think it's random. >> a targeted shoot is how detectives are describing what happened overnight. a man hit by gunfire while he was driving along the freeway. he ended up dying. all of this took place before midnight along eastbound 80 at the tennessee street exit. other drivers called 911 to report what they thought was a car crash. when police and paramedics got there, they made a deadly discovery. >> when they arrived, they found a vehicle in the bushes and inside was a male about 20 years old, multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. it appears the car had been shot at. >> reporter: police say they have interviewed several witnesses and people have given them the indication this car was the target of the shooting.

occupy oakland camp lives there for several days. this is a look at the plaza now. there is a memorial there now for the young man who was killed. he is from richmond. mayor quan held a news conference hours after this and says it is time to shut down the camp for good. >> we are calling on campers to please leave voluntarily tonight. city workers are offering vouchers, homeless shelters. >> the mayor spoke during a late night news conference and says they are working on a plan to close down the camp but wouldn't give any specifics. at least one oakland city council person is calling for a no competence vote on mayor quan because of her handling of the occupy oakland encampment.

one poor dog in san diego was caught in a bath drain. the firefighters were called and eventually got her free and she is okay. nuni is proposing converting one lane to have oak street to bike only traffic and drivers are not thrilled about losing that lane on one of the streets connecting golden gate park to downtown. the bicycle coalition supports the plan, saying bike traffic is up by 40% in the last three years. >> we are seeing a lot more understanding on the road and more realization that more people biking is good for the city and for those that need to drive. everyone biking opens up another parking space on the other end and opens up more room on the road.

a 35-year-old man who committed suicide at an occupy encampment is a veteran. his identity has not been released because next of kin have not been notified. the death may force the city to close the encampment. a military jury sentenced a u.s. soldier to life in prison for his role in the killing of three afghanistan civilians for sporter sport. staff sergeant calvin gibbs is the highest ranking of three men charged in the deaths last year. he'll be eligible for parole in ten years. reports say they killed the civilians because they were bored. federal investigators are looking into a deadly helicopter crash in hawaii. four passengers and a pilot were killed yesterday after their helicopter crashed into a mountainside and island. the victims' names have not

been released but the two are reportedly a newlywed couple from pennsylvania. new dash cam video from a police patrol car shows a chase ending in a destructive crash that happened back in september in oregon. an officer is pursuing a car as the dash cam records. that's when his patrol car hits the suspect car and then slams right into a house. no one inside the house was injured. the officer and two people inside the suspect's car are now said to be okay. california's comptroller says the state is taking in far less money than it is spending. some say the year to date revenues are $1.5 billion behind projections. it remains to be seen if the gap can be bridged in the spring when the city collects huge amounts of income tax payments. if not, there are automatic

a deadly shooting on i-80 has homicide detectives looking for a killer this morning. police rant to talk to anyone driving through this stretch and may have witnessed this shooting or aftermath of the shooting. a man was driving on the freeway when someone else pulled up and opened fire. the deadly shooting happened around midnight on eastbound 80 near the tennessee street exit. police think the driver in this case was targeted.

it started with reports of other drivers about a car that had crashed into the bushes on the side of the freeway. when investigators got here, they found the driver was suffering from several gunshot wounds and died at the scene. even though the killing happened on the freeway, the chp is leave to go investigation up to police. >> we have an agreement that anything of a criminal nature in this case a fatality or murder we do the investigation. so far we only know he's a 28-year-old man. detectives with not a lot to go on here. if you were driving along this stretch of 80 overnight, police would like to hear from you

conference at 1:30 this morning. the man killed at the occupy oakland camp lived there for several days. he shot to death yesterday evening outside city hall. more on that coming up at 8:45. according to police, two men stopped their cars around 3:00 yesterday afternoon and got into a fight and one of the men stabbed the other. the man who was stabbed got back into his car and drove to ironwood drive. that's where police and emergency crews were called to respond. the man was taken by helicopter to the hospital with life- threatening injuries. the family of a miss slain nursing student is coming together to work with bay area families, helping them develop a plan to conduct a thorough missing persons campaign.
