oakland to let us know about the message ant reaction. good afternoon, craig. >> good afternoon. >> reporter: and if you look at the plaza, there is very little movement here. nobody seems to be leaving. as you mentioned, there is a growing number of people who are against the occupy oakland right now, at least the encampment. the pressure from the people may not get them to leave but it may be the water building under the tent. >> i'm committed to it. we believe in oakland. we believe in occupy oakland. we believe in changing oakland for the better. >> the people are just adamant. martha freeburg braved the cold weather and the early stages of parkinson's disease to send this message. >> i came out here this morning because these people have to go. they are creating an atmosphere of lawlessness >> reporter: she has not one

flier but five different versions of a similar message. >> mob rule is not democracy. >> reporter: the oakland police association wrote a message, too. the police and others found like they are fed up with what's happening near the movement. >> for the last 30 days, this police department has been basically kidnapped and had to deal with issues revolving around occupy portland. >> last night, an unidentified member of the movement was shot and killed. police say that the shooting stemmed from an argument between two groups of men and there are no suspects in custody. >> that's not something that we could have stopped from happening. >> reporter: the opoa letter mentioned last night's homicide and a series of violent events has given them a bad reputation. >> we have 100 tents donated from occupy wall streetdonated to us. and we are determined to move

to another location. >> this afternoon, we have just received this news release from a coalition of religious groups. i'm going to show it right now. i'm going to show you the news conference right behind here. this group of religious leaders is actually coming out in supporting the encampment here. they say it only underscores the need to have a political discourse. we'll probably have more on that on ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. from oakland, kraig debro, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, kraig. santa rosa city council has given that city's occupy movement a big victory. >> occupy supporter cheered the council's decision to allow individual camping furnace outside city hall for the next 15 days. the council heard arguments for four and a half hours. the permits do come with conditions, including only four people will be allowed to spend in a night in a tent.

all adults staying must provide their name to the city and cooking, smoking and alcohol are prohibited. we went by to check on the situation at uc berkeley which was the scene of violent confrontation between police and protesters earlier this week. the students are planning a new action in the days ahead. we'll have details for you on that in about 10 minutes. vallejo homicide detectives are investigating a faye trialway shooting. the first responders to what was initially reported as a crash found the driver had been shot. it happened around midnight. police tell ktvu that they believe that the 28-year-old victim has been specifically targeted. no arrest has been made. it's the city's 13th homicide of the year. off and on showers started around mid-morning. it's light but fluff to make people break out their umbrella

that his administration will help returning veterans adjust to civilian life as they return from iraq and afghanistan the flight deck of aircraft carrier carl vinson has been transformed into a 7000 feet basketball arena. president obama will attend the game later today pitting michigan state against number 1 north carolina. it's the first ever college basketball game played on a carrier. several streets are closed in san francisco right now for the annual veterans day parade. the parade started just over an hour ago at market and montgomery street and will end at civic plaza around 1:00 p.m. ktvu's allie rasmus joins us now. >> the parade is still going on. i can show you the view as some of the various group the make their way down mccallister street. this looks like the hamilton

society. behind them was the merge legion headed toward front of the san francisco city hall and the civic plaza. more than 500 people are taking part in this year's veterans day parade. in san francisco, they are part of 44 different groups. the first contingent in the parade were members of the san francisco gay and lesbian freedom band. they were invited to lead the parade to commemorate the repeal of don't tell, don't ask. and some are celebrating the fact that the u.s. it. >> thinks a day to celebrate. we are done with that we will be done with that. next year, we won't have anybody there and we will celebrate those who come home.

>> reporter: other veterans say they are appreciative for the show of support. but as one vietnam veteran says, this is a day to reflect pond issues, the high homelessness rate and the way the economy is affecting young veterans returning from iraq and ad. >> jobless rate among veterans is 25%. even veterans returning from iraq, we keep saying, thanks for your service and we support you and so on, yet, the unemployment rate is higher than the rest of the nation. >> reporter: now, we have not seen them walk by just yet. but we are told that one of the contingents in this parade ace group called veterans against the war. they have been marching near the occupy encampment. but there are various area. ktvu will have full coverage on this holiday and later newscast at 5:00 and 6:00. allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. and the veterans day parade in san jose is just getting

quite footage captured the exact moment when wednesday's 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit turkey. take a look. people scramble into the streets as a cloud of dust rises. at least 22 people have died. most of those fatalities resultd from two hotels that collapsed. the latest quake followed the 7.2 quake earlier in which 600 people died mexico's secretary of the interior is among eight people who died in a helicopter crash this morning. according to the mexican government, francisco blake mora was headed to a meeting of judicial leaders when the helicopter went down in southern mexico city killing everyone on board. he was the country's top official after the president and was a key figure in overseeing the battle against drug cartels. no word on what caused the

crash. penn state university says that the assistant coach who reported seeing the child sex abuse on campus received multiple threats and will not be at tomorrow's game. receivers coach mcmcqueary testified in the grand jury investigation that led to child sex abuse charges against former defensive coordinator jerry sandusky. the scandal led to the firing of head coach joe paterno and the university president because many feel they did not do enough to turn sandusky in to authorities. police are warning students not to disrupt tomorrow's game against nebraska. meanwhile, there are reports that joe paterno has contact add prominent washington, d.c. criminal defense lawyer. according to the grand jury report, he was informed about one of sandusky's alleged abuses in 2002. paterno has not been charged with a crime but sources say that pattern yo is concerned about possible civil lawsuits

by sandusky's alleged victims and their families. contra costa county is considering imposing a curb knew for children during school nights. parents could be fined. eight cities in contra costa county already have similar measures in place. the board of supervisors will take up the issue in january. police in oakland are searching for a suspect who they say used a car to ram into a police cruiser. it happened just over an hour ago in the 2500 block of 80th avenue. a police spokeswoman says that an officer was making a vehicle stop on a car that had been reported stolen when the driver hit the gas pedal and crashed into the officer's car. the driver then fled on foot running into the backyard of a nearby home. no one was injured. muni is facing another budget gap next year and they are trying to find ways to add

revenue. the transit agency is considering a few ideas and according to the chronicle, one of them includes charging passengers who pay cash fares an extra 25 cents and another 25 cents in addition to that if they use a transfer. >> i don't know if i should pay more for a bus that didn't show up which is why i'm late right now and this bus is already 10 minutes late. >> i'm probably up for paying more but i think they could benefit most pay from the bus because there are people who get on the bus don't even pay: another idea includes a $3 increase for parking fines. muni says it will face a $34 million budget gap for the fiscal year starting july 1st. students at uc berkeley have voted to end their around- the-clock protest. everything was relatively quiet on the cal campus this morning when a ktvu camera stopped by. there are only a handful of people there right now. many people are waiting for the main event on the occupy cal
