey, how you doing, nice to meet you, can i get your number? yada yada. and now all of a sudden that's a crime and it has to be an app for that? >> i'm kind of with you on that surprisingly. it kind of takes it too far. i think just because this guy went up to you and you think he's a creep or you think he's weird -- >> he might just be socially awkward. >> you know you're not going to do this to the guy who is really polite to you about coming up and asking for your number. >> i think this is more geared towards the person who says things like, hey, do you wash your pants in windex. because i can see myself in your pants. >> yes, he's right, it's harmless. you go up and say --
9:15 am
>> and where's my smartphone. we see some pretty amazing surf videos on this show. this one going to blow awe away. this is one from grind tv. a 90-foot wave surfed by garrett mcnamara. a tow surfing event off the coast of portugal. you see him get towed in by a jet ski. on top of that face of that wave -- it's crazy. yeah, and he needs that jet ski, because there's no way you could paddle into a wave that looks like that. >> i'm thinking if the waves are so damn big that i can't even paddle out to them, i don't even know if i want to be there. but these guys, they do. >> it almost looks like he wasn't trying to do anything fancy. he wasn't trying to do any tricks, he was just trying to stay on his board. when you're on a 90-foot wave -- i mean that thing could crush you. >> yeah, i mean what happens if you, if you eat it on something like that? >> and it's cool, too, it looks like he had a little camera attached to his surf board. now you see the wide shot, how
9:16 am
big the wave is, and it cuts to his perspective and you see the water splashing around, that's pretty cool. >> that's got to be an incredible feeling. i'm showing you this book, "maggie eats healthier" because this is the second iteration of the book. the original title was "maggie goes on a diet." and it created a firestorm for the author, paul kramer, who said all he was doing was writing a book to encourage girls to eat healthier. if you notice in the book on the cover, maggie is a plus-sized girl. maggie wants to play baseball, she wants to play soccer. she has a little bit of talent, but she finds it hard to compete, because she's so big. show realizes, like to play soccer, i want to get better. she starts eating vegetables and eating right and exercising. apparently it was the word "diet" that people had a problem with because once they read the book, they thought, this book has a good message. to talk about why he changed the title, we have paul kramer "right this minute" via skype. why do you think the word "diet"
9:17 am
bothered people so much? >> maybe it's because they believe that i was trying to motivate children to go on a diet. and there's nothing further than the truth than that. >> paul, is there a reason you wrote the book targeting little girls and not both little girls and little boys? >> the reason is very simple -- that was my second book. and i had a boy in my first book. so the main character in my second book was a girl. >> have you found that this controversy has helped or hurt the book sales? >> it has helped it. i would be lying if i said that it has not. and i'm not saying that you have to be thin or trim to be happy or successful. maggie is just a nice regular girl who wants to be healthy. >> here's a video we found today of broadway, one of the most famous streets in the world. it runs 13 miles long in new

9:22 am
>> the old throttle lock trick. >> what does that mean? >> he's got a little something that he can push the gas down on and kind of lock it in position. >> it also makes it hard to breathe during this, because there's a lot of smoke. >> he better catch it quick, he's running around in circles for a moment. >> new york city is hosting performa 11, which is a new visual arts performance. and this year, james franco was commissioned to have his own performance and presentation. and what he is going to do is a three-part project about the 1944 play by tennessee williams, "the glass menagerie." one of those parts is going to involve a seance using a ouija board to try to communicate with tennessee williams' spirit to get instructions from tennessee himself, about what to do with the rest of this performance.
9:23 am
>> it sounds like a fourth-grade slumber party. >> thank you. i think it's real, ouija boards freak me out big-time. i'll never use one of those. >> a.j. briera is a celebrity psychic medium. will give us insight on what james franco can do using a ouija board. >> i feel like he would need a personal connection to have the validation there from that spirit or entity so if you try to communicate with tennessee or try to have that validation. he may have information coming through, but it's invalid from that direct spirit. >> so it doesn't necessarily mean that he will communicate with tennessee's spirit, right? >> exactly. he may be communicating with a spirit, some sort of energy that's already made its transition. so if it's a spiritual guide, a loved one. you never know what's going to come through the ouija board. >> no disrespect to you, but i don't believe any of this stuff, the fact that is there anything you can do to shift nick's perception or thoughts on this?
